And I'll do more ODD COUPLE episodes while I cook and eat lunch. Looking forward to them, of course.

I love "The Apartment" and have not seen it for years.  I think i may have mentioned it before, but people forget how good Fred McMurray was at drama, and this role was such a contrast to the Flubbber movies he was doing for Disney.

I, too, like, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" Ms. Hepburn and Mr. Tracy have some great scenes together and good dialogue.    I've always loved the score and counter  melodies that DeVol used.  And the film has style.  It has its weaknesses but is still worth viewing.

Beautiful day here in the desert. I think I shall go for a walk.

Luckily for me, the doctor recommended a walk every day for the cholesterol and bone density.  :)

I also love THE APARTMENT and greatly enjoy GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER, but I'll hold out on both to one day get HD transfers rather than upgrading what I've got now.

The theme from THE APARTMENT was one of most ambitious piano selections I ever mastered (I had only a small talent for playing the piano).

Ditto! And I still find the long, continuous take of Poitier talking with his character's father an amazing scene ...

I saw DR CASON last night here at HHW.....wonderful.

I just realized which actor HAD the perfect persona for ZUBRICK - in addition to Mr Murphy and Mr Manlove from PNFOS....it is Mr Steve Franken.

I loved the scene in GWTW where Miss Scarlett took her mother's Poitier and made a dress!

I love the song of the day, DR ARNOLD BROCKMAN....and I love hearing the stories of the audience reaction to its first performances....and the demand for encore after encore.....

Irving Berlin......

I didn't like The Apartment for many years, avoided it, in fact, because Mr Jack Lemmon can get on my last nerve.  I watched it last year, and Shirley MacClaine won me over.....she and Mr McMurray.

Why does Billy Wilder have a character named Sheldrake in several movies, I wonder?

Can't say as I'm surprised.  Mammy probably had designs of her own for Miss Ellen's Poitier!

It's often hard to separate the Latin spellings from the Italian.

A favorite bastardization:

Veni, Vidi, Vini  -- I came, I conquered, I drank wine!

And there is the South Carolina state motto:

Dum Spiro Spero -- "While I breathe, I hope".

The phrase is attributed to Cicero, according to Wikipedia, and is often associated with the Scottish Clan McClellan.

There are five designers left and, from what I can glean from the promos, TWO (count 'em 2) will be eliminated tonight.

Among the few things I remember from two years of Latin in high school (lo, these many decades ago):

"Mica, mica parva stella"

That's "Twinkle, twinle little star," by the way.

I read somewhere(cant remember where)that one day , Fred MacMurray had taken the family to Disneyland; A woman asked him if he were FM; He answered yes,, expecting I suppose, a request for an autograph. Instead, she hauled off and slapped him across the face because he'd been so mean to Miss MacLaine in the APARTMENT>

I remember reading that after THE APARTMENT, McMurray swore he would never again play a dark character, hence, his continuation of MY THREE SONS and the progression of sunny Disney movies.
