Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a blur, and now it is time for you to post until the blurry cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TRACTATE!
-
At least our GUESTS are back - welcome fifty GUESTS.
-
I think the only version of Losing My Mind that even comes close to Miss Dorothy Collins is Dame Edna.
-
Welcome sixty GUESTS. That's more like it, baby. It's just sixty GUESTS and ME. Let's play Parchesi!
-
Let's do the LIMBO!
-
Let's eat churros and dance in our pantaloons.
-
Let's do it, let's fall in love.
-
I am on a roll or, at the very least, rye bread.
-
The world is a circle without a beginning and nobody knows where it really ends. Whoa.
-
That was deep.
-
I think the only version of Losing My Mind that even comes close to Miss Dorothy Collins is Dame Edna.
I second that! I LOVE Dame Edna's version! ;D
-
Such depth and emotion in Dame Edna's version. It is the ONLY viable alternative.
-
I dreamed I was dancing in my Maidenform Bra.
-
I think the only version of Losing My Mind that even comes close to Miss Dorothy Collins is Dame Edna.
Is that the Dame Edna recording that the reviewer from The Sondheim Review return the CD to you?
-
Now to clarify a point.
Did you mean that Bruce Kimmel would record the song?
Or that you will record the song with another singer?
-
The other day DR MATTHEW was asking where World Take Me Back was placed. It is sung between It Takes A Woman and Sunday. If the screenplay didn't veer to much from the libretto it is where Streisand sings the reprise of It Takes A Woman.
-
ALSO
There was much talk about the film version of 1776.
I have read somewhere that they are going to release the original roadshow version and the director's cut together. The guy who directed got some flack about cutting out those 11 minutes.
BTW The LD has an overture and entr'acte music (Can't remember if there was exit music) that were NOT part of any cut of the film
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
It's supposed to be another hot day.
We shall see.
-
We spent a lovely day with our friend. We went to a diner and ate and laughed and had a great time. Then we went to his sister's and ate chocolate cream pie!
Then we came home and watched
Kultur's (http://www.kultur.com/Judy-Frank-Dean-p/d2250.htm)
DVD release of Judy, Frank and Dean, a precursor to Judy's show in 1963-1964.
It was fun, not great, but it made some people in television think maybe she should have a weekly show.
Today we have no plans. We may watch An American in Paris. We may not.
-
I'm about to finish Dazzler, the bio of Moss Hart. It's a decent book (as JR). It's not great. I did learn some thing but it's not an incisive, must read. I'm glad I read it and it makes me want to read Act One again, even though I know that some of it isn't truth, but truth filtered through Mr. Hart's eyes.
Oatmeal with strawberries, blueberries and cinnamon and a cup of coffee.
-
Good morning, all! It's going to be in the high 90s today, so I want to run to Toyland and take the remaining orchestra parts to the McGlinnventory while traffic is slow from the holiday. On Monday, I will ship them to Dublin.
So, I am off.
-
Work all day today....oh well.
Rehearsal was okay last night.....have to change ONE costume. The lighting and sound cues were all correct....so we shall see what we shall see on Monday.
-
I wish I knew why I can't see my avatar. Not that it's so much to look at....but it is disconcerting to see a blank white box where my face should be.
-
TOD:
Yes, I am not sure if the topic is songs we want MR BK to sing or record with others.....so I will say.....sing himself.
The Story of My Life
or
Zing Zing Zing A Little Zong
-
Here is our promo for THE CURIOUS SAVAGE.....with my name spelled incorrectly....oh well.

-
candles - must remember to buy candles
-
Happy Birthday and Anniversary to the various Vix relatives!!!
-
Happy, er, Everything to the Vixes!
-
I'm still on the patio and no one has arisen on this warm Saturday morning. According to the thermometer in the front of the house, it's 80 degrees. I'm under an umbrella sitting at the picanic table and it's OK but I'll have to go in soon because the laptop doesn't have a screen filter and I can't use it in bright sunlight. I can't see anything during the day.
-
one of these weekends when you are on long island i would love to get together with the newlyweds!!
-
I did manage to find free e-book copies of both My Story by Mary Astor and Act One by Moss Hart at
Archive.org (http://archive.org/details/texts)
Here are the actual links to the books in case other e-readers would like to peruse. They come in many different formats including e-pub (for most of us) and Kindle.

