Good Morning, DR Ginny.
Ooh... Are the arrangements for the "Christmas Gift" working out?
TOD: I decided around 2004, after a horrifyingly disastrous attempt at romance to never go there again. I won't dance, don't ask me and I'll never fall in love again.
Um, DR Jose, I've been meaning to email you about it. I haven't heard anything since emailing the third party on Feb. 1, nor seen any evidence that I've been charged. Should I be concerned?
My mother keeps making suggestions on decorating my house...the scary thing is I agree with her! Oh dear, what does that mean???? My mother does have good taste, maybe that's it..yeah, yeah, that's got to be it
I am, however, very pleased with my furniture delivery men.And they say romance is dead...or is this cruising? ;)
...which means if I decide to get the area rug that looks way cool with the set, I can get free delivery when they replace the chair! The area rug is on sale...I may have to make a trip to the furniture store.Yep, definitely cruising. ;D
Elmore, I HAVE that old Rise Stevens LADY IN THE DARK recording. She sure can't act! Hey...Boss Lady....
Boy, can I relate to that statement. Every time I convince myself that romance is a good thing, I'm sorry about it. The longer I go without a significant other the happier I am. Hmmm.....
I just looked at my profile to see when I joined up here, because I figured my one-year anniversary was coming up. Well, I joined Feb 1!
All I can say is, what a great thing it was to log in and join up. Great site and people. This place has made my last year (and 17 days).
Jose- It isn't that snowboard cross is strange. It was the specific thing that happened yesterday. A girl was in the clear for the Gold medal, nobody near her, and she did a little hotdog showboat move near the finish line, fell, and was passed by someone who was light years back.
Interesting about the Look of Love. That one I posted is called The SOUND of Love. Which sounds like a moaning woman.

Good morning all.
Not sure if I ever got around to sharing this, but my hardrive died a painful death last week. After getting a new one installed in my laptop (thank you, dad) I'm now attempting to rebuild my life on here. All of my important files and hundreds of pictures are gone and can't be replaced. But because I had all my music on my ipod, I can theoretically transfer all of it back on to the computer. If done wrong, however, it will delete all the files off of the ipod. But I've got to try...so here goes.
To all Oregon HHW folk, if you hear cries of anguish and pain from the north, don't worry, it'll just be me mourning the loss of 1000 song files, should I do this wrong.
Ann, I know exactly what you're going through! About two years ago, my computer completely died. I had two hardrives and both were lost. I, too, lost over 1000 MP3 files (and a couple of full-length movies ;))...and a ton of e-mails going back several years...and lots of pictures. I didn't have anything backed up. I didn't (and don't) have an iPod, or anything like it. I feel your pain!
Is this a slow news day or what?

DR Cillaliz - go for the area rug! It sounds like you're having a lot of fun putting your new home together.
And they say romance is dead...or is this cruising? ;)
Yep, definitely cruising. ;D
I see.... sorry. I meant Carmen... I did not notice I had misspelled it.
LOL... I have words for it that are not to put on the boards... They are not polite...
Or maybe something closer to "toast", light brown... Or even a green... Or...
*I'm just trying to figure out what will not clash with the floor tile in here - and the rest of the apartment. It's a vinyl flooring tile that the color of terra cotta - or something close to it. In other words, the floor already clashes with itself. :-\
Huzzah! All of my song files are back home where they belong...on my laptop. Here's hoping this new hardrive doesn't decide to go the way of the last one!
DR vixmom, I'll post a picture when the cake is finished. In the meantime, her is a link to take a look at...

Dinner is about to be prepared at Chez McMore and we are having...
TUNA GLOP!!! (remember those posts from earlier in the week thanks to DR Ginny?)
I'll let you know how Anthony likes it. When he saw the recipie he didn't run screaming from the room so that's a start.
I have no idea what a Heath Bar is - but nevertheless rolling in them does not sound such a bad thing!

WOW!!! I have no idea what your sister is making but I bet you win the cake contest with that!!!
(think a peice would survive through the mails?) ;D
I'm altering the recipe a bit and leaving out the hazelnut as my sister-in-law is allergic. I'm going to do some sort of decoration with white chocolate on top. Ah, the joys of living with a pastry chef... who is forbidden to help me in this endeavor, but can put his two cents in from the couch!
Ginny they now sell those broken Heath Bar Pieces for baking. I like them mixed into my Haagen-Dazs coffee ice cream.
We loved "The Constant Gardener" Michael. Great book. Great screenplay. Much food for thought.

