Sorry to deprive you of business, DR FJL, but I have just installed TurboTax 2007.

My favorite pasta is Linguine with Pesto Sauce. I like Spaghetti with Meat Sauce too, but not with meatballs. However, I find that when I eat any food made with tomato sauce the sauce inevitably ends up on my clothes. So I always where a BIB!
Here's a quick Meat Sauce recipe:
Brown ground beef in a some oil. Add one can of Del Monte Tomato Sauce with Oregano, Basil and Garlic. Cook until warmed through and thickened. Add over pasta.

Morning, all.
Our computer died over the weekend. Luckily most everything important had been backed up but I was lazy about my recent BBC clips and unless I can get those off the hard drive they are gone. I don't know when we will have a computer at the house again. I'm hoping sometime in the next two weeks. I will order my new computer from Dell tomorrow or Wednesday and it should be here quickly.
I had decided to buy a new computer anyway and take our old one out to Long Island for Anthony's mother. Well, that's not gonna happen! That's the most disappointing thing.
We have been without the computer since late Saturday evening and we haven't "absolutely" needed it. I guess because I know I have my office system during the week it's not a big issue. We read books, we conversed, we watched a couple of movies, we went to Borders and browsed. All in all, a pleasant (if grey weather) day.
That's it for now. I probably won't be around much since I'm busy with work from when I was away and you definitely won't see me this evening. I'll be here when I can.
Later!
-
Oh, DR Ben - that's awful! I'm so sorry.
The same thing happened to me some years back and even with the attempts by a data recovery service, I lost everything.
You'd think that would cause me to be more conscientious about backing up, but I am still remiss.
Oh yes, I am remiss. :(

And no, DR TCB, I did not say Swiss Miss.

I like Penne pasta (you can have the vodka), but when I was living in Lodi, New Jersey my pasta of preference was Mostaccioli (which is penne without the ridges).
-
Ben, I am sorry to hear about your home computer; but, at least, we can still hear about the oatmeal bowl.
-
Groovy, DR TCB! :)
-
It appears that Iowa has been good for Barack Obama. The latest polls show him now, with a 10 point lead over Clinton in New Hampshire.
-
DR JoseSPiano or some other foodie can fill us in, but Penne Vodka is usually in a pink sauce [I think because a little cream is added to the tomato sauce base?]. It can have bits of bacon or prosciutto as well.
Mostaccioli sounds good. I wonder how many distinct varieties of pasta there really are? Enough to boggle the mind, at any rate...
-
One of the most surprising thing for me when I moved to Lodi was the fact that one entire supermarket aisle was devoted to nothing but varieties of pasta. I had never seen that many different kinds in my life.
-
It's been about a year since I had to replace my computer, DR BEN. The place where I took it ask me if there was anything on the hard drive I wanted - not SOFTWARE - and I said no....of course a few days later, I remember there were some things.....but they are now gone gone gone.

That "just a little bit of rain" bk commented upon was enough to start a roaring torrent down the LA River which bent 1/2 steel piping!
Outages, damage in storm's wake (http://www.presstelegram.com/ci_7899325)
The intensity of Friday night's storm also managed to destroy a trash boom at the mouth of the Los Angeles River.
Field technician Dave Duncan of Frey Environmental went to the site at 6 a.m. Saturday to check on the boom and saw the effects of Mother Nature.
Duncan set up the booms six years ago to collect the trash that would otherwise flow into the bay and onto beaches.
However, the force of the water flowing down the river caused the half-inch thick steel to bend at a 90 degree angle.
"That's some incredible force," Duncan said.
He dragged the booms out of the water and said they will need to be repaired before they could be put back in the water.
"If we have another terrible storm, I'll be in trouble," Duncan said.
About 15 to 20 tons of trash were already loaded and ready to go to the landfill after the storm, but Duncan said he still had about 60 tons of trash to haul out of the water.
"I wish that people would put the trash where it belongs. It is pretty disgusting when you think about it," Duncan said.
Last year, the company hauled away 152 tons of trash, but since October, the company has already collected 452 tons of trash.
Yikes - nearly 50 tons of trash a week cruising down the river! (Which, if not captured, flows to the sea and then washes up on the beach at the next high tide!

