Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in the throes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they, too, are in the throes of not coming home.

I found this wonderful paperback book whilst rummaging through a bookstore I frequent.  I knew you'd want me to get it and to share its marvelous cover.  Those who've read How To Write A Dirty Book and Other Stories know my love for this period of sleazy books.  And isn't it time for those who haven't read How To Write A Dirty Book and Other Stories to get it and read it?  I think it is.

Time to get to work.

Today is Employee Appreciation Day.  That means we all get to go to a meeting for an hour and hear how much regional management appreciates our work.

And next week we'll get a memo from regional management asking how come our productivity was an hour short.

Good morning, all! I woke up refreshed and ready to face whatever occurs today.  This morning, Jo and I are going to run some errands and stop someplace for a huge breakfast. At noon, I'm lunching with my dad's attorney and we'll discuss the house situation as well as what needs to be done to close down the estate.

Randy last weekend finally put up a for sale sign on the property, I was happy to learn, and when I thanked him, he essentially said that if he hadn't done it, it never would have happened. I gather all the Macbeths want, kind of like Great Britain in 1775, all they can bleed from the colonies. I'm reading the McCullough bio of John Adams, so I'mn heavy into 1775 politics.

I may later see my cousing Sue Ellen and my Uncle Bob, who's my mother's youngest brother. Sue is the daughter of my mother's oldest sister, and she keeps an eyre out for him and runs errands fr him since he's her/our only living uncle. He's been in frail health for a couple of years, I believe he's around 77 now, and I fear that this is my last chance to see him.

Jo and I are off to play now. Back later.

Sometimes when you are trying to block a play, the actors suddenly forget that they have ever been onstage before, and can't figure out that we are blocking for a thrust stage and SO they shouldn't read the stage directions for a proscenium play.

Just listen to me and WRITE IT DOWN.  We are running Act One again this evening.

Back from errands with Jo, and I'm soon off to lunch with the estate's attorney. It's more social than business, but I need to address issues such as closing the estate account,  the settlement of an insurance claim, and, if my brothers continue the rental nonsense, which I now doubt, my asking for a buy-out. I'm also curious to learn what the price of land around my dad's property is currently going for. We've had a request from the State/City to buy the strip of land in front of the house to widen the highway.

Since I doubt the Macbeths won't exert any energy into maintaining the property, I do think the rental agenda may be a passing fancy.

As for the remainder of the day, I have some Brain surgery I carried with me.

Last night's "AI":  I find it most peculiar, odd and exceedingly strange that any records might have been set in the voting when viewership is down.

And I find it very hard to comprehend that Cook beat Archuleta by 12 milliion votes!

I read an interesting story online yesterday afternoon about how the Idol producers "wanted" Cook to win because he would be an easier talent to manage than would be Archuleta.  David A. was, to them, someone who would come with some unmanageable baggage (i.e., his father) and that David C. would be a more comfortable fit.

I hope they do better by David C. than they did by any of the previous winners, none of whom had great success with the Idol-management-produced CD debuts.

Did anyone else think Carrie Underwood looked a bit like street trash?  She's taken on a "hard" look.  I barely recognized her voice, either.

I only saw Underwood and part of Gladys Knight's number with the stupid trio backups.  Very unfunny stuff, IMO.  Knight was, as always, superb.

Simon's "seemed-like-an" apology to David C. was a bit much.  The damage was done.  There are times when the producers ought to take the judges "out" of the competition and keep them silent.  That included last night, too, I feel.

The only way I can account for the suspicious vote totals was that they gave four hours over to voting. I haven't voted for the finale choices in several years, but I don't remember it being four hours for voting during the Aiken/Studdard contest.

I just really wish that they could start announcing the winner at 9:45pm and then things wouldn't feel so rushed at the end. I know they want to drag it till the very end. But i would love to see the reactions. Tonight I will record IDOL EXTRAS to see all that.

Oh and DR MattH re: IDOL again and simon's recanting of his comments the night before.

Wow we seem to be on opposite ends of everything these days. Because I was really delighted by his remarks. I thought that he had done a huge disservice to David Cook the night before. ANd I was very pleased that when he watched back the show he realized what he had done and corrected things.

It is possible that he was gently nudged in that direction. But i still feel the apology was warranted.
Title: Re:IN THE THROES

I suspect that the cover is what worked best for the times in which it was printed.  The title was the giveaway, but the art work made it easier/more acceptable for a closeted male, married or single, to take the book to the cashier of the drugstore in the town where he is known by the store's staff.  It's a curiousity item, but the male-female cover made it "okay".

