Well, you've read the notes, the notes had to do what the notes had to do, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently doing what they have to do.

Good morning. I didn't want to be awake this early.

Thanks for the come home vibes for the feral cat. The feral boys are quite old. I'm thinking he died of old age somewhere. I lost another one last year. I think this one showed up here in about 2001.

I saw the sad story that happened in Brooklyn on Andersoon Cooper last evening. Some insightful insights and commentary but nothing like you'd find on those two shows on Headline News.

Unfortunately they kept showing the same clips over and over again.

This awful story should keep CA on the front page. The two NY tabloids were ______ (I'm lost for a word to describe it)

Good morning, all! I think the Harry Potter craze has got to me; I can't remember if it factored into my last dream, which involved an office and people I actually know, but somehow I keep thinking Harry Potter and Hogwarts was involved. Perhaps it's all about Charlotte going to last night's midnight screening in Ann Arbor? Beats me. I do need to watch the DVD of the last movie before I see the final one this week.

The four things on today's agenda are Dr Buchholz the dermatologist at 10 am, a trip to the post office on the way there, a stop at Toyland to check out the security and to use the office scanner, and sendng my invoice for the past two weeks' work. After that, the day should be a breeze.  Yesterday, I got a request from Dublin for pdf fles of EILEEN material, so I asked them for a list of what numbers they would like me to send. So far, no response. They're beginning to irk me.

Speaking of irksome things, there are three gentlemen on the cast recording list i would be happy to see made into rugs - one a former poster on HHW from England, one from New Jersey who calls himself a critic and knows nothing, absolutely nothing, and a school teacher from Teaneck who reminds me of a rabid bulldog. I've also got one on Facebook, who thinks he's a director. I don't think so.

TOD:
   DVD: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part One; the final episodes of THE DUCHESS OF DUKE STREET, Bright Young Things
    CD:  Knickerbocker Holiday, Marie Galante, Seven Deadly Sins, Guy Haines, Music Man (London Cast), Strike Up The Band
    VCR: smut

Thanks to all for the CBTD vibes....we had a fine opening night.....the show is pretty ordinary with some bright spots....but the audience - all 188 of them....enjoyed it very much....and done by 10 o'clock!

We may sell out - which will be good for us!  My cousin Lita, the director, dedicated the show to my parents.  She used to spend a lot of time with us in the summer, and she loved being with so many kids at one time.  That was very sweet of her.

Whose translation of "The Count" are you listening to? Are the lesbians in it?

The only modern translation is Robin Buss' for Penguin Books and it now seems to be out of print. I just ordered a copy on Abebooks; it's like THE THREE MUSKETEERS; about every five years I want to reread them.

I remember that I liked it, and I look forward to reading it again. One of the characters in the novel is also the heroine of Offenbach's comic opera, La Perichole.

It's time to head to the post office.

In short...

We had a wonderful Opening Night performance. Great audience. Great energy in the house. And the cast, crew and orchestra were really at the their peak. -Our "Dream Curly" even ended up doing a triple pirouette in one place where he only had to do a double. ;)

The first party was very nice. It was held in the "The Library" which is one of the new spaces right off of the lobby of the theatre. There were some nice desserts - including some killer peach tarts - and drinks. Some speeches, lots of mingling and schmoozing, lot of congratulatory handshakes and hugs. Once the caterers started packing up everything around midnight, people started to make their way upstairs to the second party...

There were rumors that some "real food" had been seen in the kitchen: sandwiches, fried chicken, cheese platters, etc. Well...

The reality: hummus and pita chips, a vegetable tray, a big tray of chocolate chip cookies and another tray of peanut butter cookies. Oh, and some beer and wine.

...But it was a nice, low-key gathering for the staff of the theatre and the cast and crew of the show.

My sister-in-law and niece were supposed to attend last night's opening night performance. I hadn't heard from the all day, and finally called my sister-in-law around 5:00 and left a message. A few minutes later, she called back. It turns out that she had been at the doctors all day. And she will be seeing another doctor today, an oncologist, to have a biopsy done. She seemed very calm yesterday when I talked to her, but I'm sure any and all VIBES would be appreciated. Thank You.

