Well, you've read the notes, the notes kept you abreast and now it is time for you to post until the beastly cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PIGSNEY!
-
I was going to post this at the end of last night, but the day got locked before I could post it, so here it is:
I'm watching "Pushing Daisies" right now [and I actually still am] . So far, it's cute...and the lead guy is really cute. ;)
SORT OF SPOILER (BUT NOT REALLY)
When they showed Ned and Chuck as kids, I thought that Kristin Chenoweth was going to be Chuck all grown up, but she wasn't. Kristin plays someone else. :)

And the word of the day is: PIGSNEY!

I'm Amtrakking (sp?) to Baltimore for my cousin's engagment party, then attending the engagement party, then Amtrak shall whisk me back to NYC in time for tonight's 9 p.m. Last Starfighter performance.

Hi Ben and Tom.
-
DR DrawString - it was a good visit with my Dad. I went with my nephew and his wife in the morning and then with my cousin and his wife in the afternoon. Despite some confusion at times and definite short term memory problems, my Father was able to "connect" to many names and events mentioned. In the morning he was at first unable to remember the names of his siblings. In the afternoon he was giving their other given names and reciting dirty ditties! (He was a ventriloquist and entertainer in his younger years). He is still on no medication and able to walk well and sit himself down in, and get up from, a normal lounge chair.
He does have a "Walker frame" he is supposed to use but he usually forgets! He is now the oldest resident in his hostel. At 101 he is is quite remarkable and quick witted!

From Larry yesterday:
It has a 20 inch screen and the following:
* 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1GB memory
* 320GB hard drive1
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory
It means you have a fast computer with a very nice amount of memory (2 gigs would have been even better but that comes at a price), a nice, large hard drive for all those nude pictures musical scores you might download ;), a drive that will let you burn CDs and DVDs (including double layer discs) and a graphics card with lots of memory so you should be able to view things quickly and nicely.
-
Hi Fred. Appropriate Starfighting wishes.
-
Hi, Fred. See you tonight. I was worried for a minute that you might not be there since you'll be in Baltimore all day but you qualified that in a later post.
-
And now I must get back to work.
-
BTW - Jeff's Rose was in bloom last October in the Portland Rose Garden. I assume it is in bloom again now.

P.S. I didn't see Ginny at all yesterday (so I assume she didn't see me)

DR Ben, I did pay extra for that so I now have 2 GB of memory.
Good morning, all! I'm feeling lazy and aimless this morning. I know that at 5:00 pm I'm seeing the NYMF production of SHERLOCK HOLMES (THE EARLY YEARS) and around 10:00 pm I have a date for margaritas with the lovely Miss Erin Webley, who leaves Monday for the ALabama Shakespeare production of PETER PAN choreographed by the talented Adam Cates.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Greetings To Our DR JMK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/move]
I was just given a fascinating series of documents from the estate of Anne Caldwell, co-librettist for THE LADY OF THE SLIPPER for Victor Herbert and librettist for THE NIGHT BOAT and THE STEPPING STONES for Jerome Kern; she later went to Hollywood and wrote the screenplay for DIXIANA for Wheeler and Woolsey. What I was given was a copy of several drafts of a film treatment for BABES IN TOYLAND, intended for Dorothy Lee, an actor I don't know - Tom E. Marshall - and Wheeler & Woolsey, dated July 3, 1930. It's very dark and spooky, and not at all like the Hal Roach version for Laurel & Hardy.

Happy day to JMK.
I loved "Tall Story." Yes, it's weak and predicatable, but Tony Perkins was soooo cute in it. I realized that even at the age of of 5 or 6. I liked Jane Fonda, and Ray Walston played Ray Walston. I also thought college life would be nice like that.
-
Torchwood tonight. Of course, it's out of sequence with the Doctor Who finale of last night, since the last three eps of the season for Doctor Who take place immediately after the first season finale of Torchwood, which is only, what, five episodes in, in it's broadcast on BBC America.
-
On to Baltimore. Have a good day and evening, everyone.
-
Time to start getting ready for work.
And, afterwards, der B and I will (hopefully) go downtown to take some pictures. This is the annual Greyhound Weekend, officially in Dewey Beach (the next town southward) but there's plenty of spillover.

Good morning all!
I have been awake since 5AM and turned on the TV. I saw a version of BABES IN TOYLAND with a teenage Drew Barrymore and Richard Mulligan. Oooh...the production value was terrible. This must have been a made-for-TV movie?
Perhaps DR Elmore can shed some light on it? I couldn't watch it for more than 5 minutes...

A very happy happy birthday to our very own JMK!!!

Good morning!
Moderately cool but very muggy this morning. The humidity is HEAVY in the air, and it makes everything feel kind of soggy. Ugh!

Late this morning and during the early afternoon, I want to catch up on some of the TV shows that are on my DVR. Particularly eager to see THE OFFICE and MOONLIGHT. They will come first.
Tonight I'll either start on MEDIUM (Season 3) or ROCKY & BULLWINKLE (Volume 2) which takes three adventures from the show's five seasons on the air and shows the adventures in order without the other filler and cartoons from the shows. Of course, fans of the shows like I am LOVED those other cartoons as much as the R&B adventures, but these R&B sets feature only the serialized adventures in order without everything else that made the show so great.

