Is it a Chris that belongs to Ruth, when they say Ruth's Chris?

There was a Chris' Steak House in new Orleans, and when it was bought by Ruth she didn't want to change the name so she added hers to it.

When I took my mom out for breakfast yesterday she mentioned that she had wanted to go to Ruth's Chris last year on her birthday. So I told her I would take her this year. And I told her about bk's favorite steak cookied in butter. So we have a date. (We have several Ruth's Chris in Atlanta.)

My mom's name is Ruth, too!

OK...here we are at page 9, pretty fine. Time for me to sign off. I have to be at work early to start work with my new Closer producers.

Good night!

JRand:
Favorite Stooges routine was the alphabet song. B A bay, B E bee, B I Bicky By B O Bo, etc.  I think they were working a car wash while singing that tune.

eBay's name originated from the time Moe went up on the lyrics on this ditty.

It's the truth!

DR ELMORE,
the Copland book looks perfect! I'll read at least one or two more, as well. Thx again.

I saw Neal Patrick Harris in Cabaret and thought he was very good. And I love Michael Vartan---he played Lancelot in our TNT "Mists of Avalon". He's so yummy.

Yes, he is. And Lynn Redgrave played Rupert Everett's mother, so the movie was loaded with talent.

Well, I had plenty of time to see everything I wanted tonight. I began  as was my plan with the 1925 BEN-HUR. The movie has been restored during the past few years, but it still looks very rough in places. The two-strip Technicolor sequences all look quite good, and I liked Carl Davis' score for this restoration. Worked very well.

I thought I had watched this on TCM some years ago, but I saw sequences in this version that I had never seen before, so I was very glad I watched this tonight.

And Ramon Novarro had a GREAT set of legs on him and very expressive eyes. I can imagine his setting many male and female hearts aflutter back in the day.

I flipped over to see a minute or two of the game in high definition, and it was pouring down rain so the resolution was nothing to see. The Colts were leading by two points when I flipped it on, but I didn't linger.

ROME had a gripping episode tonight as Vorenus and Pullo rekindled their friendship and went in search of Vorenus' children. Servilla and Attia's rivalry came to a head tonight as well. Really enjoyed the show which looked stupendous in HD.

Another year where my routine goes seemingly uneffected by the superbowl. My mom was annoyed all day though.

We just returned from the Super Bowl Party, where we ate much food and played games. Apparently there was some kind of sports match on, too.

For alternate programming today, TNT has rerun the entire first season of THE CLOSER. At 10 p.m. came my favorite episode from the first season, so I had the DVR record EXTRAS, and I watched THE CLOSER in HD. (The DVD set for the first season is non-anamorphic letterbox, so I was anxious to see this favorite episode again in the highest resolution possible; all the better to lust after Jason O'Mara in high def.)

I had forgotten that I still have Friday night's LAW & ORDER to watch, so I'll screen that tomorrow afternoon along with tonight's EXTRAS. Hopefully, some Blu-rays will come in the mail tomorrow, and if not, I may be going to the opera with Charlie Chan.

Hmm... Well, the heat is currently "off", but will probably come on again around 4:00am... Of course, it was basically running full blast all day creating a very sauna-like atmosphere in the apartment.  I've been leaving one of the windows partially open the past couple of days to help regulate the temps - if that's even possible - but with the temps taking a nosedive tonight (and tomorrow).... What to do?  What to do?

DR Jeanne - RE: Music Books - I still treasure Leonard Bernstein's "Young People's Concerts".  The text book was reissued last year by Amadeus Press, and the complete set of televised ones are available in a nice DVD box-set.

...And I also highly recommend Ted Libbey's NPR Guide - and be sure to check out the "Performance Today" section on NPR's website.  Lots of goodies there.

In other news...

I, too, have a "space odyssey" to take soon.  Well, I'm already 'taking' it now, so...

I figured since Steve was more than kind enough to help me load all of the stuff out of my storage place in Richmond, get it on the truck, and load it all into my room, I did not want to take further advantage of his "kindness" by having him help me get my room set up.  However, last night, we did spend a few hours putting together one shelving unit - and figuring out the proper way to mount the CD/DVD units.  Otherwise, we spent most of the past couple of days inside, where it was warm - or at least not windy and freezing cold.  We did venture out a few times - including a trip down to Battery Park yesterday - Steve wanted to take more pics of the Statue of Liberty - but we spent some good time here at the apartment just relaxing and watching TV.  And ordering Chinese food from Ollie's.  Oh, and this morning, I cooked breakfast for the aparment - Blueberry Pancakes!  -And I was able to use my double-burner griddle for the first time in three years!

As for earlier tonight, I did end up putting on the "Grease" show while I was organizing things in my room.  And upon second hearing, it really is as bad as I thought it was the first time.

DR Michael Shayne - As for your video footage of Juliana - Trust me, the producers don't need it.  They've been doing tons of background research on everybody - they don't want some unseemly surprise popping up during the final weeks of the so-called competition.  They know everything.

Random bit of knowledge gained over the past couple of days...

Did you know that the name "IKEA" is based on the founder's initials?

Steve and I had our usual special meal at Becco Friday night.  And as usual, he had the "Zuppa di Pesce" and I had the "Osso Buco".  And we also also had a wonderful bottle of red (Barbera d'Asti), and the grappa sampler with dessert.  And by "sampler", that meant four glasses of the house made elixirs for the price of two.  Alas, due to the bottle of red we had with dinner, we - well, I was not able to finish off the grappa... Let's just say I was praying for a smooth ride home on the subway.  Which it was.  Whew!

But, still, we had a wonderful meal as always.  *And the blood orange sorbetto was delizioso!.

RE: The English Fruit Cake - I think I'm know what you're talking about... and where to get it!  Along with the caterpillars!  -Let me just double-check my sources.

*And also note, that there is a difference between "almond paste" and "marzipan".  The terms have been used interchangeably, but you use almond paste to make marzipan.

And on that note...

I believe I shall get ready for bed.  I'm hoping to get an early start tomorrow.  If I play my cards right, I can have a major part of my very own space odyssey completed by Noon.  If I wake up at 8:00am.  So...

Goodnight.