BK, I never saw HONDO until last year when I picked up the DVD.  While the plot ultimately is somewhat routine, what makes the movie is the richness of the character, particularly the John Wayne's loner Hondo.  Some terrific work by Wayne and the rest of the cast.

DR DRuxy, I remember seeing THE RISE AND FALL OF LEGS DIAMOND many, many years ago, although I recall almost nothing about it except that I seem to recall my favorite character actress Dorothy Neumann has a tiny role in it towards the beginning.

The film's star, Ray Danton, is someone that many of my interviewees who worked with him at Warner Bros. seemed to despise.

I have their recording. It's quite wonderful!

I am at Toyland, safe and secure, ready to proofread a choral problem in one of the EILEEN scores before I scan everything. The dermatologist did a biopsy on something on my back between my shoulder blades, and I have my next appointment for Sept 16. She's quite lovely, and I liked her very much.

I hope I didn't start too much controversy with my original Michelle Bachman post, but when the woman says that gays are part of "Satan," well, she is not going to have me as a fan.

She's an idiot; so is her closeted husband and the horse they rode in on.

Ditto, for me, Larry!  No  controversy at all, MBarnum.

They're such bigots they probably agree with Mel Gibson that people who wear such headgear killed Christ, and they're so stupid they probably think Shirley Temple is a synagogue.

Oh... Before I go...

A Vibe Request...

