Well, you've read the notes, the notes were celebratory, and now it is time for you to post until the celebratory cows come home.

Today is probably going to be a long day for me.  I have to work concessions for a local dance studio's recital, but if I get done early enough, I need to take my niece to a Seattle Storm basketball game.  Larry, her mother's boyfriend is supposed to take her, but he has a bad back and really can't drive.  My sister will take her, if I can't.

Sounds like "Edge of Darkness" was another "State of Play," which was a great mini-series and a mumble of a movie despite a great cast.

Good morning, all! Last night I was feeling quite unhealthy, so I decided to sleep in today and drive  away whatever bug was threatening my equilibrium.  All was fine until the dog above me began barking about 8:45 this morning. So, I am up and so much for sleeping late.

I do feel better than yesterday. I'll have some chicken broth for lunch.

I've got Victor Herbert and the Wizard to deal with today, but I am taking it easy and not doing too much.

So, I've been getting little missive e-mails from the makers of The Ghastly Love of Johnny X, this film for which I did a little cameo oh about six years ago.  I figured I was on some ancient list because no one has called me about this movie in two years, I think.  So, this morning I get a call sheet for tomorrow - I'm about to e-mail back to take me off the list when I actually look at the call sheet and see my name!  I guess they thought we were all just going to show up without being called first about availability (I have no idea what the other missives were, since I just assumed they weren't for me because I hadn't heard anything), or just called as a courtesy.  So, I just wrote the AD back and said sorry, not available tomorrow.  And I'm fairly sure that nothing about me today would match what we shot six years ago, when my hair was longer and blonder, and I was probably a little heavier than I am now, or vice versa.

So, here's some good news for LA folks:

Steven Sater's play, New York Animals (Sater is a Tony-winning scribe of musical work), gets its World Premiere at Rogue Machine Theatre - first preview this week. Yes - that's the theatre I work for/at/with. The show stars Caroline Aaron - yes, she of the Woody Allen flicks and multiple Broadway plays (and Love, Loss, and What I Wore) - and my boss, the lovely and talented John Perrin Flynn is directing.

I was meant to fly down to work front-of-house - but expenses of Running Water In The House have depleted my stash of dollars this month...

Still, if some of yiz go see it, lemme know your thoughts -

Yes, that would be reason enough to avoid Mr. Gibson's films.  However, long before he publicly became Mel-the-Jew-hater; he had long been Mel-the-gay-hater.  Back then, I told people I was avoiding his films for that reason, and I was constantly told to lighten-up.

O MEIN PAPA

Papa wie ein Pfeil
Sprang hinauf auf die Seil.
Eh la hopp, eh la hopp, eh la hopp!
Er spreizte die Beine
Ganz breit auseinand',
Sprang hoch in die Luft
Und stand auf der Hand.
Eh la hopp, eh la hopp, eh la hopp!
Lachte: Haha!
Und machte: Haßa
Ganz sachte Haßa
Und rief: Eh la hopp!
Eh la hopp! Eh la hopp!
Er ritt auf die Seil
Ganz hoch in die Luft.
Eh la hopp, eh la hopp, eh la hopp!
Das konnte er machen
Zwölf mal ohne Mih!
Er lachte dazu
Und fürchte sich nie!
Eh la hopp, eh la hopp, eh la hopp!

O mein Papa
War eine wunderbare Clown.
O mein Papa
War eine große Kinstler.
Hoch auf die Seil,
Wie war er herrlich anzuschau´n!
O mein Papa
War eine schöne Mann!

Wie, wie er lacht,
Sein Mund sie sein so breit, so rot
Und seine Aug'
Wie Diamanten strahlen.
O mein Papa
War eine wunderbare Clown.
O mein Papa
War eine große Kinstler!
Hoch auf die Seil,
Wie war er herrlich anzuschau'n!
O mein Papa
War eine schöne Mann!
Ein schöner Mann!

The neighbors are having one of their pool parties.  For the last two days, the girlfriend (I don't think they're married) of the youngster who owns the monstrosity, has been sunbathing topless by the pool.  It hasn't occurred to her that if you're in my house and happen to walk by the bedroom window you can see all of it clearly.

