Well, you've read the notes, the notes were outre and intre, and now it is time for you to post until the mootre cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BARIATRICS!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Ooh, I'm the first post after BK - I think.
-
There has been no appearance this month of DRs Rodzinski and DtM.
I know Tom has been seen in NYC but the missing Dan is a concern (given his health issues of last year). Emails are being bounced back!
-
Good Morning!
I'm ba-ack... -Just not sleepy yet, so...

There are people from the City that Never Sleeps.

Thanks for the tour, Jose! Makes me really look forward to revisiting my stomping grounds (and discovering Amy's Bread!)

I've also been enjoying reading the adventures on the town of C+Jx2.
-
And since it's 4:15 and I have showered off all the dust, I will say goodnight.
"Goodnight, Jose!"
-
Goodnight, DR edisaurus.

And since I have been so remiss lately, this is for DR DearReaderLaura and/or DR Sandra... And everyone else too ;)

OH! And then there was this:

Good morning S Woody. Hello North America.
Goodnight.

And the word of the day is: BARIATRICS!
Though quite lean herself, Barbara became obsessed with BARIATRICS when she learned that almost half of her friends had had gastric bypass surgery. The way she figured it, it was either become interested in the proceedure or find a new set of friends.

Good night, Tomovoz. Sleep well.

Good morning, all! A morning at the office, and an email to the Library of Congress with the call numbers of the things I'll want to check on this week's trip.
Last night I watched the most god-awful children's film with the most appalling CGI scenery and fake music and the most frightening cast ever assembled, LITTLE RED RIDINGHOOD. whenever I see Joey Fatone's name, all I see - and this film reinforces it - Joey Fat One. He plays the wolf, only he's a werewolf in this version. Henry Cavill must be thrilled he's in THE TUDORS because this film, in which he plays the exciting dual role of Hunter and pizza delivery boy, would have killed his career.
I wached this turkey because I'm weeding out the pileup of unwatched DVDs. This film is neither a keeper not a watchable entity. The people who give it good reviews on Amazon.com must be friends of the director or cast.
Off to the mines.
-
Hello and Goodbye, DR ELMORE. On your way to grandmother's house, no doubt....
-
Congrats to DR DAKOTA CELT on her 9000 posts!
-
Thanks to DRs DAKOTA CELT and EDISAURUS....yes the long nightmare is over.....but THE SUNSHINE BOYS is now ahead of me....whew.
And I get to work today! But it is only for six hours or so.....I think I can do that.

Lifelong quandaries like: "How in the world have I accumulated so much crap"?
-
DH, my own in-house technical geek, figured out how to transfer VHS to DVD and had done 5 shows he had worked on to one DVD, with the titles of the shows, when they aird, etc. Boy, that's going to free up some shelf space. Unfortunately, he's figured this out after I've already packed my VHS tapes and put them in storage. Something for me to do at the new house...
-
DR Jose, did you cry when you got rid of your car? I keep mine for years and spend so much time driving that I get irrationally attached to my cars and feel like I'm abandoning them!
-
But then again, I cry easily...
-
Lifelong quandaries like: "How in the world have I accumulated so much crap"?
Just like that!! :D
-
Wow! With those pictures, I have already been to NYC this morning.
Goodbye, Car!!
-
I am surprised to find that moving out of this house is a very emotional thing for me. I have lived here all of my adult life, 27 years, and the unknown scares me, although I think I will like the new place. In my cleaning I occasionally run across things from my past life with my ex. Then there's the fear that the cats, who are all such creatures of habit, will not adapt, since this is the only home they've ever known. We have our routines...when I walk in the door, little Ociee goes to the spot were she does somersaults until we rub her tummy, etc. and the others have the spots they land to get petted, etc.
The thought that we won't be doing these things in these places EVER AGAIN makes me sad for some reason, although I know we will establish new rituals at the new house.
And then when I see friends here in Marietta and they seem so sad that we're moving, I feel like crying then, and usually do. BUT WE'RE ONLY MOVING 15 MILES AWAY!!!
Maybe this is bringing up stuff from my childhood and moving almost every year when my father was in the service, but boy, it's annoying. Maybe once I start getting furniture into the new house it will start feeling like ours.
-
Just like that!! :D
No...I had 27 years to do it, and apparently was very dilligent about it!
-
I absolutely LOVED those pictures from the barn last night! Those people are so lucky!
I would be thrilled to drive even one of those cars!
-
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Tucker car in there somewhere!
-
I know Tom has been seen in NYC but the missing Dan is a concern (given his health issues of last year). Emails are being bounced back!
I was able to send a PM to DR DtM some days ago, but as of yet have not had a response. Nor one from DR Julie, but I assume that DR FJL would let us know if anything was amiss.
-
Does anyone have DtM's phone number?
-
I am taking inspiration from Music Guy to remain positive during the move.
Back to more packing and sneezing and dusting. The books are the worst---the next worst thing will be the LP's. I've filled up two dozen wine boxes already, even with the purging!
Fortunately, no cats have been purging!
-
DR DakotaCelt: CONRATS indeed on your new plateau! And continued ***VIBES*** for your father.
DR Matt H: The Ellery Queen series is available to purchase in ootleg-bay version from the site that DR Vixmom posted the other day.
DR td, WONDERFUL health news about your mum.
Loved your editing class story, DR Edisaurus!
No reports yet on HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2.
Welcome back to DR MusicGuy.
I am listening to the streaming audio of Brooke Astor's memorial service from Saint Thomas Fifth Avenue, NY, NY. My, that choir is fine!
-
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Tucker car in there somewhere!
And probably an Edsel as well.
-
And a Onesie.
-
Stars and planets wise, DR EDISAURUS, this is a very good time to move, travel, and find new digs.
Permanent or temporary.....
Just remember....don't take an old broom into a new house, and buy a new box of salt for your new kitchen.
-
I'm on my two-sies.
-
Work calls, and I must answer.
I am taking things in to change the store over from SUMMER to FALL....
-
Good morning!
Another hot day in store with no rain in sight. The week looks much the same. I had thought it might be cool enough this morning to open doors and widows and air out the house, but it wasn't.
-
I really enjoy the succession of fun pictures of DR Jason last night. The one with Homer SImpson was priceless.
-
Thanks for some walking tour photos, DR Jose. I enjoyed seeing those. Didn't know about the Katharine Hepburn street sign, so appreciated getting to see it.
-
Yes, I knew about the bootleg ELLERY QUEEN DVDs. They've been peddling them on Ebay for years (for outrageous prices) which I won't pay. I can't believe Universal won't at some point want to release it.
I also keep hoping that either the Universal HD channel or the SLEUTH channel (owned by Universal) would start running them, but so far, nothing.
-
Today I'll be concentrating once again on UGLY BETTY. I'm planning at one point in the afternoon to take a break and watch something else fairly short - maybe a Judy Garland Show (TV) or HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2.
But for most of the day it will be UGLY BETTY.
-
I read in the newspaper that the premiere broadcast of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 broke all records for a cable broadcast premiere - 17+ million, beating even the first Monday Night Football game premiere on ESPN which logged 16 million.
-
Good Morning HHW!!!
Nice pictures Jose!
-
I was reading an article in yesterday's USA Today about a street in Brooklyn called Coney Island Avenue that is culturally diverse. Are any of the NYC HHWers familiar with that area?
-
MBarnum, not sure if you caught my question yesterday...
Are you familiar with the Indian film, PARTNER?