Good morning, all. Was it JANE EYRE or MARTHA, INC that made my sleeping so lousy? Perhaps it was my neighbor above me. He's a nice young real estate fellow with a wonderful dog that he uses as babe bait, and he has the noisiest mattress on the Upper West Side. Last night he wandered in around 1 am with a young lady and the footsteps proceeded quickly from the apartment door to his bed. At around 9 this morning there was a flurry of activity from the sound of hurried footsteps, so I guess they overslept.
Today, I need to deal with the IRS and take a day away from this blased "Lady of the Slipper" report. Maybe my ideas will fall into place. Maybe I'll flap my arms and fly to the moon.

Tuna noodle casserole with spinach and cheese.
INGREDIENTS:
1 package (12 ounces) egg noodles, cooked and drained
2 packages (10 ounces each) frozen chopped spinach, cooked and drained
2 cans (6 1/2 to 7 oz each) tuna, drained
1 large jar (4 ounces) diced pimientos
2 teaspoons grated onion
2 cups grated sharp cheese, divided
PREPARATION:
Combine noodles, spinach and remaining ingredients, reserving about 1/2 cup of the cheese to sprinkle on top. Cook in covered casserole dish in 350° oven until cheese is bubbly.
(note: I have left out the spinach and substituted other greens and used spinach noodles. I have also added mushrooms before)

Yes, when it came out. My memories of it are vague, but I remember liking it and especially her.

TOD: There are many, many, MANY pasta dishes everyone should try. Among my favorites:
Tortellini con ragu (this would be the meat-stuffed tortellini in basic spaghetti meat sauce). Top it off with freshly grated Parmesan. Open a liter of red table wine with which you may wash it all down.
Pasta with olive oil sauteed with garlic cloves and crushed red pepper and topped with freshly grated Parmesan. This goes best with a white wine, but red works, too.
Spaghetti al arrabiata. Yummmm. Traditional meat sauce spiked with either chili or red pepper flakes. It should be hot enough to induce a sweat while eating, but not too hot to actually enjoy. Variations include a sausage sauce al arrabiato.
Oh, good golly. I've just finished a bacon and egg sandwich and I'm getting hungry.

This just in from the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7172116.stm):
Bille Piper's risque ITV2 drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl has been bought by US cable channel Showtime.
The station, also home to controversial shows such as lesbian drama The L Word and Dexter, plans to start running the first series in the Spring.
Rival channel HBO, home of The Sopranos, had also expressed an interest in the securing the show.
In the UK, the second series of the drama is due to start shooting within the next few months.
The show, based on an online diary written under the pseudonym Belle de Jour, attracted almost two million viewers on its debut last September.
Belle, who wrote about her life as an upmarket prostitute, has remained anonymous since first publishing her diaries in 2003.
It should be noted that this is not a spinoff from Billie Piper's previous BBC series, Doctor Who.

Penne alla Vodka is penne in a sauce made with crushed tomatoes, garlic, heavy cream and vodka. Yes, it can have meat added, like sausage. The vodka helps disolve the various flavors in the tomato and incorporate them into the rest of the sauce. The heavy cream... well, it tastes good.

I shed the coat between Panera and B&N and traded the sweater for a denim shirt when I got home. It's weirdly warm here in SW Ohio today - upper 60's - and I opened the sunroof on my car as I was driving home.
-
DR Jeanne - thanks for commenting on my photo last night! Also, my bookstore visit today reminded me of another author - Martha Grimes. And did you know that Laurie King has a new release, titled Touchstone?
-
DR Ben - sorry to hear about your computer.

Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And, well, I got up around 9:00 when the door buzzer buzzed - ah, a package from The Good Cook - Guess I forgot to select "Do Not Send" for this month's featured selection. Then I crawled back into bed for a bit, listed to the radio... next thing I knew, the clock said it was 12:50pm. Oops. ???
-
Hi everyone.
I slept really late today!
I haven't had time yet to go back over the posts I missed - but I just wanted to wish everyone a good, productive, healthy and enjoyable day.
-
After lunch I toddled over (do people still toddle, besides me that is?) over to Academy and found two discs of interest:
Martin & Blane sing Martin and Blane. It's album recorded in 1956 and it was released by DRG in 1994. I have a lot of the "First Name Composer" Sings "Last Name Composer" (Sammy Sings Fain, Cole Sings Porter, etc.) but I didn't know about this one. I'm looking forward to hearing it.
I also found an Archeophone release that should interest Anthony. Archephone specializes in older music and recordings. They have a wonderful series of recordings beginning in 1890 (a two-volume set) and going through various early years (1905, 1915, 1920, etc) with compilations of of popular songs from the specific year. Some of the recordings are speaking pieces as well. The CD I found is a 2-disc release of Nora Bayes and Jack Norworth. 51 Songs on 2 CDs (from the liner notes). Ant has some 78s by Nora Bayes and he has other CDs (which he put together himself) which include Nora Bayes performances. Since we won't have a computer for a couple of weeks we can keep ourselves busy listening to old stuff!
-
Thanks Ginny. I'm just glad we are not freaking about it. There is nothing we can do. It's a new world (a Fiddler on the Roof reference). Electronics. You love 'em and hate 'em.

