I broked into my "Carmen Miranda" DVD box last night and played "The Gang's All Here."  The good news is that it's light years better than the version Fox released with the "Alice Faye" DVD box.

The not-so-good news is that while it seems to be richer in color than the laserdisc, my favorite scene in the film (A Journey to a Star) is considerably "off", for lack of a better word.  It looks just fine on the laserdisc, but on this DVD it seems to be slightly out of focus and too deeply saturated.  One would think, given all the miracles of digital imagery, that they could have made this version "definitive."

Re: That scene  -- perhaps they'll never go any further, as these things go.  But it's a crying shame.

That said, the overall look of the film is vastly better than both the laser and the first DVD abomination.

The first two were one butterfly; the second two photos were a different butterfly.

In between, the caterpillars eat ALL of the passion vine. All of it.

Jack, did you go to File (File, Edit, View, History, etc) at the top of the toolbar? The drop down menus contain a click for New Tab. You can also use Ctrl-T to open another tab.

I have some office stuff I need to do before heading downstairs. Then, I'll check the mail and think about what's for lunch.

Is this totally "in nature"?  Or is it a more landscaped environment?

I've heard of seed packs for flowers that attract butterflies and wonder if anyone here has ever planted any.

It's really quite simple.

Just don't look in a mirror until all the swelling has abated.

I think I will watch Captain Scarface, a 1953 movie in which saboteurs try to blow up the Panama Canal with an atomic bomb.  I do not know why they would want to do that, but I have a feeling that this is not a Hitchcock film.

The City of San Francisco has announced it is looking into making it LEGAL for bicyclists to roll through -- with caution, of course -- traffic lights and stop signs.

I'm not quite sure why common sense has abandoned whoever announced this will be "considered."  The bicyclists all do it anyway.  And anyone who has the misfortune of hitting a bicyclist when one of them runs a light or a sign is always deemed GUILTY (for not being on the lookout for same).

I'm very pro-bicycles, but I strongly believe that ANYONE riding on a street or road is BOUND to follow the rules of the road.  That doesn't mean head-of-line privileges or running through lights/stop signs just because no traffic is coming or passing on the right and giving automobile drivers heart attacks when they see a bicyclist inches away from the right rear fender of their cars.'

To "enact" this, thank goodness, the city will need the state legislature to rewrite existing laws.  And that requires a "vote".

It was my inaugural visit with Carmen on screen.   What fun!   :D

I have a few things that the butterflies nectar on, but I planted some passion vine last year, and that is the larval food for gulf fritillary butterflies. They found it and I have had to buy more passion vines and move the caterpillars when they have eaten all the leaves.

I'm glad you got your supply of Duke's from DR Jose.

I discovered I can get 4 32-oz jars of Duke's via Amazon for $16.16, but the shipping is $18.

I think not.

There is much good in the USPS flat-rate box...two sizes, one perfect for four jars of Duke's...and under $10 postage, too.

It IS fun, isn't it!  And Alice Faye never looked more beautiful, IMO.

I do get other butterflies in the yard, too. But when the monsoon comes, the sulphur butterflies will come, too.

I can hardly wait for volume two of the Alice Faye collection on DVD.  Sadly, I'll have to wait for a possible volume three for "Tin Pan Alley".

Not unless you were transgendering during the film.

I decided to bypass the Carmen Miranda box and instead cherry-picked individual titles from some of the other boxed sets.

Thursday morning greetings!  Another sunny, cool, low-humidity day here in SW Ohio.  This evening I will leave the house for the first time since last Wednesday to attend my book group.
