Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a certain trash value, and now it is time for you to post until the trashy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OCCLUDE!
-
I got back from the Seattle Storm women's basketball game a couple of hours ago (they lost by eight points :() and have caught up with all the posts from yesterday.
After that, I tried to do some screen captures of BK's original pilot to "Tabatha." I have two different DVD player programs on my computer. With one of them, the disc played perfectly, but I couldn't do a screen capture. All I would get is a black box. The other program has a screen capture/picture taker, but the disc wouldn't play at all! All I could get is this:
-
It's not supposed to do that at all! BK, it's a good thing that you're more interested in "The Partridge Family" stuff, but hopefully someone else can do "Tabatha" as well as "The Partridge Family." Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. :-\
-
Good morning, all! I woke up around 5:30 to the strains of Stephen Schwartz' "Fathers and Sons." I don't know what it means in the scheme of the day, but it's certainly my most important thought at the moment.
Around 6:30, I'll call the car service, and head out to LaGuardia. Next time I post will be in Ohio. Keep those travel and health vibes coming!
-
Vibes for DR Elmore.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
An occlude is sort of like a prelude, but lasts eight times longer.
We won't go into how long the fugue that follows lasts, but I advise going to the bathroom before the performance.
-
I have a bunch of the Tabatha screen grabs which I will email to you.
But here is one of them.
-
Okay one more.
-
This just happened. I discovered after a virus scan I had a folder and within those files where many folders and files with nonsense names. (numbers, symbols etc) I could not delete them. I could not change the name. Contacted microsoft. With the tech (and through email) we tried many different things. None of them successful. Last resort was to reformat the drive. ( An auxilary drive) Couldn't do it. So I had decided to buy a program that did it. That worked. But backing up a couple of programs I screwed up somehow and they did not save them properly. I was able to restore one of them and waiting from the other company how to fix the problem.
-
Morning all!
Many Vibes but Safe trip and Heath to our dear Elmore.
-
Many good thoughts to our Elmore as he flies across the skies to Ohio.
-
Glad to hear Miss Perfect Crime is not involved in The Fantasticks. It might turn out to be a good production then.
TCB, Perfect Crime has been running, uninterrupted except for moving to new theatres, for over 20 years. I remember it being one of the worst "professional" things I have ever seen and I mean EVER. In over 30 years of seeing theatre that ranks in the Top 5.
-
Great pictures of Mr. Kimmel, looking so young and hirstute (not that he doesn't look young now, I shouldn't go there ;))
-
We are supposed to get rain this weekend. Right now it's cloudy and it's supposed to get more humid as the day wears on.
Yesterday was the longest day of the year so I walked over to the Hudson River and walked along the Parkway. What a nice way to celebrate the Solstice. There was a breeze from the water and the smell (no, not that kind of bad smell) of fresh water was invigorating. I then walked home, put on a Sopranos DVD and rode the exercise bike.
I'm now at my desk about to plunge back into the AT&T Foundation.
Back later!
-
The worst thing that happened on the computer? Maybe finding out that the Trivia question is coming back but I'll be out of town and won't be able to work on it until Sunday night.
Or have I missed the point of the question? :)
-
Good morning all!
-
I think I've told Bruce this, but he was a big hit in the 1970's with lots of the kids at my Yeshivah, and those pictures bring back memories of some performances that were very special to us Yeshivah kids in those days.
-
Great pix of our young BK!
Fortunately, I've never had any real computer disaster (knock wood) where I lost massive amounts of work or stored info or anything like that. The worst thing I've had is where something was taking over my homepage and it took forever to isolate the problem and get rid of it.
-
Good morning!
I fully intended to be on-line this morning around 8 a.m., but plans don't often happen just right.
Anyway, it's a beautiful but hot day and the pool should be just right for swimming and sunbathing in a little bit.
Showers are forecast for later in the afternoon but I'll be home long before then.
-
I've never had any computer disasters, either. Yep, I've had a couple die on me, but thankfully, I never lost any vital information that I didn't have on backup floppies or CD-Rs.
-
Mail delivery is sure funny. For the last few weeks, my mail has been coming mid-afternoon after many years of coming around noon.
Today, it came at 10:30. So unpredictable.
-
So, I'll be spending this afternoon and evening with THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN Seasons 3-4.
I'm looking forward to these color episodes, not because of their dramatic quality (the show got sillier and more childish in these years), but simply hoping the picture quality will surpass what I've taped off TV for years. Usually, the color episodes had too much contrast and the colors were rather pale. I'm hoping Warners has done right by the materials they had to work with.
-
After seeing DR RODZINSKI'S post last night, I am immediatly booking Bald Bill Hagan and the Trocaderos to play at my Home Strip Tease Party!
It will be TOO much fun!
-
DR JOSE is on his way to VASSAR?
Perhaps he can do his favorite R/H song as he did in the fifth grade!
-
I got my SUPERMAN 3/4 notice as well....he is flying on his way to Indiana!