Oh...
Hi...

Nora and Jack - weren't they played by Dennis Morgan and Ann Sheridan...in SHINE ON HARVEST MOON?
I loved the musical numbers in that movie!

Here's an interesting recipe I stumbled across a few days ago: Ravioli di Pesce con Pomodorini (Fish Ravioli with Oven-Roasted Cherry Tomato Sauce)
For the sauce: put 8 to 10 oz cherry tomatoes in a single layer in a roasting pan, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Roast the tomatoes in a 350 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes. Remove and set aside (can be done in advance).
Over medium-high heat, warm 1 T olive oil in a saute pan, add 2 chopped cloves garlic and cook until golden, then add a cup of fish stock and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and continue until stock is slightly reduced. Add the roasted tomatoes, stirring over medium heat until the sauce begins to thicken (about 5 minutes). Correct seasoning, and set aside.
For the filling: Warm 2 T olive oil in a frying pan, then add 1 chopped leek (white part only) and saute until translucent, 3 to 5 minutes. Add 3/4 lbs fish fillets (cod, scrod, red mullet, rockfish, or lobster meat, cut into 1 inch pieces), reduce heat to medium and cook for 5 to 10 minutes until fish is opaque throughout, stirring frequently. (Add a little water to the pan if the fish begins to stick, but the pan should be dry when finished.) Transfer the fish and leek to a food processor and pulse until it is coarsely chopped - not a paste! Turn out onto a plate and let cool completely.
To assemble the ravioli: Either use your favorite pasta dough (rolled at the narrowest setting) or won-ton wrappers. Using either a 2 1/2 or 3 inch cookie cutter or a water glass, cut out at least 28 rounds to make 4 servings. Place 1 t fish filling in the center of each round. Brush the edges of the round with a lightly beaten egg yolk, fold the disc in half to form a half-moon, and press the edges to seal. Repeat until all the fish has been used, and set the raviouli aside on floured kitchen towels or trays.
At long last: Return the sauce to a low heat. Bring a large pot of at least 4 qt water and 1 T salt to a rapid boil, add the ravioli and stir briefly. After 1 to 2 minutes, when the ravioli come to the surface, use a slotted spoon to transfer them to the sauce. Reserve the pasta water. Gently turn the ravioli in the sauce to coat, adding a tablespoon of the water at a time if the sauce seems too dry. Transfer the ravioli to a warmed platter or to individual plates, spooning any additional sauce on top, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and serve.
(No, I haven't tried this yet, but it sure does sound good, and der B has been asking to get more fish in his diet. My hunch is that not all the ravioli or sauce has to be used at once, and that it might freeze well. Freeze the ravioli on a tray first, then transfer to a plastic bag.)

Whatever the frell that means.
-
While and B/N, don't forget the latest issue of CLASSIC IMAGES and didn't DR CP say he would be in the new issue of AMERICAN THEATRE?