There is one about one of the artists which I just saw and I can't for the life of me remember where.  It may have been an extra on a DVD I reviewed.  I'll have to think on it--I remember very clearly them showing the different versions of covers through the years as the guy adapted his style to different eras.

Arrrgh--now it's driving me crazy (a short, scenic excursion).  I think this illustrator was from SF, he was quite old in the interview segments and they showed his cover art going back to the 40s or 50s.  I'm pretty sure now it was an extra on a DVD but for the life of me I can't figure out what it was.

Reporting back from a nice luncheon with the attorney! I had Polish sausage, sauerkraut, beets and a salad, all quite wonderful, with a glass of wine. I've been playing at the computer with JoAnn, who's given my MySpace page a wonderful background and, when I'm back in Manhattan, she will help me do a slide show for the page.

DR Ginny, I hope I left a message on your phone!

BK, I meant to mention as well that I liked the new cover. I think that when sales start up on Kritzerland, I'll buy the first one as well and read them back to back, maybe front to front, too.

I spent all afternoon with the Logo series EXES AND OHS. It's a kind of THE L-WORD Lite in that it IS all about lesbians and their emotional and professional relationships, but, of course, they don't have Showtime money to shell out for big stars like Marlee Matlin, Cybill Shepherd, and Jennifer Beals.

The six episodes in the set were perfectly pleasant, OK little dramedies, but nothing outstanding. Of course, I'm sure lesbians, like gay men with QUEER AS FOLK, were delighted to have ANYTHING that portrayed facets of their lives, even if the drama was fairly predictable and the comedy was routine.

Good Evening!

I'm back from a full day of auditions... Whew!

-Of course, we ended up in the smallest room at Equity today - the one with no windows, one small ventilation vent, and a pole in the middle of the room which always makes it quite interesting when setting up the room.  The talent turnout today was pretty decent - even DR Ben's ever-lovin' Ant showed up today! - but I have to say, when I got out of there at 5:35, I was quite tired and drained.  And I'm still feeling a bit 'small'.  -But I know part of that is the cooler/colder weather.  As Genevieve asks in The Baker's Wife:  Where is the warmth?

Sometimes when you are trying to block a play, the actors suddenly forget that they have ever been onstage before, and can't figure out that we are blocking for a thrust stage and SO they shouldn't read the stage directions for a proscenium play.

Just listen to me and WRITE IT DOWN.  We are running Act One again this evening.

I had a stage manager once who would start off all run-throughs by making everyone chant:

My brains will not go out my ass.
My brains will not go out my ass.
My brains will not go out my ass.
My brains will not go out my ass.
My brains will not go out my ass.
My brains will not go out my ass....

Matt H, now that we have watched HOUSE and BONES I did as I said I would and read your comments.
As for BONES…..Keith just stated the quality of the show this season was such high quality and to end with this terrible episode is very disappointing.  We completely agree with you.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

Knowing  Zach as we did, it just isn’t plausible.  I just read an interview with Eric. (http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV-Show-Blog/Tv-Previews/Bones-Eric-Millegan/800039999)
During the interview he references episodes that didn’t happen, due to the strike, regarding Zack’s  post traumatic stress on his return from Iraq.  These would have offered more understanding to the why of what happened.  While the episodes would have been interesting,  I don’t buy that as an explanation either.

I agree completely. Would have worked a lot better for me if he had been hanging on to a man.

What weird weather we're having today.  It started with sunny blue skies, and cooler than it's been.  Then gray skies, then blue, then gray, then blue, now blue/gray.  Then we had about five minutes of rain.  That was the Valley.

On the other side of the hill it was sunny and muggy and disgusting.  In other reports, certain outlying parts of Orange County are having hugely heavy rain, I mean like one inch in thirty minutes - flooding everywhere.  In Pasadena - hail.  Back in the City of Studio - loud thunder, despite the half-sunny skies.

Perhaps it's the end of the world.

Randy and I ran an errand to an RV place in Hamilton, OH, for Joann. It was fun: we played amongst all the RV paraphernalia and things for sale and then Randy made me go through all of the display RVs; the best one cost $247,000 and it was reduced to $191,000. Who can afford these gas eaters?

So, on the way to Hamilton, Randy told me that Macbeth asked if that red car parked in his driveway was mine, and Randy said yes. He also told M that his house was only a short walk away. M's response was that I knew where he lived.

