Well, you've read the notes, the notes had dinging and ringing, and now it is time for you to post until the dinging and the ringing cows come home.

TOD  Best fried chicken, hands down, was from a little roadside stand along side a highway in Thailand.  Amazing!

Second best was from Pioneer chicken which, sadly, is no more around here.

I made fried chicken once after reading about it in The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love. It was a lot of work and was worth it, but I never did it again.

Without a doubt the best fried chicken I have ever eaten was made by Skip Kennon.

In fact the Vixter stopped eating my fried chicken after tasting Skip's, and I didn't blame her a bit.

TOD

I think I can truthfully say I haven't had real homemade fried chicken since I lived at home. For my grandmother (dad's mother), it was a Sunday dinner ritual and we probably ate her fried chicken at her place on Sunday more times than at any other place, though my mom and everyone else made it as well, so who knows. I have memories of it sizzling in the pan, and at home I'm pretty sure we had an electric skillet for it. Our entire family then, on both my mom's and dad's sides, were the classic chicken-on-Sunday Midwesterners.

Memorable fried chicken moments elsewhere:  1. It later became a more common thing to go out for Sunday dinner at this nice family style restaurant in Bexley (Ohio) called Willard's, and I'm pretty certain that having the chicken was de rigueur. (Oddly, I became enamored of their Chicken Gizzards and Hearts dinner, something I haven't ventured near at any time thereafter.)  2. On a family road trip around 1960 from Ohio to Florida, or vice versa, we stopped and ate lunch at the original Colonel Sanders restaurant in Kentucky. Only time we were ever there.  3. Later in the early-mid 1960s, living in Florida, there was a restaurant in Miami that was known for their fried chicken, and we went there a few times. (One or more of those visits could have been in conjunction with going to see a roadshow film in Miami Beach.) My most striking memory of that place is of their individual finger bowls.

Other than those early times, fried chicken for me has been whatever's around. I think for years I didn't bother with it, but during my last couple of years in L.A. I started bringing some home from the Pioneer Chicken on Sunset Blvd. (near Famous Amos), thinking that would be better than KFC or whatever. Whether it really was, I couldn't say, but I always enjoyed it. (Also really liked El Pollo Loco, but that isn't a regular fried chicken like these others.)

Nowadays KFC is the most common for us. We like it and it's convenient and we usually bring home a large bucket. Kristi is nuts over their double crispy so that's our usual. I never had Popeye's until just a few years ago. They weren't in Connecticut, and the only time I was around one was at a couple of the service plazas on the NY Thruway. I found it good but not all that exceptional then, but when we finally got one here in town just a couple of years ago, I was able to learn what's distinctive about them. Stew Leonard's now has their own recipe of fried chicken which is very tasty, and it can be nice to just grab a couple of pieces from there.

Not much to catch up on.  5 performances of Mamma Mia last week and 6 more this week - except I'm missing one as I have my 8th grade class musical on Thursday - The Wizard of Oz - Young Performers Edition - in which I added 3 songs from the Lloyd Webber version cuz I had kids that could sing this year, and really - this show as it is doesn't really have many songs to begin with.

It's looking like now that delivery services (like Postmates) will take care of the food pick-up and delivery, so that the food place doesn't have to be bothered with anything but the cooking and packaging, more places have been signing up to offer home delivery.

Even Five Napkin Burger, which for so long had stayed out of home delivery and had seemed like one of the last holdouts in the Hell's Kitchen area, now takes part through Postmates.

This one was much better prepared than the KFC at Penn Station, which isnjust a few blocks away.

I guess KFC is not as picky as a franchise like McDonald's that the food preparation be pretty much the same in Manhattan as it is in Florida.

I really don't understand holding up fixing subway stations to put in a $400,000 to $1-million elevator as part of the project.

Having a fleet of cars and drivers for the people who would need the elevators (get medical certification, like access-a-ride) within the five boroughs of NYC would cost a fraction of the elevators and the fund could last for  decades - as long as the riders are checked and not allowed to abuse it.

Ive been having food tolerance issues (Dad said they started with him near 60 too), so I haven't had the fried chicken in a while either, but the flank steak vixmom mentioned is amazing.  But we should if it's agreeable have some do here, maybe next time BK had a show in town that gets people converging here?  Or some other time?

He's having an echo cardiogram to check his heart damage.

He was terrified on the trip there and cried all the way.  I felt so sorry for him.

And the Ohio property is listed again!
https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/5744-St_Middletown_OH_45005_M43784-09407?view=qv

You can see what's left of the old driveway at the bottom right of the photo and the widened State Route 122, done around 2008.  The cars are parked in the old driveway to the farm land.  At the top of the photo you can see the new hospital.

That land was evaluated at $675,000 in 2007 when we paid the estate taxes, and we could have sold it but I had two brothers who wanted more for it.  It still rankles.  I hope we can get at least $300,000 for it.

