Margaret Colin and Guillermo Diaz on ROYAL PAINS! I love them.

I'll look forward to seeing them tomorrow while I eat lunch.

I think it's time to read a few more pages of my Mary Martin biography before crashing.  Since I have a day to do various and sundry tasks, including the laundry, I will be up reatively early, but it looks as if I will be primarily working around the apartment.

Next, I watched (for the umpteenth time) THE WIZARD OF OZ. I'm trying to decide about buying that expensive Blu-ray box set of the film when it comes out this fall. I've seen the movie in HD on TNT-HD, and it's really wonderful, and I know the Blu-ray will be even more spectacular, but watching the last DVD release tonight, I like what I see, so I'm still on the fence about it.

If there was a 2-disc Blu-ray set for around $20-25 I'd buy it without hesitation. As it stands now, there don't seem to be any plans to release anything but this collector's set.

I also watched the featurette about the restoration of OZ in that particular release. They scanned the film in 4K before downconverting it to DVD.

The new OZ has been scanned in 8K and then downconverted to Blu-ray, so it does promise to be rich with more detail than we've ever seen in the movie before.

I had meant to mention today that while I was sorting through the McGlinnventory, I came across a copy of a full score from the 1908 musical LITTLE NEMO. On the title page, the copyist had written down some information on number of copies of orchestra parts:
  5 Violin 1
  4 Violin 2
  2 Violas
  2 Celli
  2 Basses
  3 Percussion!

I had always said that I knew there were two percussionists for BABES IN TOYLAND but the part looked as thought it were for three players. Today, 2 percussion is considered a lot, but I guess if Victor Herbert needed 3, he got 'em!

My real name is Sherlock Holmes.

Next I watched another episode of THE CLOSER from the season 4 set. This was the one with Sanchez getting three shots in the back while they were striving to prevent a massacre at a mall. I didn't remember which of the two boys was the nut job, so it was a kind of pleasant surprise when he was revealed.

And then I watched tonight's BURN NOTICE from the DVR. Wonderful, exciting episode. I love the actor who plays Nate, by the way.

DR ELMORE thanks for the DVD recommendation.  I did not know Ian Kelly's book had been the basis of a film.  Don't buy it yourself, I found it in the bargain bin and I will go back Monday and see if there is another one.

yes, DR CILLA LIZ - I like that Far Side cow cartoon too.

Two other Cow Classics:

Two cows sit on the couch.  The phone is ringing.  Cow says:  "There it goes again, and here we sit without opposable thumbs.

Two cows doing the Charleston on the coffee table while holding martini glasses.  Farmer's wife says to farmer:  "I told you we shouldn't invite the cows in for drinks."

Not sure why I'm still awake, no storm predicted until the middle of the night, so I may as well get a few hours of sleep.

Well...

I've spent a good chunk of tonight futzing with my iPhone.  I installed the new 3.0 OS yesterday, and all went well.  But when I went to do another Sync and Backup, I noticed that it took a long(!) time for those processes to finish, almost close to 90 minutes.  -As opposed to 3-5 minutes.  So...

I did some Googling, and consulted with some other iPhone owners/friends.  Some of them had the same issue, some of them didn't.  Well...

I went ahead and did a complete Restore, and that actually seems to have fixed whatever was causing the "hang time" with the Backup and Sync.

*Of course, I'm just wondering what kind of "stuff" will be happening when the new iPhone 3GS goes on sale at 7:00am.  I know a couple of people who will be lining up bright and early at the 5th Avenue Apple Store - and I may go down and join them in line.  I'm not in the market to buy the new model, but I am curious to see if they have the same madhouse as they did when the 3G came out.

About to start a third motion picture, but doubt I'll watch more than thirty minutes, at which point I'll switch over to CD listening.

OK folks here are some random thoughts about Monday's reading of The First Nudie Musical. I know it was a reading and not staged. But I did like it.

I have seen the film and I enjoyed the stage version as much and even more in some places. The people I was with enjoyed the show and the audience were laughing and enjoying the songs.

The program did not list the songs and therefore some of them are on a best guess basis,

“Porno Business” is the first new song and very enjoyable. I especially like the word play/rhyme scheme and judging by the audience reaction they like the song as well.

Niki Scalera who plays Rosie has a good voice and her comic timing is very good too, She has a couple of solos but I can't read my notes for the name for the first. I would like to see more of her character in the show. Her other solo is I Don't Need Fireworks. I think this can be a breakout song and might just become a staple for cabaret acts.

I enjoyed the performance of Russ Hobbie as George Brenner. As BK mentioned before he really does remind one of Alan Abalew from the film, but Alan’s tongue was a lot shorter. The audience seemed to appreciate Hobbie’s performance and the use of his tongue.

I thought the performance of Michael Irish as John Smithee was quite good. He didn't quite have the same charm as Bruce had in the film, but he has a lot of potential if he continues with the role.

Act Two started with Previsions and the stage version is more amusing than its counterpart in the film. I liked the parade of Previsions and would like to see more of them. The more perverse the better.

The Stunt C*ck scene worked very well and it is too bad the ensemble member who played Schlong was not identified in program and for the other roles he played. I thought he stood out among the ensemble players.

The stage version of Eunice is written somewhat different from the film and I liked changes made for the character. Robin Shelby did a good job. She has her own song; different from the film version

Harrison White was great as Dick Davis and I am glad to see that they are going to write more material for him. Some members were screaming with laughter with all the song ditties he came up with.

What can I say about Alet Taylor? This is the third show that I have seen her that Bruce has done (What If? & The Brain From Planet X are the other two) She is so good. She can take any material and run with it. I wish she had other songs to sing. I love her!!

What else??

Barry Pearl who played Eddie did a fun job and the character is better developed in the stage version than the movie. There needs to be a character who is the stumbling block from Harry succeeding. Eddie is that character.

Perhaps he needs to be more of a comic villain. I would like to see him throw in more pitfalls so Harry won’t succeed, but Harry still does. I also liked the running gag of  Eddie's visions of what business he would put in the mall instead of the studio.

Oh yes. I liked that Rosie sings in Let Them Eat Cake.

And I do miss I Don't Have To Hide Anymore. (The end title song in the film) but sadly it doesn't fit into this version.

I am looking forward to seeing the next reading in NYC and see where it goes to next.

I really liked it. I had a good time. My friends enjoyed and the audience around me seemed to like it to judging by the applause and laughter.

So to all the NYCers and nearby residents come see it when it comes to NYC next fall

Too exhausted,  so I must be errant and truant for one more week.

Am just now down to the closet full on camera stuff.  Oh, and the closet full of car stuff.  And the work bench/desk full of tooling.  Then all I have to do is hire someone to haul the rest away and turn in the apartment keys.  Yea.