In other news...
I was planning on heading back to the gym today, but since the weather has taken a nice unseasonably warm turn, I believe I may head to Central Park this afternoon for my first visit to the Reservoir in 2008.
-
It is raining.
-
Dr Ben - Sorry to hear about your computer woes, but it's good to know that you and Ant have other ways to occupy your time together. -Does he wash his own oatmeal bowl too? ;)
-
Bonnie and Buster look lovely today in warm golden tones. Mikey is wearing classic black, and Fletcher is tres chic in a pattern of black and white.
-
The new shipment from Jessica's Biscuit will include Carlo Middione's Traditional Pasta as the free book. Sadly, it didn't arrive today. It would have been timely.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Whatever the three fresh pasta specials are on Becco's (http://becconyc.com/index2.htm) "Sinfonia di Pasta" special. :) For $21.95 ($16.95 at lunch) you get a choice of a Caesar Salad or a plate of their Antipasto Misto, and then unlimited servings of the three pastas of the day. They make a Pumpkin Ravioli in Sage Butter Sauce that makes me swoon. And sometimes they'll even feature a black-truffle topped pasta in the bunch too. Now that's a deal!
Otherwise...
Penne (regular or rigate) with sausage, broccoli rabe, red chili flake and parmesan.
Orechiette with grilled chicken, broccoli, pine nuts in a white wine-lemon sauce.
Spaghetti a la chitarra with a fresh tomato sauce, garlic and basil.
Gnocchi a la Romana - cut into discs, covered in nutmeg-flecked bechamel, then baked in the oven until bubbly and brown on top.
Drunken Noodles - The Thai "hangover" cure.
-
As for the present attire report... White socks, gray underwear, black workout shorts (cotton jersey), red Old Navy t-shirt.
-
Given Jose's present attire, and his plans to visit the Resevoir later, I can easliy hear him introduce himself:
"Oh, please, sir, I never expected it to be so chilly here in New York City. Could you help me warm up again?"
;D
-
... and didn't DR CP say he would be in the new issue of AMERICAN THEATRE?
The current issue of American Theatre's "Production Notebook" covers Hamlet at the Actors Guild of Lexington. Alas, that column is not available on their online (http://tcg.org/publications/at/jan08/toc.cfm) edition.
-

;D
Well... It's currently 60 degrees in the Central Park. It's not that "chilly". ;)

Later!
I feel your pain!! The same thing happened to me about four years ago but I lost everything. :P
-
TV REMINDER:
The return of MEDIUM tonight with Anjelica Huston beginning a six-episode story arc as a P.I. who hires Allison to assist her with cases.
I am SO excited about one of my favorite shows returning to the air.
I set my DVR to record this, but I plan to watch it at the same time. :D I set my DVR just in case my sister needed me to come over for something, but I don't think I'll need to tonight.
-
TOD - I used to make something we called Lasagna Roll-ups - cooked noodles spread with a ricotta/parmesan/spinach mixture, rolled up, topped with some kind of sauce, and baked. Lately, I've seen Olive Garden ads on TV, promoting something very similar-looking as their current special. Maybe I'll have to find that recipe in my file...
-
That was a very nifty family photo yesterday, DR Ginny! How fun! My mom loves to get generational photos, but I don't recall ever doing a "by decades" photo. I will have to suggest that one!
-
Indeed this is my late day at work, so I get to lounge around in the morning...I like that!
Just took Bosco for a walk and had a nice chat with my neighbor.
-
Updated clothing check:
Brown shoes, with black sole. Khaki pants. and this shirt which I just got the other day (thanks Ebay!)
-
And it is time for me to head off.
-
Thanks, DR MBarnum! I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better.
-
Bonnie and Buster look lovely today in warm golden tones. Mikey is wearing classic black, and Fletcher is tres chic in a pattern of black and white.
Who do you think you are, Jeanne Cagney? ;D
-
Nifty shirt!
-
OK... I guess I should do something with and/or for myself before the day totally gets away from me. Thankfully, my work schedule starts to pick up gradually over the next couple of weeks - well, starting tomorrow - so, I'm hoping that will all help get me out of my "lazy vacation" phase. -Not that I'm complaining about being able to be lazy right now, but work is nice, and the money helps too. ;)
-
I don't recall ever doing a "by decades" photo. I will have to suggest that one!
Which decades will you and your boyfriends be covering? ;)
-
I spent the morning doing some fixing and cutting a couple of things, and then I finished the chapter I was on, and began a new chapter. I've done about three pages, and will stop at page fifty, which is one more page. Then I'll print them out and Xerox a set for muse Margaret.
-
T0D: Tortellini with ham and peas and an Alfredo-type sauce. That or my late grandmother's spaghetti.
The old man is still snoring.
-
When my friend Jeff dropped by yesterday, he brought me a bag of Hershey's chocolate cherry kisses. I had never had these before, and I must say they are very addictive. Damn him! :)
-
Indeed this is my late day at work, so I get to lounge around in the morning...I like that!
Just took Bosco for a walk and had a nice chat with my neighbor.
Is this the neighbor whose wife insists on a 10-foot distance between you? How does she feel being married to a man who's either deaf and blind or mentally damaged?
-
While I ate pizza for lunch, I watched a couple of BONES episodes. One was the one where Booth got captured by a West Virginia gangster and beaten senseless. It took Temperence and her father (Ryan O'Neal returning as father Max) to find and save him.
-
When my friend Jeff dropped by yesterday, he brought me a bag of Hershey's chocolate cherry kisses. I had never had these before, and I must say they are very addictive. Damn him! :)
I introduced my wonderful sister-in-law JoAnn, who loves cherry cordials, to them in November. She was in heaven.

