Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a piece of cake, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently singing Let 'Em Eat Cud.
-
And the word of the day is: CATAWAMPUS!
-
A very early good morning to all.
I am up to get ready to go to the airport and fly up to Montreal. I need to/want to be at the airport early. I'm about an hour away from the airport and I want to park in longterm lot.
I hope to get on line at least one a day while I'm away.

ASK BK DAY
1) Any plans for another commentary track about the restoration?
2) Any plans for a bonus feature showing a before and after comparison?
3) Also didn't you also a have complete version of "Kick You With My Boots On" even though it's on video?
-
Good morning, all.

Travel vibes for Michael S.

It's way too early.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And, yes, it's Wednesday.
-
It's way too early.
I second that!

Travel vibes for Michael S.
I second that too!

And that's all I got right now. Time to make the musical.
Laters...

Morning all.
That is all.

Good morning, all! I'm listening to the new recording of KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY, a show I've been waiting for 50 years for a good recording, and this one is very good. The orchestra sounds fantastic, and the cast is quite wonderful.
Today, my first item of business is a trip to the Post Office for a package for a package from France. I suspect it's the vocal score for the World War One operetta La Cocarde de Mimi Pinson. Well, I hope it is.
I have the endless Act Two Finale for EILEEN to begin and I have some personal writing to work on as well today. That's about it. More coffee!

No one here, not even a guest?

Yesterday, I started listening to the newly released STRIKE UP THE BAND but it just wasn't registering with me, so I stopped it a quartre of the way in. I'll give it a retry today.

The number and persistence of guests looking at old topics is starting to get weird.

Last night while I was eating dinner, the doorbell rang. I opened the front door and there were two cute young Mormons. They looked so much like the Elders in BOOK OF MORMON that I broke out into a smile (I was also tempted to start singing HELLO to them.) Of course, the lead guy began going into the spiel but I broke him off and sent them on their way, mostly because I didn't want my dinner to get cold. I felt a little bad about being such a brick wall to them, but it would have been awkward to have invited them in, especially with my own copy of the published BOOK OF MORMON script sitting on my coffee table.

Wednesday!

Very interesting reading about TFNM lab work.
And of course reading DR JOSE's adventures in Rodgers and Hammerstein land.
-
Seeing SISTER ACT vibes for THE VIXTER.
-
DR CILLA LIZ it sounds like you are really getting a LOT of things done! Congrats!
-
Wednesday morning greetings! It's a puttering day for me - 3 packages to get ready and take to the post office and a late afternoon appointment to take 6 baggy (on me) pairs of shorts to the consignment shop.
-
Tonight is blocking a short scene and a song.....with just a few people....tomorrow we block THE JOUST.
Last night we costumed all of the women save one who looked bad in everything she tried on.....those that she could get on....or WOULD put on.
After her comments and problems last night - no matter what - she gets the UGLY dress of the show.
-
I don't know from baggy shorts.
-
Travel vibes to DR Michael S - wave when you're over Ohio!

DR The Vixter - you're very welcome!

A few pictures Guenevere took last night.....said Lady is wearing green.

A friend from Northern Ireland is in town today through Friday. She's seeing the Sister Act matinee today as well and then we are meeting her for dinner.
-
Only 2 more.
-
A Sister Dance!
-
Good morning.
-
That's it for now.
-
I quite enjoyed KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY, although, like THE FIREBRAND OF FLORENCE, we get a condensed recording of a show that will most likely never get a complete recording. So, we get a cut song, "Bachelor's Song," nicely sung by Chris Fitzgerald, whom I adore, but we lose the two instrumental dances, the Dutch Dance and the Indian attack, a swing number titled "The Algonquins from Harlem."

I like cake.

Who is stopping Em from eating cake?

Good morning.

I slept in this morning.

I think three commentary tracks are enough - what I may do, however, is a short new video introduction where I talk a little about the restoration. We may do a before and after if I can figure out exactly who puts stuff like that together. At $400 an hour, I can't do it in the telecine room.
Kick You With Boots is an audio only extra - the scene itself is long gone and doesn't exist anywhere.
-
I'm up and shortly I shall be at the lab. It's very gray out, but hopefully that will burn off enough for me to do a nice jog later.
-
I dreamed that I fit into a pair of shorts I haven't fit into for over a year. The reality, however, is not quite that yet.
-
Woo hoo! Dew point of 57!