I doubt I'll see the Macbeths this visit.  Max the male german shepherd has been getting frisky with Mattie, so we think there's a dog in heat in the neighborhood. Tonight, Max climbred on Mattie and Jo ordered him to stop. I said, "Max, if you want to hump a bitch, Lady M's next door." Jo laughed. Randy didn't.

Well, I'm doing something new and exciting. I'm posting from a laptop in the living room.

Yes, we now have a laptop thanks to George W. Bush. I spent my enticement on a Dell Vostro and it came this afternoon. I set it up and it has a built in wireless card so I decided to see what would happen. Lo and behold there are a few (low power) unsecured networks in my neighborhood and I'm on the net!

Ant will be taking this with him to Wisconsin but he's not leaving until the end of July. Until then we will play with the new toy. Signals seem to be better in the living room than the bedroom and on the dining room table but not by the window. Weird. Oh, well, at least it works. Hoo and Ray!

It's past my bedtime. Night, folks.

I got online earlier today and then got distracted so although I was signed in, I was no where near the computer.  Anyway, it's been a long week lots and lots of good things happening work wise and lots and lots of work on the murder case.   I took tonight off to watch UGLY BETTY and GREY'S ANATOMY.  I'm glad I did

I am very sleepy now.  I'm working tomorrow but have no appointments or court hearings, so I'll have a chance to go to the jail and catch up pn some other things that have falled through the cracks a little

As for HOUSE:

WOW!  We thought the two part season finale was fantastic.  DR Matt H-I agree with your comments, still-great episode.  We just sat there for a few minutes after it was over.  And then we watched BONES-big mistake.

Yes, HOUSE was an expert episode, but I watched it at the worst possible time after just watching BONES. (And CSI: MIAMI, which I watched after that, was a complete downer, too; so much so that I have given up on the series.)

Anyway, now all I have to do is write it up.

I had read some bad press about UGLY BETTY's season finale, but I found it very good. Yes, there's a stupid cliffhanger, but I enjoyed the show otherwise.

I just love Betty's father, and Eddie Cibrian as Hilda's potential new boy friend - YUM!

GREY'S ANATOMY had a crowded and very enjoyable set of stories on its two hour season finale. One of the most satisfying season finales I have seen this year.

Can't wait to see what LOST comes up with next week.

There is the dumbest commercial here for Screen Builders...they have a sort of prefab screened in porch thing. It's this couple going out on to their porch like it's a vacation. He comes in and says "Hey, Honey" she says in a very whiny voice "I hate that shirt"  he says "I always wear this on vacation"

I think, sheesh! What a nasty way to treat someone

I saw Indiana Jones today at the "The Dome". I had not been there in a while and forgot just how impressive it was. I sat in the 4th row center and was very happy :)

For those who haven't seen it and are worried about the tales you have been hearing about how far out there the plot is - remember -  the other movies weren't exactly believable either.

Yes, there is a lot of CGI - only a minor portion of it really sticks out though. Yes, you see where all the plot points are going from the very beginning. Yes, the stunts have crossed into the realm of the entirely unbelievable, like most action movies these days. But mostly the movie is fun and funny and filled with Indy jokes.

We had a wonderful work session with Miss Jenna Green and Miss Emily Rozek - how fun it was to see Emily again and to meet Jenna.  We decided on the program for the event and it's going to be really swellegant.  We have to do one more little work session next week, then we don't get together again until the band rehearsal the day before.

The Dome is impressive, but the way they show movies is not.  The projection is too dim and it is foolish to show 35mm scope on a Cinerama-sized screen designed for 70mm - I simply will not go there.  I have a screening of Indy on Monday at the DGA - that's where to see movies.

I ate some chicken for dinner, whilst watching a Charlie Chan movie - unfortunately the power in the den crashed four times, which was very annoying.  Clearly there is a short somewhere between the breaker and that section of the house that involves the den and the guest bathroom.

I am sure that Fred and Skip would appreciate a few vibes sent their way.  While we were at lunch, Skip received a phone call from the director of STARFIGHTER informing him that their leading man's (he plays Alex) father had suffered a stroke.  Hopefully, everything will work itself out, but the first performance is tomorrow night.

That definitely was some unexpected news. :-\

Every year at the volunteer appreciation dinner, they have door prizes.  This year, I won two tickets to Harlequin Productions' production of "Antony and Cleopatra" in October!  Value=$66!  It was the big prize!  If I had gotten there on time, I wouldn't have gotten the ticket that I got and I wouldn't have won.  So it's a good thing, all around!