I can indeed. The romantic lead was played by a young Keanu Reeves, the new score was by Leslie Bricusse and only two Victor Herbert numbers were used: Toyland and The March of the Toys.
-
BK, you aren't the only one who has lamented the weak state of the Esther Williams films on DVD. Though some look better than others in this set, one in particular - EASY TO WED - is easily the worst Technicolor transfer I've seen since PIN-UP GIRL (from Fox), and I said so WEEKS ago.

I saw this at the Metropolitan Opera Shop yesterday but it's not being officially released until next week; this is the December 1955 broadcast of Menotti's opera AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS. I gather that for years it was believed that all early kinescopes had been lost, but the Museum of Broadcasting discovered a kinescope of the first production of 1951, which I vaguely remember seeing. I remember the broadcast of 1954 very well because I had just been released from a week in hospital when I caught viral pneumonia, and I spent Christmas holiday on the sofa in our living room. The one thing I wanted to see that year was broadcast while I was hospitalized: BABES IN TOYLAND with Wally Cox, Dave Garroway and Barbara Cook.

I've always loved music, but there are times when I really prefer silence. I know then that I'm feeling pretty stressed.
That said, when I'm feeling down listening to Bach or Beethoven will lift my spirits and restore my faith (some of it, anyway) in the human race. What glorious things humans can achieve!! And then, mesmerized, I go on with my life.

The photo of Mr. Santiago certainly woke me up ;D

I had plans of working in the yard today, but since it seems to be raining (well, sprinkling) I guess I can just sit on the couch and watch old Universal monster movies :D
I also need to go through all 156 episodes of THE MILLIONAIRE and find the ones that some of my interviewees appeared in so that I can send them copies.

BK, did you know that you are mentioned in the latest issue of G-FAN? There is an interview with Adryan Russ, who of course sang the song SAVE THE EARTH for the AIP release of GODZILLA VS THE SMOG MONSTER. It is a nice write-up and it mentions you and also the CD you guys did together.

Oh, and BK, stop by the table of Tony Russel while you are at the Ray Courts show and tell him hello from me! We had planned on getting together this weekend in Burbank but because I had no vacation left I, as you can see, was unable to attend. Tony is one swell guy!

Begin Lesson:
Think of -
writ
write
writing
written
and you have examples of two general spelling aids:
1. A final "e" lengthens the preceding vowel (makes it say its name).
2. Doubling the consonant shortens the preceding vowel.
So, Amtraking would rhyme with "raking", as in leaves, and Amtrakking would rhyme with "trekking" as thru the woods.
HOWEVER: the rules generally only apply to vowels immediately preceding the final consonant - and a second intervening consonant causes trouble: Track/tracking, bask/basking. So, if Amtrak were spelled Amtrack we would have Amtracking.
The moral - avoid using gerunds!

A big west coast HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DR JMK
TOD - The only good thing to come out of Bernard J. Taylor's pen is the collection of songs from the CD "Child of the Earth" with all selections sung by Claire Moore (my all time favorite vocalist) That CD became very special as back in 1995 I had my first real date that ended with a kiss. (the first with a male, anyway). I came home and put this CD on, and for some reason, I had the CD on repeat all, so all night, I had this CD going and I don't believe I ever reach a state of deep sleep. Incidently, the date was the first AND last with this person (only because he was a flake) but the CD remains my favorite to zone out to.
Also, I tend to listen to the Carpenters when I'm really down or depressed.

On a sad note, I just found out via the LA times obituary section that Richard Dubois, Mr. America 1954 and Mr. USA 1957, passed away this week :-\
(http://www.meekermuseum.com/dubois1.jpg)
I never had an opportunity to meet him, but he had worked with a lot of my interviewees when they were all involved in Mae West's night club act, and of course they all worked out together on Muscle Beach back in the 40s and 50s, so I had heard a lot about him.

Hi, y'all. Thank you so much for the wishes--it's such a wonderful way to wake up.
Today is literally my first "day off" (not really--more about that in a mo) in probably 3 weeks. We managed to kind of sleep in until 9-ish, which is unheard of around here.
The more part is that I am playing the dedication of a Habitat for Humanity complex here this afternoon. It was just too much of a mitzvah to pass up, even though it's out in the boondocks.
Tomovoz: my rose hasn't bloomed for so long, I can't remember when. ;D
JR: I always wondered what FF was typing in that picture. ;D
DR Slowthaw (isn't that right?): wow, that takes me back to my misspent youth. :o
MBarnum (and Jose): the horror (HORROR) of our remodeling project is that Betsy is sans stove, so no cake at least until next week. HORROR.
However, I did partake of the frigging biggest slice of pizza I've ever had last night at a gig, whose cheese content alone probably pushed my cholesterol into 4 digits.
-
Speaking of mutant pizza slices, I assure you the WOD is not my nickname.
-
Hi Jeff. Thanks for the caulking tips, it worked. It didn't dry completely clear, but good enough. :D
Are you still sane over there with the remodeling? We haven't heard any screaming. I hope that means things are running fairly smoothly.
-
I keep seeing a "Page Cannot be Found" at the top of every page of the HHW Site.
Is it my browser blocking something, or is something wonky on the HHW end?
-
I'm so tiiiiired, but must shortly be on my way to the Ray Courts show.
-
3D I haven't seen that today. I surprised it states "can't be found" yet here you are.
-
Bruce, hope the show is up to your expectations this time.
-
I need to go make a cheesecake. I'm really not in the mood.
-
3D I haven't seen that today. I surprised it states "can't be found" yet here you are.
There used to be Google Ads at the top of each page. *That's* what is showing up as Page cant' be found. :)
Perhaps Bruce has cancelled his account but not removed the code?
-
Jane, just got your email. Thanks. :)
We're (hopefully) in the home stretch of the remodeling. The cabinets are mostly in (just need doors), the walls are painted, finish electrical is mostly done. They're resanding the floors next week (the dogs need to live in the basement--oy), then they move the appliances in, hook everything up, and then do the countertops and we're done. Except for the final coat of whatever they put on the floors, which will happen week after next.