Who is stopping Em from eating cake?
Marie Antoinette?

I'm listening to CATCH ME IF YOU CAN now, and I really lke it. The score is more of a "rat pack" and Bobby Darin view of the 1960s than HAIRSPRAY's teen bubblegum music approach, and that's a rash generalization of which I'm fully aware, since I think HAIRSPRAY is better than a lot of the 1960s teen bubblegum music. There are a couple of numbers in CATCH ME IF YOU CAN where I swear Norbert Leo Butz is channelng Sinatra, and Larry Blank's wonderful charts with Marc Shaiman are very Nelson Riddle-ish. I really want to see the show.

Growing up in SLC I can tell you nightly visits from missionaries were a regular thing. I still remember one night when I was probably 4 or 5 and we had all sat down for dinner and like clockwork the doorbell rang and it was two young Mormon men trying to get us to see the light. My mother was no shrinking violet and she had had enough by this time. She went out on the porch and basically just ripped both of them a new one, asking them how'd they'd feel if she showed up at their homes every night at dinner and tried to get them to be Methodists. ;) She asked for their Bishop's name, got it, called the Bishop and ripped him a new one, and I believe at that home at least we never had another interruption from missionaries. :)
-
I don't think we've ever had Mormon missionaries here. Jehovah's Witnesses, yes. One time on Christmas morning.
-
I came home from college one weekend, probably around 1971, and on Sunday afternoon two Mormon missionaries showed up for dinner. They had been in our neighborhood making calls and my mother, out of loneliness or her general dementia - I'll never know - invited them in, found she liked the fact that they listened to her, and invited them to Sunday dinner. So, for around six years, every weekend, we had Mormon missionaries as dinner guests on Sunday. When one group went back to Salt Lake City, new ones would come to visit and the tradition continued. I guess in their housing, there was a sign "3003 Goldman Avenue, crazy woman, good for Sunday dinner."
Then, one Sunday around 1977, I realized I hadn't seen any Mormons coming and going from the house, so I asked my mother about the situation. Her comment: I didin't like the last group, so I never invited them back.
That was the end of the Mormons.
-
I dreamed that I fit into a pair of shorts I haven't fit into for over a year. The reality, however, is not quite that yet.
Dream-O-Matic 6000 says this is one of the BEST kind of wish fulfillment dreams - you MAKE it come true - and the fact that you are wearing a pair of shorts instead of long trousers indicates a return to youthful vitality and happy time of life.
-
My last year in college I had a super-groovy apartment on Second Avenue a stone's throw from the Mormon Church Office Building and it was a regular afternoon event to see scads of missionaries in training walking across North Temple to the parking lot.
-
In conjunction with some of today's posts - and my reading of THE TERROR:
-
I don't know which church the people who would come to my door (when I lived in my house) were from, but often they would have very young children with them...perhaps they felt that they were less likely to be yelled at it kids were around.
-
My question for ASK BK DAY is a supposition.
Do you think your career would have taken a different turn had the Whipple, Jr, Charmin campaign continued as originally planned?

Here's an article about the restoration of Arena Stage http://www.preservationnation.org/magazine/2011/july-august/restaging-arena.html (http://www.preservationnation.org/magazine/2011/july-august/restaging-arena.html)

The day after the Tony's I was on my way to work and saw three mormon boys with the outfit on walking down the street. For a moment I thought they may burst into song
-
When I was little my mom taught me that when the Jehovah's Witnesses come to the door, you hide and don't answer it :)
-
Ok, back to the salt mines

DR JMK when is your next comedy gig?

I think it is very nice of the Arena Stage to refurbish itself just for DR JOSE's conducting debut.

I'm enjoying everyone's Mormon stories.
I think if it weren't dinner time I would have been more receptive of my visitors last night. And I don't think it's necessarily because I'm welcoming religious discussion--it's just that right now, I'm associating Mormons with Dolly Levi, Mame Dennis, the citizens of Anatevka and the young kids on the Corny Collins Show.
-
I am very excited to learn that we now have a Middle Eastern restaurant in Salem called Al-Aqsa. I can't wait to try it out!!