NOW....I must say, after watching the DVD of The Doris Day Special, why I don't remember them fondly. They are done without an audience and with ALL prerecorded music/vocals and "reaction." The dancing is really bad....I remember thinking that even then. Doris looks okay, but she looks better on film than on video tape.
And in one sequence she is buzzed by a fly and that is the take that is used in the finished show.
It all seems so lazy and canned.....it's hard NOT to enjoy Doris Day (and Perry Como) - and I did....but not much.
-
Hmm....losing things on the computer that I know are there!
Just last week I had the worst problem I ever had....I kept getting DNS Server Error and could not connect to the internet. Maddening. It went on for days.
Of course I finally discovered that my Grisoft/AVG Virus protection was the culprit. I uninstalled and installed MacAfee and so far so good.
-
Great pictures of Mr. Kimmel, looking so young and hirstute (not that he doesn't look young now, I shouldn't go there ;))
Svelte....I was thinking "svelte"....
One of my favorite forums is currently undergoing a bitchfest in which a number of folks are carping about the list not meeting their needs...how they want to "unsubscribe" when all one needs do is go away and stop posting...how people aren't talking about things that interest them....etc., etc., whine, whine, whine.
If they would simply address the topics they would like to see discussed -- and then "discuss them" -- I think all the problems would go away.
But no...it's EVERYONE ELSE'S fault.
Funny story: When I was on USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) in the mid-1980s, I was the chief in charge of shipboard TV and radio. We had 5 TV channels and one of my tasks was to program them all. One channel was exclusively for training and one channel was exclusively for Armed Forces TV programs sent to us on a weekly basis (sufficient for programming one channel).
The other three channels were movie channels. We had a movie library courtesy of the Armed Forces TV network...and we had a ship's library...we would spend a lot our inport time renting movies and dubbing them and then playing them on our three channels.
One night, at sea, we had all five channels going. I had scheduled "Laura", and it was midway through the film. An aviator called and began berating me for showing a black-and-white movie...plus it was a movie that had no action in it. As I was diplomatically addressing his points -- telling him there were other channels to watch and that if he couldn't change the channel he might find another room where crewmembers were watching something he would like -- my boss was taking another call.
As I finished my call from the aviator, my boss listened intently to what was being said on his line. He then declared, "Because it's a fucking classic!" and calmly replaced the receiver onto the phone.
And that reminds me of internet forums....people either take the time to discuss differences of opinion...or people "flame".
-
I got one batch of photos, Shayne, but not the first one above, which I like (the sitting on the couch like so much fish photo). The really nauseating thing about seeing said photo is the realization that if I wanted to be THAT thin again, I'd have to lose ANOTHER thirty pounds (not that I've lost thirty yet - still hovering between twenty and twenty-two). My "filming" weight was the same for fourteen years in a row and never varied but by a pound or two - 137 pounds, size thirty waist. If I did that now I hate to think what I'd like.
-
You ain't never gonna have to sixteen inch wais' agin.
MR BK Adam is flying into LA today so you will probably hear from him in the next couple of days.
I am sorry Ron. This post did not meet my needs at this time. I must now unsubscribe as you failed to read my mind.
DR VIXMOM - glad your story last night had a happy ending. I can understand your panic.
-
If we don't get more Allison Hayes photos, I will have to leave this group because it is not meeting my needs.
No one mentions Allison.
-
Let's have a discussion. You can pick the topic, but if I am not interested in it, I will have to complain.
Yes, DR RLP....I post a very few groups....and sooner or later....it happens just as you wrote....
-
I like what MR BK wrote a few weeks ago, and that is while everyone thinks IM's and cell phones and blackberries are keeping us in constant communication - the truth is, they are keeping us apart, because now a face to face meeting is NOT the normal thing. People prefer to communicate with an electronic device between them...
SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In an effort to distract from needs not being met, I offer the following photos of the latest line in Halloween costumes:
There's probably a bit of costume construction trouble here, but the effect is still good:
Cute!
He's totally embarrassed!
Thursday greetings! (I think I missed Wednesday all together, didn't I?)
Many travellers today - vibes to DRs Elmore, Jose and any others who are on the road or in the skies.
Several of my co-workers are departing in the next couple of days for New Orleans for the annual conference of the American Library Association (http://www.ala.org). It's the first big convention to visit New Orleans since Katrina swept through there. There was much discussion, teeth-gnashing, and hand-wringing about whether or not ALA would move the conference. Apparently, the city is really rolling out the red carpet for the librarians. There are also many librarian volunteer initiatives that are going early or staying late to help put damaged libraries back together.
-
And this one terrifies me:
-
It's not supposed to do that at all! BK, it's a good thing that you're more interested in "The Partridge Family" stuff, but hopefully someone else can do "Tabatha" as well as "The Partridge Family." Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. :-\
Can you import it into moviemaker George?
