From DR Vixmom:
Quote
Jane - have you read Gap Creek yet?

No, I have been reading THE RED SCARF (paperback) by Kate Furnivall which I liked very much.  I've got another paperback to read that a friend lent me.  I don't think I'll like the book so I'll begin with that first.  I'm going to keep GAP CREEK for awhile as it is the only book I currently have on the Nook.

DR Jane, re: your comments about eating before exercising.

Have you ever tried eating 1-2 hours before?  I didn't mean to say i could just eat and exercise right after. No i usually wait at least an hour.

But i could not exercise in the morning without eating first. Like i said i would not have enough energy to do it.

If i swim i eat 2 hours before. Biking at least 1 hour.

I used to always eat breakfast, however I find I can't eat too early anymore.  Since I usually exercise sometime in the morning I just end up waiting.  I have to have something to wash down my morning pills so I do have a small bit of matzo.

DR Jane i also really liked A gifted Man. Although i recommended it to my mom and she did not like it.

Did you or anyone watch Person of Interest?  I'm not sure if i liked it. I love Ben from Lost. But not sure i liked this new show.

We enjoyed it and plan to watch again.

Where is style?
Where is skill?
Where is forethought?
Where's discretion of the heart?
Where's passion in the art?
Where's craft?

DR Jane when you exercise is it first thing in the morning without any food in your body? Or do you just mean that you don't eat right before but that you've eaten something that day?

Like i said i could not exercise without anything in my stomach. Also it probably depends on how hard you work out. Just to do some minor exercises might not take that much energy.   But also i can't imagine that it could be good for a person to exercise without anything in their body. I did actually try to bike once first thing in the morning on no food. ANd it was impossible. I was sluggish. And couldn't go very fast. It was not good!

LOL Jennifer I know, there was a time I never imagined going without breakfast.  Exercising slightly fatigued or feeling like you might throw up, which would you prefer?

I have had by 1/4 piece of matzo and I'm off to the gym to use some weights & go 3-4 miles on the treadmill.  I think it is a decent, not great, workout.

I've watched a number of the new fall shows and have yet to find anything I'll return to for a second week.

And so far today, I've basically done nothing. Some breakfast. Some TV. Some web-surfing.

Ahhhh.... :)

I looked up the new musical, "South Street." I was amazed that the otchestrator gets top billing on the ad! I should have been so lucky!

And while I catch up on yesterday's posts, here's a nice stroll through the Oxford Street HMV Store... In the 1960's.

*I wonder if Benjamin Kritzer would have liked the place? ;)

I used to call them and order recordings from them. In 2001, I bought John McGlinn's birthday gift there.

I remember when the overpriced (and shortly-lived) HMV opened in Philly, many people said that the initials stood for "Here Money Vanishes".

They had a New York store (again, short-lived) on the newly cleaned-up 42nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. I think they had one on the Upper East Side as well on 86th and Lexington.

There was one on the Upper West side at 72nd and Broadway.

And isn't it funny that another label, knowing this was coming and would be our 100th release, moved up a release of their own by the same composer from the same era so they could get theirs out before ours.

Yes - that's what I thought. It's a pity labels feel they have to act like that - it doesn't benefit anyone.

A frustrating day because my spectacles needed repairing, after the screw holding one of the arms fell off (naturally the tiny screw completely disappeared). So it was off to the opticians at the shopping mall. Whilst there I had a small but tasty lunch of chicken caesar in artisan bread. Back home found my washing machine was overflowing at the waste output. Is that a job for the washing machine manufacturer or a plumber I wonder?

I liked their stores in NYC. Yes, some of the items were priced higher there than at Tower Records, however... Their Classical section normally carried lots of EMI imports, and their main store always had some great "Top 20" and "New Release" sales in each category. I would always walk the couple extra blocks past Tower up to 72nd Street to check the sale prices at HMV first.

bk - I'm sorry you had to sit through South Street.

-I'm just wondering why, after all of their recent major financial issues, that Pasadena Playhouse would risk taking on such a venture. Yes, it's good to support new writers and talent, but someone with absolutely no previous track record in musicals? ???