Now that we're to the 13th day of Christmas, I've been allowed to put decorations away (actually, I started on the evening of the 12th day, but don't tell...). Took advantage of the warm weather and got the lighted garlands and bows off the front porch rail. Richard and I just "switched the dishes," putting all the Christmas pieces in the cupboard above the refrigerator and replacing them with the dishes we use the other 46 weeks of the year. Tonight, when I want to be in the family room watching the OSU/LSU (Go
Blue Bucks!) national championship game, I'll dismantle the mantle.
-
The other episode was directed by star Emily Deschnel's father Caleb (more reknowned as a cinematographer), and since they were on the commentary track, I listened to it this time instead of watching the episode. Fun stuff.
-
Then I began watching SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH. I got through five episodes (or was it six)? None of them very funny, of course, though I do love Salem the cat and his sarcasm which is sort of sub-Paul Lynde-ish.
-
After lunch I toddled over (do people still toddle, besides me that is?) over to Academy and found two discs of interest:

I like those CDs, too. I just don't have too many of them. Anyway, I recently purchased (but have not yet received) the P.S. Classics title, Jonathan Sings Larson (http://www.amazon.com/Jonathan-Sings-Larson/dp/B000WDTO3O/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1199740050&sr=1-1). It's a CD/DVD combo. It sounds like it'll be a great CD.
-
The show didn't usually have guest stars, but the two reasonably well known faces to guest on the show in the episodes I have watched thus far are Donald Faison (now one of the stars of SCRUBS) and Dom DeLuise.
-
Updated clothing check:

Nice shirt! :D

Of course, DR td, er . . . . Martin Mull is a recurring actor on the show this season as the high school principal who always gives Sabrina trouble.
-
In the "I didn't see this coming" department, MSNBC (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22465593/) is reporting that "Heroes'" Peter Petrelli and Claire Bennett (Save the Cheerleader, Save the World) are now a real-life item!
-
The other episode was directed by star Emily Deschnel's father Caleb (more reknowned as a cinematographer), and since they were on the commentary track, I listened to it this time instead of watching the episode. Fun stuff.
Caleb's wife is actress Mary Jo Deschanel, and they also have daughter Zooey who starred in th Sci-Fi mini-series "Tin Man" last month.
-
Lunch was fun. The entire staff, excepting my boss, when to our local eatery "Oasis" and partook of specials. Three had the grilled salmon, another had chicken dijon, and I had the chicken Caesar salad.
Scrumptious, all of it.
-
I checked in with the courts prior to lunch. I am excused for the next year.
Apparently, they had zero jury calls for today (and the courts have gone to a One-Day, One-Trial form of dealing with jurors).
-
Tonight, when I want to be in the family room watching the OSU/LSU (Go Blue Bucks!) national championship game, I'll dismantle the mantle.
When LSU trounces those Bucks, I'll bet that mantle gets truly dismantled!
:D
-

No-o-o-o, DR Ron, I'm only rooting for the Bucks tonight because I know how much it means to some co-workers. This true-Blue Michigan Wolverine gets pretty sick of having the Scarlet & Grey crammed down our throats.

I've been sour on OSU since Woody Hayes struck that Clemson player in the Gator Bowl back in 1978. That was the end-of-the-line for Hayes, too, as he was put out to pasture. Clemson won the national championship (http://clemsontigers.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/110501aag.html) a few years later, though, so that was sweet.
It wouldn't matter who the opposing team is, though...I just want to see LSU win. I think Louisiana needs it more than any other state/school.
-
For those who don't remember it, or who never heard about it, here is a YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEVJyf0ft3I) clip of the play...Clemson intercepts an OSU pass....the Clemson player runs it back and few yards and then goes out in the middle of the OSU sideline. Hayes, in the dark ballcap, delivers a chop to the player's neck and then bedlam breaks out.
Hayes was fired the next day!
-
Where'd everybody go?
-
Is everyone on the road?
-
Is this the east coast end-of-the-workday lull?
-
Blue jeans, pink sweater, and a dust mask.

Ah, yes, I remember it well! Richard and I were dating then and had just returned to my apartment from a movie. We turned on the TV just in time to see the whole thing live.