More about last night's glee club concert:  There were 150 men on stage, ranging from 2010 graduates to someone who graduated 50 years ago.  They did all the familiar material under the direction of 3 conductors - the current one and his 2 predecessors.  Ethan Sperry, the current conductor, is leaving to become head of choral programs at Portland State University in Oregon, so I wonder if he and DR JMK will cross paths.

Alumni audiences are much better behaved than the student audiences we've been in for concerts during the school year.

Drux - yeah, ol' Mel-the-Jew-hater... kinda hard to watch him be charming on-screen..

He was so charming people probably didn't believe it.  Since then he has given us sooo many reasons not to like him.

Is anybody going to watch the new shows on ABC tonight? I think they are called SCOUNDRELS and THE GATES.

No.  We watched the pilot for HOT IN CLEVELAND and plan on watching it again.  We didn't expect to find it so funny.  Did anyone watch this?

The neighbors are having one of their pool parties.  For the last two days, the girlfriend (I don't think they're married) of the youngster who owns the monstrosity, has been sunbathing topless by the pool.  It hasn't occurred to her that if you're in my house and happen to walk by the bedroom window you can see all of it clearly.

Umm. Are you complaining?

Actually, DR Jane, I enjoyed the second half of the concert more than the first.  Just before the concert started a party of 5 came in to sit next to us.  It appeared to be a young mom whose husband was in the glee club, their 3 kids, and either father or father-in-law.  I suspect the FiL was also a glee club alum who chose not to participate in the concert.  At least not on stage, but he hummed along during every number in the first half.  At intermission, Rob and I were able to move to seats far enough away that I couldn't hear him and from which we could see Richard better.

DR CP - unfortunately it was a night "off book" they were using their books from start to finish.

The television version I am watching is one with Noel Coward, Claudette Colbert, Lauren Bacall, and Mildred Natwick......some CBS special thing broadcast in color, but the kinescope is in B/W.  Coward cut the play down to two hours including commercials, so I took some of the cuts he made.

Where did you find this?

Oh I have my sources......would you like a copy?

DVD or Video?

B/w  DVD

A couple days ago, Friday maybe?   I've tried pet cleaning products, but it isn't working too well.  It's the new carpet in the basement. Not sure who did it, but there were some cats hanging around outside that room for a few days (it has sliding glass doors) so I'm wondering if it wasn't marking the territory.  Anyway, it stinks.  If all else fails I'll get it professionally cleaned

My favorite cleaner for this is OdoBan: http://www.odoban.com  I used the original concentrate.

You might try a good enzyme cleaner first.  A lot of people like Natures Miracle.  I personally never had success with it, unfortunate I can't remember the name of my favorite enzyme cleaner.

I hope you didn't try vinegar & water.  Soda water, if used immediately, kinds of bubbles it up some.  If you use a professional ask what they use & how they use it.  Don't expect miracles.  Whatever you use you might want to test it in a corner.  If I remember correctly a good enzyme cleaner can be left in to soak up the odors.

If you are not sure where the spot is, you might want to go to your neighborhood pet store and get one of those small black lights.  That is about the only way to tell if you have found it all.

Soft and chewy would ring my bell
One bite, and I shall drool
Aowww, that's a lovely caramel

Some with chocolate
And some just plain
When I'm done
None will quite remain
I'll eat each one myself
Aowww, that's a lovely caramel

Oh, a caramel it's so absobloominlutely yum
I would never go a month, without one inside my tum

Keep your Mars Bars they're such a bore
Keep your gummies and give me more
Of caramels galore
Aowww, that's a lovely caramel
Caramel

Caramel

I just didn't like the show. Rap and shouting. Doesn't anyone sing in musicals any more? Must they all yell?

Saturday the Vixter and I spent the day working on the yard

there was a section that had previously been a vegatablegarden - in the past several years in had been badly neglected - it also had become the dumping ground for an overabundance of clean fill, which ahd been mounded up on a tarp. The entire area was also overtaken by vines

It has taken several weekends of hard work but we finally cleared the entire area and bought and installed sod - it is now a much more pleasant view from the piano picnic table
view  from our patio

So this morning there was a mad bit of vacumming and mopping (I do so love my Shark steam mop!!) before heading out to church

The Vixter's choir performed at the 9 AM service and we are on Altar guild duty this month (setting up and cleaning up for communion)    then we had Sunday School (last day  until September!) and then a mad rush to the supermarket

