This morning I arrived at the doctor's office 15 minutes early, armed with volume 4 of Proust and the inevitable 90-minute wait. Perhaps because it was a CAT scan, and not a visit to an actual doctor, I didn't even get a chance to sit down. They had me in and out in under 15 minutes.

Rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.

Don't the Kardashians live in Calabasas?

TOD:

We had a recording of Rhapsody in Blue.....it was on RCA, but I do not remember who recorded it.  I enjoyed playing it very much.

I also liked "Shall We Dance" a lot - watched it 10 times in one week when I was about 10 years old.....the songs were magic....and about the 4th time I noticed the Gershwin name and connected the dots.....

My two favorite songs will always be:
"They Can't Take that Away From Me" and "They All Laughed".

Although my ALL TIME favorite Astaire/Rogers song and dance will always be "Pic Yourself Up" by Kern & Fields.....

Monday morning greetings...

DR GINNY I watched a bit of the Michigan vs Ohio State football game on Saturday.....there was a LOT of poor sportsmanship on display....

Yeah, well, all that kind of takes a back seat to the story unfolding in Columbus right now.

My eyes are a mess.  I am now a mild glaucoma patient, which pisses me off, and i am on another medication.

Traffic around Trump Tower was nil, and i was there 30 minutes early, but I'm happier early than late.

I'm up, I'm up - forgot it was replacing the back fence day and so the doorbell rang at eight - five hours of sleep - not enough.

Here is some info for elmore.  That production of Strike Up the Band was done in 1988 at the Pasadena Civic (also played the Music Center and in Orange County) and directed by the ASS known as Gary Davis and the ubiquitous Randy Skinner was choreopraher.  It had Bosley, Avery Schreiber, Fay De Witt, Donny Most (as Donald), the Wards, Roxan Parker and Michael Magnusen as the romantics, Bobby Herbeck, with musical direction by the then ubiquitous Steven Smith.

Has anybody heard the score for Waitress? I know KevinH saw the show.

I got the OBC recording from the library recently and gave it three tries before giving up on it. Aural wallpaper but without that much character.

Am I missing something? Other than melody, that is.

Finished with the Villa-Lobos symphonies - so enjoyable.  Now listening to Stokowski conducting Debussy's Iberia.  While I admire Debussy, for me he's no Ravel.

Thank you, BK!  Gary Davis was a complete horror.  I loathed him.

I had seen Roxann Parker several years earlier as Ilona in the Equity Library Theatre's beautiful production of She Loves Me, which was far superior to hte later Roundabout revival.  She later married a gentleman whose daughter worked briefly with me at Barnes and Noble/ Michael Magnusen was a talented young man, and I believe he was an AIDS victim.  I have no memory at all of Bobby Herbeck, and I have a vague memory of Steven Smith's driving me back to my LA hotel (several blocks from the Mark Taper) from Pasadena. I was not fond of Mr Smith or Mr Davis.  I loved Fay deWitt.  She was a nice lady.

I wouldn't mind seeing Waitress, but the song on the Tony Awards didn't make me want to rushg and see it.

I would agree about Debussy.

That's a very nice picture, John!

I can't remember exactly when I first heard of Gershwin, but when I was going to Centralia College (a 2-year college in Centralia, Washington) while living at home, I took a vocal performance workshop here in Olympia and one of the other participants, an older woman, sang "They Can't Take that Away From Me."  That was the first time that I had heard of and heard the song.

Had a dream about preparation for a show that I was only superficially involved with; a Dali-ish drooping laptop or iPad that wasn't functioning properly and was also in need of a good cleaning; the laying out of food or snack items; and a female music director friend who had put on about a hundred pounds and shaved her head, but kept putting on an ill-fitting wig.  This was all in one dream.

It's good to be awake.

I am glad that was a dream and not reality ;D