TOD: I love pasta.

Where'd everybody go?
They're all looking at that clip on YouTube that you posted. And watching it over and over and over and over again and again and again and again and again...
-
Blue jeans, pink sweater, and a dust mask.
But what color is the dust mask?
-
Shocking moment in collegiate sports - that doesn't seem so shocking anymore. But I guess it just goes to show that one moment can destroy a lifetime of work and achievement.
-
Gloomy day, but the temperature is so nice.
DR GINNY - deadlines are just suggestions.
-
But what color is the dust mask?
Dust.

Good Afternoon!
Well... I have yet to make it out of the apartment... :-\
However, during the interim, I've followed up on two potential work leads, booked two more audition sessions, bought my plane tickets to and from Memphis for the upcoming UPTAs (http://upta.org/), taken a shower, gotten dressed, etc., etc., etc.
And now I'm checking to see if there's anything I'd like to see tonight. I really am interested in seeing Teri Ralston at The Metropolitan Room tonight, but for some unexplained reason, I'm in the mood for some opera tonight. Maybe it's all the talk of pasta today here on HHW. -Alas, tonight's presentation at The Met is Wagner's "Die Walküre", and that's 5 hours of Wagner. -Which for some, is five hours too many. However, the curtain time is 6:30 (ends at 11:30), and I may see if anyone is giving an extra ticket on the Plaza. And if not, I still have plenty of time to head elsewhere. -It's also Splash's first Musical Mondays of 2008 too, so... ;)
-
Well. I need to go clean the dining room. I didn't get to it this morning. Then, I'll be back with Sabrina and Harvey (the adorable Nate Richert).
-
Oops (Spoo)!

And on that rhetorical question...

Years before he punched the Clemson player, I saw Woody Hayes (in person, Michigan Stadium, 1971) crack a yard marker over his knee.

There's a good 90-minute opera in those 5 hours!
I'm thinking about dinner. And thinking.
-
I've also been laughing over YouTube clips of Whitest Kids U' Know, very funny and very rude.
-
And where in tarnation is Cillaliz? With Jane at a shower? How long does it take to shower?
-
I've done about five pages and am probably through writing for the day, other than maybe going back and futzing with what I've done. Then, when I'm done futzing, I'll print it out.
-
Welcome eleven GUESTS.
-
Why am I the only one posting?
-
I had halibut and cheesy potatoes for my meal o' the day.
-
Will we never get to page ten?

I'm sure MBarnum likes the name of our newest haineshisway user - check the home page quickly before it goes away.

I'm quite logey right now.

I am not planning on serving der Brucer pasta for dinner tonight.
Since my shift doesn't end until ten o'clock, I've planned a simple plate of steak, tater tots, and zucchini.
Splendid; my favorite pasta is potato!

der Brucer shouldn't be having these late-night dinners at this point in his life.
Late night? Gentlemen rarely dine before nine.

For our dinner, I prepared chicken and rice with green beans almondine on the side. There's enough left over for our dinner tomorrow, too.

It looks like the rains may be done. And about how awful they were - not. They were steady on Saturday, but only a couple of times was it coming down hard. What is forgotten is that LA and especially the Valley cannot handle even a day of rain of any substantial kind without everything getting messed up. But to call it torrential or a horrible storm - uh, no.
Uh..try worst storm in three years!
Remember, there's more to "LA" than that teensy City at Studio, some of your LA neighbors got over a foot of rain:
LA TIMES (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-weather8jan08,0,6928424.story?coll=la-home-center)
Parts of the Southland got more than a foot of rain.
Weekend storms that dumped more than a foot of rain on parts of the Southland, prompting warnings of floods and mudslides, were expected to taper off this afternoon….
The storm, which forecasters are calling the biggest to hit the region in three years, had dumped 12.7 inches of rain on Opids Camp in the mountains of the Angeles National Forest and 8.6 inches at the San Gabriel Dam as of 7 a.m. today, and about 2.2 inches on downtown Los Angeles as of midnight Sunday, according to Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
In Orange County, 5.5 inches of rain fell in Silverado Canyon and 3.5 inches in Brea, said Miguel Miller, a weather service forecaster in San Diego.

