I just read that CBS has canceled SECRET TALENTS OF THE STARS which aired its one and only episode on Tuesday to very poor ratings (maybe JERICHO's ratings aren't looking so bad any more, eh?)

Jason has a dreamy insouciance that I expesct appeals to many viewers.

I also expect Carly's previous performances will keep her safe.

Is "insouciance: worth $10?

Perhaps a soupçon of that amount.

ROTFL....all I remember of that is that tacky promo that ended with George Takei ineptly tackling a country/western song .

His was the name I could remember, and none of them were "stars", per se.

I prefer "scatalogically".

And just try getting a priest to pronounce "decade" correctly when referring to a 10-year period.

Yes, you seem to have a coterie of ardent admirers here.  I expect that if you leave a used napkin, or a partially eaten pork chop, when dining out that one of them will snatch it up and have it mounted or something.

I dunno about that. There hasn't been any mounting in connection with my life for at least a dozen years.

George's public embarassment was the lowlight of the show.

DR Ginny, it is always fun to read the clever ways you tie the refreshments into your books.

Thanks, DR Jane!  This one was a stretch, but came together OK.  I got some ideas from a book called Wild Women Throw a Party, which has a chapter titled "Dorothy Parker's Cocktail Party."

Well, it should be at least the square root of -1; that is imaginary!

I really did hit the mother lode of DVDs today.

I meantioned earlier that I got the Paramount review copy of HOW SHE MOVE. However, I can't start on it tomorrow as I had planned. I got also in the mail today the screeners of 5 Criterion discs as well as THE GOLDEN COMPASS. The UPS man CAME BACK and brought with him three more review copies: two volumes of THE BIG GAY SKETCH COMEDY SHOW (season 1 and season 2 in separate cases) as well as another BET show, this one a gospel music special with Shirley Caesar.

Then, I got two boxes of Amazon orders (BARON MUNCHAUSEN on Blu-ray and A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE which they had on sale very cheaply - alas, not Blu-ray and the musicalx box which I was talking about earlier.)

So, I'm set for awhile in terms of viewing for pleasure and also for work.

Put in my order for the DVD of EVENING PRIMROSE (via the link provided here yesterday). So now I've got the audio AND the video en route!

LA TIMES

Quote
A GOLDEN AGE FOR CABLE TV DRAMAS

The Emmy race for best series heats up with "Mad Men," "Dexter" and "Tudors" scoring some early attention.

No non-HBO cable network has ever broken into this category. So, can AMC ("Mad Men"), Showtime ("Dexter," "The Tudors"), FX ("Damages," "The Riches") or TNT ("The Closer," "Saving Grace") prevail at last?

LA TIMESder Brucer

DEXTER has had a chance before this year to make it into the top 5 and didn't, so I'm not hopeful of its chances. Ditto TNT's entries no matter how deserving.

Of those mentioned, I think MAD MEN has the best shot. It seems universally adored, but there's no '24' this year, GREY'S ANATOMY has had a mediocre season, too, though it might sneak in just from habit. HEROES, which made the cut last year, probably won't make it this year.

So, I'm guessing LOST, MAD MEN, HOUSE, DAMAGES, and GREY'S ANATOMY.

OK, so I'll admit it--I bought a CD from that Australian eBay guy who is the bane of CASTRECL.  For years I've wanted to hear OLC of "Ambassador," so I got it from him--it's obviously never going to get an authorized release, so I justify it that way.  The score, while old-fashioned, is quite enjoyable.  Does anybody know who played the second female lead?  She almost sounds like Phyllis Diller, but something tells me Phyl didn't do this one.  ;)

I still have to catch up on DVD viewing - Daisy Kenyon next, then Solomon and Sheba, Kings Of The Sun, and Taras Bulba.

Forgot to mention that if there's an upset entry it could be THE WIRE on HBO which had a critically hosannahed season for its final year on the air.

He likes to watch.

So does Chance (aka Chauncey Gardner) in "Being There."

It doesn't list which performer played which part, but according to CastAlbumDB.com, here's the list of singers for Ambassador:

Toni-Sue Burley
Margaret Courtenay
Danielle Darrieux
Blain Fairman
Neville Jason
Howard Keel
Judith Paris
Isobel Stuart
David Wheldon-Williams
Nevil Whiting

Of course DR JMK could have easily had a copy of "Ambassador" from Australia - FREE!