DR Cillaliz - Thanks for the links and suggestions.
Today the Vixfamily went a browsing. We wandered through IKEA , stopped int he cafe and had swedish meatballs for lunch.
Then we wandered through BestBuy where the Vixter fell in love with a television the size of our garage door
Then a trip through Costco where we sampled pretzel sticks dipped in chiocolate and then rolled in crushed Heath bars.........
Sorry Dakota if my comment last night was unclear. I knew that you meant CARMEN. I guess what I didn't know was which melody was in the largo movement of CAMEN, or what the words could possibly have been. When I appeared in CARMEN, I believe that I was the lard-o, so, I don't know nothing about no largo
This morning I went for a walk and this is what I saw:
And this:
Those are cool pictures! Very clear.
Right now, I'm at work and listening to the Prague cast recording of Les Misérables. Man, do they have a lot of syllables...and very few vowels! ;) But I can "hear" their acting, mainly because I've had the original London cast recording since 1986 or so. Pretty good.
DR Tomovoz - Heath Bars (http://www.hersheys.com/products/details/heath.asp) used to be made in Robinson, Illinois. My aunt was married to a man who'd grown up there and his mother would send "factory seconds," broken, odd-shaped pieces of the toffee, double-dipped in chocolate. A yummy childhood memory.
Rodzinski HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 17 days late.
DakotaCelt it has been a fun month since you joined us.
This afternoon I looked outside in my front yard and this is what I saw:
AHHHH FOOD 911 !!!!!Here in Arizona, those green chiles are the mild ones.
I made some Chili. Well it's Midwestern style, i.e. I don't want it hot spicy. I had a can of diced tomatoes with green chilis and threw it in...mistake. It's too hot. What can I add to tone down the heat?
Well, it's a whopping 1 degree outside. I've decided that I'm going to stay home and cook something. I'll have to see what's in the cupboard and maybe invent something.
DR Cilla, Friday Morning we were at -22 wiht a -55 windchill...
Ginny, Tuna Glop was a success and Anthony is still talking to you (or will when you arrive in October). There is enough to have some for lunch tomorrow.
.
It has been fun DR Jane. There are many sparkling personalities on this board...
I am working on trying to figure out TCB...He is an engima... ;D

