On the Mercer front, we have some exciting things coming up next week---interviews with Dame Judi Dench (she starred in the original London production of Mercer's last musical, THE GOOD COMPANIONS) and Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth, who will perform several songs from FOXY with a small ensemble. Sir John is doing an original arrangement of "Dream" for us. I won't be going since it's in London and I didn't want to blow my frequent flyer miles for just a few days there, but I'm sure looking forward to seeing and hearing the results!

Wow! that is exciting

Let's not forget the Guy Haines recording of Past My Prime by Mr. Mercer - it's delectable.

No posts in thirty-five minutes?  Let's knock THAT off right away.  Meanwhile, I shall now be on my way to sup with Miss Julie Reiber.

I've always had a soft spot for the charm of the musical version of "The Good Companions".

Oy, what a day!  I scrubbed woodwork and vacumed carpets.  Then I lugged the Christmas tree platform up to the livingroom.  Then pulled out boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations out of the attic so that I could reach the containers that hold my Christmas tree.  But now the tree is up and I am ordering a pizza.

I'm making turkey carass soup.

It's spelled "caress" - and I'm sure the bird appreciates the belated affection.

No Christmas garden on the platform?  No trains? What has become of a Philly Christmas?

DR Tomovoz, I put an angel on top of my tree.  Whether it's a fairy or not, I do not know.

DR DerBrucer,  the tree is up but I am in no way finished here.  Tomorrow I'll put on the tree lights and decorate it.  Sunday, I'll put on the train track and build Christmas Land on the one side and the Nativity on the other.  Tradition continues!

My drawer needed to be pulled TWICE in a 6.5 hour shift!

When mine get like that, I usually throw them out.

Yes, you could do that, of course, but what would YOU  do with all the money?

It could be, couldn't it?  But no, that's our little Tobers.  I was trying to catch a picture of him smiling, but I wasn't quite quick enough.  I caught the tail end of a smile.

I'm glad people seem to have had good Thanksgiving celebrations.  We had a lovely one with Jed's family up in Seattle.  His aunts and uncles and cousins adored Toby and for the majority of the afternoon and evening they played the enjoyable game "Stare at the Baby" which Toby put up with surprisingly well. He cooed at everyone and stared at the lights and fell asleep in the wrap long enough to let me gorge myself on turkey and sweet potatoes.  After dinner we sang Christmas carols, a tradition started by Jed's aunt Nancy a few years back and continued with a glint of steely determination in her eye as she passes out lyric sheets.  Jed grandmother picked each key, and because she is a female tenor, we sang everything in a gravely tone.  It was great fun.

DR singdaw:  Our Lady of the Necklaces was working Union Square today.  I matched  the necklaces to two pairs of earrings...and bought a third necklace with matching earrings, as well.  She gave me a good price on it all, too.

Then I went to David's on Geary and got a hot pastrami (sadly,  they were not anticipating large crowds today and had no sauerkraut for a reuben.  They also had no sour cream potato salad.  But the garlic pickle was scrumptious.

One thing that I have learned this Thanksgiving is that my turkey-carving skills leave much to be desired.

No pictures.  Let it suffice to quote Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now: "The horror, the horror."