Been on the phone with Apple for the last thirty minutes. We've got us some trouble, unfortunately. Something on the hard drive cannot be repaired using the boot up disc - it gets a quarter of the way through its scan then finds something it can't repair. They suggest doing a complete erase and install from the discs I have - however, I'd have to then reinstall AOL and Final Draft and Office Works and that's all a pain in the butt cheeks. But, I do have the entire hard drive backed up to a mini-hard drive, and that's current as of 6/7 (this week's attempt to do the weekly hard drive backup, failed), and all my important files and Word docs update nightly, so I'm current as of last night at ten (the only thing that's not current is today's notes, and that doesn't matter - but that's the only work I did after ten). The Apple lady suggested we might want to try Disc Warrior to see if that will repair the problem - if not, then I've got to have my Mac guy come over and reformat the hard drive, erase everything, and then reinstall from my mini-hard drive backup - she said if he does that correctly, I might not have to reinstall any programs - they should all be there just fine. I've e-mailed my Mac guy. This I do not need, let me tell you that. Very, very annoying.
TOD - when I started, about 6 years ago, helping my predecessor do nonprofit outreach, one of my first tasks was to create an email mailing list. By late 2004, I'd been the grants librarian for about a year and a half and had build the mailing list up to about 700 entries. Our library system converted to a new email system and, you got it, my mailing list didn't survive the conversion. As DR Jose said the other day, "ARRRGGGHHHHH!"
More dog pictures please! I loved the Yoda one.
Probably...if I knew anything about a moviemaker, which I don't. ::)
Allison who?
The one who left Peyton Place and wound up adopting twenty-five children.
Topic of the Day: The single worst thing that has ever happened on a computer that I've owned was two years ago in April. I had just moved into the house that I'm now renting (from my sister) and at my apartment, my computer worked just perfectly. I unplugged it and put it in my car. When I got to the new house, I plugged it in and pushed the power button. Nothing. I pushed the button again. Nothing again. I had no idea what to do. I called my sister's boyfriend (he built the computer) and couldn't figure it out, either! Eventually, I had to get a whole new hard drive. It just died. No warning, no nothing. Of course NOTHING was backed up and I lost EVERYTHING on it...pictures, MP3 files, e-mails going back several years and all my programs. :'( I truly was in a period of mourning. I wasn't able to get to HHW for about three weeks.
And that was the single worst thing that has ever happened on a computer that I've owned.
-
And now...to work. :P
;)
-
TOD:
I've had a power supply on a PC explode once. I turned the dang thing on and "POOF!" (it was a real loud POOF!) Fortunately, it didn't effect the hard drive and I didn't loose any data. But I had no internet connection at home for almost five days (can you imagine?)
-
Speaking of A-Hole-L, has everyone heard about this (http://www.break.com/index/aolhell.html) yet?
-
MIcheal, in those pictures, BK has not aged a day since then!!
-
Speaking of A-Hole-L, has everyone heard about this (http://www.break.com/index/aolhell.html) yet?
It was apparaently a slow news day yesterday in Seattle. I not only heard about the story, but one of the local channels played the entire five minute conversation at both six o'clock and eleven.
-
Probably...if I knew anything about a moviemaker, which I don't. ::)
Do you MSN? If you do I can walk you through it
Those are your six favorites? Or who you think America will vote in?
If it's the former, I"m surprised that you liked james and danielle. But especially danielle. She was quite a bitch! :)
I really think America's vote will be top-heavy on BB6 (kaysar, janelle, howie). I don't love howie, but i want to see him in there with kaysar and janelle).
I would be surprised if america did not vote in Marcellas. And I think Will has to be a fan favorite as well.
-
Just read a Library Journal review of this book and thought some DRs might want to ask their local public library to order it:
Is that like AOL's Instant Message? I have that, but haven't used it in a while...but it's still on my computer.
Yes, I have both MSN and AOL. I do not like Yahoo..
I like Yahoo....but Google is best....and Excite is very good too...although it's email storage is very small.
There are couple of really good ones for the soaps also. I have one at home that has a lot of old telly shows in both US and British.
I have yahoo / prodigy email. I have not tried google email
-
LOL DR DtM - well....since Allison made her first movie in 1954 around the time that Grace was working on the novel Peyton Place....it just might be that she purloined the name from you-know-who for her character.
-
A first: I've been attending the ALA Annual Conference, every several years, since 1973 (no, I'm not going to New Orleans this year). For the first time in my memory, in the pre-convention coverage in Library Journal, there's significant space devoted to "In Case of Medical Emergency..." information.
-
There has been a definate lack of Allison Hayes photos/mentioning around her, I might add.
I am certain their would be no objection to resuming the Allison Hayes photo of the week (or day, even!) ;D
Just on the phone with my pal Penny Peyser - we'll lunch tomorrow.
