Well, you've read the notes, the notes were boundless and had lethargy, and now it is time for you to post until the boundlessly lethargic cows come home.

Yesterday was a miserably frustrating day at the office and I was in no mood to post - instead we all watched Unstoppable

I am not a fan of this type of movie but I do love Denzel Washington and although I "knew" how the movie had to end I was still on the edge of my seat

Okay, I was browsing George C. Scott's IMDB page   (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001715/) and navigated over to view the credits of Scott's wife, Trish Van Devere   (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0886556/) (one of my least favorite 70s actresses), and clicked on something called GOING APE (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066563/).  Behold and lo, the link takes me to the GOING APE page, which is actually for the movie WHERE'S POPPA?

Huh?!?

I wanted to comment yesterday about THE EYES OF LAURA MARS...  I loved this movie for precisely the reasons BK mentioned--it was so delightfully bad!  I was obsessed with it, watching it every time it played on cable (which was often.)  I knew the movie inside and out.

Flash forward twenty-five years later--I watched it again on cable and my reaction was "meh..."  Funny how tastes--even bad tastes--change...

Good morning, all! By the tme I had a bite to eat, secured the apartment, and turned out the lights, it was well past midnight, so I slept late this morning. Today iincludes some research online at the NYPL so I'll walk down there around 11:30 or so.

The cast recording list sent out all the FOLLIES reviews, so I've read them all. My impression, like my impression of Frank Rich's rave for Susan Shulman's second rate TEENY TODD at Circle in the Square, is that a lot of the good reviews for this production are coming from reviewers who missed the chance 40 years ago to rave about the piece. I'm still amazed that the director selected the set and lighting designers he did, since I feel it's those areas that prevent much of this piece from ever working as well as it should; the actors set the mood, but the set and lighting push the mystery and the magic as much as the haunting score, and it's all too real and mundane an atmosphere for a theatre of ghosts; the past scenes and the ghosts don't have the stage effects to convey that they're not a part of this time and place, and the set is far too solid and unimaginative. For example, why are there three walls to this set? Shouldn't the wings of the stage mysteriously move on forever rather than give the appearance that the audience is watching a solid room under construction?

Warren Carlyle is a lovely man, and I think that a lot of the nice comments the director is getting in the press actually should go to Warren.

I also forgot how poor the sound design is; I was sitting in the second row, center, of the mezzanine and that 28-piece orchestra never sounded like a live orchestra to me to me. Instead of the sound of a live band floating out of the pit, it sounded tinny and came through loud speakers. Do any sound designers, except for Scott Lehrer who did SOUTH PACIFIC and FINIAN'S RAINBOW, know what a live band sounds like? Jonathan's work is amazing, and while everyone is raving about a full orchestra in that pit, it could all be coming from a phonograph.

So, there you have my take on FOLLIES, a great show let down once again by its creative staff.

I have no more news. I ned to dig around in my carton of 2011 receipts to find the US postal one for the carton I shipped to Dublin over a week ago. I don't believe it's shown up yet and I paid a lot in postage. I want to know where it is. There's been no word from the Man In Philadelpha over my last email, and I was sure we'd be in discussions by now over my dissatisfaction with some aspects of this job.

So, more coffee, my meds, and a trip to the library.

As for the reviews of FOLLIES... To add to DR elmore's observations, I'm also sensing a "sigh of relief" that this current production is a good production - not a great one, but a good one - and that Bernadette Peters' portrayal of Sally has filled out nicely since the original run in DC. This could have ended up being yet another truly lackluster production, but it hasn't.

*Of course, I'm hoping that "they" remember come January 1 that this is a limited run, and at it did not "flop" because it didn't get extended.

It puts a lot of early New York/Broadway history in perspective and gives us a good view of the lawless frontier that show business was in the early 20th century.

It was a frustrating day at the NYPL, because the Pro-quest search engine for Historic Newspapers Online kept crashing. I gave up after trying several different terminals, looked at the vocal score for The Princess 'Pat", a 1915 Herbert show, and came home. I'll try the computers at NYPL on Thursday. Hopefully, they will be rebooted by then.

Well, getting my Los Angeles vacation planned, little by little.

One day will be spent at the Hollywood show, but since there isn't anyone at it that I am all that excited about (except Abby Dalton and Sherry Jackson and Donna Loren) I will likely not attend both days, so on that sunday I will hie myself to Little Tokyo and see the play WIDOW OF NO IMPORTANCE which features The very funny actor Parvesh Cheena who played Gupta on the now cancelled TV series OUTSOURCED.

I do need to arrange with BK to do the Kritzerland tour, as I have not yet done that, and I really do want to. Maybe DR Jeanne can come and we will force take BK out for some Indian food.

Thanks for your concern Fred, but I'll be fine by the time I need to leave work...so it's not a problem.  Right now, I'm wearing sunglasses (the kind that completely cover my regular eye glasses), so it's all pretty dark and comfortable, but not so dark that I can't work.

I've never gotten contacts on-line.  They gave me five pairs of daily-wear contacts to try, since I've never used daily wear contacts before, and they said that the kind that I had been wearing aren't going to be made for much longer...and these are cheaper.  I didn't pick out new frames, yet.  At first glance, I didn't like much of what they had available.  I'm going to go back next week after using these trial contacts and decide something then.  I do need new lenses and I'll probably get something similar to what I have now (Silhouettes (http://www.silhouette.com/)).  At least, I'll be able to keep my current frameless "frames" until the new ones come in.

