Both Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe's carry fruit-flavored popsicles that I find quite nice for helping you cool down on hot days. Not nearly as addictive as ice cream.

Are you having some weather out there, JRand? I am supposed to pick someone up at the airport tonight, and their flight from Indianapolis has been delayed some time now.

Been thinking about this, and I will say that "The Man Who Knew Too Much" is the second Hitchcock film I ever saw, or the second that I was aware of actually being a Hitchcock film.  It was on a re-release double bill with "The Trouble With Harry" in May 1963, at the Warnor Theatre in Fort Lauderdale.  I was thrilled with it.  "Harry", not so much.  Had a few years to go before I could appreciate that one.

I credit "Rear Window" as my very first Hitch, by virtue of having seen it on B&W TV a few times in those years.

"The Man Who Knew Too Much" & "To Catch a Thief".  "Harry" is an odd one that I don't recall seeing until it was on tv.

It's odd that I wouldn't at least have seen "Psycho" in the couple of years before that.  I think the re-release I finally saw it on occurred just after the above.

I'm sure I wasn't permitted to see this, not that I wanted to.  I still haven't watched it.  My mother took me to see "The Birds".

I'd forgotten it was Ginger Rogers Day!

I'm going to go decorate Toby and Dylan's feeding areas in kitty foil.  I think they'll love it,

Did that read as campy as it sounded?

DR Chas, I grew up in Culver City and we usually had nice breezes off the ocean. No one had AC in those days; we just used fans. But we sweated during these heat waves, too. Everyone complained of the heat. As an area builds up and gets more populated I think it feels hotter--fewer breezes reach you, more heat is retained in the asphalt, etc. City heat just seems worse than suburban heat.

And you were younger DR Jeanne.  My parents had an air conditioner in their bedroom & in the kitchen.  It really helped on those extra hot days & nights.

Just finished watching "The Laramie Project." Good movie, but I think I need a comedy for the evening.

Had a sandwich and onion rings, chose more songs, must decide on final gal singer, and asked one other person to join our guest stars.

And that's not the only milestone just passed.  (Do milestones ever get passed like kidney stones?)

"THERE'S MEL" just got its 21st review on Amazon!  A 21st review for a 21st century.

So take note, DR FJL.   I, for one, do not care to sit in the Seat of Shame at Joe Allen.

And a lovely review it is - looking forward to more, especially the Kritzer books :)

Why is NBC showing a volleyball game that was on earlier instead of the Closing Ceremonies??

Because they are saving the Closing Ceremonies for Prime Time!

I totally understand them showing it in prime time. But i think they should also show it live. I would be very annoyed if i could not watch it live.

There are actually times when I get really cynical and wonder whether NBC cares more about their ratings and profits than about whether people actually enjoy the closing ceremony.

I can't imagine they have any other reason other than ratings and profits for showing it later.

I would be curious to see what their reatings and profits would be like if they simply aired it once from 4-7pm and then again from 8-11pm.

That Chas.  he'll say anything to avoid the Seat of Shame at Joe Allen's.

I mean, yes, I thought it was a wonderfully written, very intelligent review too.

Hmm, I wonder if I go down to Joe Allen's to make the reservation for the group, if I can specifically ask for a table that doesn't have a Seat of Shame.

Maybe if Ethel and I can do this before Ricky gets home from doing God-know-what-he-does-from-9-to-5 at the nightclub, this will work out.  i'll have Mrs. Trumbull watch Little Ricky and head out right now..

Fried up some bacon and then threw some okra in the drippings and made it all yummy. The bird, however, only wants the bacon. He won't touch the okra. Go  figure.

It took forty minutes of patience and diligence, but The Fly, which somehow got into my home environment and has been driving me crazy (not a long drive), has been killed.

Our back deck "before" photo.  I know, the trees are beautiful, however they pelted acorns at the windows and it sounded like we were under attack.  They are also a fire hazard so close to the house.

Sorry, I don't now how to rotate the photo.

With the trees gone the house is brighter and the view would be terrific if not for the smoke filled sky.  I'll have to re-take this photo once the fires on the California border are out.

We are watching the Olympics closing ceremony and Richard just said, "I'm clearly not the audience for this!"
