Well, you've read the notes, the notes REEKED of garlic, and now it is time for you to post until the reeking of garlic cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PANDICULATE!
-
Wow!
:o
I'm the first one to post today after BK.
That is a first.
:)
-
TOD:
I still haven't had a chance to watch:
THE CONSTANT NYMPH
THE STUDENT PRINCE
THE HUCKSTERS
and the last 2 Randolph Scott movies:
CARSON CITY
WESTBOUND
I also have MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, so there are plenty of choices.

Today is tooth-pulling day.

Pain-free vibes to Druxy

I hope it's over with quick and painlessly, DR Druxy.
-
Good morning, all.

Pain-free vibes to Druxy
Add my vibes to the novocaine.

Loved Filichia on Friday today. I saw the revival that BK recorded, after the show hit Broadway. Wonderful production. Would have liked to see this cast perform it.
-
TOD: Still adding finishing touches on the book and the publisher gave us until Monday, so it will be a weekend of work, not entertainment. Maybe some Christmas for a Cure at work.
-
Vibes to all today!
-
Friday morning greetings! It's overcast in SW Ohio this morning and it really looks like it's going to snow.
-
I've bought some Christmas cards, so will be writing them over the weekend.
-
Good morning, all! I slept late, and my last memory of a dream is something about a party and cleaning up after and finding a seat seat on a crowded bus.
I will finish the DEAREST ENEMY vocal score proof this morning, and then begin work on Jerome Kern's ROBERTA: I have several numbers to create from orchestra parts, and stage band music to score, so that will occupy much of my next few weeks.
Last night I watched THE STINGIEST MAN IN TOWN, something I've wanted to see again since I saw it on Dec 23, 1956. It wasn't until Johnny Desmond was singing "The Birthday Party of the King" that I had a real deja vu that I had seen the original broadcast. While I do like much of the score, I find a lot of the lyrics, like "There Is A Santa Claus," geared to a 1950s Americana and completely out of place in Dickensian London. Since I've always had this feeling about the soundtrack recording, it was confirmed by seeing the broadcast, which is a rather cutesy-poo adaptation. I liked Basil Rathbone a lot, and I enjoyed a few of the passing roster of actors and singers, like Robert Weede, Martyn Green, Patrice Munsel and Robert Wright.
I had a good time watching a live broadcast - I think it's live - and marveling at the blocking. Some of the camera work is sloppy, but that's expected in a live broadcast. Unfortunately the level of the material isn't as good as Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, which maintains a much higher level of professionalism and sophistication. In the third act, a horrid ballet of lost souls seems not only pointless but disorganized and unnecessary.
TOD:
DVD: there are some Netflix items sitting here
CD: new recording of THE FORTUNE TELLER, Guy Haines, LizCallaway
VCR: at last, new porn!

I actually love garlic!

And the word of the day is: PANDICULATE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I GOT OUT OF BED ON THE RIGHT SIDE

Last night brought the first seasonal viewing of "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol." "Winter Was Warm" is a great song.

Dental vibes for DR DRUXY.

I'm not following--did Elmore get ripped off?

I'm listening to one of First Call's two Christmas albums. Though I believe he knows and detests their arranger, I must say their vocals are absolutely sumptuous, especially on Caroling, Caroling, which I posted a link to here many years ago on Christmas Day.
-
I think that's the drift DR JMK.

Well the guy's last name is Hack. Or something like that. :)
-
It is a solid sheet of ice in Mt. Park, Oregon, which is peculiar since the weather claims we are temperate (and the sun is actually out).
-
I decided to tidy the apartment by putting things away, and now I've got the place in turmoil: it's like putting 20lbs of sausage in a 10lb bag.
At least I've got the show vocal and full scores shelved. I'm still lacking room on the compoers' shelves for all of the Offenbach scores I've accumulated. Since the Miami University Library no longwer will take my library of books, I have no idea of what I want to rid myself of. I need an intern to come in and put some volumes on eBay for me.
Speaking of handy men no longer being handy, where the hell is DR MBarnum? I swear he's in jail, probably for resting where some cop was arresting.

