Well, you've read the notes, you know the magic number is 190,000, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're rehearsing for a revival of Whoop Up! right now.

Libation? I'm sure that most dinner parties that will be discussed will include much libation.  I don't partake, myself, but I wouldn't prevent anyone else from enjoying.

As for the Topic of the Day Dinner Parties (assuming I had all the money that I'd need), I'd like to have an official round-the-world HHW event...fly every HHW poster to some place exotic, where no one's been and party like there's no tomorrow.  I'd hire a world class caterer/party planner to take care of all the details because if it were left to me, I'd just order pizza. ::) I don't think that that would be special enough for a special HHW party. ;D

I've received an e-mail asking me the derivation of the expression, "Divoon" which we use here a lot at haineshisway.com.  My memory is that it's from one of the Frank Tashlin Jayne Mansfield films - anyone remember?

I first heard it in the movie GREASE, so they were probably referencing a term from the fifties, which indeed could've been a Tashlin-Mansfield film.

I guess the charcaters will be having quite a few libations in the all-live LORD OF THE RINGS.

Have I mentioned I'll be E&T (Entertained and Traveled) today, seeing LORD OF THE RINGS in Toronto?

Oh, that's right, I have mentioned it.  :)

I haven't seen Charlotte Rae in anything since I saw 70, GIRLS, 70 at the El Portal several years ago.  Looking forward to the Encores show, and especially Rodzinski's Playbill.

Have a great day, all.

Well Jayne said that immortal line in WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER? in describing Tony Randall's character to her fiance' on the telephone.  Her translations of what Randall was saying are priceless and so DIVOON may have been a creation of George Axelrod, but Jayne did appropriate it and make it part of her own vernacular.

Good morning, all!  I slept very late, I've been catching up on last night's posts, and voila!

I have nothing to report.  I may see our DR Jose later today, but for the nonce, I have work on Toyland and some band parts to occupy my time.

TOD:  It would all depend on the event
Orchestrator night:  Otto Langey, Frank Saddler, Harold Sanford, Philip J. Lang, Robert Russell Bennett
Musical Theatre night:  Victor Herbert, Jerome Kern, Jerome Moross,
Frank Loesser, Richard Rodgers

Well - like DR GEORGE a meeting of the HHW'ers would be fascinating....but ....hmmm

Present company excepted, my idea of a nice dinner party would include:

Harlan Ellison, Stephen Sondheim, Illeana Douglas, Rita Moreno, and Betsy Palmer.

And Carroll Baker.

Allison Hayes, John Agar, Shelley Winters, Troy Donahue, and Henry Willson.

And Frances Farmer. 8)

Continuing the discussion from last night:

Di$ney is all about money and control.  Ask Annette Joanne Funicello - her family sued Disney in 1959 saying that at the time they signed Annette's first contract for the MMC they were not represented by an agent and did not have the advantage of professional advice.  They wanted a raise for Annette (the only original Mouse to remain under contract) and better future terms.

They lost.  Annette was under contract for ALL activity to Disney Studios until early 1964, earning for ALL her years and work there a total of $250,000.  Most of that came in her last year when Disney voluntarily gave her a raise to $1500 per week with a 40 week guarantee.  By then she was represented by Jack Gilardi, the man she eventually married.

DR JRand55, if you're having Henry Willson to dinner, DR MBarnum better be invited so he can learn how many of Mr Willson's clients were "gifted."

Good morning!

Pretty nice day so far though it's cooling down and will only be in the mid 50s today. How quickly we get spoiled by 60-70 degree weather only to have it taken away for awhile longer.

Last week, I bought a two liter bottle of Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke.

I was not a fan at all of Diet Vanilla Coke (vanilla flavoring was way too strong), but this black cherry vanilla is better. The two flavors are rather balanced and thus one doesn't overpower the other. I did buy another bottle of it this week, but only as an alternative to regular Diet Coke which continues to be a mainstay here.

Very true, DRELMORE.  But I didn't want to mix my HHW'ers with my civilians.  ;D

And I don't have a table big enough for everyone HERE that I would be invited.   ;D  Just choosing 4, 6, or 8 HHW'ers would be impossible.

DR DakotaCelt, I read this morning that a favorite movie you mentioned the other night - CHEYENNE AUTUMN - is being released June 6th, so that will give you something to look forward to.

Warners is doing two John Ford boxes in June was well. One is a big John Ford-John Wayne box with new versions of THE SEARCHERS, STAGECOACH, and their other films together which Warners controls the rights to. The other will be a Ford box with such films as CHEYENNE AUTUMN and MARY OF SCOTLAND among others.

For Ford and Wayne fans, sounds like heaven.

For dinner parties, I'd do a theater based dinner with folks like Stephen Sondheim, John Kander, and Harvey Schmidt. (Only three guests so the party doesn't get too big).

I'd do a movie based one with George Clooney, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Robbins.

I'd do a TV producer based one with Marc Cherry, Joss Whedon, and J. J. Abrams.

As for what I'd serve, I'd have to find out if any were vegetarians. If not, definitely something rich and caloric like beef stroganoff, asparagus with hollandaise, and chocolate cheesecake for dessert.

Before I put HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE on the shelf with the other ones, I'm going back through the film again and should be finished with it today. Then, I'd like to settle in tonight with the remaining three FIREFLY episodes which I haven't yet seen. That will finish up that boxed set.

I got MURDER SHE WROTE season 3 in the mail the other day, so I may start with it or get back to ANGEL season 3, but this will likely be tomorrow.

My dinner party... I would have President Bush and Dick Cheney, my public policy professor from last semester, 10 out of the millions of children who are currently suffering from poverty and malnutrition, and Angelina Jolie (because she demonstrates a level of social awareness, and also because she is outrageous and hot and I think she's great)

Bush and Cheney would have to eat mayonaise sandwiches and/or maybe split a pack of ramen noodles between the two of them, representing what most families subsisting on food stamps have left at the end of the month.  Everyone else gets the same dinner served the inauguration ball.