I see Google Ads (a Sixth Sense reference). Why don't you? (Cue spooky music).

I see Google Ads (a Sixth Sense reference). Why don't you? (Cue spooky music).
Weird.
I've got two computers. On this one, I've never seen the Google Ads, but I know they exist because on my laptop, I can see them. But now, on this computer, I still can't see them, but I do see the "This page cannot be found" box."
If you can't see that, but instead see the ads, well...then I must be in the Twilight Zone....

This is what I see:

Michigan Cop Takes Aim to Save Skunk With Head Stuck in Salad-Dressing Jar
CARROLLTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. —
These are the salad days for one lucky skunk.
Officer James Kellett said a skunk whose head was stuck in an empty salad dressing jar wandered into the police station's parking lot Thursday in Carrollton Township, near Saginaw and about 80 miles north of Detroit.
Kellett wanted to serve and protect the white-striped weasel, but wasn't interested in any resistance — spray or otherwise. So he grabbed a BB gun used in hunters' safety courses and shot at the jar from about 40 feet.
The shots cracked and shattered the jar, leaving a glass collar around the skunk's neck. With its head free, the skunk ran off.
"I didn't want to use deadly force, and it is a residential area," Kellett told The Saginaw News. "The way he was when he took off, he was able to eat, breathe and spray — and do anything else skunks like to do."
Kellett didn't get much in the way of gratitude, but he's grateful the skunk didn't spray. And the makers of T. Marzetti's salad dressing are sending the officer coupons good for free dressing as a reward.

Well, I didn't see Ginny but I did see the back of her head. The lunch for Ginny's conference was catered (nothing fancy, just sandwiches, pasta salads, etc.) and they told us on the 3rd floor that there was extra and to come on down for free food. I went down and gobbled and saw the group of Librarians in the main room listening raptly to the speaker. I kept sending Turn Around vibes to Ginny but she was listening too intently to the speaker.

That skunk story has an aroma....
If its head is stuck in the jar, surely it would have run out of oxygen and died long before it wandered into the parking lot.
But even if it played as told, there's still a skunk with a "collar" full of jagged glass that is going to do something to it as time goes by.
-
Is it supposed to block ads? The top of the page is a link to google ads!
der Brucer
Yes, I've got Norton Utilities, which blocks ads of certain kinds, such as banner ads. I can still see Google Ads if they're in the body of a website - as for example on my own site - but when they're at the top of a page, whatever code is used for that - renders them invisible to me.
Annoyingly, libraries have software that blocks google ads where-ever they appear, so that none of those poor schmucks can see the ads on my site, click on 'em, and make me millions of dollars...
Well...dozens of pennies, anyway...

All right! I'm 'fessing up!
Last week, for the first time since the second episode of its first season (two years ago), I watched an episode of "Numbers" ... and LOVED IT!
Rob Morrow, the execrable, has been subdued into a "regular" member of the cast rather than the "leading" member of the cast, it seems. I watched again last night, and it was gratifying to see that most of the cast got time equal to his, if not moreso.
And it was another really GOOD episode.
Live and learn.

Listening to the new Broadway recording of Grease starring the winners of "You're the One That We Want" or whatever. I wasn't giving much hope to the winners but was banking more on the supporting cast, all of which I've never heard of - has anyone??? Anyhow, I'm quite disapointed on the lack of energy, even when they try you can tell they are trying. And just how many times does this show need to be orchestrated?? Blech, I prefer the clunky original Broadway cast recording, which is how the show should be!!!
(steps of the soapbox and moves on)

Once the skunk got its head thru the jar opening, there would be lots of room for to enter around his furry neck.
I suspect the skunk can live to a ripe old age with a jagged glass coller (though necking with mama skunk could be problematical). Better to shot the glass than to shoot the skunk!

Happy Saturday! I've been cleaning today. I am still looking for eomething that does a good job on wood floors. I'm just usinge the Swiffer Wet for Wood Floors. It's not supposed to leave a residue, but it does...I asked my mother what she uses and she said "Bruce Floor Cleaner" I chuckled. Didn't I just see that here the other day?

Der Brucer, haven't seen them yet. I have seen the Romney ads where he says that Republicans have to stop acting like Democrats in spending and morality. I think it's time to get out my rubber dart gun again. It was very handy during the last election. Whenever someone I don't like says things I don't like I shoot them. Since I have an old fashioned TV it just sticks to the glass.

There could have been enough air in the jar for the skunk, and maybe the jar hadn't been on it's head too long.
I too am very concerned about the glass collar, which now likely has a jagged edge. The guy has been lucky so far, maybe it broke off without doing any harm.
Good shooting though, can't think of anything better he could have done.
-
I'm recording & am please dto know the show was good. I enjoyed the last few episodes from last season, if only Keith had stuck them out with me.
We differ on Rob Morrow though. What I don't like about the show is they rarely use him enough for me, and I could do with less of the brother.