Since the phones are pretty light this afternoon (knock on wood) I am spending some time obsessively planning our trip to California. I have created a chart so that we can plot out our various activities, and try out different dates and times for our schedule while we are there. It's not a vacation unless I have planned things within an inch of our lives!! :)
-
Tpunk, I am at loose ends also today and I am doing some surfing and minding the desk.
Have fun in California. ARe you going to visit with bk?
Sounds like you and I should vacation together ;D
Vixdad believes that vacations are for resting and relaxing and lying around doing as little as possible ... he WILL NOT understand that a vaction must be filled so that not a precious moment is wasted and every possible venue is visited.
Planning my trip to Washington DC. The play we were planning to see on Friday night, LOVE-LIES-BLEEDING, got pretty lukewarm reviews, so I'm wondering if it might be better to just see MAME twice, or else do something other than theater on Friday night.
Has anyone heard anything new on whether MAME is coming to NYC?
-
Evening sightseeing in DC may be an idea, but the weather is supposed to be terrible tomorrow night.
So, yesterday amazon shipped my errant package again, this time overnight for today delivery. Guess what? The package was scanned in in Sylmar, but Sylmar isn't my UPS center, Van Nuys is. Meanwhile, UPS has already made its delivery to my mail place. Meanwhile, Van Nuys has not scanned in the package, which means who knows where it is. Meanwhile, it's obviously not getting here today and if they don't find it and get it to Van Nuys it won't be here tomorrow - I'm on the phone with a supervisor from UPS who is trying to find out what's going on. I mean, if you can't get an overnight package (at that huge cost) overnight then I don't know what. Sickening. If I get no satisfaction from UPS I'm going to make amazon send another overnight package every day until I get one.
-
Enjoyed my outing at the pool today. I was there over two hours, got a nice amount of tan without overdoing it, and the water was very refreshing. It's in the low 90s here, so that just hit the spot.
And it's not only a question of having every moment filled, but making sure that you do things in the best order. Add to the fact that we both have multiple family members in the area and things get even more complicated. But after 5 years of trips to San Jose together, we have gotten the hang of things. But the chart helps too!
LOL...you've set up QUITE the imagery here, Jack...at least for me. Something about "electronic devices" and people communicating with one "between" them.
Sounds an awful lot like sex is going on somewhere....
I spent the rest of this afternoon with Superman - well, the DVDs of Season 3-4 of the series.
My heart literally sank when the openingcredits for the first episode were running. Full of scratches, dirt, and debris (and with a 1957 copyright; these shows were done in 1955-56), I was very disheartened.
The episodes themselves, however, look for the most part SPLENDID! The color is nice and rich; the images are mostly very sharp, and except for some fairly thick spotting on "Test of a Warrior" (looks like someone spilled a glass of iced tea on the print) no damage to speak of on the episodes themselves.
I watched the entire disc 1 this afternoon, and was carried way back (way, way back, a Mr. Peabody reference) to my childhood watching these episodes. So glad to have them, so far at least, looking so good.
-
I'm so jealous- I wish I was relaxing by a pool right now!
Apparently the package is in Van Nuys now (although they haven't physically seen it). I had a supervisor call Van Nuys and she said it was too late to get it out today and I'd get it sometime tomorrow. I went on a rant about customer service and if the package is sitting in Van Nuys, which is ten minutes from its destination and the screwup was UPS's that it was their responsibility to get it to me no matter what. They said I could go pick it up, and I said that would not be happening.
I finally got her to let me talk to Van Nuys and I went through my spiel with them, and they've promised me to get their hands on the package and to deliver it to my house between six and seven. We'll see. I gave them my phone number because if there's a prob and it doesn't get here, then they've got to get it to the original address - my mail place, as I cannot hang around here all day waiting for the stupid UPS people to come by. Hopefully, they will live up to their word and get it to me tonight.
-
And I have disc 2 cued up in the player ready to be watched when I get back to the den later today.
I'll probably watch the CSI rerun (record THE OFFICE as well), and then watch the new episodes of WINDFALL (possibly for the last time unless the drama is greatly improved).
If it's the former, I"m surprised that you liked james and danielle. But especially danielle. She was quite a bitch! :)
Actually, Danielle is probably the best player "Big Brother" ever saw. Danielle was the first player to deliberately map out every move in advance and to enter into a secret alliance with only one other person, with neither of them being suspected of same. As much as I hate it that Marcellas trusted her enough to give up the Golden Veto and, subsequently, endured the trauma of being stabbed in the back, it was Marcellas' fault for what happened (just as Kaysar NEVER should have believed Jennifer for one instant).
Drew could keep Danielle safe from one group and she could keep him safe from another group.
What destroyed Danielle was "Big Brother's" having played the diary room tapes for all the ousted houseguests who were voting for the winner. They heard the secret reflections, comments, etc., that Danielle shared with "Big Brother" but never had been told would be shared with any of the contestants who voted. Never had a houseguest been as colorful and in-your-face about her feelings as Danielle was in the diary room.