MBarnum, not sure if you caught my question yesterday...
Are you familiar with the Indian film, PARTNER?
Yes, I actually went and saw it at the theater a couple of weeks ago. It was not a bad film...but it wasn't great. Salman Khan takes his shirt off frequently, so that was worth the price of admission...oh, and the great fried pakoras served in the lobby during admission was a plus, also.
-
Loved all the photos last night of DR Jason's hat modeling and the NY shots.
How I miss NYC and the NY HHWers!
-
It started raining last night, which was actually rather nice and refreshing..and now I do not need to water the yard! ;D
Rainy days are also good days to sit on the couch and movie watch all day long, which I think is what I will do.
-
Last night's Bollywood feature was BOMBAY TO GOA (1972)...a cute comedy that has quite a cult following...I am not sure why...it didn't seem particularly special...other then it had a huge load of Bollywood comedians in it. The story was about a odd assortment of bus passengers travelling from Bombay to Goa. Lots of special guest star appearences in the IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD way.

The glass building on the left side is the gorgeous Alvin Ailey School and sometimes you can look through its windows and see gorgeous dancers. It's one of those wonderful pieces of architecture that seems to have transformed the entire neighborhood. It used to be a corner of hell's kitchen that wasn't particularly attractive, non-descript. Now, well, I'm pretty pleased to be on 55th, West of 9th.

DR Ginny ~ I'm sure you already posted the answer to this question, but refresh my memory: How did you find your NYC sublet?
Found it first listed on Craig's List, then cross-referenced it on vacationrentals.com, and got input about the neighborhood from DRs Ben, Noel, Elmore, and Jose.

and no case will go unsolved Karen!

singdaw - Julie really misses the HHW board, but has been so incredibly busy with Starfighter stuff. She will definitely be back. She definitely has not left the board.
-
Today's guest speaker is a young man who grew up in our church. I taught him Sunday School briefly, as I recall. He became a minister and got a church out of state and has a lovely wife and three children.
-
dakota - Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn runs for a good number of miles, with only the very end of it actually being in the Brighton Beach/Coney Island vicinity of interest to tourists and funseekers. So it runs through many neighborhoods, includes many homes and businesses.
Much like Broadway in Manhattan as a street - people think of Broadwy as the theaters, but it spans many miles of diverse neighborhoods.

DR Noel ~ You wouldn't happen to know any good casting agents who will come check out Cason and the rest of The Brain cast, do ya? ...
-
Oh, my goodness, DR Ginny, you're staying on THAT block?? Not a bad neighborhood AT ALL. As DR Jose said, I worked on 54th between 9th & 10th Avenue for nearly 3 years, and found myself at the office at odd hours several times and always felt very safe. And it's SO easy to get a cab in that neighborhood...they run like mad on 9th Avenue (going downtown). There's a supermarket (D'Agostino's) just down the block, on 10th Avenue, and another one up a few blocks on 57th & 9th, and you're only 4 blocks from the N, R, W, Q, E, B & D trains, so that's convenient. And, as DR Noel pointed out, there're lots of gorgeous (quite often, half naked) dancers contorting themselves in the first floor studio of the Alvin Ailey Building. I don't even know how they do half of what they do.
Color me a little bit jealous! :)
-
Vibes to Julie and Starfighter...
Continued vibes to bk and BRAIN!

I can vouch for the gorgeous dancers thing -- I've been there several times to hold auditions for Movin' Out and to scout talent for same. They have the best studios in town, hands down, for dance auditions. The only downside is the immediate 'hood is not exactly overflowing with great lunch options. We usually end up going to the deli on the corner for sandwiches (which aren't bad, except they give you chips, which I'm not crazy about because... well, I want to eat them) and Twyla's rare roast beef, when she's around.

All the photos and talk of NYC have me all pumped for my trip to NYC...
-
Well, I should hie myself to the Broad Way. It waits for no one, you know.
Today, our little hamlet of 45th Street becomes just a little more desolate, as both FROST/NIXON and DEUCE are closing. That leaves just AVENUE Q, A CHORUS LINE and THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING, which will be closing next Sunday. Oh, and THE LION KING, which will never close...but it's so far up the block that we don't even consider it to be part of the family. Same goes for CURTAINS, which is on the other side of 8th Avenue. What the hell am I going on about?
Ciao-ders!
-
I'm up, but am going to lay back down again. Miss Alet Taylor was supposed to rehearse today and tomorrow with Miss Patti, as she's not arriving in NY until the evening of the 5th of September, but there seems to have been some miscommunication.
-
DR Swinging-On-A-Star ~ How's DD's recovery going? Hope he's back to his old self. Post a photo!

Hello, HHW!
Wow, it took me a long time to catch up on all the posts.
Jason, very cute photos of you.

Well, that's good to hear... I was thinking of re-starting on the dubs (Weight Watchers) again on Monday, having been inspired by DR Jason's journey. And by my own fat ass. ;) Perhaps I will get to the bottom of my life-long (or at least, since high school) quandary of why I am such a fatass. :D Two years ago I joined the dubs and lost 30 lbs, then got the job I'm currently in, and was so busy and stressed that I just gave up on it. It just got to be too much to pay attention to all the counting and planning and meetings and stuff... but in retrospect I probably would have been better off trying to make it work and staying healthy rather than just giving up. Eating healthy and exercising would have given me more energy and more of an outlet for my stress.
Well, live and learn... and just keep trying, I guess.
:-\ :)

And many of the communities live in relative peace. The article I read remarked on that. You are lucky since you can experience different cultures, foods and folkways.
It's one of my favorite things about NYC. I go to visit family in Arizona, and I experience the worst culture shock every time. Not a black, brown, or any other color face for miles -- except for the support staff workers, like kitchen staff, etc.... :o :( It creeps me out. But here... you can stand on a subway car and hear and see a plethora of cultures, languages, etc.; and nobody cares what anybody else is up to. Everyone minds their business, for the most part. And yet, when someone is in trouble, there's always a helping hand around -- I've seen so many cases of perfect strangers helping each other carry strollers up and down stairs, holding doors, helping pick up dropped items, and so forth. I LOVE this town!
-
Edi,
I understand your anxiety at leaving your house. I, too, get very attached to my houses. My home is my sanctuary. I put a lot of myself into it and it's difficult to let go! The first house I bought was especially difficult because it was the first. But once I made the break I was fine. Everything since then has been so much better!
LETTING GO VIBES!
-
I envy those you going to NYC... Have fun and take care!
-
I have been to Boston and Washington. Matter of fact on one of the trips to DC, I even attended a play at Ford's Theatre.
-
Letting go vibes for Edi... ((hugs))
-
DRs Joy and Jason - thanks to you both for your comments about our future (although temporary, alas) home in NYC!

... Mercury Bar, Vintage, Julian's, that crazy Italian place where they pass out tambourines and play "Dancing Queen" and "Amore" and dance on chairs...

