Yesterday evening, I went to the auditions for "Juno and the Paycock" and there were only four other people, including the woman who Josh (the director) has already decided that he wants to cast as the lead (she was at the first audition).  She's good!  He had originally asked me to play Joxer (it's a smaller role and since I haven't been in a non-musical for years, I prefered it that way ::)). but Josh doesn't really have anyone who can play Captain Boyle, Juno's husband, so he asked if I would play the role.  I reluctantly said yes.  Pray for Rosemary's baby!  I hope I can memorize it all...the biggest couple of roles I've ever had were Sancho Panza and Charlie Brown and it's been a long time since I've been in a show at all...AND they had music to take up a lot of time.

Isn't this what we were talking about here at HHW last night?  And DR George was out there becoming a star!

Congratulations and memorizing vibes!

Ginny asked:

So, DR Ben, how's your first week back to work?  I just initiated our library's purchase of a new set of Grant Guides (we hadn't updated since 2001).

How interesting, Ginny. You may see the books before I do. Usually they are on my desk when I return. This year they were published on time but due to some fulfillment issues which were not fully explained to me, I don't have my copy of 12. The books have been completely redesigned. The information is still the same but the layout and covers are all new. Even though it had a complete redesign they couldn't find a way to put my name on the book. I don't ask for much but that would be nice. Oh, well. At least I still get to take the month of December off.

In answer to your question, my first week back has been pleasant and without problems. A couple of people have decided to leave (one a relative newby and another a long-time employee) but neither departure will have an effect on my work. I have eased back into the process, cleaning up the little bit of work that was left on my desk in my absence and finishing two grant files for the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Next week we get paid and I get my bonus check (excuse me, I misspeak, my Incentive Compensation Award). I will not be eligible for a bonus in 2007 because for the past three years I have received an "Incentive Compensation Award" (AKA bonus) For Exceptional Overall Performance During the Year and the powers that be have decided that if you receive a bonus three years in a row you must be taken out of the bonus pool for one year. Talk about incentive!

Anyway, things are good here at the FC overall and I have little to complain about, so I won't.

This is the longest post I have had in many months, I think.

Hello, George!

Good to see you!

Good to be seen!  I've just caught up to the top of Page 6. :)

Last night's "Ugly Betty":

SPOILER

At the end, when Betty was explaining her deal with Mark -- the one in which she gave him her Gucci bag (which he did not know was a knock-off) in exchange for a knockoff bag from down the street -- what was the "rest" of the deal?  It happened so fast, I didn't hear what else she asked of him.

He still owes her a favor because he would never admit to not realizing that Betty's bag was a fake when he accepted it. ;)

Earlier, Jack said:

And of course, DR RODZINSKI, Lois Kibbee, niece of Guy, was a ghostwriter who did Joan Bennett's "autobiography" and was working on Frances Farmer's book when Frances died.

I think I've mentioned this before but in the early to mid-80s I was friendly with Kathy Kibbee, Guy's grandaughter. She went to school with a dear friend of mine and they re-connected around 1984 and kept in touch. She married a man from England and moved across the pond. She visited over here and when we were traveling in 1988 we spent a couple of days with her and her husband and children. It was a wonderful time. I should try to find one of the pictures and post it.

Six degrees of separation.

DR Jane re: the pictures on the stamps just do a search for "picture postage". You will find tons if results.

Well, my order for the stamps has officially been rejected.  Their reasons were because the image could be of a famous person (it's not) and possible copyright infringement. ::) I hope that BK doesn't mind, but this is what I had submitted for the stamps.  I think it would've been pretty cool:

That's a great idea George! Maybe we should make them for S&V or The Internationale. Glad your library bought 4 copies, and that it's getting requested!

In the event that anyone has a desire to download some vintage Bollywood soundtrack LPs (and really now, who doesn't have that desire?) here is a nifty link. The guy has a box of 150 LPs he is putting up as downloadable MP3s...a different one every day.

I am listening to this one right now!

Wow!  "Heroes" are coming out of the woodwork in NYC.

First, there was the man who threw himself on top of a man who had fallen onto the subway tracks.

And now two men have caught a child who fell out of a 4th floor window.

IT's good to know people are there to help.

Actually, I quit debate my sophmore year when our coach told us that the topic for that year was Euthanasia.  I just didn't feel I could convincingly talk for five minutes, either pro or con, regarding the children living in Vietnam and Cambodia.

I did continue to compete that year in Oratory and Oral Interp.  However, I think I confused a lot of my mother's friends (and myself) when I came home from school and told them that I was Majoring in Theater and Drama, and Minoring in Forensics.

I'm hoping several NYCers get to go to FOLLIES and tell us all about it. I did see the disappointing Roundabout revival a few years ago, but since I saw the original, just about anything would be disappointing in comparison to that.

Please get ready to load us up with information and opinions.

Since it's featuring the vastly overrated Victoria Clark in the best role, I'm staying home with memories of Dorothy Collins, who's irreplaceable in that part.

I love the fact that Chubby Checker's career arc reached the point where he did a dance song based on the leaping dance done by the guy from Freddie and the Dreamers. AND that the song actually made the American Top 40!

And speaking of Mr. Checker (Chubs to his friends), next weekend he will be headlining at the Emerald Queen Casino here in Tacoma.

I remember Chubs when he was Ernest Evans. His Fly was well-known in 1961.

Tomovoz, when you and Colin were headlining here in Tacoma last September, I should have checked to see who was appearing at the Emerald Queen.  They specialize in acts that only you (and possibly DR Rodzinski) would foam at the mouth to see.

We would not have forgone the company we had TCB. - even for an Emerald Queen.

Chubs married 1962's Miss World. Catharina "Loddy Lo" Lodders.
You needed to know that.
