As for Snow Leopard...

I'll probably upgrade/install it next week. My Mac Genii friends have been giving it a spin over the past week or so, and have been raving about it. However, they have been finding/experiencing some of the glitches that David Pogue came across in his testing - mainly having to do with some programs not being fully-compatible with Snow Leopard (yet).

If you have the $30 to spare, there's nothing wrong with upgrading. And there's nothing wrong with not upgrading now. The streamlining of the OS seems geared towards people who do a lot(!) of web browsing and media work on their Macs. So, if you're just a "basic user", there's nothing wrong with continuing to use Leopard.

As for Snow Leopard - Part Deux...

DR elmore - I think you only have Mac OS X Tiger on your system - at least that's what I seem to remember when we updated Safari on your computer. To qualify for the for the $30 upgrade, you need Mac OS X Leopard on your system. Consequently, your upgrade would cost $170. But I could be misremembering.

Additionally, as David Pogue mentions in his column, Snow Leopard only work on newer Macs with Intel chips. -I won't be able to upgrade my spare iBook.

Everyone I talked to on the trail today said they were a bit jumpy at sounds-lol.

I saw the scat on my way out, and shortly after a group mentioned they saw some I had missed earlier. Not long after spying in the scat I heard noises in the woods. I know from experience the sounds were not loud enough to be a bear, and that area tends to make creaking sounds, still I turned around and ran out of there. Nothing like following the directions that say DON'T RUN.

I figured it was too late since I was already jogging when I heard the noises. Fortunately I had Sherlock attached to the leash right then.

Last night I watched THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT on TCM, a strange little Warner Brothers' flick that starts out as a buddy movie with George Raft and Humphrey Bogart but then turns into a potboiler once Ida Lupino enters the scene. Retreat downwind, hmmm I don't think I will have an option which way I go, or know if I'm downwind unless the wind is blowing. That is only if the bear hasn't seen me. I greatly suspect if I see the bear, it will have seen me. In that case I should speak calmly & go upwind so the bear knows I'm a human. I'm also to wave my arms to identify I'm human.

I've shipped a bunch of packages, picked up more shipping boxes and the new Adam 12 box set, got a Subway sandwich, and just watched episode ten of Lost, Season Five - boy did this episode go to Alias-land - right down to the standard ol' "intel" line - like they used that word in that way in the 1970s (they didn't). But it was a pretty good episode and I like the kid who plays Ben as a youngster.

I am back from a reading I almost cancelled because of all the craziness of today and I am so glad I went: TIME AFTER TIME, book and lyrics by Stephen Cole and music by Jeff Saver, based on the book by Karl Alexander. I had a couple of friends in the show, Matt Bogart as Jack the Ripper, and Lauren Kennedy as Amy, the role played by Mary Steenburgen in the film. H.G. Wells was played by an actor whose work I'd never seen before, Andy Karl, and he had the same goofiness, charm, and fish-out-of-water quality of Malcolm MacDowell. I said to him after the reading, I have never seen your work before and now I'm your biggest fan." The show is getting a Pittsburgh Playhouse(?)-Point Park College production in 2010 and I wish it a long life beyond that.

You should consider him, BK, for the NY reading of FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL.