Is DR FJL really going to ration his remaining 9 or 10 posts from now until Thursday?
It's going to be L-O-N-G week, if so.
-
It's called restraint (not an HHW assignation reference)
-
I'll only post when I have something of value to say.
-
I got a wonderful package in the mail today.
I mailed my copy of DR PennyO's book to her. She inscribed and signed it and sent it back to me!
:)
-
Oooh, DR FJL...
NOW you're just teasing us!
[Love it! :) ]

Or else only when I have something of interest to say

I'll only post when I have something of value to say.
If every DR did likewise, it would be slim pickin's around here! ;)
-
For example, I got my statement of interest from the bank
-
That's something of interest, right?
-
Or else I can just say I'd like to hit 10,000 on page 10. That would satisfy any principles of OCD!
-
That's something of interest, right?
Just adding your two cents, right?
-
Are we at page 10 yet?
-
I will not marry, i mean hit post 10000, until we reach page 10
(almost a politically incorrect Ragtime reference)
-
Go, Fred, Go! :D
-
If you hit 10000 and George isn't there to memorialize it, did you ever actually hit 10000?
-
Yes...as long as you don't post any further until DR George or one of our other technically savvy DRs logs in.
-
Ah, problem solved. DR dB is here!

Here is the recipe for Green Tuna Noodle Casserole
I have also added mushrooms before)
Two questions
1.) No liquid except the cheese?
2.) Can I skip the pimientos?

Here's my clone posting on our MacBook from the family room. When he came home for Christmas break, DS Rob strung an internet cable through the garage so that we can now be online while watching TV and enjoying the Christmas tree and fireplace.
Yes, the tree is still up, but I got everything else put away today, except the angel collection on the piano. Sometimes that stays out all year.

And speaking of Irving Berlin's White Christmas... ;-)
Here are two videos that Jeffrey Denman and the companies of White Christmas put together the past two years. The first one is based on the "Lazy Tuesday - Chronicles of Narnia" that Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell put together for "Saturday Night Live". The second one is based on the Eminem "classic" "The Real Slim Shady".
It does "help" to watch them in order. :)
DR MBarnum - Brian D'Arcy James makes an appearance in the second one.
bk, DR elmore, etc. - There are a few Brain faces in the second one too. :)

Having watched a lot of college football on TV in the past 40 years, I must say the coverage on Fox impresses me very much. Even though I have trouble accepting the OSU band's claim as TBDBITL, it was nice to see them get some airtime. Now, will LSU get equal time?

Oh, I thought this chat was with the husband. I figured he was telling Mike all about his 75th high school reunion.

DR Jeanne - thanks for commenting on my photo last night! Also, my bookstore visit today reminded me of another author - Martha Grimes. And did you know that Laurie King has a new release, titled Touchstone?
thanks, Ginny. I read lots of Martha Grimes some years ago. Just reread one of hers last week. I quite enjoyed her books the first time through, less so now. (I like the Richard Jury character.) It was interesting seeing how my tastes have changed.
Yes, I've heard of the new Laurie King. Amazon's suggestive selling is usually pretty good, actually.
One of my Canadian friends phoned the other day and said how much she's enjoying the Maisie Dobbs book I sent her. She commented that she couldn't find any errors and was Winspear British. Yes, I believe she was raised in the UK, although now she's living in California (where else?). My friend was born in London and immigrated to Canada when she was 5 or 6 and likes to poke holes in the American authors who write as Brits. (sigh.)
Have you read Sarah Caudwell? A true Brit who wrote four very charming comedy-of-manners mysteries.
Thanks again for the suggestions.
-
Congratulations to those who reached wherever!
I've just had my first listen (not closely) to Busker Alley. Very enjoyable.

You're welcome, DR Jeanne. I haven't read Sarah Caudwell. I just discovered Susan Howatch's 6-book series on the Church of England. Seeing as I'm married to an aspiring Anglican clergyman, I'm well into the first one, Glittering Images.

DR JEANNE did you know that Annette Funicello had a white fur stole exactly like the one that you wore when you accompanied Mr BK to the prom?
No, I didn't. Gosh, is my old fur stole famous? Miss Annette must have gotten the idea from me, doncha think?
BTW, Mr BK accompanied ME to the prom! ;)
-
Ok, so I'm way behind, but has anyone discussed that the Golden Globes are cancelled

Oh! Forgot to mention. I did indeed visit the bookstore today and I purchased both of the Val McDermid books they had in stock. I was very impressed with WIRE IN THE BLOOD, so I'm looking forward to these books. Of course, this is just the start of my book buying.

I bet my stole would be worth a lot more money if Annette wore it. (It's worth zip right now.)

