DR Matt H, the boys are on OLTL today. All hell is breaking loose for the February sweeps.
And the word of the day is: DALTONISM!
I was so appalled by that CAMELOT that was on PBS a year or so ago, that I can't even think about the show anymore. Hopefully MR BK's Mordred was not a gay leather queen.....

Is anybody else going to a Super Bowl party and what are you making?

VCR: lordy!

And The Song Of The Day Is: I USED TO BE COLOR BLIND
I would rather eat ground glass than sit through a Super Bowl game.
Sorry, I just find football and the attendant worship of a stupid f*****g game played with a leather ball to be all out of proportion to reality.
Last night I finally got to watch PINKY which I recorded from TCM the other night. I found it a trifle slow-going--Jeanne Crain doesn't exactly light up the screen for me.
I had to LOL at a story Robert Osbourne told about how imperious Ethel Barrymore was towards director Elia Kazan. When Kazan told Barrymore that he wanted to do another take of a scene, she said "Why? What do you want it for? Your collection?"
BK, what's happening with Mystery & Imagination Bookstore? I'm distressed to hear they are having troubles. One of the last great independent bookstores around.

I watched "The Uninvited" yesterday evening and recorded it onto DVD-R as a I watched.
It has been YEARS since I last saw it and I had forgotten how large a part Gail Russell played in it. It's quite a fun film for me to watch.
And Cornelia Otis Skinner was QUITE the Sapphic nightmare as Miss Holloway. How FUN was she!!??!!
I must confess I love it most of all for the terrific Victor Young score...particularly that main theme. At times, it seems at odds with what is being portrayed on screen. For its time (1944), it certainly wasn't the "typical" ghost story/mystery score.
Greetings from Toyland! The appointment lasted forever but the Dr does not think Ihave any rheumatoid problems. Curly and Moe, the lab workers, could not find a vein on Larry that worked; I was ounctured many times for a lot of blood. It took forever and Larry was not amused by the other Stooges.

They have been having problems for quite awhile. Too bad, because they are very nice people.

Druxy, Malcolm and Christine are delightful people and they helped built my book collection over the years. Alas, their problems in that business are not unique. Every time I return to London, it seems another independent bookseller has bit the dust. A section of Charing Cross Road that once was nothing but bookstores is now littered with coffee shops and American food franchises. Why does the street need another Starbucks or Quiznos if there is no reason to go down it to any interesting shops?
Yesterday afternoon I booked myself a room at the Hampton Inn in Amherst for two nights.

Larry, I feel your pain (literally). I also have had horrible phlebotomists, so many in fact that I kind of have a Pavlovian response now whenever I have to be "pricked" (not a euphemism). The funny thing is the last several times I've had blood drawn or an IV inserted, they've gotten it on the first try. It still freaks me out. :)
Thanks for the insurance company vibes, all! One of their reasons for the denial was that I "declined to learn medication therapy that can be taught to a non-skilled patient or caregiver." Yes, I did turn my nose up at the idea of giving myself injections in my stomach - who wouldn't?
I'm listening to the Studio Recording of Showboat with Miss cook and Mr. Raitt. It may not be definitive but it holds a place in my heart because it was one of the first recordings of Showboat I ever heard and being an acolyte in the Church of Barbara Cook I love to hear her sing these tunes.

Ben, I'm with you there! I'll be finding other activities to pass the time.

Larry, I personally think it's definitely "her switch was" for the first three words, which, per my post yesterday, makes sense for a farmgirl. I need to really look at that fourth word, though.

The fourth word, I'm convinced is "so," but then what the hell does "her switch was so full of hay" mean? What's a switch?
Wow, I looked at it and I'm surprised you got that much. It's almost indecipherable to me and that's with zooming in!

Funny, I thought a switch referred to her hair, but then what is a farm girl doing wearing a hair piece?
Thank you all who helped decipher the lyrics. It's greatly appreciated. The winner of the new lyrics for "Evaline McCook" will get a sparkling prize.

Could that second word be "mouth"?
Jeanne Crain was lovely but not a compelling actress even in films she received good reviews or, in this case, an Oscar-nomination for.
DIVA TALK: Chatting with She Loves Me Tony Nominee and Good Ol' Girls Star Sally Mayes (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/136590-DIVA-TALK-Chatting-with-She-Loves-Me-Tony-Nominee-and-Good-Ol-Girls-Star-Sally-Mayes)
From the second page:
Question: Any chance of another CD?
Mayes: Well, we've been talking about it a little bit. I have to find a label that wants to do it, because all of my labels seem to be kaput. I want to do a Christmas album before I hang up my vocal chords. [Laughs.] I think that would be really, really fun. Patrick Brady is my genius arranger and partner in all of the stuff we've done all of these years. We have so much fun. We're always coming up with ideas for Christmas stuff and going, "When we do the Christmas album…" [Laughs.]
And then she goes on from there.

I just posted about that. In 1900, every woman had switches and pads of rags under their hair to achieve those big do's.
Not only am I not going to a Super Bowl party, I won't be watching the Super Bowl either.
Yes I am Laura :)

Maybe she used hay instead of rags?
DR JMK - on Encore Drama, WILL THERE REALLY BE A MORNING is in rotation this month - I thought so, but I wasn't sure. It was on twice today, and maybe even a third time later.
It does not improve with repeated viewings. I don't know how Dalene Young got her teleplay from Frances' book - she obviously didn't - and it's creepy that every account of Frances life always spends two hours on Hollywood and Seattle and gives Indianapolis a postscript.
Welcome twelve GUESTS.
Still watching Lost and am always amazed by the number and length of the commercial breaks.

You know when you record it you can fast forward through those. ;D
I am quite impressed that many of the guys will be preparing their dishes. A few will be buying their stuff. But at least 2 of the guys will be making homemade dishes!
Not only am I not going to a Super Bowl party, I won't be watching the Super Bowl either.
If the half-time show had Curt Colfer leading both teams in a rousing rendition of "Singlegirls", might you tune in?

I almost posted the same thing. But then figured he must be fast forwarding through them.
It's funny but Whoopi Goldberg had a similar rant saying there were so many commercials. She said she wanted to watch the show live.
But I don't really get that. I watched it when it was on. I just started 20 minutes after it started. So i basically just watched the show. No commercials. No waiting.
I also just saw that I made a typo in my original posting about the Superbowl. I didn't catch it until this go round. I think I will leave and see if anyone else notices it.

I can't wait to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, and all the hype that goes along with it. It is one of the big television events that I watch faithfully every year. The others are probaly The Oscars and The Tony Awards.
Kevin, thanks for the report. My son in MD now has a contract job. I just wrote to see if he has been getting to work. He has to drive some famously horribly dangerous road to get there. Not what a mother wants to hear!
Time for me to leave home and watch "Ghost Whisperer" and "Medium"...first (and second). Then, I'll start watching other shows that are on my DVR. That will pretty much be my weekend: clear off the DVR. :D
Until later!
Jose - no rumbling and I must say it was sold out last night - although some of that may have been paper. For lunch - the California Market Salad.

Do you really think that the Playhouse will be closed for good?
I see that Universal will be releasing a Barbara Stanwyck box in April that contains one of my all-time favorite performances of hers: ALL I DESIRE (directed by DOuglas Sirk). Really looking forward to that release.
