Ooooh!  Oooooh!  Neighborhood smackdown alert.  Some idiot attempted to drive and has gotten stuck in front of a neighbor's house (you can see the house in my "front yard" pic).  This neighbor is an elderly lady who just freaks out if anyone parks in front of her house (even though it's perfectly legal).  We can see her staring out her window right now, ready to pounce.  The trouble is, I don't think she can walk down the hill to accost the guy without slipping.  Film at 11!

Do you any Samba Smackdown music you can play?

First professional stage play for me was MY FAIR LADY with Sally Ann Howes and Edward Mulhare seen on my very first of many, many trips to New York City with my dear aunt and uncle. They had no children, so my brother and I were the lucky recipients of all their wanderlust

I watched a completely varied set of programs this afternoon enjoying a day off from work.

I began with another episode of HONEY WEST from the boxed set. Since I'm only watching one or two of these every few days, I should be on this set for weeks! ;D

Next, I watched a Christmas gift from a very dear and precious friend, a Disney movie I've long wanted but couldn't get my hands on as a DVD: SO DEAR TO MY HEART.

Instantly, I became a little kid again watching this movie that I first saw on the DISNEYLAND TV show and never forgot. I only had an old VHS tape of it, and the DVD is SO much better. Beautiful Technicolor that only goes out of registration two or three very brief times during the movie. And Disney has given the DVD a 2.0 stereo soundtrack, and I'll swear it was more effective than the DTS-HD MA 2.0 stereo track on THE LAST EMPEROR that I watched yesterday!

This absolutely MADE my afternoon, and now it proudly joins the other Disney classics on my Disney bookcase in the den.

Tonight, I'll likely watch THE LOST BOYS on Blu-ray and then rewatch the Blu-ray of THE DARK KNIGHT which I'm anxious to see again since it's so dense with plot.

MattH,

My daughter just called and asked me the difference between a Plasma and an LCD TV.

Is there a two three sentence answer? (As in what should she consdier when buying)

I don't know any of the technical stuff, but everybody I talk to says to go with LCD.

I don't know which brand, but that's what I'll be getting for my media room in Austin.

vixmom, I didn't hit the guy from the rear, I hit clipped his car on the driver's side, just towards the back of the car rather than the front, which is why I think there probably wasn't all that much damage to his car.

A definite difference.

Plasmas generally feature better black levels but have highly reflective glass screens which work best in a very dark room. Off axis viewing (anywhere other than dead center of the screen) is better with plasmas. Plasmas are subject to burn-in, so the first 100-200 hours one must be careful not to let images or black bars remain stationary for long periods of time.

LCDs are more flexible in screen sizes going very small to very large. Their screens do not reflect light so they are better if your viewing room is bright with sun or lit while viewing. They have a harder time with fast motion than plasmas, though many brands offer 120mhz modes which help with that. However, many don't like the way the screen looks with that mode turned on: it makes film look like videotape.

And now I need to head downstairs to put away the folded laundry and then get back to viewing. With nothing on TV tonight, it's a pleasure to have my library to choose from to watch some wonderful things.

Well, it wasn't quite the train wreck I feared, but it was nothing exciting. Not like the old evening Christmas pageants we used to do years ago.

A little yellow tornado is whirling around my living room.

Lovely photos, DR Jane!!   :)

Would planning a double wedding have done you in?    ;)

LOL.  The other couple will be planning their own wedding, if they ever have time to do it.

PDX is completely snowbound.  Church is cancelled.  Buses are cancelled.  In fact pretty much everything is cancelled.  I'll try to take some pics.  It's a winter wonderland--over a foot of snow here (which is a ton for PDX), capped by a nice frosty topping of ice (yuck).

I'm sure glad Bryan flew in yesterday morning & not today.

Well, I need to take a shower and get dressed for outside weather.  We'll see if I can first of all, get my car started, then get to the store, then get to my parents' house, and all safely! :)

Have a good day, all!

Well, I didn't get out of my house...much.  I emptied the trash and scraped the snow and ice off my car, but I didn't leave.  It's still snowing.

DR Jane, that is crazy about bryan's trip getting to the airport. And then they wouldn't let him board. Oy! 45 minutes seems like a lot of time.

It was rather shocking, plus it cost us an extra flight & night at a hotel.  At least he had a decent night sleep in the hotel & arrived in time.  We literally had the wedding as soon as he walked in. ;D

Thank you DR Danise.  I’m pleased your evening out was so enjoyable. :) :)

DR elmore, it sounds like this was a better time to visit the family instead of Thanksgiving   No cold vibes!

Good Afternoon!

Chocolate-Chip-Oatmeal-Pecan-Toffe Cookie dough - a double batch - mixed and chilling and resting in the fridge.

Peanut Butter Cookie dough, mixed, scooped and frozen.

Cantuccini dough mixed, formed into logs, and baked.  -For the first time.  I will slice them and bake them again - bis - later tonight.

-And I've even washed the dishes, wiped down the counters, and a had a bowl of some wonderful chicken noodle soup.  :)

Well, I got the official call about a half hour ago that what would've been today's final performance of Reefer Madness! The Musical! has been cancelled...officially. :( They're going to see if we can do a one-night quasi-concert performance at another space after Christmas or the new year and get some people who couldn't see the show this weekend.  Wish us luck!

GOOD LUCK!

I am so sorry, George.