Thank You.

~~~VIBES FOR DR JOSE'S SISTER-IN-LAW!!~~~
Thanks to all for the CBTD vibes....we had a fine opening night.....the show is pretty ordinary with some bright spots....but the audience - all 188 of them....enjoyed it very much....and done by 10 o'clock!
We may sell out - which will be good for us!  My cousin Lita, the director, dedicated the show to my parents.  She used to spend a lot of time with us in the summer, and she loved being with so many kids at one time.  That was very sweet of her.
In the amusing department - when the mother of the then twelve-year-old singer came to me and asked if I'd do an act for her daughter, I told her that if we went ahead that people would see what we were doing and immediately jump on the bandwagon.  We began that journey five or six months ago.  For the last two months, we've gotten the word out majorly, and the show is less than three weeks away now.  Of course, it's being advertised that she's the youngest person to do a solo cabaret act at thirteen.  So, in the last two weeks what have we seen?  I'll tell you because it's always funny to me -
A very bad cabaret director announced that he was doing a cabaret workshop for - wait for it - young teens.  He'd been inspired by seeing the young teen daughter of a friend of his.  However, since this person has spent the last decade imitating things I do (he really has), I know exactly where his inspiration came from - especially as he came to the Gardenia, heard we were doing the show with Melody and SAW Melody.
Today, some yokel on Cabaret West announces "Teen Idol" a contest for teens who want to do cabaret.  Gee, could it have been the Facebook updates we make?  Could it be the postcard about Melody's show that he got?  It is to laugh.  We haven't even done the damn show yet and they can't wait to see if we've actually come up with a new trend.  The thirteen-year-old's mother thinks I'll be inundated with offers from other mothers of teens.  That might or might not come to pass, but already all these other people are trying to jump in and get in on it, just in case it's something that's viable and can make them some money.
I am currently listening to that new Deodato CD I posted a YouTube link to the other day.
I loved AMELIE, wasn't crazy about CHOCOLAT.
Thanks for all the Vibes for my sister-in-law. The whole situation really caught her - and everyone else - off guard. She literally felt something wrong earlier in the week so she went to the doctor yesterday morning. They found a cyst the size of a golf ball on her thyroid gland. -And she had just had a physical three weeks and nothing had turned up then. Thankfully, she has a great set of doctors - and some good insurance - so she was able to see everyone she needed to see over the past 36 hours. Now we wait.
Weird question, jose - Is it remotely possible that there was yet another party for the donors that all that reported food was being made for?  or was that food just a figment of someone's imagination?
DR FJL - Nope. The donors party was the reception immediately following the performance: open bar and desserts. I guess "we" all had figured that some "real food" would be available - provided - later to the cast and crew. "We" did see trays of food from CostCo sitting on the staff kitchen counter, so... But those trays turned out to be filled pita chips, vegetables, hummus and cookies. -Better than nothing. In the end, no one was truly disappointed or felt cheated. And most of us were just tired anyway after such a long week.
However, there was plenty o' food in the greenroom before the show. Lots of opening night goodies that various people brought in: candy, brownies, pies, a bushel of just-picked vine-ripened peaches(!).
Jose, I'm curious about something.  Is there much interaction between the cast and the orchestra before and after the performances?  At Tacoma Musical Playhouse there is a lot of camaraderie, but they use a lot of the same musicians every show, so becomes kind of a family.  When I did GUYS AND DOLLS at Seattle Music Theatre the cast and musicians had only a nodding acquaintance.
Since you will all be together until October is there a closer interaction?
Both should help with the pain during & keeping the muscles from getting too sore.  Since I can only take a mild tranquilizer I find taking another one at bedtime keeps me from being sore the next morning.  If you are lucky you will have a newer, faster MRI machine.
Oh, if you think you need to double the ear plugs do so.  The last time I had one the ear plugs didn't work very well & I lost some hearing.
Back from various and sundried errands and whatnot and seeing Melody's improv show, which was fun.  We then got a bite to eat at Musso and Frank, about which more later.  Listening to our new master.
Here is the question I should have asked on Wednesday's Ask BK: Why will people eat "pork butt" but they won't even consider "beef tongue?"
pork butt is really pork shoulder.
Fr. Richard celebrated a beautiful mass this morning - thanks for the never-too-late vibes, DR FJL!  After the service we had breakfast at the hotel, packed the car, and he went to the final Synod session and I went to Starbucks for coffee with DR Edisaurus and her DH Greg.  We had a very nice visit and I told her how much she's missed here and gave her a big HHW hug.  The Synod was just adjourning when I got back to the hotel - Richard and I got away about 11:45.
DR Laura sorry about your old feral cat.
Thanks, Jane. Our purpose all those years ago when he showed up was to get him neutered so he couldn't reproduce and let him live out his natural life. We succeeded in that. He had a nice long life for a feral cat. I still hope he turns up, though. Alive, that is.
I decided i would weigh myself every 2 weeks (even though I hate doing it). I"m always afraid that i will not have lost as much as I think i have (and that it will make me less motivated).
The good news is that i lost another 5lbs. So that is 10 lbs total. The bad news is that it is only the 10lbs i gained when i was sick in may. But i think some of it is muscle. Because i feel in much better shape than i was in may.  So if i continue to lose 5 lbs every 2 weeks then i should be at the 15 more lbs i want to lose by end of august. Fingers crossed.
I just watched and absolutely beautiful movie which Netflix had delivered to me this week. The film is UNDERTOW.
It is a Peruvian film (my first one!) and it is about a married fisherman who is in love with another man. It is a ghost story and one of the best films I have seen in a looooooooooong time.
Here is the trailer, if you are interested.
