And, as if today weren't depressing enough, we have just returned from a funeral home memorial service for a retired teacher friend.  She was a few months younger than Richard and died Sunday of a rare type of cancer.

Happy Anniversary to Bruce and all the HHWers!!

Ditto from me!
I am not feeling social today, and I had a nasty FB surprise I cannot make sense of concerning my "liking" the post of someone I'd unfriended months ago.  I didn't "like" the ppstt today, so who the hell liked it for me and how did I end up there?

This is odd.  Were you able to remove the "like"?

Thank you, DR Jane.  Richard knew her better than I did, but I often ran into her at Kroger.  She was always about to leave on a trip or just back from one.  Last one I remember hearing about was Iceland.

I just realized that next Saturday (the 19th) is the 15th anniversary of one of my staff working here at the library.  I sent a card around and on 5-year anniversaries, people also get a beautiful hand-made natural wood box.

Just had to share. :)

And now, I must be off to rehearsal.  We're running most of act two, and I'm only in the first or second scene of act two, so if they don't go back to do my scene after running the entire second act once through, I should be able to leave early.

Either way, I'll be back later.

Taking a break - trying to think of more stuff to talk about in the commentary.  Have taken a break from the marvelous Malcolm Arnold and over over to Leonard Bernstein - I had a box set I'd never even opened - a 10-CD Bernstein Conducts Bernstein set with the original Jacket art in mini-LP sleeves.  I really love so much of his music - but I truly LOVE hist Columbia album of Dances from West Side Story, the Csndide Overture, and the On the Waterfront suite.  Sound is classic Columbia stereo.  I don't know if these were remastered, but it sounds good to me.

I continue with Mr. Bernstein - on to the Jeremiah symphony no. 1, which I really like, then Symphony No. 2, The Age of Anxiety, which I REALLY love a lot.  First the stereo longer version he revised for pianist Phillippe Entremont - in the final movement of the original version the pianist literally plays nothing until the final bar.  Bernstein added about two minutes to that final movement for Entremont.  It's a lovely performance, but it's followed by Bernstein's original recording from the early 50s, in mono, with Lukas Foss at the piano - that performance, despite the mono sound, is absolutely fierce and brilliant.  Nice to have them both, I must say.

I have literally done nothing but type up notes for tomorrow and listen to music, other than have my sandwich and a cupcake.  I'm actually kind of hungry right now, since I ate at noon - maybe I'll mosey on over to Gelson's and get something to nibble on.

One of these fine days Kritzerland is going to do a mini-LP cover release.  I've wanted to ever since we began and almost did for The Brain cast album.  But you had to print in Japan - no one here did them - NOW they do, NOW they're suddenly popular.  So, we're looking for the right release to try it.  Or maybe I'll do a special mini-LP pressing of something older, like The Brain or something we own.  Would that be of interest to anyone?