Act One by Moss Hart (http://archive.org/details/actoneautobiogr00hart)

well I have a lot to do and little time to accomplish so off its to the shops for the likes of me
-
one of these weekends when you are on long island i would love to get together with the newlyweds!!
That would be wonderful. We would love that. The next time we come out I'll let you know and we can try to see each other. We haven't seen Vixdad since A Little of What You Fancy at 1010 Players in 2005.
I was worried for a minute. I lost the connection and thought this post would be lost. I'm back on line!
-
Welcome home DR jane.
-
Happy Birthday to all the Vixfamily!
I think you do a cake that just says Happy Birthday. Or list the names. But I also love the idea of the cupcakes around the cake with all the names. I'm sure whatever you do will be nice.
-
I nearly lost control of the car when a spider dropped down from the roof and landed in my face. Ugh!
-
Ouch DR DOUG R.....it sounds like you were in a Bert I Gordon movie!
-
Apparently our constant wet weather here in the U.K. is all the fault of you lot in the U.S. where you are holding onto a huge area of high pressure which is blocking the jet stream from giving us our usual summer weather.
-
Sorry to hear about the friend of DR DtM!
Congratulations to the family of DR VIXMOM on their various anniversaries.
-
Off to work with expected temps outside of 104 degrees.
Oh hell....I mean....oh well...
-
Greetings from Toyland!
-
Morning all!
I think that (if there is time) each person should get a cupcake with one candle and their name it with a small cake that says "Happy Everything!" on it.
Of course that many candles may be considered a fire hazard and banned by the fire marshal.
-
I'd like to say I dreamed of "Oy! The Musical" staring Michael Ball but alas I did not.
Instead I dreamed about either moving or cleaning the house but things were in boxes to be thrown away and in one box there were a bunch of old photo albums. I started to walk past them but then found I couldn't bear the thought of getting rid of them so I was taking them out of the boxes and hoping I got them all.
Since photos are memories I would guess that means I am thinking about leaving the past behind but am not quite ready. But what do I know?
-
BTW I just saw a tweet from Michael Ball (Yes, I follow him) where he said it's rainy and cold enough to put the heat on where he's at. I think of those here in the States with the 100 degree weather and marvel at how different it can be in other parts of the world.
I do think it proves that global warming is upon us.

I haven't watched it for awhile, but I believe that the DVD restores the number (i.e. "Conservative Men") that was cut from the theatrical release.

Yes, "Conservative Men" is back for good, on the DVD and on TCM. What's missing is parts of "Piddle Twiddle", the "Lees of Virginia" extension, and quite a few other little bits. The assembled laserdisc, as rough as the inserted footage is, is a revelation, and I hope they go through with a proper release of it someday.
The LD also has the intermission, and an earlier commentary that's different from the one on the DVD. And of course the Overture and Entr'acte that never really existed (creating a roadshow presentation that never existed either), but I like 'em.
-
Good morning, all.
Thanks, Ben, for the links to the ebooks.
Happy birthday to the Vixfamily. Just let me know when the cake is ready.
-
TOD: I'd like the same clarification that Mike asked for.
But if they are songs to be sung by BK or Guy Haines or whomever, then I'll offer two:
"Once Knew a Fella" from "Destry Rides Again"
"Love Song" from "Love Life"
-
OMG Doug R so glad you're OK!
-
Skip is away to Connecticut again for the weekend
-
OMG Doug R so glad you're OK!
Not to mention the good townspeople around him. If a spider ever drops on MY face while I'm driving, you can probably expect a couple of city blocks to be taken out.
-
The orchestra parts are at the McGlinnventory and I am home. As soon as I got in, I jumped into a bath of cld water, and now I feel quite refreshed. I don't plan to do much today except watch the 6th season of BONES and maybe look at some music.
-
I nearly lost control of the car when a spider dropped down from the roof and landed in my face. Ugh!
I somehow missed this first pass around. Wow! I'm also glad your ok.
My Mom had something similar happen when one of those big honking spiders with a body the size of a quarter and legs out to there came from who knows where and ran across the dashboard. We went off the road but luckily there wasn't anything there.
Mom gingerly drove to the nearest store, bought a can of Raid and sprayed the entire can inside of the car before she would get back into it. I hate the smell of bug spray and couldn't wait to get home.