Weird question, jose - Is it remotely possible that there was yet another party for the donors that all that reported food was being made for?  or was that food just a figment of someone's imagination?
DR FJL - Nope. The donors party was the reception immediately following the performance: open bar and desserts. I guess "we" all had figured that some "real food" would be available - provided - later to the cast and crew. "We" did see trays of food from CostCo sitting on the staff kitchen counter, so... But those trays turned out to be filled pita chips, vegetables, hummus and cookies. -Better than nothing. In the end, no one was truly disappointed or felt cheated. And most of us were just tired anyway after such a long week.
However, there was plenty o' food in the greenroom before the show. Lots of opening night goodies that various people brought in: candy, brownies, pies, a bushel of just-picked vine-ripened peaches(!).
Jose, I'm curious about something.  Is there much interaction between the cast and the orchestra before and after the performances?  At Tacoma Musical Playhouse there is a lot of camaraderie, but they use a lot of the same musicians every show, so becomes kind of a family.  When I did GUYS AND DOLLS at Seattle Music Theatre the cast and musicians had only a nodding acquaintance.
Since you will all be together until October is there a closer interaction?
More or less everyone hangs out in the green room before the show - cast, orchestra, crew - and sometimes the occasional board member (it's one of their perks). Afterwards, it all depends on the day of the week. Most of the musicians have "day jobs", so they usually head right home afterwards. Some of the actors will hang out and have a drink in the lobby bar afterwards. And sometimes everyone just hangs out for a while.
DR Jose if it is thyroid cancer the survival rate is extremely high as is the quality of life after treatment.  Even the treatment is better than most.
DR Jane - Thankfully, the treatment and cure(?) of thyroid cancer is quite "easy". It's just so weird that the cyst developed so fast - even her doctor was shocked. Additionally, other forms of cancer run in her family, so they're hoping it's not related to something else.
Had a great dinner tonight with friends. The restaurant uses only local products and prepares everything in an old-fashioned way. No food processors, no microwaves, no blenders. Nothing frozen. Everything fresh.
I told the waiter I was diabetic and couldn't have the dessert, which was included in the three-course meal. The chef came out, asked about various items on the menu and I ended up with a meal that had no potatoes, polenta or flour, all of which were part of the regular meal. And instead of dessert, a local  cheese platter with five excellent cheeses from Texas.
I can't tell you how good that treatment made me feel.
Whose translation of "The Count" are you listening to? Are the lesbians in it?
The only modern translation is Robin Buss' for Penguin Books and it now seems to be out of print. I just ordered a copy on Abebooks; it's like THE THREE MUSKETEERS; about every five years I want to reread them.
this is the lesbian-free translation. At least so far. I don't know the translator.
Thanks to all for the CBTD vibes....we had a fine opening night.....the show is pretty ordinary with some bright spots....but the audience - all 188 of them....enjoyed it very much....and done by 10 o'clock!
We may sell out - which will be good for us!  My cousin Lita, the director, dedicated the show to my parents.  She used to spend a lot of time with us in the summer, and she loved being with so many kids at one time.  That was very sweet of her.
Great to hear this.  So you're a major part of it in spirit.  That's lovely!
Great news.
Weird question, jose - Is it remotely possible that there was yet another party for the donors that all that reported food was being made for?  or was that food just a figment of someone's imagination?
DR FJL - Nope. The donors party was the reception immediately following the performance: open bar and desserts. I guess "we" all had figured that some "real food" would be available - provided - later to the cast and crew. "We" did see trays of food from CostCo sitting on the staff kitchen counter, so... But those trays turned out to be filled pita chips, vegetables, hummus and cookies. -Better than nothing. In the end, no one was truly disappointed or felt cheated. And most of us were just tired anyway after such a long week.
However, there was plenty o' food in the greenroom before the show. Lots of opening night goodies that various people brought in: candy, brownies, pies, a bushel of just-picked vine-ripened peaches(!).
Jose, I'm curious about something.  Is there much interaction between the cast and the orchestra before and after the performances?  At Tacoma Musical Playhouse there is a lot of camaraderie, but they use a lot of the same musicians every show, so becomes kind of a family.  When I did GUYS AND DOLLS at Seattle Music Theatre the cast and musicians had only a nodding acquaintance.
Since you will all be together until October is there a closer interaction?
Oh!
Additionally, the cast and orchestra developed a nice relationship during the initial run in the Fall. And since most of the original cast and all of the original orchestra is back - I'm the only new person in the pit - our Wandelprobe was also a reunion of sorts for everyone. :)
Yeah!!! I don't have everything done I need to do before the party, but I got enough done that tomorrow will be a breeze and that was my goal.  The livingroom hasn't been this clean in ages.   I have my corner where I sit and it tends to get very cluttered. Not tonight.
YEAH!
Hopefully you won't oversleep tomorrow, DR Cillaliz. ;)
The guests won't arrive until 6:30 or later...with this crowd usually everyone is fashionably late, so I have plenty of time.
Sounds like it's going to be great fun!
I think so.  I had to try to really change things up when the weather forecast was for heat index over 111.  It was really going to be an outside party.  I'll be curious to see if anyone wants to sit outside now.  The deck looks nice.  I'll fog for bugs and have it ready for everyone
I just watched and absolutely beautiful movie which Netflix had delivered to me this week. The film is UNDERTOW.
It is a Peruvian film (my first one!) and it is about a married fisherman who is in love with another man. It is a ghost story and one of the best films I have seen in a looooooooooong time.
Here is the trailer, if you are interested.
Beware, the movie has some nudity in it, however.
I actually have this in my Netflix queue, already.
