DR ELMORE - The Bridge of San Luis Rey is one of my favorite books EVER......

I remember that I liked it, and I look forward to reading it again. One of the characters in the novel is also the heroine of Offenbach's comic opera, La Perichole.

It's time to head to the post office.

Thanks to all for the CBTD vibes....we had a fine opening night.....the show is pretty ordinary with some bright spots....but the audience - all 188 of them....enjoyed it very much....and done by 10 o'clock!

We may sell out - which will be good for us!  My cousin Lita, the director, dedicated the show to my parents.  She used to spend a lot of time with us in the summer, and she loved being with so many kids at one time.  That was very sweet of her.

Great to hear this.  So you're a major part of it in spirit.  That's lovely!

TOD:

Assuming it arrives, I'll be watching the 7th (?) season of ENTOURAGE.

Also expecting THE RISE AND FALL OF LEGS DIAMOND and THE THREAT from Warner Archive, but I doubt if they'll be here before next week.

This is very reminsicent of a radio item on OPB (Oregon Public Broadcasting) I may have mentioned from a few years ago.  A Sunday morning news reader was talking about Jewish skullcaps and evidently didn't understand that "yarmulke" is NOT pronounced phonetically.  :)

TOD:  All the new Lionsgate catalog BDs.  Got CHOCLAT and AMELIE reviewed yesterday, am now wending my way through BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY, and then a film of which I know nothing, THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS, some sort of Holocaust drama.

I am currently listening to that new Deodato CD I posted a YouTube link to the other day.

I am hoping *my* copy of THE EGYPTIAN arrives today so that I can post my review, which I am getting a lot of emails about, wondering where it is.

In short...

We had a wonderful Opening Night performance. Great audience. Great energy in the house. And the cast, crew and orchestra were really at the their peak. -Our "Dream Curly" even ended up doing a triple pirouette in one place where he only had to do a double. ;)

The first party was very nice. It was held in the "The Library" which is one of the new spaces right off of the lobby of the theatre. There were some nice desserts - including some killer peach tarts - and drinks. Some speeches, lots of mingling and schmoozing, lot of congratulatory handshakes and hugs. Once the caterers started packing up everything around midnight, people started to make their way upstairs to the second party...

There were rumors that some "real food" had been seen in the kitchen: sandwiches, fried chicken, cheese platters, etc. Well...

The reality: hummus and pita chips, a vegetable tray, a big tray of chocolate chip cookies and another tray of peanut butter cookies. Oh, and some beer and wine.

...But it was a nice, low-key gathering for the staff of the theatre and the cast and crew of the show.

Oh... Before I go...

A Vibe Request...

My sister-in-law and niece were supposed to attend last night's opening night performance. I hadn't heard from the all day, and finally called my sister-in-law around 5:00 and left a message. A few minutes later, she called back. It turns out that she had been at the doctors all day. And she will be seeing another doctor today, an oncologist, to have a biopsy done. She seemed very calm yesterday when I talked to her, but I'm sure any and all VIBES would be appreciated. Thank You.

BK, I never saw HONDO until last year when I picked up the DVD.  While the plot ultimately is somewhat routine, what makes the movie is the richness of the character, particularly the John Wayne's loner Hondo.  Some terrific work by Wayne and the rest of the cast.