Off to check on my cheesecake which is currently baking in the oven.

Happy birthday JMK!
You just look the same as when I (never) met you!
Happy day to you!

Last night I did the unthinkable. Oh, not that for heaven's sake! I stayed up until 11:00 p.m. so that I could watch my two favorite TV programs. Okay, the only two I watch regularly, plus the third program that is still growing on me.
I love GHOST WHISPERER and NUMBERS. Two great episodes last night. Also, I thought the second episode of MOONLIGHT was an improvement over the initial episode. I realize they had to set up the whole conceit for the show on the first episode, but I was bored. Last night's episode was great.
-
We haven't watched the second episode of MOONLIGHT. I hope we agree with you afterwards. I like the leads & do want to enjoy it.

The normal temperature for this time of year is 76 degrees. We should only get up to 56 degrees today. At least the sun is shinning. It could be worse I suppose, the record high is 95 degrees.

DR MBarnum, Jason Santiago just won Mr Romance 2007 for being the coverman for romance novels. Perhaps this may elevate your Dick & Jane reading material. although I doubt there's any literature in a romantic novel.
Who cares about the book, buy me the cover!

Oh, and BK, stop by the table of Tony Russel while you are at the Ray Courts show and tell him hello from me! We had planned on getting together this weekend in Burbank but because I had no vacation left I, as you can see, was unable to attend. Tony is one swell guy!
I can only assume, knowing Mr. Barnum, that the Tony Russel in question is in this photo.
-
See what you have to look forward to, a sharp mind at 101, not bad :)
For Tom, that would be an improvement.
-
That skunk story has an aroma....
If its head is stuck in the jar, surely it would have run out of oxygen and died long before it wandered into the parking lot.
But even if it played as told, there's still a skunk with a "collar" full of jagged glass that is going to do something to it as time goes by.
Actually no, the shape of their jaw would allow an opening for air below the jawline. The main problem would be condensation, causing the skunk the inability to know where it was going. However, I have seen several animals get their heads stuck in jars, fortunately, never a skunk.

And just how many times does this show need to be orchestrated?? Blech, I prefer the clunky original Broadway cast recording, which is how the show should be!!!
It's by Chris Jahnke, who did LEGALLY BLONDE. He's the new flavor of the month.

We differ on Rob Morrow though. What I don't like about the show is they rarely use him enough for me, and I could do with less of the brother.
Well, since David Krumholtz is the producer of the show, I wouldn't count on his part of the brother being reduced. Rob Morrow is not only the most uninterresting character, he is also the most uninteresting actor on the show.

In the back yard, one story beneath Woody's window, there is a weed growing. It is left over from last year. It is a very large weed. It now towers over the roof top! (How I miss Milky White!)

And now I'm heading out to SHERLOCK HOLMES (THE EARLY YEARS), my last NYMF commitment.
-
I didn't know David Krumholtz was the producer. Was he from the beginning? I guess that is why the scripts have the "brother" figuring out things with math that should have been easy for the smart FBI brother. If you like Rob as an actor or not, his character should not be dumbed down as it is at times.
-
You posed?

LOL.
Maybe if I didn't eat cheesecake I could pose, and be pleased with the results.

You mean people can shot their gun like that in the open over there?!
And it's lucky that he did not kill or injure the animal!
The end result is ok but, imho, that guy is pretty dumb!
I held a skunk once (In Florida, from the Disney "farm"... taking some critters to show them to schools... ) and he never moved or spread me or anything! That fellow was so shy; he kept hidding his head under my arm.
-
I can't find anything that indicates Krumholtz produces the show.
-
François, are you sure your skunk had not been de-skunked?
I think it is sweet you got to hold a skunk, they are so very cute. Echo was sprayed three times and the smell is rather horrendous & difficult to get rid of.
I don't know what I would have done. How do you get a glass jar off of a head, sometimes going in is easier than coming out? Remember, you only have moments to think about this. I just hope the guy knew he could do the shot and get the result he did.
I'm still worried about the poor thing with the glass collar.
-
Well, since David Krumholtz is the producer of the show,
He has no published production credits, yet (Tho I think I did see a screen credit last night). The Scotts will keep all the control, you can bet.

I have a question about canned laughter. My brother won't watch THE BIG BANG THEORY because it has canned laughter. The show is filmed before a live audience so why is it canned, & how can you find out for sure it is? I did some research & only found more complaints about the laugh track, even by people who otherwise found the show very funny.
Keith & I didn't notice. We watched the second episode and still couldn't tell. I do know, in the past, I have found "snorting" laughter annoying for shows filmed before a live audience. Inappropriate laughter was also annoying.

Saturday afternoon greetings! My conference is over, thank goodness (more later). Yesterday afternoon, it hit me just how sick I was and I could barely stay awake. Last night I just passed out on the couch and finally went to bed about 11. If today had been a regular work day, I'd have called in sick, but I went to the conference and stuck it out 'til the end.
DR Ben, if it was the after-lunch speaker, I was having great trouble staying awake as she was demo-teaching a class that I've taught myself many, many times! I'm glad they invited you to partake, though, because today's lunch was far superior to yesterday's.