OMG, those big Florida spiders. I remember the fright of finding one in the linen closet or the bathtub.
We have "wood spiders" here that get pretty large like that, and I'm always on the lookout. Not that they do any harm -- but they're scary as all hell when you unexpectedly come upon one.
-
Saturday morning greetings! Richard and I went to the Y late yesterday afternoon, then on a shopping errand at Target and out for a bit of dinner. We'd intended to go to Middletown's First Friday event, but the heat was too much for me. We came home and I chilled in front of the TV all evening.
-
Today I have to go to Dorothy
Lamour Lane Market for some fruit and Killer Brownies for tomorrow's after-church refreshments.
-
DR Danise, I hope Thelma is getting some rest and being kind to herself.

Yes, they do give one a fright. Especially when they chase you.
-
DR Danise, I hope Thelma is getting some rest and being kind to herself.
Thank you DR Ginny. I'm trying to not bother her to much so she can rest. I gave her a brief call last night to check on her. She seems to be doing ok but I'm sure it's hard.
-
Those spiders are supposed to stay near the wine bottles, not in the car. Glad you're OK, Doug R.
-
Well, I've been sitting here like so much fish and i have laundry to do.
Laters all!
-
Songs for others to sing, not me. The singer is irrelevant.
-
I'm up because there is so much noise from tree trimming and construction that it's ridiculous
-
Wow, page 3!!! So early even. Many mini-frenzies. Sounds like we're losing our minds
-
I read Peter Filichia's column, but I didn't know that we were supposed to report when he had finished, or comment on the subject matter.
-
I wish I knew why I can't see my avatar. Not that it's so much to look at....but it is disconcerting to see a blank white box where my face should be.
Ohhh, I thought that was your avatar!
-
I'm going to have some lunch and then go out for a bit - bye for now!
-
Page Four!
-
TCB your current avatar is my favorite picture of you
Why thank you! I wish I could use the full photo (so it would be easier to figure out the photo), but I would look like a very small ant (or aunt) if I did.

Did any of you see that clip yesterday of the female reporter who was doing a live update when a cat jumped up on her from behind? Naturally it si now available on YouTube.

Killer Brownies?

In that case, the list could go on for days, but I would love to hear Elmore kick out a swinging orchestration for Cole Porter's "Leader of a Big Time Band" for a trio and someone with a beautiful soprano, like Rebecca Luker, take on "Stage Door John" from Johnny Mercer and Andre Previn's "The Good Companions."

That's funny. Painful, but funny.
-
Thanks Bruce. It was really great to see you. Keith & I enjoyed our walk down memory lane and looking at your special books.
-
Thank you DR's Kevin, George, Danise, & FJL.
-
VIBES FOR THELMA! I will have to find out later why I'm sending them.
-
Still noisy here - it's all this tree-trimming crap the city does - in fact, the only trees they haven't touched are the ones in front of my house, which REALLY need it.
-
It's good to finally see DR Jane back here where she belongs.
It's also good to go to the mailbox and find LURE OF THE SWAMP, REFORM SCHOOL GIRL, COVER GIRL, and THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES. In a better world, every trip to the mailbox would be like that.
-
Interesting development in the Natalie Wood case. Must be an election year.
-
Today I have to go to Dorothy Lamour Lane Market for some fruit and Killer Brownies for tomorrow's after-church refreshments.
Killer Brownies?
DR TCB - Killer Brownies (http://www.shopdlm.com/viewcategory.pl?id=101&gclid=CMnOqYOtiLECFWaFQAodaHjcFw) are a specialty of Dorothy Lane Market. I bought an original, a raspberry, a German chocolate, a peanut butter, a salted caramel, and a blond ambition and they quartered and papered them for me:

Welcome back to DR Jane - we missed you!
-
And we're stuck on page 4.
I'm off to play a wedding and then make a short appearance at a soiree. Then home and something with the DP. I'll try and check in.
But could I leave you?
-
Could I leave you?
-
(frantic orchestra stuff)
-
Guess!
-
(button)
-
Okay, I need a peanut butter brownie in quarters.
-
Watching "L.A. Story." Back when I had cable this movie ran eternally. I don't think I've seen it in more than a decade. I'd forgotten how sweet it is.
-
BK, the peanut butters are the bottom row, columns 2-6 - help yourself!
-
Back from a good lunch meeting with Miss Juliana Hansen. Seated at the table next to us was another owner of a soundtrack specialty label and certainly the most obnoxious of all owners of specialty soundtrack labels. The woman who was with him never shut up - at one point I actually heard her say, "I was offered a part in a film but I didn't take it because I don't think I'm ready for that kind of acting yet." She then proceeded to say, "I've been on Broadway, of course." The owner replied, "Really?" She replied, "Well, off-Broadway. I replaced Patti LuPone in Evita." I am not making this up. She was of foreign birth with either an Italian or Hispanic accent - hard to tell. She then regaled him with tales of how close she was with Ennio Morricone and every other major Italian film composer.
-

I'm trying, I'm trying.
-
And you really need to click on the link in my post to see the Killer Brownies in cross-section...