DR Jose, did you cry when you got rid of your car? I keep mine for years and spend so much time driving that I get irrationally attached to my cars and feel like I'm abandoning them!
DR edisaurus - I did not cry at all. In fact, I was giddy and relieved(!) once I had made the final arrangements to have it towed away (courtesy of Vehicles for Charity). It was a good car, but I had really not driven it since January - it was staying on the street outside of Steve's place in Richmond. And it really was about to break down for good, as it was, so... :)
-
LETTING GO VIBES!
Thank you, Jeanne. This is my "starter house" so I understand hoe you felt. I talked to my DH about it today over breakfast and he had some encouraging things to say.
And DR JRand's post made me very happy!

And yet, when someone is in trouble, there's always a helping hand around -- I've seen so many cases of perfect strangers helping each other carry strollers up and down stairs, holding doors, helping pick up dropped items, and so forth. I LOVE this town!
Neat!
That is one thing I love about working in an academic library, you often see people from different countries. Granted we dont have the diversity of NYC or even London but it is more than what Fargo used to be. Fargo has a growing Kurdish, Hindi/Pakistani, Somali, Chinese, Vietnamese, Bosnian, Liberian and Sudanese.
I embrace the difference but sadly there are those narrowminded nitwits in the area who want to make life miserable for them.

I would love to see Cason end up on episode of Law and Order or perhaps a soap or some other show. Perhaps become EXTREMEly famous in musical theatre!

Thank you, Jeanne. This is my "starter house" so I understand hoe you felt. I talked to my DH about it today over breakfast and he had some encouraging things to say.
And DR JRand's post made me very happy!
DR Edi, perhaps it will now become someone else's "starter house" and will be filled with such warmth and good vibes, that the new owner will be as much in love with it as you are and will take good care of it!

DR Ginny - You're welcome. El Centro on the northwest corner of 54th & 9th has some great Mexican food (not Tex-Mex) and killer margaritas. And if you keep going down 54th to 10th, there is a great little coffee shop on the northeast corner. And if you keeping walking further down, you can attend a show at Ars Nova (http://www.arsnovanyc.com), or attend a taping of "The Colbert Report" next door - the "The Daily Show" moved to a new studio a few blocks away.

Someday I would like to visit the Big Apple. My goal is also to someday go to Ireland.
-
Well... I had planned to head down to Richmond this weekend to see my aunt, but then I got called in to play for a couple more ACL shows as well as the Mary Poppins auditions on Friday. I had been thinking I would just go ahead and fly down tonight after the show, and fly back up tomorrow night. I've been checking for flights this morning, and there are still some reasonably priced round-trips available. Then I started looking at the weather reports for tonight and tomorrow, and I guess Hurricane Dean is already making it's presence known further up the coast. And the forecast for tomorrow both in Richmond and New York is for rain and thunderstorms, so... I really can't risk not getting back to NYC tomorrow night since I'm playing Tuesday morning, so... And the Amtrak schedules aren't working in my favor either... :-\
-
DR Jose - sorry it's not going to work out for you to visit with your aunt. Sounds like you'd better stay in NYC.
-
Congrats DR JOSE on the additional shows and auditions!
Disconcerting on unable to travel...
-
WE have been getting a lot of rain up here lately also but much heavier rains in Minnesota and Wisconsin which desperately need rain. However, downpours can be far worse than a gentle rain.
-
DR Jose - sorry it's not going to work out for you to visit with your aunt. Sounds like you'd better stay in NYC.
Thanks, DR Ginny - Of course, I could have always said, "No," to the last-minute gigs this past week.... However, the only "comfort" I have is the fact that the airlines are already posting Travel Advisories on their site in regards to Hurricane Dean.
I guess that means I'll have to make a trip to Seattle in October. ;)

Well, time for me to get ready for my matinee.

So come back in September! I would love to meet you!
If I hadn't depleted my vacation time I would. I will need to accumulate some more over the next few months before I can head north, south, east, or west again.
And of course I need to let DR Elmore3003 get over my previous visit before I can request sleeping quarters on his fire escape again. And who knows how long that will take!

I still have some vacation time but flying out of Fargo to anywhere is ridiculously expensive... 800 round trip to NYC...

I might never Ketchup!
I did the deed and bought a Silver Membership for NYMF with two Brain tickets for Sept 30.
Is there some trick to now ordering, for money, tickets for other shows? I tried to get a pair for the afternoon showing of SGF, but couldn't get a link to work. Or must I now wait 'til Sept 1?

After that, I took two big bags of trade material to Amoeba and got a bunch of Bossa Nova CDs, as I’m still on my Bossa Nova kick. The first one I played on the way home was a home run – Marcus Valle, with arrangements by Eumir Deodato. Fantastico. I then came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.
It must be the drugs........ I swear that when I read this, that it read Marcel Marceau. Somehow, the idea of a Marcel Marceau bossa nova album struck me almost as funny as MARCEL MARCEAU SINGS DISCO.

Marvelous Matt is here, fixing the plumbing. But you could guess that, right? It's been one of those weekends when things keep breaking, despite our diligent efforts to keep fixing.
Does JRAND have anything to say about the planetary influence on repairs and breakage?

Thank you Amy for your comments regarding the editing process. It was so strange to see that SOUND OF MUSIC clip the morning after I dreamed about the re-edited TV-movie. It would be an interesting concept to pursue something along the lines of the French film you mentioned. I wonder if I could get a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)?

Hi Dakota, he is still asymptomatic :D
The silly goofus rolled over last night, right over my legs and off the bed. I got up to make sure he was ok, we always worry about his elbows. He seemed find but a wee bit upset & went over to Keith's side of the bed & curled up on the floor.
I went back to sleep only to be woken awhile latter by whimpering. By the second whimper I knew what was happening but poor Keith was very confused, wondering how Sherlock had gotten into this position. Goofus had the top half of his body across the bed at Keith's feet & the bottom half securely positioned on the floor, waiting for Keith to lift him onto the bed. We are talking about dead weight, he doesn't help at all. It's all those times he wasn't permitted to jump on the bed, or into Keith's car.
We got a new car which is lower to the ground so Keith won't have to keep lifting Sherlock up into a high SUV. That was the plan anyway, half the time Goofus still does the half in, half on the floor routine. What a dog! ;D At least Keith doesn't have to lift him very far.

And many of the communities live in relative peace. The article I read remarked on that. You are lucky since you can experience different cultures, foods and folkways.
Well, occasionally an aboriginal group from Chelsea will try to abduct women from the Upper West Side to continue the breed or start a war with Harlem.

My FACT IS STRANGER THAN FICTION tale of NYC.
I was hurring through Grand Central Station when I heard a loud voice ugently calling "SIR!". I turned around and there was a young black man rushing toward me. It seems some bills (the money kind) had fallen from my pants pockets and the man had gathered them up and was trying to return them!

That's the other thing about moving---we live in a very racially mixed neighborhood, mostly hispanic and black, and are in the minority. The neighborhood we're moving to is urban but mostly white yuppies. So far we haven't felt really at home yet but maybe it takes being there. I will miss my Bambi men and my enchilada truck!