Oh, I'm sure the skunk had been "altered" of course, even though the "trainer" yelled at me because I was letting the children pet the fellow! Well, I told her that she was the one to know and she'd better tell me things in a positive way!
Of course, skunks spray when they are frightened...
My friend Flower smells petunia though, but he's known for being a little... gay! ;) Ask Thumper!

Happiest of birthdays to DR JMK!

Funny DR Jose should mention Pietrasanta, beause that's where DH Richard and I are going for dinner tonight.
-
Oh, I did manage to regain consciousness last night long enough to share our slice of Monkey Cake with DH Richard. Yum! The cake was delicious, but the cream cheese icing was somewhat overpowering - we scraped a lot of it off.

I think the right thing to do would be to "shoot" the animal with some tranquilizer...
When the animal is asleep you can handle it any way you want and then it would not be wandereing now with a glass collar which might still be a threat to it!
Of course, doing so would have required to spend some money and time!

I watched three programs that were on the DVR.
I began with MOONLIGHT which had a superb second episode. Really had me on the edge of my seat and was really surprised with where they went with the story.
I have to say, MOONLIGHT and JOURNEYMAN rank for me as the best of the new series that I've seen two episodes of. (PUSHING DAISIES doesn't count since I've seen only one episode of it.) I also really liked CHUCK, but its second episode really seemed more a continuation of the first, so this week will tell the tale with that show and my reactions.
-
Even comedy shows that film in front of live audiences "sweeten" the soundtrack with additional laughter before the program airs. This is a well known industry "secret."
-
Next I watched Thursday night's LAW & ORDER: CI from USA. Now that the show isn't available in my area in high def, I get irritated with the picture. So easy to get spoiled.
As for the case, good story. I've gone all these years and never knew Eames had a husband who had been killed on the job. Good acting from Kathryn Erbe.
-
Finished up the afternoon with SMALLVILLE. Enjoyed the story very much. I wasn't completely on board with the addition of Supergirl to the show, but they're doing it very interestingly.
Jury is stil out about this new love interest for Lois. I'd prefer Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) to come back into the picture.

Tonight I'll be starting on the Season 3 box set of MEDIUM.

Heading down now to tend to a few simple house chores and then start in with MEDIUM.
WBBL.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JMK!!!!

I went on a drive today and took many photos. I will try to post a couple later

I can't find anything that indicates Krumholtz produces the show.
Then it probably isn't true. I read it once in a magazine article, so I believed it. If he isn't listed as a producer, I assume they were wrong.
-
Wow! We had a huge explosion here in Tacoma this afternoon. People felt it all over the city. If I could of felt it here, I wouldn't know, because I was napping. Anyway, turns out that it was the Atlas Foundry in Tacoma, which is located just a few blocks away from my office.

I figured they did that, but thought canned was a completely separate laugh track.
Can you tell the difference between non-sweetened, sweetened, and canned?

Back from two visits to the Courts show (explanation shortly). I will say that Ray pulled it off this time - after the last two shows I really thought he was done - not a lot of celebs, very few visitors compared to normal. Well, today was like the old days. A LOT of visitors and a LOT of what you'd have to call A-list celebs, including Tony Curtis, Debbie Reynolds (who really does look amazing), Elliot Gould (he and Mr. Curtis had the longest lines), Nastassia Kinski, Olivia Hussey, Mickey Dolenz, Richard Kiel, Joyce De Witt and the other gal from Three's Company (Priscilla somebody), Martine Beswicke, Shirley Eaton (still beautiful), Lucianna Paluzzi, George Lazenby, and lots of others I'm forgetting.
-
Sounds like a nice show. :)
-
Don't forget Tony Russel.
-
But the best fun for me was visiting with my pal Alan Hunt. I've known Alan since the early 70s and it's always nice running into him. He was part of a Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea group, which included David Hedison (amazing looking for his age) and Terry Becker. Terry was sitting next to Alan (Alan is now a teacher out in Oak Park, and, in fact, is Zach Wechter's teacher). Anyway, I have never been able to ascertain for absolutely certain that Terry Becker was who I saw back in the early 60s in a small LA production of A Family Affair. I wrote about seeing the show in Kritzer Time (page 211) because it had quite the impact on me. And, funnily, I hired John Gabriel to sing on one of my albums and HE was in that production. So, I hadn't used Terry's name in the book, just because at the time I had no way of being able to check the accuracy of my memory (I definitely remembered the actor's name was Terry), although my memory of events back then never fails me. So, I told Alan the story and Alan simply leaned over and asked Terry if he'd been in the show. Terry looked at him like he was nuts and said, "How do you know about that - my God, no one saw that show." To which I said, "I saw that show - and wrote about it and you." He couldn't believe it and we had the best time talking about it.
I'd picked up former dear reader Hisaka and current dear reader Miss Patti, both of whom wanted to attend the show. By twelve-thirty they were both ready to leave, so we all went and had lunch and then I took them to their various subway and/or destinations. I then decided to go back to the show, and brought Alan a set of the Kritzer books, which I know he'll enjoy (plus a Brain CD), and I brought a copy of Kritzer Time for Mr. Becker. He was so sweet and he read the little paragraph and was just amazed that anyone would remember the show and most especially his performance (which I call out in the book). He read it to several people. So sweet.
-
I saw several dealer friends and I had a very good time. Also seen was Lana Wood, Richard Anderson, Robert Culp (who looks awful - so much work on his face - he doesn't even resemble his handsome former self), Francine York, Jackie Joseph and Jonathan Haze, H.M. Wynant, and I'm sure I'll remember more.
-
Sweet story.

