I do understand and respect that point of view but so many times the applause stops a line or a piece of business that I want to see or hear. It's a puzzlement. It's certainly good to be recognized and appreciated for your work but to me it's more of the theatre in your living room kind of behavior.Just my 2 cents on the subject.
At the final performance of A Light in the Piazza, the entrance applause started for Victoria Clark when she first became visible to the audience and only died down after she had started to sing...which was probably more than a full minute. Granted, special circumstances, with the audience wanting to show their support for her and for the show, but still...
