GLAXOSMITHKLINE RECALLS H1N1 VACCINE IN CANADA OVER 'LIFE-THREATENING' ALLERGY RISK

LONDON —  The pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline says it has advised medical staff in Canada to not use one batch of swine flu vaccine for fear it may trigger life-threatening allergies.

GlaxoSmithKline spokeswoman Gwenan White said Tuesday the company issued the advice after reports that one batch of the swine flu vaccine might have caused more allergic reactions than normal.

She says the affected batch contains 172,000 doses of the vaccine. She declined to say how many doses had been administered before the advice to stop using them was given.

White says GlaxoSmithKline wrote to Canadian healthcare professionals advising them to stop using the batch on Nov. 18. She says a total of 7.5 million doses of the vaccine have been distributed in Canada.

At least it isn't Ciribiribin, DR ELMORE.

I would know exactly what to do with that one! The hard part is when they give you a song one day with a recording of something completely different, say arrange it along these lines and expect a finished product ASAP. Sometimes it's nice to have 2-4 days to ponder it and try out various ideas, to let it simmer on the back burner while you prepare other parts of the meal. I use a cooking metaphor a lot.

So, it took me an hour and a half of writing to do 30 new bars of piano-vocal to set the piece up to where it can be attached to the old piano-vocal arrangement at m. 17 of the old arrangement. I had from yesterday afternoon to think about this, and it went rather smoothly.  If I'd had 2 more days, I could have sat at the piano and tried out other ideas. Tempus fugits and I'm out of time, so we'll see how it goes.

The travel reports have been lots of fun, Tom.  However, you don't need to continue them once you're back in Tacoma.  :)

Okay, Jeffrey,  I will try my best not to post anymore.

I never feel under-appreciated but I do dislike it when others take credit for the work I've done, and that hapens far too often.

Although it may look like I've been sitting here like so much fish, I've actually been dusting and vacuuming and shoveling out clutter all day.  It's beginning to look a lot like Thanksgiving around here.

Where is DR JOSE today?

I'm here! I'm here!

The breakfast meeting I was supposed to have last week was rescheduled for this morning, so... Actually, it was not really a meeting, just a chance to talk and catch up with someone I work with without any "work" to get in the way of the conversation.  All in all, it was a very nice way to start the day.

*And even though the skies were gray and cloudy when I left my apartment this morning, they cleared up nicely by the time we left the diner.

Then it was down to Chelsea Barber to get my hairs cut. Thankfully, my timing was pretty good.  I only had to wait about 15 minutes for a free chair, I managed to get Max too - although, my other favorite barber, Alex, was also there this afternoon, but his client asked for a shave after his haircut, so...

*And since I had checked the lottery tickets I bought the other night before I headed downtown and found out that I had won - a whopping $44! - my haircut was basically "free".  :)

DRs TCB, FJL, Ben & JRand for the Family Vibes and concern.  I think everything will be all right, but, most likely, a little awkward for a few minutes (I hope for just a few minutes).  I've talked with my brothers and they're not that concerned about any of "it", so...  In any case...

I'm really looking forward to seeing my nieces and nephew - Alexandra, Alyssa, Emily and John Michael - later this week.  I saw Alexandra the last time I was down in Fairfax, but, sadly, I don't think I've seen John Michael, Alyssa and Emily (who is also my god-daughter) since August, my birthday.  Seems too long.

TOD:

My favorite movie would be THE MUPPET MOVIE.
Ditto!!

My favorite Henson non-Muppet project would have to be EMMET OTTER'S JUGBAND CHRISTMAS.
Ditto!!

TOD:

My favorite film wth Henson creations is the wonderful Dennis Potter film DREAMCHILD, which has woefully never been made avalable as a DVD.

Larry, there's not release date, but is THIS the DREAMCHILD to which you're referring?

Back inside for a break.  It was a lovely morning.  I did laps in the beautiful pool for two hours, and then found a nice chaise to dry off on.  Had some lunch, and now catching up on emails, phone calls, etc.  Helped my father set up this new giant telescope that someone gave him.  We set it u0p on one of the terraces faceng the ocean, and we've been usin it to get a good close up look oif cruise ships going in and out of the local harbors in Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
I don't think it reaches far enough to see DR TCB's ship, though.

Jose - I am glad that the family issue sounds like it will be manageable.
Once everyone is all together, you will all hopefully be able to enjoy being together as a family for the holiday.  It is very special to be able to do that.

As for yesterday's Topic of the Day...

I remember catching the re-release of "House of Wax" at the Arlington Cinema & Draft House when I was in high school.  -I just had soda, not beer, with my pizza and movie.

I know I must have seen another 3-D movie before then, but no exact titles come to mind.

I've always liked all the 3-D "rides" at Disney World and Universal Studios, with the "Muppet*Vision 3D4D" being my favorite.  -Which leads me to...

So tonight we shall head into downtown Miami Beach for dinner at a nice Italian restaurant.

After that, we shall go to the Miami Arts Center to see the Florida Grand Opera.
The performance tonight is a double header -- Pagliacci, and Suor Angelica.  I really like both of them, and they are rarely performed together.  Most oftern, Pagliacci is paired with Cavalleria Rusticana, and Suor Angelica is part of Il Trittico.  So I don't know why they though to put them together this way, but I'm really looking forward to it.

I just reviewed IL TRITTICO for Blu-ray.com.  Puccini did not like these one acts to be removed from the triptych, but Suor Angelica was his self-professed favorite.

That's a more common pairing now for some opera companies.  It allows them to hire a "star tenor" (for Pag) and a "star soprano" (for Suor).

Although, it makes for quite a tragic evening at the opera.

*I'll have to check, but I think I have some friends down there right now for that double-bill.  Hmmm...