That was a serious mistake on CBS' part and they've regretted it ever since. The rules were changed immediately and no one gets to see the diary room sessions, outside of votes, any longer.
I most definitely will be voting for Danielle, Monica, Marcellas, Bunky, Kaysar, Janelle, Howie & Erika. Alison can rot in hell.
May the best six win...and may "Big Brother's" six choices be interesting.
I think it will be neat to see who allies with whom...and who gets targeted immediately because of how they behaved on their original Big Brother appearances.
-
The CHARLIE CHANs came today, too, and I'm sure I'll wait and watch one of them tomorrow. I'm not sure I've ever seen IN SHANGHAI or IN EGYPT, so I'm sure to begin with one of those.
-
Other than Bunky, I think Monica is my favorite from all the Big Brother shows. She was always direct and confrontive but not spiteful without provocation.
Even if the votes don't go Bunky's way, I have a feeling CBS will put him in. He's the nicest of those possible contestants, and I think it might be a relief to have someone in there who's not a viper or a schemer every second. Sure, the snakes keep things stirred up, but there needs to be a little balance or at least a respite from all the chicanery.
-
A thirty inch waist, BK? Oh...those days are sadly gone for the both us I'm afraid.
-
When Pogue still had a thirty inch waist.
I think I have officially been home from work too long. Today I actually recognized Matt Ashford when he came on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, AND I knew his character's name.
-
You will forgive me, DakotaCelt, but I officially stopped watching DAYS back in 1982.
-
I think I have officially been home from work too long. Today I actually recognized Matt Ashford when he came on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, AND I knew his character's name.
YES, my Johnson boys are back in town!!
Matt plays Jack Deveraux and STephen Nichols plays Steve Johnson who si suffering from amnesia and claims his name is Nick Stockton.
I had quit watching days in 93 what Matt left the first time and then started when he came back on 01. I quit Days cold turkey then. HOwever, since mid-2003, I have only seen the Canadian edits and read the recaps for I refused to watch the writing of James E. Reilly and his baloney. I am still wary of watching the show full time due to the horrid writing and character assassination that Reilly had done. Needless to say, I am selective in what I watch when it comes to Days.
I normally work at night in the school year so I sometimes watch the soaps but not always. This past year my viewing days was almost nill and limited to the few days that Matt appeared.
I actually started watching Matt when he was on Search for Tomorrow.
-
You will forgive me, DakotaCelt, but I officially stopped watching DAYS back in 1982.
TCB you are forgiven...
I have heard there were some good stories back then. I did not start watching Days until 1985 when STephen Nichols was Steve "Patch" Johnson was on the show. Matt was on SFT at the time.
-
How are you feeling TCB? I have had you in thoughts for a speedy recovery.
-
TPunk, just dont tell my student workers you have animal crackers!! They will haunt you!! ;)
-
Vixmom will the Vixter be getting her own cell phone now?
A couple of times my friend’s daughter was frightened and called me to collect her, once when her father forgot (and yet he was still annoyed she called me) & another time when she heard strange noises while home alone.
-
RLP, do you know of any good choco shops in SF that a freind of mine can visit
-
Ron, Where is the Girardellis choco shop in SF?
-
I have heard there were some good stories back then. I did not start watching Days until 1985 when STephen Nichols was Steve "Patch" Johnson was on the show. Matt was on SFT at the time.
During the fourteen years that I watched the show, the story lines mainly concerned the Horton family..... Mickey and Maggie, Bill and Laura, Tom and Alice, Tommy, Addie; plus Doug and Julie, Marlena, and the Andersons (Bob, and daughter Mary) Neil Curtis and Chris Kositchek.
-
Ron-some of those outfits are a bit creepy. :-\Keith should get a big kick out of them. ;D
-
Ron, Where is the Girardellis choco shop in SF?
Down near Fisherman's Wharf.
-
Let's take a look at a really thin waistline:
-
How are you feeling TCB? I have had you in thoughts for a speedy recovery.
*****POSSIBLE APPETITE SPOILER ALERT******
I still have the infection, although the pain has pretty much gone away. It has started to ooze however, which is not attractive at all.
-
Ron, Where is the Girardellis choco shop in SF?
There's also one in Chicago, right across from the American Girls Store by the Water Tower.
-
The animal crackers kept me from gnawing off my hand for nourishment but I am still hungry. When my shift is over at 6 I will grab a quick dinner of pizza before our 6:30 staff meeting.
-
You will forgive me, DakotaCelt, but I officially stopped watching DAYS back in 1982.
I can beat that. I stopped watching in 1972.
I wish Marlena would go away...
Chris Kositchek existed then?
I have always admired Audrey Hepburn. Classy lady!
I had originally quit in 93 when Matt left and limited return when he came back on 01. I tape and watch his storyline and FF the rest that does nto interest me.
Someone just posted the script from Dee Hall's first day on DAYS...
Amazing some of the things that turn up on these soap sites...
I love Deidre Hall. She is so beautiful.