Here is Miss Annette wearing DR JEANNE's white stole. Don't know who that lucky boy is - but it isn't MR BK.

Yes, it's good night for me, too.
I'll look forward to the photo, JRand.

I think I must have set the land speed record for reading six pages of posts here.

And tonight, I watched about 8 episodes of SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH. I'm already on disc 3 (out of 4), so I should be able to finish the set tomorrow. I haven't looked ahead to see if there are any special features with the set, but I kind of doubt it. It looks like a barebones release.
-
Here is Miss Annette wearing DR JEANNE's white stole. Don't know who that lucky boy is - but it isn't MR BK.
Mr BK was far cuter.
-
It DOES look like mine, doesn't it?
That's what I said! ;D
-
Mr BK was far cuter.
And probably didn't wave a ciggie around.... :P
-
Two of the episodes stood out, not because they were particularly good but they were unusual. In the Halloween episode, members of ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN were the guest stars, and I hadn't seen many of those performers in years. Among them were Gary Owens, Ruth Buzzi, Alan Sues, Dave Madden, and, of course, Joanne Worley.
-
Good night for real.

Thunderstorms predicted tonight.....if I hear thunder, I let Miss Blue Moon come in.....she is afraid of storms.
-
And probably didn't wave a ciggie around.... :P
No.

DR MATTH - those people could make me laugh and laugh.
Alan Sues and Joanne Worley just had to stand around and react, and I would be on the floor.
-
No.
LOL....off to watch THE telly. 8)

Wonder which characters MR BK is revisiting in the NEW book?
-
Page Seventeen Viktor Krumm Dance!!!
-
DR MATTH - those people could make me laugh and laugh.
Alan Sues and Joanne Worley just had to stand around and react, and I would be on the floor.
Definitely the best episode in the set thus far. Each episode contains one or two really funny lines, usually by Salem the cat but occasionally by others. The stories are usually just so silly, and the premise is always the same, Sabrina in her enthusiasm using magic she hasn't mastered and things going awry.
-
The other SABRINA episode that was different was the Valentine's Day episode that featured N'Sync as guest stars. My goodness, they WERE young once upon a time!
-
How wonderful to have MEDIUM back! Another somber case, of course, as so many of them are, but still filled with confusing clues that come together by the end of the episode.
-
Got some writing to do so let me get started on that.
Good night!
-
If her mink fur was stole, maybe it was Annette who stole it.
-
MEDIUM spoiler about the SOUND OF MUSIC subplot
Would that girl with the better voice have been cast as Maria in SOUND OF MUSIC based on that (very lengthy) somber audition? Maria in WEST SIDE STORY maybe, but I can't imagine what the teacher would have been thinking in real-life at that audition, except maybe to cast the dark-haired girl as the Baroness.
-
I'm watching a motion picture on DVD, but am having trouble concentrating. Therefore, I am taking a break.
-
MEDIUM spoiler about the SOUND OF MUSIC subplot
DR FJL - I wondered about that too. -Especially since the song that the daughter was practicing was not the one for the character she was trying out for.

Well, I believe I'm going to Wussburger out of here now and get some reading done before heading to bed.
Goodnight.

Ten Hour Day vibes for DR DAKOTACELT.
Thanks JRand, I have three more days to go!

DR Jane has asked me to let you all know that she and DH Keith are visiting with DS Craig. She has apparently had technical difficulties posting, and may not be able to post for a few more days.
But all are fine, and she says "hello" to you all! :)
Thanks for the update singdaw....

Well, we've received the first Kritzerland order of the year (other than stores) - one copy of the Kevin Spirtas CD - $4.98. Doesn't anyone have any Christmas money to spend?

Two questions
1.) No liquid except the cheese?
2.) Can I skip the pimientos?

Woah, hold the phone. My computer calendar's a whole week ahead.
(My brother's bday is yet to come.) Strange thing is, http://www.todaysdate.com/ is off too. No wonder I'm confused!

At least I didn't miss my brother's birthday.

About "Medium" and the Sound of Music sub-plot...SPOILER!!
I was thinking that the teacher would've/should've known that the dark-haired girl could sing well and even though she might've given a bad audition (I missed that part...did she actually audition??), she would've been the better/more experienced actress for the role. I also thought that Ariel the daughter should've/would've been cast as Liesl. Just my 2¢.

I just fixed my comp clock. That was too weird. Oh well, either way, it's still bed time.

But not before we get this thread to page 19.