Ibought the makings for salad, mixed spring greens, fresh mushrooms, dried CRANBERRIES, smoked almonds, and I had left over crumbled bacon bits and crumbled bleu cheese from last week's Skip's egg recipe  - it made a very nice salad especially witha the cranberry viangarette dressing

I also sliced some Vidalia onions and fresh mushrooms and dumped in some sherry and butter and let it simmer slowly for about an hour   (I love that my outdooe grill has a side burner so I can cook this outside where the delicous aroma does not become imbedded in the couch or curtains)

and I bought 7 strip steaks so we would eachhave our own personla steak - I popped them into my tupperware marinating tray  along with some monterey steak season, and half a cup of sherry and some olive oil - it marinated about 3 hours before grilling and the steak was really nice if I do say so myself (which I just did - so there)

For the "sides" I steamed some bay red potatoes and some fresh corn on the cob

dessert was blueberry pie and vanilla ice cream  and angel food cake  with whipped creama and fresh blueberries and sstrawberries

The Vixter &  I uncovered the yard swing and put on the seat cushion and we  set up the  two popup canopies and put out the chairs - filled the cooler with ice and finally our guests arrived  -

of course just as the grill was heating up for teh steaks the thunderstorm  that had been forecast for the past three weeks decided to finally show up

I have to make a blueberry pie every year for a friend for her birthday. What a treat it is for me, too. I love that touch of nutmeg and the acid from the lemon juice mixing in with the berries. The butter richness of the crust. Guess I'm going to have to make one this week.

of the rain came down in huge deluge for about 10 minutes  - and then stopped and the sky cleared up again

fortunately we were still able to eat out on the patio - the tent gazebo kept the picninc table dry at least -but everything was soaked and we couldn't sit out on the lawn anymore

everyone seemed to enjoy their meal - so despite my last minute preparations and the rain  I guess it was a success

Will I be able to stop at the four caramels, or will I scarf down another two or three or four?  Jane told me that she has one customer who orders one pound at a time and eats them all at one sitting - and, he's skinny.

Wow. That was quite a meal to whip up in a hurry, Vixmom.

it was actually pretty simple (whichis best for me - I am no Julia Child) - the steaks were all cut and trimmed so they just went straight from the package into the marinade and from  there to the grill

the potatoes just needed a quick wash - (this particular brand comes prewashed) and baby reds require nopeeling - just pop them on the top of the steamer and there you are

ditto withteh corn - husking takes no time and then just pop 'em in the other steamer

and the salad was just assembly  - I only had to slicing the  the onion and mushrooms took the longest

Just finished watching "Up in the Air." Hard to sit through since I've been through it -- and am still going through it -- but I found it a good film, if a little too Hollywood. Anna Kendrick was great, though. She's a marvel.

I'm tired, goodnight everyone.

Gardening is really hard work,  I had to did out all the grass that grew into the flower beds,  everything grows like crazy in the beach weather.

But I did see butterflies for the first time in my yard this week.  ;D

Next weekend I'll go to Lowes and buy flowers for them.   Hopefully they will stay. :)

Sorry to be such a poop.  Posting wise.  I'm trying to become laid back and calm to fit in with my new lifestyle in the evenings and weekends.   Not sure how calm and laid back I can become.   I am still a city girl and miss a lot of the stuff that happens. ;)

I did take the camera out of the storage box, but it's still just sitting on the table.

Well, today was certainly a day.  It turns out that I didn't have to take my niece to the basketball game (Larry's back was better) but while working concessions (all by my lonesome, I might add) there were some moments.  I was the only concessionaire working today, and it turns out that not only did they not have someone work concessions yesterday, the front-of-house people didn't even know that I was going to be there today!  They were very grateful.  I was able to set up everything without having to rush and and there was no mad rush from the crowds, just a steady stream.  Also, there was no intermission, just sales at pre-show for the two performances.  But, the best part was that I got some tips!  Three bucks!  I've never gotten tips when there wasn't alcohol served, so that was cool. :D

HOWEVER, the big event was that as people were coming down in the elevator after the first performance, it got stuck!! :o Too many people got on at once and it all jammed up.  They had to call the fire department to get them out.  Fortunately, everyone was fine, but the elevator is probably broken.  The house manager said that this happened last year at a performance by the same group...what a coinkydink.  You'd think that their audience would learn. ;)