Oh yes, Chris (Josh Taylor) was an important part of the show in the late Seventies and Eighties before he went off to co-star with Valerie Harper in VALERIE.[/size]
I will agree to disagree with you. Yes she is pretty but I am just not a fan of hers.
Josh Taylor is back again but now as Roman.
However I do like Suzanne Rogers and Susan Seaforth Hayes
If Pogue keeps putting up that picture, HHW will indeed become the most popular site on the internet. :)
I had a 32-inch waist throughout my twenties, but I was very unhappy then. So go figure.
-
Ate a nice chicken caesar salad and am quite full, and hopefully that will be my meal o' the day - maybe some fat-free candy later.
Mr. Computer Man is on his way - vibes and xylophones that he can repair the problem by using Disk Warrior - if he can, we won't have to do anything else.
Why we occasionally love the Internet: I just got an extraordinary e-mail from a lady who knew me when - back in Ye Olde Teen Years. She googled me, found this here site (and presumbably Shayne's site) and wrote me the sweetest letter. In it, she avers that I was one of her first boyfriends and that she did shows at Bluth Brothers Theater (those who've read Kritzer Time know all about that - although I call it Beach Brothers Theater in the book). Now, I have yet to ascertain exactly who it is, but if it's who I THINK it is I cannot wait to talk to her. I guess there's an off chance I might have known two Jeans, but what is the chance I would have dated two Jeans in the course of a year? Very little. But, my Jean was called Jeannie (at least by me), so that's what I need to find out. I'll have much to say on this topic if she calls me or writes back.
I just got a copy of one of third kritzerland book at the used bookstore here in Fargo. I hope to start on it this weekend.
Ron, how far is fisherman's wharf from downtown?
Ron, my freind is asking about these little electric cabs you can rent for a certain amount of money, do they still exist?
-
Ron, how far is fisherman's wharf from downtown?
By using Google, (http://www.fishermanswharf.org/) you can find a map of downtown San Francisco.
Fisherman's Wharf is downtown...it's in one of the most touristy sections of the city...
-
Ron, my freind is asking about these little electric cabs you can rent for a certain amount of money, do they still exist?
News to me. I haven't heard of it, although one of my co-workers said she believes they exist.
A freind of mine is attending a Commmunications fair in SF and I told him he could not come back to the library unless he brought back chocolate! ;)
The understatement of the year. ;)
I vaguely remember some time ago, Mr. C.E.P. complained about all the beefcake pictures that were being posted here on HHW, yet he seems to have no qualms about posting beefcake pictures of himself! ;)
-
THanks for the info Ron, I have forwarded it to him... He says thanks!!!
He has been ordered to bring chocolate back....
Trivia....
What two songs did Days popularize in the 1980s?
I only know Gloria Loring's FRIENDS AND LOVERS.
Well, it was either Matt's beefcakes photos or my oozing story; but I find myself all alone at this here site!
-
At least, today , we aren't facing an all-time low.
............... but close!
Has anyone tried either Vonage or Comcast home phone service?
I have not had a big computer meltdown, then today, the very day Mr. BK brings up this topic, I try to open a file for this GRENDEL program I am working on and it crashes my quark multiple times. It says it can't be opened except by a different version of the software that nobody at my office has. How I was able to work on it yesterday, I know not. I sincerely don't want to have to do it all again.
Normally, I'd blame Jose, but this is clearly Sir Kimmel's fault for bringing up computer mishaps!
-
It's definitely plausible that Jeannie shortened to Jean as she got more mature.
-
I've had three and a half hours of sleep so I'm about ready to fall over. I am staying at my brother Randy's with his two crazy dogs, wonderful wife Jo and my nephew, the handsome and dashing Matt. His brother, my handsome ,dashing nephew Cory, picked me up at the airport this morning, but he mo longer lives here.
Most of my day was with my father, who had an exploratory procedure this morning to check for internal hemorrhaging. According to his doctor this afternoon, all looks good, but I am - as Eulalie MacKechnie Shinn would say - reticent. The last time we good a good report, we were told two days later that he was riddled with cancer.
So, tomorrow, I will spend the day with my father, dividing my time between the hiospital room and the cafeteria, where I will appropriate a table to work on a choral piece.
Thank you all for the vibes and good wishes. Not only is this best site on the internet, but it has the best people!
-
Welcome to Ohio, DR Elmore! I'm glad you're with your family and will be able to spend time with your father tomorrow. Continued thoughts and prayers.
-
Bryan should be here any minute :D. We get to meet his new, 5'10" girlfriend. I'm going to feel very, very short next to her. ;D
DR Jane - maybe somebody will take a picture that you can share?
-
I'm glad you got there safely, DR Elmore, and that you got a good report from the doctor. I hope you can enjoy the time with your family.
-
Good Evening!
Well, I had a good trip up to Poughkeepsie this morning... A surprisingly wonderful and productive production meeting and first rehearsal this afternoon... And then a nice trip back to the City That Never Sleep earlier tonight.