DR Edi, perhaps it will now become someone else's "starter house" and will be filled with such warmth and good vibes, that the new owner will be as much in love with it as you are and will take good care of it!
Thanks, Joy!
Unfortunately, that will not be the case, I don't think. My whole neighborhood is being torn down (the city's version of "ethnic cleansing"). When I sell my house, since it's on s half acre downtown at the very corner of this new development, I'm sure it will be town down. It's a tiny house, no A/C, built in '23 by the owners (I am the 2nd owner). It was one of the first houses on South Avenue.
The woman who is moving in discovered her apartment was full of black mold and got very ill and called us, begging us to speed up our move so she could rent our house. She'll pay $500/mo even though I know I could get more, because I know she will take care of it and she understands that whenever we do sell it, she will have 60 days rent free to find another place. So she doesn't have to take perfect care of it as she will probably be the last person to live there, and that's kind of a relief for us not to have to worry about it.
Thanks for all the supportive vibes. I don't know why I feel like such a baby about this! I hate change as much as the cats, i guess!

derB's theatre going plans are greatly conditioned by the lack of the $200 or so to get special shots so the dogs can be kenneled, plus the $100+ per day kenneling fees -IF you can find space, which is rare in the summer.

Netflix Customer Service Drops E-Mail In Favor of Real People
...it's doing something completely unlike nearly any other company today: Getting rid of its unresponsive e-mail-based customer service department and replacing it with actual people And, those people actually live in the U.S., rather than another country on the other side of the globe.
The company has opened an office in Portland staffed 24 hours a day by 200 call center employees who handle all customer issues and complaints. Why Oregon? Because apparently that state has the friendliest-sounding voices in the US, according to Netflix. This is quite a change in tactics from the modern trend of large corporations sending their call centers overseas, a process that has raised the ire of many who have trouble understanding anything but newscaster English.

J.K. Rowling at Work on Crime Novel

LONDON (Aug. 18) - J.K. Rowling has been spotted at cafes in Scotland working on a detective novel, a British newspaper reported Saturday.
The Sunday Times newspaper quoted Ian Rankin, a fellow author and neighbor of Rowling's, as saying the creator of the "Harry Potter" books is turning to crime fiction.

Poor Amy, not getting to see Bill Irwin!
Is this something having to do with a production taking place while we're in NY? I mean, we take special trips to NY just to see Bill's shows!
It's a private workshop to see if Roundabout and its mighty crew can "fix" BYE BYE BIRDIE to make it work in one of their dreadful productions. Much as I love Bill, he's as right for the role as I am to play Chita Rivera's role: he moves so well, he's very funny, he's charming, but he has a problem with singing in tempo.
After seeing Walter Bobbie do the role so well for the Encores! production, it makes you wonder who's behind Roundabout starfuc I mean casting.

The most recent commentary was with Michael Urie (Marc) and Becki Newton (Amanda) who narrated the episode where Marc, Betty, and Amanda go to a party and spill the beans on their CHristmas layout. You can tell the two actors are having the time of their lives doing this series. Very entertaining listening to them dish (all nice stuff, of course).

I got through the Halloween and Thanksgiving episodes, and the Christmas tree is up in the most recent episodes I've been watching though the actual Christmas episode hasn't quite happened yet.
I have to say again that Christopher Gorham was an inspired idea for a boy friend for Betty. I'm not sure I liked all the obstacles that were thrown into the stories to keep them apart, and didn't I read that there will be a new love interest for Betty this season?

I had planned to watch something else during some part of the afternoon just to minimize the risk of growing tired of watching so many episodes back-to-back, but three phoen calls during the afternoon did a nice job breaking up watching the episodes.

How wonderful to get to the PC this morning and see that I have "National Geographic" on line as a free offer. I wonder if they will return to the "Red Shirt" focus in the photographs of both scenery and craftmaking locals, as they did in the sixties.
Already I've received mail about the free subscription from other lucky recipients. I look forward to seeing the "usual" close up photographs of the half-naked primitives as they go about their hunting and gathering.
I've never been to Coney Island (but then I've never been to me).
Tom does not rewrite every line.
-
Those are lovely pictures, Cilla!
-
Well I do hope someone with Dan's phone number is able to contact him.
I have his home and work addresses but mail is a touch slow to get through from here.
-
Did anyone mention the naked glacier protest in Switzerland? It appears that by 2080 if the global warming continues, the glaciers will be gone.
Man, what I wouldn't give to be a chunk of ice.

I've been signed in here, surfing the 'Net and listening to the show tunes digital music channel. But all good things must end. ;)
My sister called and asked if I would come over and (finally) move the light fixture from her former dining room area to her new dining room area. I said that I would and, as much as I'd like not to, ::) several days ago I said that I would...and I even suggested today as the day to do it, since I have nothing to do, except surf the 'Net and also listen to the show tunes digital music channel. So, off I go.
Until later. Have a good day, all! ;D

I'm on hold with AppleCare. The reason for this is because Time Warner cable went out for two hours, so I went to my local free wireless cafe, where I've been many, many times, and no network showed up in the airport icon - zip. The same thing happened at Continental in Newark so something got screwed up on my computer. It works fine at home here, but I need it to also work on the road. I was on hold for eight minutes and got someone, but they said they had to switch me to someone who deals with wireless specifically.
In any cast two-and-a-half hours later, Time Warner is working again.
-
Cilla, the pictures are adorable!
-
I am STILL on hold with AppleCare - my displeasure grows with every passing second. I have now been on the phone for over thirty minutes and all but two of those minutes have been spent on hold.
-
My mother's dog also whines to be lifted onto the bed.. .
Glad to hear that he is holding his on other wise and Keith's back is better. I have had you in my thoughts.
LOL-I'm afraid to ask how big your mother's dog is.
Thanks, I'm thinking of you & your father.

Do I dectect DR Jane's hand in this:?

NICE!!! :D ;D

Cilla-OH SO CUTE! I want to hold him.

A bit blurry, JMK,, Betsy. Keith & me.

Finally hung up, called back, and got someone on the phone three minutes later - this guy knew what he was doing. I was right - when I had to use dial-up in NY it messed with the Airport system, so he basically had me reset the wireless card in the computer, which just was typing in about three little things, and all should be well now. And I'm NOT using dial-up ever again. Thankfully, the two places I'm staying in, while not having wireless, are both cable modem (Time Warner, like mine) so all should be well. I might even be able to glom onto someone else's wireless, too.
-
Good Evening!
Back from my matinee of ACL. All went well today. On my end at least! -I even finally counted the right number of measures rest in the first "One" sequence. HOO and RAY! ;) -Alas, one of the other keyboards was having technical/mechanical/computer brain issues, so... Thankfully, we were all able to go into "stand-by" mode if needed. And we weren't needed. Whew! But I suspect another keyboard swap-out will be taking place Tuesday.
-
Thanks for the pic Jane. Was the photograph taken by Sherlock or one of the Kauffman boys.
-
Keith & me.
I hope you meant "me & Keith." ;)
Thanks to you, and DR Cillaliz, and DR JoseSPiano, for all the great photos!
-
Hmm.... Chinese take-out or delivery sounds good too. Although, after reading some more of the articles in the new issue of "Gourmet", I'm soooo tempted to head up the street to check out either the taco trucks and/or one of the Dominican restaurants featured in the article. Decisions, decisions.
-
suspect another keyboard swap-out will be taking place
Another euphemism? ;)
Technology. Gotta love it.

mmm why does that sound unseemly?

