But wait...

Be sure not to throw away those egg shells when making the baked french toast.  Give them a good rinse with warm water, then add them to the basket of your coffee maker with the coffee grinds.  They will help remove the bitterness.

But before I go...

Here's the proper recipe for the Sweet and Spicy Bacon:

1 1/2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
Rounded 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
Rounded 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 lb thick-cut bacon (12 slices)

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Stir together brown sugar, cayenne, and black pepper in a small bowl.

Arrange bacon slices in l layer on a large broiler pan and bake in middle of oven (or upper third of oven if baking with eggs) 20 minutes. Turn slices over and sprinkle evenly with spiced sugar. Continue baking until bacon is crisp and brown, 15 to 20 minutes more, then transfer to paper towels to drain.

And just to give credit where credit is due, here's the "base recipe" for the baked French toast from the November, 2000, issue of "Gourmet"

1 (13- to 14-inch-long) loaf of soft-crust supermarket Italian bread
1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted butter, softened
2 large eggs
1 2/3   cups whole milk
3 tablespoons sugar
Accompaniment: pure maple syrup

Cut 12 (1-inch-thick) diagonal slices from bread, reserving ends for another use.

Generously butter 1 side of each slice and arrange slices, buttered sides up, in 1 layer in a buttered 13- by 9- by 2-inch glass baking dish, squeezing them slightly to fit if necessary.

Whisk together eggs, milk, and 1/4 teaspoon salt until combined well, then pour evenly over bread. Chill, covered, until bread has absorbed all of custard, at least 1 hour and up to 1 day, depending on bread.

Preheat oven to 425°F.

Bring mixture to room temperature and sprinkle bread with sugar.

Bake, uncovered, in middle of oven until bread is puffed and top is golden, 20 to 25 minutes. Serve immediately.

Makes 6 servings.

*And I do highly recommend the addition of some cinnamon, and the blueberries and pecans, if so desired.

Well, I think I'm gonna try to get a few winks before the sun starts coming in through my windows.  Once that happens... I'll end up posting more recipes.  ;D

Goodnight.  Good Morning.

I like Tootsie. also -- Great film!  I do agree it is one of the last great comedies. IT is a hoot!

Isn't that strange, I couldn't agree more with what MR BK said in the notes about THE MUSIC MAN.  And all the posts are just making me want to see it right now, which I may!

HOWEVER - I hate TOOTSIE and find Mr Dustin Hoffman one of the most irritating and affected actors EVER!  I cannot watch him in anything while he "acts" and projects his "technique" and "cleverness" all over the screen.  I do not watch ANYTHING he is in.  I may miss some good movies, but I don't want to throw anything at the screen.

And this coming from someone who enjoys watching Allison Hayes AND Carroll Baker!

Dustin Hoffman does not exist to me....

It's a nice cripish morning outside.

I got up to get my paper.  Last week's Sunday paper was apparently too much of a temptation to one of the residents of this here condo....or....a visitor of one of the residents.

I, alone, did not get my paper last Sunday.  And I was determined to be out brighter and earlier than anyone else (except the paper delivery person).

You are still in bed, Jack, dreaming all this.

Not in human form.

The condo seems so diminished without the Christmas tree.

Sigh.

I can almost agree with JRand about Dustin Hoffman.

What put me off Hoffman was a few of his Oscar appearances...the ones where they pegged him to present this special award of that one.  His approach...his effusiveness...and his manner of deliverying original dialogue in an unrehearsed -- yet clearly rehearsed -- and annoying way really turned me off.

So, too, do some of his performances.

But not "Tootsie" which is a rare, virtually perfect film, from the script to the casting to the execution of virtually every aspect of its being.

I'm also very fond of Hoffman's work in "The Graduate" and "Little Big Man."

Happily -- and yes, it makes me HAPPY -- I am past the hunger that had me blaming Jose.

None of those added recipes he posted afer I went to bed remotely tempts me now.

Odd, to me, is how the thought of food repels me when I first wake up.

It only takes the smell of something cooking, though, to excite my taste buds and engage my hunger drive.

I see that JRand is still logged in...along with Elmore3003 -- Good Morning, Larry! -- and FJL pops in and out.

But I guess I'm just not drawing enough breath to let them work a post in edgewise.