All in all, a very good day. The people up at NYS&F really know how to take care of their company members - very detailed oriented "attention". And I'm in a cute little "cottage" this year with a full kitchen!
And I'm blessed with a wonderful cast which is mix of some "newbies" and some Broadway veterans.
*DR Danise - Asa Somers who was in Once Around The Sun is a part of my company.
-
DR elmore - Good to know that you made it to Ohio safe and sound. I know that you're their to spend some time with your father, but I also hope that you allow yourself to get some well-deserved rest and sleep over the next few days. Don't forget to take care of yourself.
-
DR DakotaCelt - So... Chocolate in San Francisco? Hmm...
;)
I was only there for one day this past January, but I did manage to hit at least four chocolate shops while I was in town... So...
See's Candy which is based in South San Francisco has shops all over town. There is a small one right on Union Square Plaza (Powell Street side), and larger nearby one Polk Street.
And if your friend happens to be flying through San Francisco International Airport, there a couple of kiosks throughout the various terminals.
See's Candies in San Francisco (http://www.sees.com/seeshtm/shopframes.htm)
Also near Union Square is a Richart Chocolates boutique. They are a French company and they specialize in some truly unique and luxurious flavors - and with the accompanying luxury prices. However, the Richart boutiques are fun to "tour" - they're small, but beautifully laid out, and you can usually talk a member of the sales staff into a free sample or two.
Richart Chocolates (http://www.Richart-Chocolates.com)
The Swiss company, Teuscher, also has a store in San Fran on Sutter Street - just a block or two from Richart. The Champagne Truffles are de rigeur.
Teuscher San Francisco (http://www.teuschersf.com/)
Ghirardelli is the San Francisco chocolate company, and their main store and cafe is located near Fisherman's Wharf. -Just take the appropriate trolley down to the Wharf and walk up a few blocks to Ghirardelli Square. To be honest, I've never been that impressed with Ghirardelli chocolate, and I thought that when I bought from the source it would have tasted better, but it did not. Don't get me wrong, I won't ever turn a Ghirardelli chocolate square, but I just feel that their "premium" quality has declined lately. *And the pricing for the various bags and tins of chocolate is actually higher than it is at some drug and discount stores nearby. **There is usually a big discount table - however, the thought of buying "discount" - out of season - chocolate has never appealed to me. However...
The various ice cream sundaes and baked goods served at the Ghirardelli Caffe Chocolaterie and Ice Cream Manufactory are truly decadent and deeeee-lish! If your friend does go to Ghirardelli, make sure that he brings back a jar of their chocolate sauce!
Ghirardelli Square (http://www.ghirardellisq.com/[/url)
Ghirardelli (http://www.ghirardelli.com/)
So... If your friend is willing to do a little footwork, and if you really want some chocolate, may I suggest:
A "Discovery Ballotin" from Richart
A 4- or 8-piece box of Champagne Truffles from Teuscher
A San Francisco tin from Ghirardelli
And all the See's that your friend can pack into his luggage!
;)
-
Continued enjoying THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN including one of my all-time favorites "The Bully of Dry Gulch."
Truth be told, that episode doesn't have as sharp and blemish free elements as other episodes have had, but it's certainly good enough.
-
...And, believe it or not, I did do more in San Francisco the one day I was there then just eat chocolate. Really I did!
;)
-
Glad to read you got there and are reasonably happy so far with the care your father is receiving. I'm sure no matter what happens, you won't ever regret taking this trip regardless of the cost.
And DR Jose is right: don't forget to take care of yourself.
-
I watched about 1/3 of THE GIRL MOST LIKELY. I've never seen this musical before, and so far, the score (by Martin and Blane) has not impressed me despite the three stars out of four that Leonard Maltin has given the film. I'm hoping it gets better.
-
OOZE AND OZ - That's the name of my new TV series about TCB starring as the Wizard in WICKED and then...oh, never mind, I'm even grossing myself out with that one.
:)
-
Watched the CSI rerun tonight. I didn't remember much about it from earlier in the season (had to do with the death of a psychic), but I found it one of the show's lesser efforts this season. In addition to a mundane case, there was no George Eads tonigh,. not even a glimpse of him apart from the opening credits.
-
OH!
DR Dakota Celt - Electric Time Car Rentals is located down at Fisherman's Wharf. If I had spent more time in the city, I probably would have given them a try - they just started popping up in New York City too. -However, I'm not sure just how safe I would feel driving an electric car - or any car for that matter - in a "new" city.
I lasted for about thirty minutes of WINDFALL but halfway through the episode, I decided to bail out on the show. I couldn't stand another minute of the stupid, selfish, ridiculous characters and their decisions about life. Really bad writing just drove me away.
-
BK, was Matt supposed to be on Soap Talk to promote the dvd? (i can't remember if he was on or was scheduled to be on, or maybe it was only Kevin who was on). But I read that Soap Talk got the axe, and it sounded like they might not tape anymore shows.