DR singdaw - I've given Nathan Gunn's new CD a few listens, and, well... It's all a little too, well... Bland for my tastes. It's sort of like an "Adult Contemporary" album sung by a classical singer. Nothing sits too high or too long in his voice, and some of the arrangements are downright puzzling - especially the Haydn-esque(?) string arrangement of John Bucchino's "Feels Like Home" with Kristin Chenoweth which has the melody being sung over a pizzicato accompaniment. I'll probably file it with my David Daniels crossover CD and take it out a few months - or years - down the line to see if my first impressions are still lasting ones.
As for seeing him on stage... Yes. I haven't seen him in opera - and, therefore, without his shirt on - but I have seen him in recital. His wife is his accompanist. And, frankly, her playing is fine, but I prefer a bit more collaboration and even a touch of "challenge" from my accompanists. *She's also credited as the arranger and musical director for the new CD, so that may have something to do with the soundscape of the project.
-
And I guess I should add that my favorite crossover-classical album is still Kathleen Battle's "So Many Stars". She's accompanied by a line-up of jazz all-stars, and the marriage of singer, material and arrangements totally works for me.
-
Gabe Winking
Awwwwwww. :)

Loveley picture Jane!

So...
There was one baking sheet that the roomie used last week, a week ago today, in fact, as she was cooking her dinner for her and her boyfriend/lover/???. He washed it after dinner - and didn't really do a good job of doing so - it's still slicked in olive oil. We've all just left it on the drainboard by the sink the past week just waiting to see when she will put it away - or at least attempt to put it away. Well... It's still there - along with the pot lids too. And, of course, the Fresh Direct boxes which should have been put in the recycling pile three weeks ago are still here too.
The "funny" thing is, is that the rest of us do want to ask her to put her dishes away, however, we're all at the point where if we do ask her, there will undoubtedly be a bit of "tone" in that request. So... We all just decided to play the waiting game. I suspect she'll be preparing dinner in a little bit, so... We'll see what happens. If anything.
-
As for the NYMF ticket issues, just give a call to their ticket/box office services, that should do the trick.
-
DR Jose, didn't we eat at El Centro last February?
Si, Señorita.
-
DER Jose-FANTASTIC photos!
You're welcome, DR Jane. I'm just glad the cars obeyed the traffic signals. ;)
-
And Jose -- thank you for the lovely photos of your niece. I saw your post early this morning, and I went back to sleep before I posted about them.
You're Welcome, and No Worries. Sleep is good. -And something I did not get enough of last night.
-
Finally hung up, called back, and got someone on the phone three minutes later - this guy knew what he was doing. I might even be able to glom onto someone else's wireless, too.
*I've found that if I have what I'm sure if a small technical issue, I just give my local Apple Store a call, and, after pushing all the various prompts to reach a live person, said person has usually been able to my question.
**And if you ever do have to use dial-up again, just remember that the modem is already set-up in your computer. All you would have to do is set-up the proper access phone numbers in AOL, and set AOL to use dial-up, not the computer. Otherwise, you could end up changing your internet access properties for your whole computer - which is what sounds like what happened.
-
Hmm... Still thinking about what to have for dinner... Hmm...
-
And I guess I should add that my favorite crossover-classical album is still Kathleen Battle's "So Many Stars". She's accompanied by a line-up of jazz all-stars, and the marriage of singer, material and arrangements totally works for me.

And during today's matinee, I was also able to read a couple of articles in today's New York Times about Walking in the The City. Fun reads. The closing paragraph of the second article more or less sums up my love of the city.
Mr. Lopate once described a “rhythm of walking and thinking”: “The legs get the mind going at a certain pace. There is a continued alternation between outside stimulation and the interior monologue that’s going on in your head. There is the whole Eros of walking. You pass something that you fall in love with and which you’ll never see again.”

Throw the bitch out on her ass!
Besides, DR Cason may need a place to stay if he doesn't go back to LA.
-
And I think I shall head out for another little walk myself to forage for some dinner. Right now, I'm thinking "Tacos Express" - it's Sunday, so they have pozole and chicken tinga. However, even Golden Dragon Chinese Take Out still has it's appeal. As do the abuelas selling their Mexican tamales. We shall see.
Laters...

I hope you meant "me & Keith." ;)
Thanks to you, and DR Cillaliz, and DR JoseSPiano, for all the great photos!
LOL-I didn't know the placement order, hadn't even seen the photo, when I posted.

Thanks for the pic Jane. Was the photograph taken by Sherlock or one of the Kauffman boys.
Sherlock of course, the boy can do anything. At the moment he is even helping me type.
-
Are we STILL on page nine? I'm watching a movie I TIVOd about two years ago. Quite a good film.
-
Thanks Dakota. I would have mentioned it sooner but decided to wait until I didn't have Sherlock's assistance while typing. ;D

Hello, DR MusicGuy. I've been waiting to catch you "live" online since you moved.
THANK YOU ever so much for the wonderful mail delivery, which I have been really enjoying. Hope you got something back in the mail from me - I know you've been away.
-
A bit blurry, JMK,, Betsy. Keith & me.
Jane, you get prettier every time I see you!
-
TCB you made my day. :D Not wonder I didn't mind the blurry photos. ;D

I emailed Dan, so far the mail hasn't been returned.

Hello dear SlingBling.....It's good to see your smiling punim here also!! I'm amazed that the "errant package" finally showed up at your place. I can't even guess how long it took to go from Phoenix to NY.
And yes, your very thoughtful note and gift arrived, and were sent off to the Hopeful Heart office about a week ago. I really thank you for your kindness. Our dear DR Edi was also very kind to H.H., and it too was very appreciated.

Will we never get to page ten?

What is Fresh Direct?
-
I'm completely shifted out of our old house now, and everything that I kept is with me at my new place. But I know that I will be unpacking boxes and trying to organize stuff for several weeks yet.
At the moment, I'm trying to figure out exactly which box might contain the remote for my second DVD/VHS player. Is, a puzzlement !! >:(
-
I have unplugged Ye Olde TIVO unit because ever since the dish was moved it has not been acquiring the program guide. As it turns out the Direct TV guy I spoke to on the phone said it was most likely a power surge problem (even though I have a surge protector), so this was his fix and I'm trying it.
-
Company will be arriving any minute. They will be here the next three nights so I can't promise to post. I will, of course, be checking email.
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page ten.
-
What is Fresh Direct?
DR TCB, here's a link. My friends Cathie and Alice swear by them.
http://www.freshdirect.com/index.jsp
-
And I must now get ready to have a quick bite with a friend of mine this evening.
Take care lovelies and studlies..... Lovely night to you dear BK.....

If Fresh Direct won't accept your zipcode, use mine: 10024.

Very cool. You don't even need to cook to live in NY.

If Fresh Direct won't accept your zipcode, use mine: 10024.
LOL. It wouldn't take mine, and yours was the first one I thought of, so I used it.
-
If Fresh Direct won't accept your zipcode, use mine: 10024.
I just had a memory flashback. When I was younger, and all the game shows and talk shows used to be filmed in NY, wasn't 10019 that was the zip code you always used to request tickets? Is that Rockefeller Plaza's zip code, or a clearing house address?
-
Ah...
One sopes topped with carnitas, and a healthy portion of pozole. Muy delicioso!
The pozole was interesting, in a good way. It was a chicken and pork one in a clear, chicken broth - along with the requisite giant kernels of hominy, the posole, which gives the stew it's name. I'm normally used to seeing a red broth - red from chiles and tomatos - but this was good too. I even thought I detected a bit of ginger in the broth - which is sort of unusual in Mexican cooking.
However, packed along in the bag was a small container of chopped white onion, a couple of lime wedges and some red pepper (ground chiles) so that I could customize the pozole to my liking.
All in all, a perfect meal for an unseasonably cool and drizzly summer evening.

