Region 1 is for the US and Canada but UK Region 2 DVDs do not work in most US DVD players (region codes are for DVDs only, not VCRs). Another difference is NTSC vs. PAL formats. US VCRs and DVD players only play the NTCS format and British DVD players and VCRs only play PAL. The formats are not compatible, even though the respective DVDs and videotapes look the same.

There are several of us here on HHW who have region-code-free DVD players (me included) and, if the DVD is NOT copyguarded, can make a VHS copy of a Region 2 DVD. If you're thinking of getting a UK VHS, then you have to take (or mail) the PAL VHS tape to a place that can convert it. And that will add to the cost of the tape. A couple of places around where I live charge at least $20 per two-hour tape.

Hi Gang!

I know that I have been seriously E & T these past couple of weeks. I'm sorry. It was heck going back to work. I’ve been so very tired by the time I get home and the weekends just seem to fly by.

I've tried to keep up with posts but I fear that I've even lost my place with them. There is no way I can go back and read them all so I will start with today and (hopefully) go forward.

To be very honest, I don't think I shall be posting as much as I would like. I've debated about saying anything but I think I should tell you that my Mother is very ill.

I'm also still struggling with getting over my own surgery. By mid afternoon I get so tired I have to fight to stay awake. I fall asleep on the bus ride home more often then not. Thank goodness for that big bump as we pull into the parking lot where I get off the bus. It always manages to wake me up.

Some nights it's all I can do to make supper, wash the dishes and run a load of laundry or what ever chore needs to be done. Then I try to sit with Mom for at least a half hour before I feel like I'm going to pass out if I don't lie down.

When I mowed the grass on Saturday morning and had a shower, I was so worn out that I had to lie down. I didn't wake up until that evening.

I just wanted to say that if I don't post everyday or if I'm not quick to answer your emails, please forgive me during this difficult time. I'm going to do my best to at least pop by and say "hi".

I hope that everything is going well for all of you. Vibes to any that need them.

It cracked me up that Fran and Barry finished first. I don't really care for them. But I liked how they worked with the hippies. It's funny because they won't help anyone. But they realized that the hippies could help them!

I can't believe the frat brothers tried to take a short-cut to try to win the leg. That was stupid (although it would have been hilarious if they had done it).

I'm happy the hippies did not get eliminated. Last week they might have deserved it for going 2 hours in the wrong direction. But last night's digging was mostly luck. And i don't like it when a really good team loses because of luck. I was surprised though since they have had really good luck in the past.

Australia (next week) looks awesome. That will be a far trek!

I am cheering for Fran and Barry , I actually like them more each time and really don't like the Frat boys at all - of course I never did like frat boys.

I need some advice. I have to decide this pretty quickly, but there is a group from the Orpheum Society that is going to New York and going to the Tony Awards. They are also going to Spamalot, but I've seen that and may want to see something else. A friend is leading the trip and trying to talk me into going. So....I'm wondering if it is impossible to get tickets to anything the weekend of the Tonys. Would going to the Tonys and sitting wherever the public ends up be worth it? The trip is June 9-12 but you can stay an extra day for a fee, not sure what that is.

I'm toying with the idea. it's more money that i want to spend, but I've always wanted to go to New York with this friend and it would be a great chance

Der B and I are back from the new Super G opening in Millville, DE.

The place is H U G E ! Much larger than the store where I work. Fortunately, much of it is dedicated to elbow room. While the aisles may be longer than those at "my" store, they are lit well enough so that they don't feel claustrophobic.

Der B was absolutely thrilled with their cheese shoppe (a special island close to the produce section): big selection, lots of variety. And they've got a very nice olive bar, which has other marinated goodies as well.

The butcher's shop was nice and open; over in seafood, they even had a specialist making sushi!

I "sort of" made a mistake by wearing my work shirt to the opening. All right, I wanted to be identified as a Super G employee. So, of course, one of their managers spotted me, and gave me a quizical look. I introduced myself, and told him I was from the Rehoboth store, and asked "Is there something I can help you with?" Sure enough, a truckload of shopping carts had just arrived, and I ended up helping moving them from the loading dock (their backstage area is a dream, spacious and airy) to the front of the store. Der B caught me helping out and just shook his head. You'd think he would have expected this.

As it is, one of the middle-managers who was helping open the new store will be joining my store in a week, to run our produce section. Good news, I say, since Nick was getting his start at the Rehoboth store last summer, and we got along great.

Time to get some dinner on the table.

Well, I have just written the word "as the CURTAIN FALLS". So, aside from additions and futzing once I go back and read, act one of the new play is done. I'm pretty happy with the feel of it and I think it moves along, but I won't know until I hear it out loud. I now have to decide whether to do a read-through of act one before beginning act two. It probably would be helpful, but I'm not sure. What say all of you?

I'm going out to an impromptu dinner with la Deutsch shortly.