-
Re: big brother.
I remember danielle well. And i do remember how she got screwed over by the diary room entries. I don't know if i think the fans will vote her in. But i do think the producers will put her in.
But as for monica, can someone remind me who she was. I think i remember her the least of everyone up for selection.
-
Well, I liked Chicken George and I voted for him
-
So, I filled in the last half hour of viewing with the second of the evening's episodes of THE OFFICE, one of my favorite ones from earlier in the season - the harbor cruise episode. Broke my heart the first time I watched it, and was just as powerful the second time around.
Irritatingly, our local NBC affiliate chose to preempt NBC's first hour of prime time (admittedly reruns) with a locally produced travelogue around NC called CAROLINA TRAVELER. They show these about 10 times a year. So, I didn't get to see tonight's first OFFICE rerun.
-
Yep, SOAP TALK has been canceled. They aren't taping any more shows, but they do have shows in the can that haven't aired yet.
-
Rehearsal is over! At last!
RE:Electronic devices and someone somewhere having sex....DR RLP....I can only hope it is so. It ain't happening in Indiana....but maybe somewheres....
-
Glad you made it to your destination, DRELMORE.....
-
DR FJL - If you've never seen the show... And you're in the mood for some true silliness, there's always the long-running Shear Madness up in the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theatre Lab.
-
Well it's one thing to have a skinny waist like Audrey....and quite another to have a skinny waist AND a BIG port des bras.
;D ;D
-
Rehearsal is over! At last!
RE:Electronic devices and someone somewhere having sex....DR RLP....I can only hope it is so. It ain't happening in Indiana....but maybe somewheres....
I don't know DR JRand55...my friend Jim just moved back to Indiana...so it might be happening...it just might!
-
With Allison AND Jacque in that picture...who would even be looking at poor Marcia Henderson?? :-\
-
I voted for Chicken George just because I wanted SOMEONE from season 1 to be on this round!
All the others from the season must have lives now! LOL!
-
Bosco and I had our first doggie training tonight. It went well enough...Bosco behaved, but he didn't always pay attention...and he seemed to forget how to sit!
-
Well, don't everyone speak at once!
-
My DeepDiscountDVD order arrived today! I got The Lon Chaney (Jr.) collection, the entire series of LANCELOT LINK SECRET CHIMP, season 2 of LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, and the special edition of BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS!
I see that Claydes Charles Smith of KOOL AND THE GANG passed away at age 57.
The cat, as I call it, was lounging in the sun on my sidewalk when I came home from work. I made some more phone calls and found out that she's been wandering the neighborhood for at least 2 weeks. She's also in heat. I called the vet and they don't have any openings but may be able to squeeze me in tomorrow. If they can't I may check out another vet. I did put some blankets and an improvised litter box in the room that is pretty much gutted and needs to be redone. It has sliding glass doors so she could see out. I tried to take her in there but she totally freaked and ran from me.
So I let it go for tonight. When I looked out before going to bed she was on the porch enjoying a night time snack. I opened the door and she was friendly, but then took off after some fireflies.
I think she has adopted me. But I'm not willing to have an outdoor cat - and she must be spayed. So hopefully I'll get her to the vet tomorrow. We'll take it from there.
-
Sometimes they just find you, don't they, Cillaliz?
-
I think I shall be heading downstairs to bed now.
GOod night!
-
The Cat
-
The cat about 2 minutes after I sat down
-
She needs a bath, may have ear mites and I'm working on feeding her - she's way too thin. I'm hoping that it's just minor things wrong with her. I guess she was doing the cat in heat howling under my neighbor's window last night. Glad it wasn't mine!
-
I must say I have gotten to know my neighbors a lot better since the cat came along.
-
Jose - Have you heard any gossip about whether MAME is coming to NYC?
-
Well. It wasn't good news around these here parts, computer-wise. Nothing we did could fix the problem, so we had to do a complete erase and install on the hard drive. Then it took a long time to get everything back the way it was because when I purchased my backup program I didn't go for "pro" (no one explained it to me) which means that my mini-drive wasn't bootable - had it been, this would have taken three hours less. But he got everything back the way it was and working fine (and faster) - because it wasn't bootable, he had to resinstall a lot of drivers for various software things. Hopefully everything will work fine now, and I'm going to upgrade to pro so if this ever happens again it will be much more quick. It took a total of five hours, which is going to cost me puhlenty.
-
Jose - Have you heard any gossip about whether MAME is coming to NYC?
Jose's not enough!
You need someone else to "put the blame on", don't you? ;)
-
The Cat
My, what a pretty cat!
There's a similar one roaming around my mother's place; I believe it's a he, and he's hard to get. He mainly wants to go in and explore the house; doesn't care much if we try to pet him!
All black and white with shiny fur!
-
Sorry to hear about your computer woes, BK. I'm glad I have my DH and DS to keep my computer running.