10019 is the midtown area up to 57th Street; the other midtown zip is 10036.

And, there was always the zip code for WGBH in Boston...

*Can anyone not sing that one out loud? ;)

I'm thrilled to see you weren't raped and plundered by the marauding Chelseas! Or are they still busy trying to conquer Harlem?
-
The only warring community around here at the moment is the homeless: this morning one of them on the steps of Holy Trinity kept screaming about leg pains. I was ready to walk over with a meat cleaver when he shut up. Perhaps he was carted off?
-
I'm thrilled to see you weren't raped and plundered by the marauding Chelseas! Or are they still busy trying to conquer Harlem?
Well, I did happen to notice a few pockets of those pesky Upper East Siders as well as some the Bridge and Tunnel Brigade while walking around. I think they were starting to organize their forces. Or they could have just been lost.

Did Brad mention his package? That's not a euphemism!

Well, the real battle with East Siders if over the "good schools".
As for Brad and your/his package... I didn't see him yesterday, and I believe he was heading out to Fire Island today. But I'll see him on Tuesday and/or Wednesday.

Zooma zooma zooma, zoom?

It was just about sunrise, so I don't think the church was beginning services yet; they have to sweep all the homeless sleeping on broken down carton on the steps. It looks like a scene from THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.
If anyone cares, the 9 pm broadcast of COLD CASE is the repeat episode of the gay cops.
-
I just picked up the mail and what to my wandering eye should appear but our SACCO AND VANZETTI DVD's so dear! 3 of them, sent by my partner Peter before he left for Norway. (I'm so jealous!)
They look beautiful! We have been working on the cover art over the internet, and while it looked good, there's nothing like seeing it in person for the first time!

As I was clearing out a million audio cassettes, I stumbled upon a recording of the Luray Cavern pipe organ, and thought of Music Guy and wondered if he has ever heard it/played it and how it stacks up to above-the-ground pipe organs!

True.

Why didn't you tell us you wanted to represent the USA in this year's Miss Edvard Grieg pageant?

Nope, probably just waiting for the public library to open.
-
Why didn't you tell us you wanted to represent the USA in this year's Miss Edvard Grieg contest?
I thought she was going to Oslo for the Peace Prize.
I wanted to win that until I found out how they spelled it.
-
Isn't there a National Geographic special edition on the Fire Island rituals.
(Sacrifice of,or maybe hunt the, virgins). It's a while since I read that.
-
Nope, probably just waiting for the public library to open.
Usually, the police come and cart them off since the NYPLs don't open till noon. At least the crazy one who went ballistic whenever he went off his meds hasn't been around for several years. He was scary.
-
Wasn't Grieg accused of concerting with A Miner.
-
Why didn't you tell us you wanted to represent the USA in this year's Miss Edvard Grieg pageant?
Hah! I was just now writing an email to Peter and telling him about SONG OF NORWAY. I've wanted to go to Norway ever since I saw that film. Even with the cheesy 70's cinematography, the scenery is still breathtaking! And Grieg is one of my favorite composers, too.

When/ Where will the dvd be available for purchase Amy?
-
Congratulations!
Thanks, Adriana! I guess this is the closest I ever get to birthin' something, so it's very exciting after that 4 year gestation period!
But still nothing like the adorableness of Cillaliz's Sophie and Gabe. So cute!!!!

When/ Where will the dvd be available for purchase Amy?
Tuesday!
$18.26 on Deep Discount DVD
$26.99 on Amazon (don't buy it there but you should read Vixmom's wonderful review!)
I'm not sure how much it is on our distributor's website:
http://firstrunfeatures.com/saccovanzettidvd.html
Of course, you have already "paid your dues" and it was great having you at our LA premiere!
And of course, feel free to write a quickie review if you feel so inclined!
;)

Seriously, if any of you have not heard MusicGuy (Lyn) play the organ, you are missing a treat. I have no idea how many different CDs he has recorded, but I have STAIRWAY TO PARADISE and it is wonderful.

Sherlock and Dixie Bell would get along just fine. Dixie ALWAYS is present with me at the computer, she, too, is helping me type right now.

After leaving work on Saturday I had a productive rest of the weekend. I watched the final episode of The Sopranos so that is finally off the to do list. I then made tuna cassarole for dinner while listening to Beverley Humphreys Showtime on Radio Wales. We had a nice meal and then watched the 1938 film version of Pygmalion with Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller. Quite wonderful. We slep very late (for us) on Sunday morning. We didn't get up until after 10am. We then had scrambled eggs, toasted mini-bagels with cherry preserves and coffee and tea while listening to Broadway Musicals of 1939. Then we went to a local street fair (on 6th Avenue between 14th and 23rd) where I bought a new key case. We came home and I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! So I am caught up in those areas. I then made turkey meatloaf with butter herb mashed potatoes and fresh green beans for dinner and we listened to the rest of Broadway Musicals of 1939. I then rode the exercise bike for 90 minutes while Ant worked on a project on the computer. He is now watching Miss Marple on Mystery (on PBS) and I'm relaxing before I begin to read Maurice (E.M. Forster). I've never read it, I only saw the film. I'm looking forward to it.
And that, dear friends, sums up our weekend.
Later!
P.S. Ditto what TCB said about Lyn's musical abilities. They are wonderful!