That sounds like it was just out of "L.A. Story." I love it. I'd have been laughing MAO. ;D

Has anyone ever published a book consisting of nothing but Overheard Remarks and Conversations? Because I know who should.

Evita was never done OFF-Broadway with La LuPone. She is full of doggie too.
Clarrification:
The woman not LuPone
-
Recording:
I would like to hear Brent Barrett do one of Charlie's Meditations from Shenadioah
-
I've just finished a lengthy job of editing and proof reading a review - lengthy because so few people pay attention to spelling or
grammer grammar nowadays.
-
I appreciate all the spider attack words of sympathy. I must admit it wasn't exactly a massive spider but it was enough to get me flapping my hands about - not a good idea when driving. What baffles me is how and why it got in the car.
-
Again, I'm just looking for songs you think I should have recorded - singer is not relevant.

today is my baby brudders's 50th bd

DR Vixmom it is difficult to imagine you can work any harder or more hours than you already do.
-
Maybe a cake that says Happy birthday and cupcakes surrounding it with names on the cupcakes?
Cute. Happy birthday to the rest of the family.
-
Welcome home DR jane.
Thank you. I was excited to return to the pool today only over did it and now my shoulders hurt big time.
-
I nearly lost control of the car when a spider dropped down from the roof and landed in my face. Ugh!
Is it ok to laugh at this since you weren't hurt. ;)
-
T.O.D.
"Brother Can You Spare A Dime"
-
Thanks Bruce. It was really great to see you. Keith & I enjoyed our walk down memory lane and looking at your special books.
She's Back!
-
I'm finely home. Whew. I have GOT to remember to eat. I haven't had anything today and was getting dizzy. I stopped off at Subway and bought a sandwich which I just wolfed down.
A song--How about "Half a Moment'? I think it's lovely.
-
Nicky has been fed. TCB has been fed. Back to bed.
-
G'day!
-
Couldn't fine "Oy!--the Musical" staring Michael Ball anywhere. :( ;)
-
G'day!
Feel better, DR TCB!
-
Listening to one of our new masters - sounds good to me so far.
-

-
Again, I'm just looking for songs you think I should have recorded - singer is not relevant.
The entire "Forever Plaid" record.
-
Welcome home, Jane!
-
Thank you DR Laura.
-
Tuesday evening we had a family dinner at my brother's house and our niece announced her engagement. IT WAS ABOUT TIME! ;D
-
'night
-
Oh sure, I show up and Jane leaves!
-
Glad to have you back Jane!!
-
DougR I am truly terirfied of those spiders - it would be a grim day for those around me if a spider fell on my face while I was driving --
Years ago, (before there was a Vixter) I nearly drove Vixdad and myself off the road because there was a bit of a plastic flower caught in the windshield wiper OUTSIDE the car that I THOUGHT might be a spider
-
So the party went quite well - I ended up with a 1/4 sheet marble cake with a lemon buttercream frosting for the main cake and just had Happy Birthday on it - since the two "main" birthdays were my Mom's 80th and my brother's 50th I got two "super" cupcakes - and had MOM written on one and my brother's name on the other
-
Harry Schechter is singing "Mama, Look Sharp." :)

Thanks for this, Ben. I just downloaded "Act One." I'll look for more.

I got two really nice and big Top Round London Broilers and marinated them in a soy/sesame/ginger marinade and made my mushroom side dish - 6 vidalia onions, 6 lbs of large sliced white mushrooms - which I tossed with olive oil and then cooked on the grill (in aluminum pans) until they cooked down enough and consolidated them all into one pan - added butter and sherry and then let them simmer a bit more then covered them up in foil and they stayed warm - then at my brothers they stayed in the oven on warm til we were ready to serve them - so they had more time to soak up the sherry and butter
Made a nice salad and a fruit platter with red and green grapes, blueberries, strawberries and canteloupe, made up a basket of 40 small rolls - half crusty "artisan" rolls and half soft finger rolls)
When I got to my brother and SIL's home she had stemed up a bunch of lobster then cracked them cut up all the meat into nice chunks and melted in some butter and spices, had corn on the cob and made up a bunch of terriyaki chicken wings
-
At least my Internet access is back up...again. :P
I called Comcast and they're going to send someone on Wednesday to check the line again.
-
And they of course supplied the venue and all the drinks and decorations - (and I am afraid got stuck with most of the cleaning)
-
Happy Birthday to all the Vixfamily!

