I loved the film!  It's quite interesting and very moving.  It was fun to finally meet DR edi, her husband and the director of the film.  I look forward to spending more time with them on Sunday.

DR JoseSPiano - When your schedule in Westport is more set, please let me know...I work about 10 minutes away from the Playhouse.  But you might be too busy around that time.

Well, actually, I just got the confirmation of my schedule next week, and it's actually pretty late.  My days don't start until the afternoon, and I have two-hour dinner breaks each day, so...  I'll PM you with the details once they're truly finalized.

Well, all votes are in but not before this troublemaker woman sent out one more e-mail about by-laws (which no one has seen since the day they were written) and how she wants to find them and she's not sure where they are but can't we wait until Monday because she might find them - unfortunately for her, all votes had already been cast.  Her "concern" was we were doing this legally, and I say who would know and who would care.  She suggested maybe dissolving the current organization and starting something new - why?  We have the name - she's totally out of control - she's spent this entire week trying to cause trouble and get people to vote no.  Well, as of this evening the votes were 11 yes, 2 no.  I'd say that was a mandate, and an e-mail has been sent to everyone saying voting is done, the majority has spoken, and I am now running this organization.  The problem is, I don't think this woman will stop - I think it's become very personal for her for reasons I don't entirely understand other than I think she's served as President for five years (she resigned two months ago) and has never been able to do one single thing that meant anything.  The organization was dormant and pointless.  I think she's petrified that I will be successful and it will reflect badly on her.  She's one of these people who still behaves like she's in high school - it's a popularity contest and calling people behind everyone's backs, and all the back-biting is so reprehensibly stupid.  We'll see what her reaction is, but I have not yet written my e-mail of hello, thanks, and let's go on - because if I sense she's not going to stop, I will not waste my time and they can all just continue their downward slide to nowheresville - it's too much work.

Have fun DR JOSE!!!

Tempo Tempo - I guess that is tempii

And I did have fun today!  -As opposed to yesterday, which was not fun at all.

Some very good singers came in today, and it was a pleasure to play for them.  And there were a few not-so-good singers who were also a "pleasure" to play for.  ;)  Since today was an audition call for their season, there were a bunch of "monologue only" auditions which were also good - and fun to sit through.

And as always happens in the waiting area at the Equity building, I ran into a bunch of people I haven't seen in years.  And today's chance meetings were much "nicer" than yesterday's.

Early in my career as a reference librarian, I was asked for a book titled

A Century of Loneliness.

It took a while to figure out that they really wanted

One Hundred Years of Solitude.

That sort of reminds of that unfortunately doomed production of 42nd Street that played in Russia a few years ago.  The character names "Anytime Annie" was "translated" as "Spread Your Legs Annie" in Russian.

It's time for me to leave work.  I'm off to my sister's house (she's been on vacation in Vegas and I've been house-and-cats-sitting...she and her daughter have three cats).  I won't have to stay there tonight because they're arriving in Seattle at about 2:30 a.m., and I don't have to pick them up. ;D I get to sleep in my very own bed tonight!

Media Check...

In my DVD player:  "Ella Fitzgerald:  Live in '57 & '63."  I just got this today at Costco.  It's two live concerts that she did in Belgium in 1957 and Sweden in 1963.  Last night, I finally watched "Shock to the System" with Chad Allen.  I really liked this movie.  And the back story (I think Matt H. mentioned it, also) really adds dimention to the character of Donald Strachey. :)

Those are some amazing Ella performances.  If you want a true treat, add her Cote d'Azur recordings to your CD collection.  Every time I listen to them, still say, "Wow!"

Well, I've been going round and round with US Air over a $50 credit I want to apply to this current ticket.  Three different reservaton clerks on the phone told me I have to schlep out to LaGuardia tomorrow to redeem it.  After complaining to their "manager," he told mer any travel agent can handle it!  I've also sent an angry email to US Air customer service telling them that their rude attitude about no bereavement fares cost me $538 on an original $228 ticket price.  What robbery! What effrontery! What a crock.

Nice new avatar, DR MATTH....DR derBRUCER is now leader of the Purple Death.

Thanks. You're actually to blame. After seeing your new one and how much it brightened up the forum, I thought maybe my two year old one was in need of a change, too.

I very much enjoyed the Jules Dassin interview on the RIFIFI DVD. There are also interviews with him on the Criterion versions of NIGHT & THE CITY and THE NAKED CITY, but the one on RIFIFI is very thorough not only about the making of the film but also more background on the Blacklist period and other topics.

DR edisaurus - Well, I hope that the crook is caught when he s/he tries to use your cards again.  I know that some card companies will send out a fraud alert when a stolen card is used.  -I've seen people questioned at the check out.  *And I still remember getting a "CUT UP CARD" message on the Zon machine once when I was working at the music store - the card was reported as stolen.