Uh, the ladies with fried eggs on their foreheads generally don't come out until September. . .or. . .October. . . .
But it's been so hot and humid lately...I thought...perhaps...
-
Uh, the ladies with fried eggs on their foreheads generally don't come out until September. . .or. . .October. . . .
I thought BK hired them for the chorus of THE BRAIN.
-
Hey, Larry! Are the women with fried eggs on their heads out on the streets yet?
I think they've moved to Tacoma. Or 42nd Street.
-
Had an excellent meal at Chevy's, then got caught up here. News at 11.
-
I'ts been a beautiful day here in Oakland CA.
-
I watched "The Wind and the Lion" in the early afternoon.
-
And I am only partially recovered from the emotional ordeal of watching "The Way We Were" for the first time in years.
Oh, man....what a movie!
-
I've never seen COLD CASE before. It's like FOLLIES with a murder mystery. Excellent cast, and good writing.
-
I'm either going to watch "What's Up, Doc" or "Barefoot in the Park" next.
I need some laughter.
-
I think they've moved to Tacoma. Or 42nd Street.
Is there a difference?
-
Will we never get to page 18?
-
There is a fascinating feature on the DVD of "The Way We Were" of "the making of..."
For the first time, I saw scenes that were excised from the film (looking in great shape, too)...scenes I'd heard about for years...scenes that clarified many things, including why Hubbell and Katie divorced.
Great stuff.
And for me, there's never been as poignant an ending to a love story as in this film.
-
Re TWWW....I've had this "Special Edition" DVD since it was released YEARS ago, but today is the first time I actually put in the player and watched.
It's a great anamorphic transfer.
-
Nothing like a mini-frenzy.
-
A mini-frenzy AMONG many frenzies, that is.
-
Heave DOODY!
-
And I am only partially recovered from the emotional ordeal of watching "The Way We Were" for the first time in years.
Oh, man....what a movie!
The BEST!
-
And speaking of "Heavy DOODY", the revival of Grease opens tonight. ;)
-
Is there a difference?
Yes! The still have hookers in Tacoma!
-
I realize that I live on the West Coast, and that it isn't quite 7:00 p.m.; but I am going to take my mass doses (a Catholic reference) of medications and go to bed - because I can!
Good night.
-
Goodnight DR TCB. I hope you have a peaceful sleep.
-
DR's Jose and Jason - got your tickets for Bukowsical! tomorrow at 2!
-
And, there was always the zip code for WGBH in Boston...
02134
*Can anyone not sing that one out loud? ;)
Send it to ZOOM!!
;D
-
Do I dectect DR Jane's hand in this:?
AOL NEWS (http://www.switched.com/2007/08/17/netflix-customer-service-drops-e-mail-in-favor-of-real-people/)der Brucer
Interesting. I wasn't aware Netflix had any customer service whatsoever. All I've experienced are very limited options. But I heartily welcome this change. REAL customer service! Will wonders never cease?
-
MattH, have you ever read any of Margery Allingham's novels?
I have. I've read many of them. But I'm not MATTH. :)
-
DR's Jose and Jason - got your tickets for Bukowsical! tomorrow at 2!
You're swell, DR Cason!
DR Jose: When/where shall we meet? I'm sure I'll need to eat before 2:00...and probably after the show, as well. ;)
-
And now I must do my week-ending paperwork for AVENUE Q. I'll return upon its completion....
-
But first, a sampling of what Variety has to say about the revival of Grease!, which opened on the Broad Way this very eve...
"It's hardly a minority opinion to say one of the lessons learned from the rocky Bush administration is that America doesn't always make the most farsighted choices. That forlorn conclusion is amplified loud and clear in the dispiritingly bland Broadway revival of "Grease." While the results of misguided casting decisions can't be compared to the impact of longterm political appointments, letting the people choose their own Danny and Sandy in this case does little to validate the democratic election process."
-
I've never seen THE WAY WE WERE. I know, I know...
-
I just took an unexpected snooze for about an hour. Who knew?
-
And now, back to Berry-Berry - anyone know what I'm watching?
-
Grease is THE word!
Is outre the opposite of innre?
-
ALL FALL DOWN!!!
-
I think I have TWO of my three scenes learned. I am concentrating on the one we are doing tomorrow night....and then on my day OFF from rehearsal on Tuesday, will work on my last scene....really my shortest one.....
-
Tomorrow is my audition for STUFF HAPPENS and our first day OFF BOOK for THE SUNSHINE BOYS....I will be glad when it is Tuesday.
-
Eleven o'clock....film at eleven.
Baby pictures....nieces and nephews galore!!!
-
Just been reading the Grease reviews. No surprises there. :-\
-
The show will most likely run through Christmas, but unless they overhaul the show and/or do some sort of major publicity campaign, I don't think it would survive the traditional theatrical doldrums of the NYC winter.
-
Will we never get to page ten?
There and beyond.
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page ten.
Amazing.
-
I've never seen COLD CASE before. It's like FOLLIES with a murder mystery. Excellent cast, and good writing.
It's one of the best of all the CBS procedural dramas. And because many of the behind the scenes folks are gay, there have been quite a few memorable gay stories over the course of its three seasons.
-
And now, back to Berry-Berry - anyone know what I'm watching?
ALL FALL DOWN, of course.
-
I just watched ALL FALL DOWN myself about two weeks ago. COntinues to have fascinating performances, and Warren Beatty and Brandon De Wilde have to be two of the best looking actors ever to play brothers.
-

According to one of the ushers at my theatre, a friend of theirs, who is an usher at the Brooks Atkinson, tried to reserve some tickets for some family and the box office told them that there are no seats available until January. God knows if they'll sell any tickets past then, but still...they have over a $14 Million advance, from what I hear...
-
I spent the evening with more UGLY BETTY. During the course of the evening several memorable episodes from the first season came into play. One memorable one was the wonderful Justin performing "Good Morning Baltimore" on the subway. That little boy (who is really little in the pilot and who grows about a foot by the end of the season) steals every scene he's in.
-
And all of my paperwork balanced out perfectly this week. Not even one little tweak to make it work out. AMAZING! And, though our houses felt significantly smaller this week, my sales only dropped by $600 for the week. Not too bad...could be worse!
-
Also rewatched the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" episode that featured Patti Lupone as Marc's bigoted mother. This episode was just on last Thursday night on the network, but knowing I was going to be watching this set, I didn't watch it then as much as I wanted to see it again.
-

...And I tried to get some house seats through the casting director's office (since I had played a bunch of auditions), and they told me the same sing.
-
On that episode, Vanessa Williams and Michael Urie provide a commentary, so I had to listen to it. It wasn't as much fun as the Urie/Becki Newton commentary (the best in the set so far), but it was OK.
-
I still have 4 episodes to go and then the featurettes and outtakes.
-
Greast - just more of the amateurization of the performing arts - and while the reviews should matter, they won't - for awhile. Advances, like hot air, go away just as quickly as they came.
-
I'm heading down now to go to bed.
Good night!
-
I am caught up for today and now must go to sleep. I hope my new power cord for the laptop arrives tomorrow.
Night
-
Tomorrow is my audition for STUFF HAPPENS and our first day OFF BOOK for THE SUNSHINE BOYS....I will be glad when it is Tuesday.
JRand, you are a whirlwind of drama! (and comedy!)
-
I started a Charlie Chan movie but I'm too restless so I'm listening to a Bossa Nova compilation that's putting me in a fine mood.
-
It's one of the best of all the CBS procedural dramas. And because many of the behind the scenes folks are gay, there have been quite a few memorable gay stories over the course of its three seasons.
I love COLD CASE. It's the only other recent series I'm familiar with, because TNT airs it in syndication and I've had to clip out quite a few episodes.
One gay story I thought was very well done was the one with the baseball player that was a very cold case from the 60's. The writing is so good, and there is such an emotional wallop as the crimes get solved and the families finally get some closure, one way or another.
-
I adore THE WAY WE WERE, always have, always will.
Watch it DR edisaurus!
I have never seen COLD CASE.
I watch a lot of UGLY BETTY; but not the dvd set yet. . .
I just watched THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY and found it as charming as ever, and such a beautiful transfer to dvd!
Earlier, I slept for forty-five minutes. 8)
Today, at work, I was the bartender, the server and the manager on duty. :o
-
OK... Me sooo sleepy.
Goodnight.
-
I'm doing a load of laundry, whilst listening to Gal Costa sing Jobim, a live album with full orchestra. Yummy.
-
We'll always have Paris.
-
I am drinking the last of the Diet Cokes - must buy some more tomorrow, but have two half-litre bottles to tide me over.
-
Will we never get to page fifteen?
-
I didn't REALLY need to eat that cucumber roll, but I'd only had two sandwiches and a little potato salad earlier today. And I jogged, baby, I jogged.
-
I think I'll open Ye Olde iTunes tomorrow and import about ten Bossa Nova CDs so I can have a little fix should I need it whist in NY. Certainly, the key Jobim albums, a couple compilations, Joao Gilberto with Ogerman and Mandel, and like that - in fact, I may just start doing that right this minute.
-
I ate a ground beef quesadilla from work while watching Harry's trouble.
-
Speaking of ITunes, my player has over fifty full Elvis Presley cds on it. . . :o
-
I'm pushing for Page Fifteen. . .sooner rather than later. :)
-
. . .and one for vanity's sake. 8)
-
And all of my paperwork balanced out perfectly this week. Not even one little tweak to make it work out. AMAZING! And, though our houses felt significantly smaller this week, my sales only dropped by $600 for the week. Not too bad...could be worse!
How did you write off your "TAKE THIS, BITCH, AND GO!" T-shirt?