Do both brothers (or either of them) acknowledge that it was a mistake to wait and let a Great Recession start and no doubt other stuff happen in the local area that changed the picture? Do they still dream that it's ever going to be 2007 again?

Macbeth and I do not speak; I blame him and Lady M for their greed and pushing Randy around.  At this point both brothers want to get rid of the property.  We're all sick of paying taxes, but I still let Randy know the mess is on their hands for their mishanfling of the whole thing.

I saw Erik, my therapist, today to try again to undo this whiplash. The last time he worked on me I ached to no end the next day. I strongly suspect that that will be the case again, although Erik doesn't think so.

I then went across the street to my favorite food store. They have very good prepared foods. I bought enough to get me through the next couple days. Better safe than sorry.

By the time I got home I was already aching. I'm definitely in couch potato mode now.

In Lacey, there's a Long John Silver's/KFC combo place and got what was supposed to be two pieces of fish and three pieces of chicken.  I literally couldn't tell them apart. :o They were the same size and shape, AND the same kind of texture that didn't seem like either fish or chicken.  It was really weird, so I've never been back.

I'm afraid to ask what each echocardiogram actually cost.

We've been advised to get one for Poe, because with the kidney disease and a couple more minor things, he now has a slightly irregular heartbeat. It was strong and healthy for probably 15 of his 16 1/2 years, but things can change. We know the place to call to discuss it and get it set up. Anesthesia is an issue with him, too, with the kidney disease, and I really have no idea what a cat getting one involves.

As Amalia Balash sings, "Will wonders never cease? It's been a most peculiar day!"  Thatch and Stella are playing.  Of sorts.  Earlier today she was playing with Annabelle.  She runs at them like a wild dervish and leaps on them, they tussle, there may be some hissing, and they either continue to wrestle or Thatch or Annabelle runs away, pursued by the demonic Stella.

I ran four of the GEE auditions by Muse Margaret, without telling her who they were from - she chose the one I was leaning toward and her second favorite was also the other one I was leaning toward - so, I'm going to have a conversation with the first choice, hopefully soon, see if we can settle on whatever the deal was and make sure she's up on what acx needs, because ultimately that's where it ends up.  And then I'm going to offer the other gal the Adriana book and I'll have the best of both worlds, I think.

I picked up some packages, had McDonald's, listened to music, and got news that September's film music concert was being pushed because getting some of the music was going to be problematic, since it's coming from USC where it's stored, and they are the WORST and SLOWEST of all these nernst about this stuff.  So, it was just going to be too close for comfort.  I'd wanted to do it early next year anyway because it seemed too soon after our first.

I would just like to remind everyone that there's at least ... one (1) person here who has never had a Skip friend <tm> chicken.

Depraved on account of I'm deprived.

I would like to tell you than if I had 2pieces of Skips chicken I would share with you, but let's face it, it would be a bald faced lie, cause I would just eat them both

Make that two.

Liam/LeeLee loves having people over to potentially drop food, I mean, Liam/LeeLee loves having people over to give the place the feel of a party.

I enjoyed fried chicken ok but not enough to order it out very often.  Once we moved down the street from the broasted chicken place in the valley I don't think I even ate fried chicken again.  I suspect the broasted chicken place was better than most, not that I ever ate it anywhere to compare.

Tuesday afternoon greetings!  We had to be at our local hospital at 8:45 this morning for Richard to have a diagnostic nerve block for his neck and shoulder pain.  He was kind of dizzy afterwards, so we picked up sandwiches on the way home instead of our usual brunch in a restaurant.  He’s better now, but taking it easy.

Feel better vibes for Richard

You can see what's left of the old driveway at the bottom right of the photo and the widened State Route 122, done around 2008.  The cars are parked in the old driveway to the farm land.  At the top of the photo you can see the new hospital.

Fried chicken is a wonder, but a roast chicken is divine. When it's done properly, with truffles stuffed under the skin, say, it's one of those you wish to have at your last meal.

Taking a brief Hindemith break and listening to Hans Pfitzner, another composer I knew little about but who was part of that Composers in Person series, where I liked what I heard.  I like what I'm hearing now, too, his Symphony in C - very Mahlerian at time, but his own.

T.O.D.

I still enjoy KFC, but I find myself buying the pot pie or a bowl, rather than chicken pieces.

I want to try Popeye’s spicy chicken.  I found their regular chicken recipe boring.

We used to have Church’s Chicken, which I really liked, but they seem to have all disappeared.

There is a Southern Kitchen in town, which is supposed to have awesome fried chicken.

Wash yer tater and stab it numerous time with a fork so it doesn't explode. Lots of microwaves now w have potato settings do you just have to hit the button.  But if yours doesn't then if it's big cook it 5minutes on high then flip it over and cook another 5 minutes.

If it's small cut the time down.

Important after the microwave stops wait about a minute before you take it out just to be certain it won't explode

Unfortunately you will not get a crisp shell with a microwave it will be soft