Happy Birthday to All of the Vixfamily members!! I also like the idea of one big "Happy Birthday" cake and cupcakes with names.
-
well big day at church tomorrow - we are celebrating 10 year anniversary of our Pastor's ordination --- he served as our Vicar when he was in his last year of seminary -- in fact his first sermon turned out to be the Sunday after 9/11...
time to get some sleep I am serving as assisting minister and I have been warned that the Bishop and our former Pastor's may be attending ....no pressure....
-
Has anyone ever published a book consisting of nothing but Overheard Remarks and Conversations? Because I know who should.
I remember reading of a website (of course) where people can post what they've overheard. I don't remember what it was, though.
-
Oh sure, I show up and Jane leaves!
I love Jane Leeves! She was in "Murphy Brown," then "Frasier," and now "Hot in Cleveland."
;)
-
bk - I love all the songs you have written, and there are songs that you talk about in your books that have never been recorded. What about your shows about food? How about some studio cast recordings of your shows that we have never heard.

I got off my lazy ASS and did a three-mile jog at seven. I've been watching a Beck movie that isn't really a Beck movie - The Laughing Policeman, where instead of Martin Beck we have Jake Martin and instead of Sweden we have San Francisco, CA.

Well, the laserdisc version of "1776" has been recorded to my DVD burner and the first disc (sides one and two) are being burned onto a DVD. After that, I'll burn disc 2 (sides three and four) onto another disc. Each disc will have automatically created chapter stops. My burner can't make a fancy menu. It'll just start playing. Good enough for me...until someone's able to finally release it on Blu-ray.

Had dinner outdoors tonight and it was actually quite pleasant, thanks to some overhead fans keeping things cool. Plus, it was in the Hill Country so it wasn't as bad as it is in the city (it's still 94 degrees).

Day 2 of my trip to the lake....Jon, aka jhvw shut his finger in the door and will likely lose his fingernail.
Day 3 AM of my vacation...I wiped out on a cat toy my sister bought for the cats and hit my cheekbone on a table. It'll be ok, but I'm sure the bruise will be lovely
Day 3 PM...2 1/2 year old Violet falls out of her pack and play while trying to scale the walls in an escape attempt....she broke her arm!
Despite all of this...it's been a good trip and fun to see everyone

2 1/2 year old broke her arm? That cannot be pretty. Sorry :(
-
She's doing ok. It was a stage 1 or whatever the most minor break is and is just above the elbow. Sounds more like a crack than a break. Her parents rushed her to the hospital immediately, not sure if it was a broken arm. She's got a pink cast on it and a little sling. She was fussy tonight, as she had every right to be, but enjoyed watching TINKERBELL and has been sleeping for over 4 1/2 hours now.
-
She spent most of the evening on her mom's lap. She got some medicine for pain from the doctor and I'm sure that's helping her sleep. she's an adorable kid. Her Uncle Andy and I made a trip to the store while waiting for them to come home from the hospital and bought her toys and all her favorite foods.
-
Well, all that said. You're gonna love tomorrow!!!

Time for me to get some sleep. Mom and dad don't like to have the AC on. When it was time to go to bed it was about 83 degrees in the house. They argued with me about turning on the air for quite some time. It's thier house, so I packed up some ice packs to sleep with and got ready for bed. About 10 minutes later, mom came downstairs and said "It's too hot to sleep upstairs, I'm turning on the AC". Good grief.

I gotta tell you.
-
"Molasses to Rum" has just been burned onto a DVD.
Just had to share.
-
I put sides 1&2 of the laserdisc onto one DVD and then sides 3&4 onto another disc. It's all still the 4:3 widescreen, but it looks good.
-
What's really interesting is that a great portion of the show/movie is about compromise...what's more important: ending slavery or beginning a new nation.
-
Ending slavery was certainly important, but they realized that they had to declare independence first, and then slavery would have to be dealt with later.
-
Nowadays, everyone's "argument" is "it's either my way or the highway."
That's not compromise. No one seems to want to discuss anything anymore...just yell at each other.
-
:P is what I say to that.
-
I think a lot of today's politicians could learn something from this movie...and not just about the history of our country.
-
Just my 2¢.
-
Well...
-
...since...
-
...we're so close and I don't have anything else to say...