Mikey, today is Brian D'Arcy James' birthday.

My question for ASK BK DAY is a supposition.
Do you think your career would have taken a different turn had the Whipple, Jr, Charmin campaign continued as originally planned?
I don't think there was any plan to do anything but that one commercial, so not really. The only thing that would have taken my career in the direction I really wanted it to go would have been a hit series or if Nudie had been the hit it should have been.
-
We finished the transfer - made some small additional color corrections and framing things, but it all looks pretty fantastic, save for the end credits and there's simply nothing to be done about them, unfortunately, other than to try and clean some of the scratches when we're doing the cleanup. I don't know what happened to the negative but it's pretty appalling.

For those who haven't figured it out it's Here On Earth from The Brain From Planet X. There's a production being done in Montreal in French! I just got the entire script and lyrics translated - so much fun to sing these in another language and whoever did it did a great job.

And there's a production in Winnipeg opening in two weeks. Will Jennifer go to either? You can find both productions on Facebook.

Well, I had an exciting afternoon.
Our guest came by for a spell before heading uptown to see Sister Act. I went back to the office and began to eat an apple. Well, the apple fought back by breaking a tooth! It's not even one of the teeth that was going to be worked on by the dentist. I was able to save part of the tooth. I don't know if I swallowed some of it or threw some away when I spit out the apple (I bit, began to chew and heard and felt a crunch. Knowing apples don't crunch I suspected something was wrong). I then headed over to the NYU Dental Clinic for emergency treatment. In about an hour and 10 minutes they fitted me with a temporary crown and have re-written my treatment plan to include this little bugger. I have to be careful while eating and do no chewing with the affected tooth until the real crown is attached after 3 visits. I need a root canal, a post and core and a crown which adds about $1,200 dollars to the aforementioned treatment. Oh, well. I know it would be double if I went to a full out dentist. The treatment was good (you would never know I just lost a tooth), as painless as possible and I'm happy to have it over!

Merrill was always nuts, but she clearly has gone over the deep end. Watch the Alice Faye clip where she won some kind of amateur 1930s Idol contest - SHE won it, and yet all she's doing is an impersonation of Miss Faye. Terrible.
-
Welcome twenty-four GUESTS. If one of you is Merrill, you've gone off the deep end.
-
I did a four-mile jog, then picked up a couple of packages, and made a nice, big halibut filet - that's only about five hundred calories and I've already burned 400, so I will have to eat something small later, but this thing was really filling.
-
Oh, wow. sorry to hear what happened, Ben!

I sent her a message last autumn, asking her if she'd like to sing in the ladies' ensemble for the Victor Herbert recordings. I didn't think she was right for any of the solo work, but I wanted to involve her. She never answered.

Nope. I'm not good enough any more. As soon as the wedding was over, she was only to spend time with other Mormons. She grew up in my church.

They adore her - she's fun, respectful, and they, in turn, think she's amazing. And so she is.
-
Laura, honestly I'm a bit surprised. When we moved into our first house the Mormon's across the street were very friendly at first & then kind of cooled it once they realized we weren't going to be converted. When Bryan came along they were great. Their children were our sitters, the two youngest I've mentioned spent a lot of time at our house. When I couldn't stop a cut on Bryan's hand from bleeding it was the wife I called for help. Their Mormon friends were very helpful & no one ever again attempted a conversion. The young men in their suits didn't even stop at our door.

TCB, I say you CAN have your cake and eat it too. What kind?

Looking at today's title.... I told my mom I want birthday cake when I go to the lake this weekend. She always seems to have pie, I told her since I'm turning 50, I deserve to have cake!

So I shall have my cake and eat it too!
-
Thanks, DRs Jane, Cillaliz, and Laura - we laughed about the combination of attire!

I believe we have our first monsoon storm weakly moving in.

It took 50 years to let your mother you want cake instead of pie ;) Not only should you have cake put be sure to tell her what kind you want.
-
DR Laura how much rain did you get?
-
No rain here. The Monarch Scientist said she got enough to wet the sidewalk.
Here it is breezy, and the sky feels different. The Monsoon is definitely on the way.
The last couple of years it was well into August before we got any rain.
-
Did Fr. Richard officiate at either wedding?
No, DR Laura. The first wedding was conservative Presbyterian and the second was, um, pagan. The officiant there, we learned at the reception, was Wiccan.