Good afternoon dear Esteemed, suave, studly, and guapo BK -- I'm really glad that there was some "quality" back in the Courts show. I had a lot of fun visiting with Norman Fell at one a number of years ago.
Good afternoon DRs and studlies and lovelies. Dear DR Laura and I had a lovely adventure this morning, and even though she shall probably protest and kill me, I'm posting some pictures here. ::)
-
Dear DR Laura is so generous and giving of her time to so many people, that I wanted to surprise her with a special breakfast date this morning. So... off we toddled to the lovely Frank Lloyd Wright inspired Arizona Biltmore Hotel. And we dined on their beautiful outdoor patio cafe...... Here is Dame Laura...
-
BK, I did not realize you had worked with John Gabriel....I interviewed him last year...and DR JRand and I have discussed him many times on this board...although it would appear these discussions wre read only by JRand and I.
-
:o ;D Ooooh, Oooohhhh.... and a new page !! :D

Dear Reader Laura, you are lovely!
-
One of the wonderful and unique things about this outdoor patio, is that it is populated by some very gregarious and lovely grackles. Here is a female that was sitting on the back of the chair opposite DR Laura.....
We watched them hover.....hover..... ;)
-
Good Evening!
Well... I thought I was supposed to be done with day rehearsals for Mary Poppins last week, but then I got called in for some more , rehearsals for this week. And, today, we got the schedule for next week, which has a couple of "double" rehearsals... which means they will need two pianists on certains days. So... I guess I am playing next week. -Of course, since I had thought I was supposed to be done last week, I had already booked myself for a few other gigs next week, so... Guess I need to go in tomorrow and hash out the schedule with the music staff.
In any case, we had a good rehearsal today. We almost got through the whole show twice. -And boy are my arms tired!
-
BK, I did not realize you had worked with John Gabriel....I interviewed him last year...and DR JRand and I have discussed him many times on this board...although it would appear these discussions wre read only by JRand and I.
A HOLLYWOOD CHRISTMAS contains a wonderful performance from Mr. Gabriel. . .
-
And as we were finishing up, the "apres-breakfast" ritual started for the grackles. Here is one helping itself to a rather major chunk of pineapple!
-
Oohhh... Maybe we have a new avatar for DR DearReaderLaura in the making! :)
-
And while a male had selected a delicate blueberry, a female was caught in mid-landing! :o
-
Back from Baltimore, and now off to the theater.
-
BK, was Del Monroe with the BOTTOM OF THE SEA group? Watching Mr. Monroe each week was one of my first inklings that I might be gay.
-
I'm watching the original pilot episode of Leave it To Beaver
-
And speaking of Grease... And "You're The One That I Want"...
While walking past the theatre tonight, I noticed lots(!) of signs taped to the door stating that "Matthew Hydzick would be playing the role of Danny Zuko tonight". -I guess Maxx Crumm it out sick or otherwise engaged tonight.
*I almost wanted to hang out to see what the refund line would be like at the box office. Although, since their names aren't above the title, I'm guessing refunds would not be honored. But who knows?
-
. . .unless I'm mistaken. ???
-
And of course, in the finest Tippi Hedren tradition, 3 more grackle-friends joined the table.
Of course, all of this has to happen in a ver short window of time....before the bus-person shows up to whisk everything away from the table.
-
I love the bird pictures, as well as seeing the lovely Dame Laura.
-
After our lovely repast, we walked across the lawn to another original feature of the hotel - an oversized checkerboard in the lawn that can be either set for chess or checkers. This used to be very popular with Hollywood stars in the 30s and 40s.
Here are DR Laura and some retired musician in the midst of the chess pieces.
-
And speaking of Grease... again...
DR Matthew - I bought the new OCR last week, but have yet to listen to it. It's just not on my priority list right now. However, I suspect the reason the disc sounds so "boring" is due to the fact that the producers of the current revival of Grease chose not to hire a Music Director for the production, since "it's just Grease". (Not their words, but that the impression I got from a couple of people involved in the project.) -And if you look at all the credits on the album, there is no Music Director or Conductor listed for the production. -Kim Grigsby is listed as the conductor of the recording.
*There's a signing on Monday at the Virgin Megastore... I wonder what kind of craziness that is going to be.
-
DR MusicGuy - Did you and DR DearReaderLaura get to eat anything for breakfast? Or did the birds eat all of it?
-
I am watching SEASON ONE of HEROES on dvd, which I picked up last night *used* for less than two sawbucks. ;D
-
And at the far left and far right, you can see the red and black round discs that are used for playing checkers. Even though they look fairly solid, these are actually made like a padded cushion that would go on a bar stool.
I thought it would be cute to have dear DR Laura sit on a stack of these for a picture...... ::)
W E L L ...... sometimews the best plans go... SPOO !!! And here is the lovely and graceful dear DR Laura "Al Fresco....."
-
Was Tippi Hedren anywhere near the Biltmore?
-
Dear DR jojo -- oh we had lovely and tasty things for breakfast, and we shoved most of it into our collective gaping maws !! (thank you BK).
I'll let dear DR Laura tell about the foodstuffs.....if she is still speaking to me. ;D
-
Strange to see a different Ward and to see him smoking
-
Was Tippi Hedren anywhere near the Biltmore?
I thinki Tippi was hiding behind a Rook, out on the lawn! ;)

Now that I have wasted space and bored everyone, I must go think about some food for myself.
Ta ta lovelies and studlies and sirens and vixens.
-
Great to see DR Laura! great photos
-
Strange to see a different Ward and to see him smoking
But the burning question is, was he as worried about the Beaver? ???
-
Hmm... I just got the "official" schedule for next week's Mary Poppins rehearsals, and it looks like I may have double-booked myself unintentionally for three(!) days next week. Guess I should send the e-mail now..