I could "argue" that the "people" did NOT choose this Danny and Sandy....a bunch of tweens text-messaged hundreds of votes each for their precious Slacker Danny and his equally lame Laura. The judges helped, too. And the judges were the creative talent "behind" the revival...and they got EXACTLY what they deserved.
That said, it will probably be an enormous hit.
-
And now, back to Berry-Berry - anyone know what I'm watching?
"All Fall Down", of course!
Wonderful movie.
-
I've never seen THE WAY WE WERE. I know, I know...
What? What do we know...that you're related to MBarnum?
;D
-
My evening's movie was "Barefoot in the Park", wonderful Gene Saks-directed adaptation of Neil Simon's Broadway play.
Fonda is great, but Cory Bratter is a bit "much" in this day and age. She was quirky way back when, but ya just wanna slap her now.
Redford was extremely winning in recreating his stage role as Paul Bratter.
Mildred Natwick was a total HOOT!
And what a pleasure to see Mabel Albertson as Aunt Harriet...a very small cameo, actually, but Albertson always puts a smile on my face.
And Charles Boyer was the anti-Chevalier -- the suave Frenchman whom you knew was NOT in lifelong servitude to his mother.
Great Neal Hefti score. And great New York photography.
-
Golly! I seem to be here by myself.
When did 10:37 p.m. on a Sunday night become the witching hour at HainesHisWay.com?
-
I spy an Aussie.
Hey, Tom!
-
I'm just frenzying away.
It has been a long spell since I had a day of frenzy.
-
Several folks at work will be back off vacation tomorrow. The day should be noisier, if not busier. We're in the August doldrums.
Busy work, but few crises (knock on wood).
-
I guess Tommy is trying to catch up. Lord knows where he had to start.
-
Hello DR RLP.
Ok - I can cope with "The Way We Were"!
(Well it one hell of a lot better than "Prince Of Tides"
-
By the way, Tommy: When you get to my comment about spending my afternoon watching "The Way We Were", and you decide to post that this is YET ANOTHER film you despise, I'm going to be severely disappointed.
-
AUGHGHGHGHGH!
Cope? Cope?
Sigh.
Okay.
-
I just ordered "Prince of Tides" this afternoon. I hope to be watching it next weekend....and luxuriating in that photography on my plasma HDTV!
;D
-
LOL Ron.
Colin loves the film. I enjoyed it but have no desire to watch it again.
-
The book was wonderful! The film is so NOT.
-
LOL Ron.
Colin loves the film. I enjoyed it but have no desire to watch it again.
I trust you mean "The Way We Were"...and I could watch it any time. It's set in the right time period, has great music and photography, and best of all, it has two beautiful actors giving the performances of their lives.
WONderful film!
:)
-
The book was wonderful! The film is so NOT.
Oh! You were still talking about "The Prince of Tides"
But Nolte is superb.
-
And that's no mean feat for Nolte.
-
Oh that Babs would turn to BK for the production of an album.
-
Hello?
-
Will we never get to page 16?
-
Do you realize it has been 11 years since Babs was in a movie?
-
Colin and I both loathed the film of Prince of Tides. It was the screenplay that was the problem.
-
Meet the F...s?
-
I was struck by such a sense of nostalgic yearning while watching "TWWW" today.
I remember the first time I heard the song, listened to the soundtrack album and saw the movie.
I was in Vicenza Italy. I have such incredible sense memories of how the music made me feel and how I related it to the time and place I was in.
Truly plucked some chords, it did.
-
Meet the F...s?
That's right....I should say "directed a film".
-
No that I bothered with it. I thought the prequel was so very unfunny!
-
Tom: Have you ever seen "Meet Joe Black"?
-
No that I bothered with it. I thought the prequel was so very unfunny!
In every way, including DeNiro.
-
No. But then I don't care for peanut butter.
-
BTW Ron - I loved "La Vie En Rose".
-
and "Pan's Labyrinth".
-
No. But then I don't care for peanut butter.
If you haven't seen it, how do you know about the peanut butter?
-
and "Pan's Labyrinth".
I admired it, but doubt I'll ever watch it again.
-
Just checked Leonard Maltin!
-
At any rate, I love "Meet Joe Black" for many reasons, including the fantastic production design, exquisite photography, singularly domineering performance of Anthony Hopkins and the exquisite and emotionally powerful/draining Thomas Newman score.
-
Just checked Leonard Maltin!
:-\
-
Good night, Tom.
Time to get my bones into bed.
-
I'm trying to think of an American movie I've enjoyed this year.
"Little Miss Sunshine".
-
Goodnight Ron.
(Is that a Harry Potter reference)
-
Hah! I was just now writing an email to Peter and telling him about SONG OF NORWAY. I've wanted to go to Norway ever since I saw that film. Even with the cheesy 70's cinematography, the scenery is still breathtaking! And Grieg is one of my favorite composers, too.
I also like Greig...
BTW, some member of the Norwegian Royal family always pays a visit to North Dakota and Minnesota
-
Look forward to seeing Sacco and Vanzetti, Edi...
Congratulations!
-
Interesting. I wasn't aware Netflix had any customer service whatsoever. All I've experienced are very limited options. But I heartily welcome this change. REAL customer service! Will wonders never cease?
It will be nice to see AMERICAN based customer service than that from overseas
-
My sister called and asked if I would come over and (finally) move the light fixture from her former dining room area to her new dining room area. I said that I would and, as much as I'd like not to, ::) several days ago I said that I would...and I even suggested today as the day to do it, since I have nothing to do, except surf the 'Net and also listen to the show tunes digital music channel. So, off I go.
Until later. Have a good day, all! ;D
I went to my sister's and the light fixture moving wasn't as easy as I'd thought, but it all got done and now my sister's happy...for now. She still needs to get a new light fixture for the former dining room area, which is now what she calls the TV room.
-
After that, I came home and watched (and taped for my friend Margo) "High School Musical 2." It was okay. Probably not something that I would've watched on my own (although, I did choose to watch the first one ::)).
-
After that was over, I just sat in my chair listening to the show tunes digital music channel and I fell asleep! I haven't fallen asleep in front of the TV in quite a while. I guess I needed the 2+ hour nap just before going to sleep. ;)
-
I'm here all by my little ol' lonesome.
-
And since we're so close...
