Thanks to all for the job vibes. I've already applied to two positions this morning. They just keep going out.
Hey, DR Elmore, how is the musical theater book? Worth a look?
Wednesday morning greetings! Good sleeping last night with our windows open. Today we're going to Kenwood Towne Center for my Vera visit and then come home to rest and enjoy SOUTH PACIFIC on PBS.

Maybe it's a delayed broadcast?
And the word of the day is: INSOUCIANCE!

Maybe--so that the censors would have time to block out the bare ass sailors?
Bare Ass Sailors
That is the title of my new memoir.
I have sent DR MBARNUM an envelope containing Mr Steve Cochran and Miss Belita.
BTW, when I posted last night about TCM showing the colorized version of THE QUIET MAN, I was being facetious. The color was just so awful that it resembled those movies that Turner colorized during the 90's.

I'm not sure, but I think the picture was made in Republic's Trucolor, which was awful.
THE QUIET MAN is one of my very favorite films, but there are some shots in there that are strange if not downright wacky.

When I was in Ireland back in 1999, I visited the village of Cong where the movie was filmed. Indeed, the entire economy of that town is now based on the fact that THE QUIET MAN was shot there. There's "THE QUIET MAN pub," THE QUIET MAN laundry," etc.
I have some photographs of the village in my upcoming book.

LOL! I was thinking about how nice it would be to look for TQM locations in Ireland as I was watching the movie last night. I should have known that it would all be commercialized.
"...and for an evening of impetuous and Homeric romance, be sure to spend a night at the Woman of the House Inn. Free souvenir stick to beat your lovely lady. Wipe your feet!"
According to the "Live From Lincoln Center" site, it will be shown at 8 pm, not 8:30 on Channel 13.

I keep getting "[an error occurred while processing this directive]" for my local PBS station when I lookup the show time.

Actually, they've rebuilt the cottage that Wayne/O'Hara lived in. It's a museum.
I have a photo of it in the book.

Kidz!!! I'm high in the sky over northern California on my way back to Seattle, RIGHT THIS MINUTE!!! OH, m'gosh!! Wireless internet while flying (speaking of flying gazelles!!) is so mind-blowing!!!!
The sucky thing about these three hour plus GREAT PERFORMANCES broadcasts (of which SOUTH PACIFIC will be a part of tonight) is that while I'll have no problem recording the entire broadcast, my DVD recorder cannot burn anything longer than a two hours to a disc. I can still copy an entire show to disc, but I have no control over where the split will occur. There's always the hope that a GREAT PERFORMANCES broadcast will be sold commercially, but I have the feeling that the R&H organization won't allow this one to go immediately on the market.
I really need to get off my butt and start looking for a Blu-Ray player and recorder so I can save these longer broadcasts to one disc.

Does your tv have a schedule? The local paper? Weekly tv guide?
One of my PBS stations has it from 8-11pm and the other from 9-midnight. But i think many are reshowing it this weekend.
I think I figured out why my legs were hurting this morning. It was very windy on my way back yesterday. So i think it took a lot of extra leg power.
I think if you broke your arm you'd know it. I knew it. Boy, did I know it.

Back from a delightful outing that had nothing to do with my physical condition - how refreshing! Visited the Vera Bradley store and chatted briefly with my friend Patty from northern KY. Just did my 15:30 walk and realized that I'm now more than halfway to the 30/day goal of Phase 1!
DR Jane - I'm so impressed that Keith was able to function after his procedure and glad it went well with a good outcome.
I will be getting partial plates from the dental clinic, and today I had another tooth extracted to facilitate the procedure. When my mother was about my age, she had nearly every tooth in her head pulled for plates. While i'd rather keep what i have, 20 years of no dental insurance and congenitally missing teeth because of my Appalachian white trash background have made the plates a necessary evil and I hope i come to love them.
While the pain is not so excruciating as the last extraction in July, it is still painful, and I'm just uncomfortable enough to be unhappy about it. I just took two Tylenol with codeine and a Tylenol PM. As soon as I know the VCR is taping SOUTH PACIFIC, I am turning off the lights and passing out. I have to be up tomorrow morning at 6:30 for the McGlinnventory, and I want to get plenty of rest tonight.

Jane, with the exception of the two black kittens and one black/white, this is the most interestingly-marked litter of kittens we have ever had.
Dance Movies.....Really fine movie. I liked Roger Ebert's comment that it actually seems to want to be a silent movie. There's little dialogue and little of what's there adds anything to the story of watching the dancers rehearse and perform.
I of course love THE RED SHOES and there is a contemporary dance movie called THE COMPANY that is most interesting and entertaining with some fine dancing in it. It is from director Robert Altman and stars Neve Campbell & James Franco.

The highlight of my day was a telephone caller to work asking for PHANTOM OF THE OPERA starring Javier Bardem.

When I had the two hairline fractures in my wrist I immediately knew even though no one believed it until the x-rays. When I broke my shoulder in four places I didn't know it. ;D I assure you the pain level was so high I should have known. I began to suspect on the way to the hospital I would need surgery.
Good morning, all!
Apropros of not much: Reading the notes about Stravinsky, I'm reminded of when I first listened to "Rite of Spring" (Le sacre du printemps for all you French snobs out there) in an undergraduate music elective, and was absolutely blown away. Back then, I had just started to explore Sondheim's works, so hearing an earlier composer using "dissonances" melodically was an absolute thrill.
Somewhere in my LP collection is a recording of "Rite of Spring" performed as a two-piano piece from Stravinsky's early scoring (i.e. what the Ballet Russe rehearsed to before they got the full orchestra in). I really have to dig that up again...
Here's the link to the German site with the cut Psycho footage - I do think I posted this at some point yesterday:

Everybody must have been watching SOUTH PACIFIC. I had some quibbles with the TV direction.

Today is DR Jhvw and his twin david's birthday!