So... Have her lawyers called your lawyers yet? ;)
;D luckily, her people are gentle and pacifists,.... and I don't have "people," so I think we're OK.

DR TCB - haven't you been told "playing with matches a girl can get burned?"
-
He must have shrugged, evidently.
He must have been thinking of the forthcoming film of his shrugging.
-
I'm watching the original pilot episode of Leave it To Beaver
Notice that Harry Shearer is one of the neighborhood kids!!
-
Hello, HHWers!
Thanks, DR Tomovoz, for the update. Glad that you had a good visit.
DR elmore3003 - that Amahl issue is of great interest to me - thanks for the heads up!
DR MusicGuy - thanks for all the great photos! It's great to see DR Laura!
Also - I got word today from DR Dan (the Man). He is taking a break from HHW. Not from anger or any reason, particularly, except that he is very busy at work and can't keep up with all the posts. Although he didn't say so explicitly, I think it's a pretty good bet that he'll be back in the future.

Re: skunks
Once when I was walking Zach, we came upon a skunk that had gotten his head stuck in a piece of trash - it wasn't glass, I think it was actually a discarded McDonald's shake cup. Anyway, the poor thing was wandering blindly into the roadway. So, very cautiously [I knew he couldn't see me approaching, but didn't know what would happen after the reveal], I quietly approached, grabbed the cup, tore it off, and then Zach and I backed away, very quiety and very quickly. The skunk looked startled for just a moment, then turned and ran off into the woods. It made me happy to do the good deed and not get sprayed in return. And - this was all accomplished without the use of a gun!
[I realize that a glass bottle would complicate things].

Everyone should have a Laura in their family.

I have conflicting information from NYMF...
Is Sunday's performance of Starfighter at 4:00 PM or 4:30 PM?
Thanks!
-
DR Laura, just for you.

We are back from dinner at Pietrasanta. We sat outside on 47th St. and without consulting each other decided on the same order - Fettuccine alla Pietrasanta, which is spinach pasta with zucchini and peas in a light tomato cream sauce. Add an nice bottle of white wine and it was a delightful dinner. Unfortunately, this bad cold that I have interferes with my appetite, so I didn't eat much.
-
It was a beautiful day for a walk in town.

Hmmm, IMHO, he nailed Legally Blonde sound-wise, but missed the style completely for Grease
He was the Star Music Boy at Goodspeed and caught the eye of William D Brohn who's responsible for a lot of his advancement.

DRs MusicGuy and Jane - thanks for the photos.
DR Singdaw - thanks for the update about DR Dan(the Man).
-
Good to hear that DtM is Ok.
-
I'm watching the original pilot episode of Leave it To Beaver
Keith will be so happy to hear this-honest. :D
-
DR Ginny - Glad to hear you liked the Monkey Cake. And, yes, sometimes the cream cheese frosting can get overwhelming, however, the trick is to "ration" is so that you get a bit of frosting with each bite of cake. Trust me, it can be done. ;D

I had a lovely time today at Such Good Friends. I was seated directly behind DR Noel and some of his family, and directly across the aisle from Peter Filichia. And I did have a brief opportunity to introduce myself to Noel. "Ah," he said! "It's SlipShod!" :)
The theater was full and the audience very receptive. And it was a fabulous show. The storytelling fluid, enhanced by very clear direction, set, and staging to bring the audience along. I enjoyed it immensely - the review that Noel posted earlier today [which I did not see until after I'd see the show] echoed many thoughts and feelings that I had.
Just as with The Brain, the cast was exemplary. How these productions in the NYMF pull it off, given the circumstances, is a testament to talent and professionalism.
Congratulations to DR Noel on his show and a very successful final performance! I am so glad that I had the opportunity to see it.

DR Ginny - Glad to hear you liked the Monkey Cake. And, yes, sometimes the cream cheese frosting can get overwhelming, however, the trick is to "ration" is so that you get a bit of frosting with each bite of cake. Trust me, it can be done. ;D
Yeah, we did the rationing thing, but still had quite a bit left over. Monkey Cake reminded me of the Banana Walnut Torte, which was my favorite dessert on the menu of one of my fav Cincinnati restaurants, The Grande Finale. It was taken off the menu years ago >:(

Another evening of not being able to stay awake - 'night!