Pagan-lol. Bryan almost had a Quaker service but it wouldn't have been legal in Chicago.

On June 11th at 05:57:08 PM I said "Bruce thank you for entertaining me today with Adriana's latest antics."
It must have been one of those days I was in a daze. Glad you were entertained!
-
Nice pictures, Ginny!
Thanks, DR George!
-
'night!

And how about all the other people who got the book - is it just sitting there like so much fish?
-
Here's what I'm wondering: Is the new poster on the Film Score Monthly board, who posts relentlessly and who goes by the name dan the man, our dan the man?
-
Too many Mormons
Waiting and intending to preach to you
How many Mormons
Are there still to come
Love it.
-
And here we are flanked by my cousins Dan and Perry, who were about to leave for Georgia:
Nice pic. But where are the Mormons?
-
Whist doing the four-mile jog today, the idea came to me for episode six of the web series - so over the next few days I'll write five and six, both to be shot here in LA.

Looking at today's title.... I told my mom I want birthday cake when I go to the lake this weekend. She always seems to have pie, I told her since I'm turning 50, I deserve to have cake!
It took 50 years to let your mother you want cake instead of pie ;) Not only should you have cake put be sure to tell her what kind you want.
No, I had birthday cakes for years. Then in the past, oh, 5-10 years she's conveniently "forgotten" to do a cake but says, "Oh, we do have pie" LOL. It's really not a big deal. I just laugh because she likes pie better. We make a joke of it. This year, I told her I really want cake
-
Good news about "Death Takes A Holiday!" Simon Jones, who's in the cast, sent me a note that he's getting me a comp for this weekend. I am so looking forward to it.
We want a full report.
-
And ice cream, Cillaliz. Don't forget the ice cream.
-
Our dew point has gone from 74 degrees to 73 degrees. Our heat index is still 85 at 10:00 at night. Tomorrow out heat index will be about 110 degrees. Oh joy. It will be like trying to breathe through a wet electric blanket on high.....not that I've ever done that, it's just what I'd imagine
-
Oh we always have ice cream. Whether there is pie or cake or neither, we always have ice cream
-
Sorry about the dental mishap, Ben. Something similar happened to me while I was on a restaurant review visit to a barbecue joint. It was peach cobbler, though. And it wasn't even tough or dense. In fact, it was quite good. Losing half a tooth just seemed to get in the way of enjoying it though. Darn it.

Oh we always have ice cream. Whether there is pie or cake or neither, we always have ice cream
Must have ice cream.
-
But it's been another long one. Night, all.
-
I have little ants in the kitchen and I am not amused. I actually think they may be coming in the window. I cleaned like crazy. I didn't see too many and didn't see any in the cupboards. Maybe they are just trying to escape the heat, lol
-
My nephew said he never kills bugs, he lets them outside....I wonder if he catches ants one at a time and releases them in the wild, lol
-
I squish them or drown them...ants that is....I hate to put out poison because of the cats, but will do so if I see more of them
-
For ants I use those little black plastic bait trap things. Those usually work overnight.
-
Good Evening!
Today was a good day. Today was a long day. But, again, today was a good day.
-
Good rehearsal.
Good presentation for Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton.
Good orchestral rehearsal.
And I still remember how to program the theatre's Kurzweil! Whew!
-
DR elmore - Glad to hear you get to see Death Takes A Holiday this weekend. I'm really curious to hear about how the show is coming together. -I think they still have another two weeks of previews.

As for Mormon Encounters...
I don't ever recall having any Elders show up out our front door, however, I had a friend in DC who was gay - quite gay - and he would always invite them in to "talk" for a while. He would start off by listening to them, and then he would start challenging them. He was the son of a preacher man, and he would just throw chapters and verses right back at them. Interestingly, he would get regular visits - I wondered if he was placed on "Still Must Be Saved" list? ;)
-
Night all. Must sleep. :-*
-
DR Ben - ~~~~~GOOD TEETH VIBES~~~~~
-
And I must sleep now too.
Goodnight.
-
Mormon encounters. LA has lots of Mormons I've recently found out. Including the guy, oh my.
