Hi,

Just dropping by to say, "Hello".

It's been a very long day of running around, doing things here in Austin to get our house ready for us to move in.

They're currently putting in the landscaping.  Tomorrow, they will put up the rain gutters and install the security system.

I'm falling asleep, so "Goodnight".

For some reason whenever I am on the telephone my wireless internet connection disconnects.

I know not why, but it sure is annoying.

What frequency is your phone - if it's the older 2 point something, that's the reason.  You need to get 5.8hz.

Good Evening!

We ran Act 1 tonight, and, I believe, we may actually have a show somewhere in the midst of all that "What-Do-I-Do-Now"-ness. ;)

*Of course, tomorrow is Act 2 and "Springtime for Hitler", as well as "Prisoners of Love" - a.k.a. Two Finales Too Many - so.... ::)

If you don't have the "sheaths" on the jacks, that will also cause it.

"Sheaths" on the Jacks is of course the title of my next novel.

DR Cillaliz - Hmm... Now that I think of it, I think it was a just a "Tornado Watch", not a "Warning".  -Otherwise, I'm pretty sure they would have interrupted the pledge drive pleas.  (I hope.)

So...

When the server brought my dessert, he asked/announced, "Ah, you must be, Jose!".

Hmm... How did he know my name?

When Andrew gave me my bill, I asked him how the waiter knew my name.  It turns out that instead of putting my table/seat position on the kitchen order tickets, he actually put my name.  Even my bill had my name on it.

I guess that officially makes me a regular at FIG.  :)

*Oh, and tonight's dinner - which was composed of a couple of "small plates":

Frisée Salad - garlic, bacon, poached Sea Island Farm egg
Windy Knoll Farm Lamb Tartare with Maxim Potatoes (basically the best potato chips you could ever have)
Mint-Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (two scoops of some of the best ice cream I've ever had!!!! - and I really do mean that)

Probably was a watch.  A warning usually doesn't last for 2 hours.  It goes off, you take cover and when the threat has passed they tell you it's ok to leave your shelter.

I had a very entertaining evening of film and TV choices.

I began with the Blu-ray of GIGI. Compared to the ancient DVD I had, the Blu-ray is a revelation. That old Metrocolor is obviously hard to control since it sometimes blooms even in high definition, but for the most part, apart from occasionally ruddy skintones, I thought it looked quite splendid.

And the Dolby TrueHD audio track was quite wonderful full without overpowering the singers.

Is it a cordless phone? I found out I had the same problem during our HHW Oscar party when someone called me twice while I was on-line, and the second I picked up, I lost my signal.

Oh... I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet here in HHW, but...

Patelson Music House in NYC will be closing their doors on April 18. They are currently running a "25%-Off Spring Inventory Sale", and I'm wondering if any other discounts will be introduced over the next week and a half.

I was in there recently and it was so bare, I asked if they were going out of business. They assured me they were not. Too bad. I loved that store, and the Patelsons were lovely folk.

Patelson's was always somewhat of a mixed-bag for me, and eventually became, more or less, a "necessary evil".  The first time I went in there about 20 years ago, I was truly awed by the store - especially the bins of used music.  I still remember finding some gently used copies of some Britten song cycles.

However, even back then, I found the quality and knowledge of some of the staff quite appalling at times.  There were more than a few times when I found myself helping out other customers, and basically correcting some of the sales staff in the process.  If one of the clerks did not see something immediately on the shelves in the back, they would automatically tell the customers that it was either no longer in print or never existed in print.  Did you check in this collection? I would even end up referring some people to the music store in Virginia I was working at at the time.  Well, I know I just ordered two copies of that for the store...

In any case, sheet music stores are a true scarcity nowadays, and Patelson's will be missed.  It really is a piece of New York City's musical history.  At least Frank Music on 54th still seems to be hanging in there.

After I finished GIGI, I watched the making of documentary. At one point, Caron admitted being shocked that she had been dubbed by Betty Wand in the movie; she thought they were going to use her own singing voice. Then, they played a bit of "Say a Prayer for Me Tonight" with Leslie's vocal, and it's SO terrible. Can't believe she thought that it would be acceptable singing.

The Rhino soundtrack which has all of Leslie's vocals is very revealing. Her work is as bad as most of Rosalind Russell's attempts at singing Rose's songs in GYPSY.

Tomorrow I'll do the rest of GIGI's special features: the commentary, the 1949 original movie of GIGI, the two shorts, and the trailer.

At an early moment in tonight's CHUCK I got VERY irritated and almost turned it off forever. I was so tired of his handlers not listening or believing in him. But then the plot took some really interesting turns and I just loved the episode.

And I REALLY loved Adam Baldwin playing "computer geek" complete with spastic body language and faux enthusiasm. He's so unappreciated on this series. I wish he could get a show of his own some day.

'24' had another taut, terrific episode. Jon Voight's character is really showing his true colors now: an evil megalomaniac if there ever was one!

I thoroughly enjoyed MEDIUM tonight, but once again I was way ahead of their surprise revelations.

Once the scar on the sister's cheek was alluded to, I began piecing it all together as each little bit of info in the dreams was revealed. I wasn't surprised at all when the brother and "sister" kissed because I had figured it all out by then.

Can you top the time I walked into a Portland sheet music emporium and asked a clerk, "Do you have 'A Simple Song" from Bernstein's Mass?"  "We might--what's the name of it?," asked the clueless clerk.  (Think about it for a mo').