Ah yes, an enigma wrapped up in a crumb cake.
Ditto. Today is my two year anniversary.
Ben, I guess we will just have to take your word for it that Anthony survived the Glop. Apparently, there are no other living witnesses.
Been there, done that...you can have it ;D
Ah yes, an enigma wrapped up in a crumb cake.
You deserve a crumb cake to celebrate!! ;)
This frightens me:
I immediately put in another Miss Marple with Joan Hickson, one of my absolute favorites, A CARIBBEAN MYSTERY. I always enjoyed the CBS/Helen Hayes version of the book until I saw this one. It's markedly superior in every respect.
I also like Joan Hickson's Miss Marple better than Helen Hayes. Miss Hayes does a great job but for some reason I also prefer Hickson.
Well, Helen's the right age and the right type for Miss Marple, but she didn't attempt much of a British accent in her two Marple films, and she didn't have the terrific scripts (very true to the books) that Hickson enjoyed. The CBS/Hayes Marple films didn't have the luxury of running time that Hickson's Marple films - spread over two or three one hour installments -enjoyed either.
That is very true and it perhaps one reason I enjoy the British stuff much better.
Have you ever seen the Campion mysteries MattH?
DR Rodz, I will give you my lovely -25 windchill.....
No dice, Dakota! I'll stick with my local wind chill!
Be sure to stick around. We enjoy you, and a month will become a year before you know it!
Funny you should mention that. I haven't been inside the actual studios, but today, one of TPunk's friends we drove to LI with, his dad is the prop manager for all the NY ABC soaps. If they need a lamp or whatever, or have to buy a prop they don't already have, this guy's dad picks it out.
Not that that helps you at all, but it's sorta interesting.
DR Cillaliz - It's very hard to temper the spicy-heat of chiles in chili by adding something to it. However, you can temper the heat by serving it with something - preferably a dairy product: cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese, etc. -Or even a glass of milk (or vanilla milkshake) for your beverage.
Some people try to "distract" the heat by adding other spices such as cinnamon, cocoa, oregano... or even a spoonful of sugar.
Some "heat" will dissipate if you let it sit, but sometimes, the heat level can actually get stronger depending on the chiles.
Now... If you've made a chili with beans, you could just add another can of beans. And add some more meat too. In other words, just double the batch after the fact. ;)
Oh, and serving the chili over rice and/or with corn bread will help too.
If there's a scene in a laundromat, sure, François! Often happens. :)
Perhaps the Bubbler of Seville?
Perhaps the Bubbler of Seville?
"Is there a rivalry between North and South Dakotans"
Yes! South D. has the nuclear weapon, and that ALSO bothers the White House!
Is it because the Bubbler did it?!
We should ask Agatha! ;)
Since I've only met one Dakota person before and that was years ago, I have some questions maybe you can answer.
I notice N. Dakota sort of is lumped in often with Minnesota, as above. Why Minnesota and not South Dakota?
Are there climate differences between the two Dakotas?
Are there "personality" differences between the two states? One more conservative or one more friendly, etc?
Is there a rivalry between North and South Dakotans?
I ask because the two states are mysterious to me. I don't hear alot about them. Most of the time, if you hear anything about them they are mentioned as a pair, like there is no difference between them.
I will now list everything I know about North and South Dakota:
Two states.
Fargo is the capital of N. Dakota.
Tom Brokaw is from one of the states.
Mount Rushmore is in one of them.
The Sioux Indians were/are there.
The Fighting Sioux of UND or NDSU have a good college hockey team.
NDSU has recently begun competing in Div. I basketball.
Pierre is the capital of S. Dakota. Or is it Bismarck? Maybe Bismarck is North and Fargo is not a capital?
Black Hills. There are Black Hills there.
That's all I have. Teach at your leisure and forgive my woeful ignorance.
That joke fell with a thud.
Or was it suds???
States I Have Not Been To, by Rodzinski:
Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Minnesota.
Not certain about Missouri.
Better suds than skuds!
Crepes are chilling with their buttercream layers, chocolate glaze is cooling. In about 20 minutes, I'm going to glaze the pile of crepes. This has been some undertaking, and the DP is just sitting there like so much fish like he's suppose to, but he doesn't miss a chance to be sure I'm cleaning up. I like to have a great time creating in the kitchen, he doesn't always see it that way.
I have a feeling the finished product is not going to look at all like Martha's. It certainly isn't as tall, and it looks a bit crooked. Oh well, it's still a pile of crepes with buttercream and chocolate, what can go wrong?
Thanks a million, DakotaCelt. I could have done my own online research, but I wanted an insider's viewpoint. Hey, I kinda corrected myself on the Bismarck thing. You gotta give me a little credit for that!
British territory? That is interesting. Although the Brits did have Canada. You're right though. Not something you hear about.
BK, wonder what's gotten hold of the energy. Are the houses not lively enough, and the early-in-the-run giddiness is no longer around to carry the day?
Funny you should mention that. I haven't been inside the actual studios, but today, one of TPunk's friends we drove to LI with, his dad is the prop manager for all the NY ABC soaps. If they need a lamp or whatever, or have to buy a prop they don't already have, this guy's dad picks it out.
Not that that helps you at all, but it's sorta interesting.
The audiences have been terrific. Part of the problem is the space itself, which is somewhat deceptive for the actors - they think they're having vocal energy but they're not. It's not a huge deal, but, for example, when they're playing a scene upstage, or seated on the sofa, there are many times when they just start talking as if they were in a real living room, which doesn't work in this theater. I've taken to calling those performances "the living room play". I don't want them to overdo it, I just need the vocal energy up and not "whispery" because low vocal energy and "whispery" doesn't cut it in this space. Matt is fairly consistent and fine, but if Tammy goes to the low vocal energy place then Matt has to adjust to it or he'll seem too big - for weeks I've been trying to get Tammy to be self-aware and realize when it's happening. If she feels she's not at Matt's vocal level, she needs to make that adjustment immediately - she can't go on or he has to go DOWN to her energy, which isn't good. Again, I don't think these are things the audiences really notice, but it does make a difference in how the show ultimately connects with the audience.
I see so it's more about vocal control than performance energy. It's a tough one. The space I've done most stuff in here is a terrible space, a big old ballroom basically that eats up sound, and I have to tell people, look, you have to be louder here than you want to be. And you get people who want to do nuanced performances, understandably, but the bottom line is, if nobody hears you, your performance doesn't mean anything.

I headed for the hills, the Black Hills of Dakota
I sure was glad to get out of there alive...
"Day of the Locusts" by Bob Dylan
Cake is "glazed" it looks really lopsided, I'm hoping to fix that with some sort of illusion thing tomorrow. LOL
DR George - thank you for the info about the Scarlatti sacred CD. I've tried to find it at the library where I work and the public library here where we live and through M. O. R .E . (a clunky online resource sharing initiative - Moving Ohio's Resources Everywhere), all to no avail. Maybe I'll have to order it online.
Does your library have a Interlibrary Loan department that could request it from libraries around the country? They might even get it from the library where I work! Or I could make you a copy. (shhhhh...don't tell anyone! ;))

When I was on my one and only "bus and truck" tour - Anything Goes - in the span of just over two months we drove through all but five of the continental United States! Across Texas three times!?!!? UGH! We started in Logan, UT, and ended in Red Bank, NJ.
The states we did not traverse were: Washington, Oregon, California, Florida and Maine.
Thankfully - and miraculously - all of us on the bus liked each other.
And we even drove through the Badlands... Parts of which reminded me of a Martian landscape... Very cool.