You can also see Mrs. Pat Proft, the gorgeous Karen Philipp (who played Nurse Dish on two episodes of the tv version of M*A*S*H) on the right on the album cover, though she doesn't sing on this tune.
-
Karen Philipp Sings (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbpqjrua-l0)
A nice Williams-Nichols tune that should have gotten more airplay in 1971 than it did. Fantastic harmonica.
-
Unsubstantiated rumor has it that may be Stevie Wonder on harmonica, as Sergio and Stevie became good friends around this time and Stevie wrote several tunes for Sergio.

I'm up, once again awakened by the unseemly ringing of the telephonic device.

One of the Bergmans' most evocative lyrics and Lani is channeling Judy Garland.

Dave was Grammy nominated for his orchestrations on that album, and it's not hard to hear why.

He asked her to to record it for whatever he's doing; I think it's to land orchestration work.
No one's hiring me for my work, so good luck to him!
-
I found a place to put the oversized full scores for KISS ME KATE and the Jerome Robbins-Mary Martin version of PETER PAN, so they're no longer collecting dust. I will postponbe the composers' shelves of music, because it's too horrifying with too much furniture to shuffle around.
It's time for some income work.

As for the Topic of the Day...
Yesterday afternoon, I took a bus up to The Haight, and stopped into Amoeba up there. I ended up picking up a few things including the soundtrack for "The Muppets".
-
*And after my relatively brief time in The Haight, I have to ask: Does "Haight" mean "headshop strip-mall" in some language? ::)
-
And, yes! Musso & Frank with bk at 12:15pm! YEAH!
-
And speaking of Musso & Frank with bk at 12:15pm, I should start getting ready to head into Hollywood. I also want to spend a couple of minutes packing my bags for my trip back east tomorrow morning. This afternoon, I will be heading down to Santa Monica with my friend, Michelle and her husband - a.k.a. my hosts. Michelle has arranged a birthday party for herself down on the Pier. It's her 40th! -Well, her birthday is actually on Sunday, but that's when her husband will be taking her out for a very special evening. Michelle is a Cancer Survivor, and today's celebration will be shared with some of her fellow Cancer Survivors and friends. It should be a very special occasion on many levels.
-
OK...
I should tend to my morning ablutions.

BK: A possible "fix" for your all-region player (not guaranteed but it "might" do the trick) is to plug a flash drive into one of the player's USB ports. That gives the unit a bit more memory. It worked on my Sony for the better part of one year until another DVD refused to play ("The Ten Commandments"). I can get the upgrades, but I have to have them sent to me.

I got my flu shot today. There was only a 5 minute wait (and i filled out my form in the time). And then since it was being done just downstairs from the library i asked i could wait my 15 minutes in the library. :)

In my CD player here at work: the original cast recording of Silence! The Musical. ;D It just arrived directly from Ghostlight.

Not for the model I have, unfortunately. Supposedly, this should work by downloading to a CD-R...but I've tried and it didn't work. Maybe it's me.

We watched HIDE last night. I liked the cast & thought the movie was good. Keith, having never read the book, enjoyed it very much.

This morning Keith figured out how to get the car into neutral & out of the garage. Then the tow truck arrived & the tow person easily charged the battery so Keith rushed down to the dealership. A bit later I followed to pick him up as the car had to be left.
Keith keeps laughing at his shock when he couldn't find the battery. It is funny we have had this car for for almost 5 years & never realized, or forgot, the battery was hidden. Frustrations of the last two days aside, we are very happy with VW & would purchase from them again.

I still don't understand why Liz would do that. It's Alex's arrangement, clearly, and it's close to Larry's orchestration. Then again, she sang on a CD for a certain label just months after I'd left, so who knows why people do things.

Good evening. It was a really long week. I should be practicing for our concerts this weekend, but I left the music in the high school band room where we practice on Wednesday night. I called first thing Thursday morning and it wasn't there, so someone in band probably picked it up. Hopefully they will bring it to the concert tomorrow morning. Tomorrow is really just playing easy Christmas carols for an event while wearing red and green and sant hats. Yup, we're the band they pull out of the woodwork to do these silly things. It's for the Little Yellow Dog auction. Cute yellow lab this year. It's all for charity so the dog usually goes for thousands of dollars.