We had a little hiccup today and I had a feeling it would come - last week, when watching Nick's Nudie documentary, I noticed for the first time that Image Entertainment but a stupid copyright notice on it.  Now, they do not own the copyright nor have they ever submitted for copyright - they offered me an advance against royalties and instead of taking it I told them we'd use it to pay for the documentary.  Therefore, they did not fund the documentary, I did, and therefore I own it.  They had the rights to it for seven years, just as they had the rights to the film on DVD and VHS for seven years (their contract expired in 2009 and that is why the disc is OOP everywhere).  The authoring guy and I discussed removing it, but it was complicated due to some music that would have been cut off along with two shots that follow it.  So, after discussion and my explaining it all to him, we left it.  Of course the replication place saw it and immediately asked me to get documentation - of course, there is no documentation - it wasn't even part of the original contract, and the original contract is buried deep in some box and I wouldn't even know where to begin looking.  So, I called my guy at the authoring place and he said to just write him a note of ownership and indemnification, a simple half-page, which I did.  He thinks it will all be fine now.

Craig & I managed to leave oil all over the kitchen counters.  I made one attempt at cleaning it before I left for my book group.  I need to give them a good cleaning now.

The potatoes & chipotle were a big hit.

Hey everyone, it's "The Vixter". Something wonked out on my old account, and it wouldn't let me log in. *shrugs* Oh well. I guess I get a new start with school AND the site.

Hi, DR Vixter09!  How's school?

It's going pretty good. I managed to get past my first public speaking speech without a problem, my philosophy teacher is nice and keeps offering awesome extra credits, and I've been reading "Interview With A Vampire" on the bus and during breaks. My first club meeting is tomorrow at eleven, and if I can borrow some money from mom ( bus tapped me out ^^" ) I'm going to meet up with my best friend to have some fun with her, probably at a pizza parlor or nearby five guys.

On the bad side, My music fundamentals teacher scares me to pieces. I have to sit in front of him every class, and when he looks at me, I feel like his jokes are making fun of me, and that he is thinking of ways to hurt me. I know he's probably not, but it's still creepy to lock eyes with him.

Other then that, does anyone associate any songs with me? One of the extra credits is to hand in a c.d. of "The Soundtrack Of My Life".

And on a matter of opinion, do you think I'd make a better "Lestat" or "Claudia" for halloween? Either way, I need to secure a "Louis" and fast. XD

And you?

DR George did you pick out new glasses or will you go back for them when you can see better?  Do you order your contacts on-line?

They are usually less on-line, compare prior to purchasing.

Why not re-use your frame since you like it?

I don't doubt that part of it is that they want to make a new sale, but they said that, with the kind of frameless frames that these are, it was easier to make everything new and there was less chance of potential damage.  There are no actual frames around the lenses, just a nose bridge and the arms.  They're all attached directly to the lenses.

Well....I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the book THE HAMMERSTEINS.....the pictures are fun and the text is lively with some few revelations...

It puts a lot of early New York/Broadway history in perspective and gives us a good view of the lawless frontier that show business was in the early 20th century.
I look forward to reading my copy, but that won't be until after the semester ends.

I have been watching the ABC News special about the new Jacqueline Kennedy book and the accompanying interviews on CD - fascinating.

JohnG, hope the fire doesn't spread...that sounds too close for comfort
USAA is bigger than the Pentagon and about as well protected. That fire wouldn't dare.

Well that's good news.  I was going to ask if you took all your valuables out of the office when you left

Didn't know the fire was raging. And my only valuables at the office are some 90% chocolate and some raw almonds.

What a night.  I was having weird feelings about a track that's on our next release - it was sent out today to our pressing plant for arrival tomorrow.  I couldn't understand why our source material didn't have the main title on it.  I was able to grab it from the Blu and Ray so no worries, although it just didn't sound very good there.  Naturally, we led off with that track.  But the more I thought about it the more I began to have a theory.  So, I listened to it and then listened to the second track and sure enough what was nagging at me was correct.  I'd read online somewhere that the director of the film hadn't wanted a main title sequence at all but when he heard the first cue of the film, which occurs quite a ways in, he liked it so much that he added the main title sequence.  So, what I realized is that basically track one and two were exactly the same, save for one thirty-two second edit from another track in the middle.  That's how it was created.  So, what we ended up doing was recreating that from our better-sounding tracks and then we put it at the end as a bonus track, so we didn't basically have the same thing twice.  I then had to go add all that information in the booklet, which thankfully wasn't sent yet.  So, I e-mailed the pressing plant to toss what they get tomorrow, and they'll have the new one on Thursday morning.  Glad I don't rest until it's right :)

Took a walk tonight down Main Street tonight and saw the new guy driving home from his son's practice.   He's a good guy and really loves his kids.

I think the divorce was not too pleasant.  Will ask one day.

Told him i was a bit nuts, did not seem to scare him away.  ;D

Good Evening!

So...

After tonight's show, I drove out to Dulles to meet my friend, Brendan, for a late night dinner. It turns out that after flying to BWI from Dulles, he ended up being driven(!) back to Dulles from Baltimore since the various delays were going to put him into overtime. -Which, in piloting terms, means "no more flying". We had a good dinner and a great catch up session. He has another overnight at Dulles on Thursday, so I'll try to walk him into the show then since he wasn't able to make it tonight.

Has anyone watched/is anyone planning on watching "Ringer" with Sarah Michelle Gellar?  I'm watching it now and so far...it's intriguing.  I never like plots that have someone trying to impersonate someone else (usually used in sci-fi when someone is cloned), so we'll see how this plays out.