I'm back from SHERLOCK HOLMES (THE EARLY YEARS) and I thought the music was beter than the lyrics and the book, which seemed too slangy and colloquial to be set somewhere around 1880 London. The band - keyboard, bass, violin, and drums - was tasty but it all seemed too silly at times, neither a really good mystery nor a very funny spoof but the majority of the audience appeared to like it more than I. There was one funny "love" duet for Holmes and a clueless Watson (most of the story revolves around the dilemma of Watson on whether his true love is the beautiful - but quite mad - nurse or Holmes) and a strange disco number for the three bobbies who want to be dancers instead of policemen. I thought its cast, choreography and direction quite good, however, but I wanted to like the show more than I did.
-
Also - I got word today from DR Dan (the Man). He is taking a break from HHW. Not from anger or any reason, particularly, except that he is very busy at work and can't keep up with all the posts. Although he didn't say so explicitly, I think it's a pretty good bet that he'll be back in the future.
I'm sure he will :). Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks-I really enjoyed that. Now I want to see the show.

I'm bored of these people taking breaks. Some day, they'll take a break and come back to find this here site gone - then what will they do, that's what I'd like to know? We don't need no stinking breaks. I haven't had a break since the site went live in November of 2001.
-
I'm just so darned tired, that's the thing. I don't know what I'll watch this evening, either.
-
Yes, Del was there with his Voyage compatriots.
-
It's a smutty book.

Well, in a few minutes I will be off to see AUNTIE MAME starring my best friends (and the close and personal friends of SUCH GOOD FRIENDS actor Brad Oscar), Sharry O'Hare and her husband, Micheal O'Hara. Sharry, although best known as a musical comedy star in the Northwest, has never had any desire to do MAME, the musical. She has waited a long time for a theater to actually produce AUNTIE MAME.
Actually, I am a semi-member of the cast, as my voice has been heard nightly, as the voice of Patrick Dennis' father reading his will at the opening of the play.
Hey, it got me free tickets to the show!
-
TCB=Have a great evening!

Greetings new member, DotM! Welcome to Haines His Way!

Better than "taking care of the kunk with such skindness"!!
Nothing surprising from such a gentleman as Singdaw!

Thanks, Jane. Hugs to Keith and Sherlock.

It is amazing what cell phones can do.
Oh, yeah?!
Can they do the dishes???.... NO!
Can they do the cooking??... NO!
Can they mop the kitchen floor??... NO
SOOOO...... what's good about them, except imposing on others loud conversations no one cares to hear! ;)

Welcome DotM! Do you have any pets?

I don't think DR TCB was waiting for an answer though! ;)
-
DR Jane, glad you liked the clips. DR Samantha and I had a blast at the show. I can't wait to see it on TV

Really :o I thought I would respond anyway. ;D

Cilla, they did a nice job of putting the clips together.
I have dirty dishes calling out to me, and so far my cell phone can't wash them.

I figured they did that, but thought canned was a completely separate laugh track.
Can you tell the difference between non-sweetened, sweetened, and canned?
They use canned laugh tracks to sweeten what the studio audience gives them watching live, so the tracks you hear on today's comedy shows are an audio mix.
I think all the shows that have studio laughter are sweetened nowadays. It's not a new phenomenon. Even back in the days of I LOVE LUCY, you can hear some of the same audience sounds (that unmistakable "uh-oh") in numerous episodes throughout the run.

Here's a little fall color from my yard

I did enjoy the pics of DRs Laura and Music Guy. Thanks so much for sharing them with us.

I spent most of my evening watching the first disc in the MEDIUM - Season 3 set. I started with that magnificent two hour season premiere - the one that featured the cartoon "Monkeyheads" that Bridget kept seeing. This one also featured Patricia Arquette's real-life husband, the ever-gorgeous Thomas Jane, as her old high school sweetheart, now dead.
A superb season premiere for one of the most imaginative series on TV.
-
Page Ten Hermione and Viktor Dance!!!
-
Also on that first disc of MEDIUM was that wonderful episode where Alison kept reliving the same day four times until she figured out exactly what was happening so she could do something about it that wouldn't get those she loved injured or killed.
-
And the last episode on disc one had another visit from our old spooky friend Dr. Charles Walker, the butcher doctor who killed young girls. I didn't think this episode lived up to previous ones over the last two seasons, but we did get some poignant backstory on him which was vital to understanding his character.
-
I also watched two deleted scenes and a featurette on how the animation was done for the season premiere.

I also watched tonight's TORCHWOOD. Another very involving episode. Wonder if the team will be on the "outs" with Jack in subsequent episodes? They certainly didn't seem to hold any grudges against the butler this week after what he put them through last week.
-
Since I didn't get either THE HOAX or THE INVISIBLE in the mail today (I was expecting both), I'll be spending tomorrow and Monday (since there is no mail) with MEDIUM. I should be able to get through a large batch of episodes with nothing else here that HAS to be seen quickly.

I was very careful to put my cloth napkin on my lap, not to spill anything or break the coffee cup. And then I sit on the cushions in front of all those people.... I really shouldn't be allowed in nice places.

Today DR Sandra and I saw "Jersey Boys."

Thanks for the link François.
A friend alerted me to a clip of "Nick Lampe" today. He had success with the song here in Australia but not in his home country. Perhaps he is known as a NO hit wonder in the USA.

I suspect you made the day for all those people who were there Dear Reader Laura.

Back from margaritas and Mexican food with Ms Erin Webley of "The Brain" ensemble who leaves on Monday for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. I really adore her and it was a lot of fun spending the time with her. And now to bed.

singdaw - I believe it's at 4:30. Is there somewhere where it says 4:00?

Jeez (zeej, spelled backwards), we've had about five posts in the last three hours. How dreary.

Well, we may as well make it to three hundred.
