Well, you've read the notes, the notes reviewed the year, part one, and now it is time for you to post until the reviewed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RUBRICATE!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
And the word of the day is: RUBRICATE!
The process of lubricating your Rubik's cube.
-
We will be leaving for Long Island in a couple of hours where we plan to do very little. It's been a long year and I'm looking forward to the down time.
-
I usually call my family in Minnesota on Christmas day and we play pass the phone so Uncle Ben can talk to everyone. This year I'm taking my new tablet and which has Skype so we will do a video chat instead of phone. I've tested everything and systems are go for Skype on Christmas Day (a new song title if ever I heard one).
-
Good morning, all!
I am getting ready for physical therapy, and I need more coffee.
-
I had an endless dream about working on a production of Leonard Bernstein's CANDIDE.
-
I may do laundry when I get home. The jury is out.
-
It's a regular Tuesday. It seems like it should be different somehow.
-
Theatre in 2014? I saw INVENTING MARY MARTIN at the York and GUYS & DOLLS at Carnegie Hall, along with the three Encores! shows, but I don't recall seeing anything else.
-
An early present.

Tuesday morning greetings! Woke up at 6am, thinking about my to-do list, so I got up, had a cup of coffee, and started doing some of the things that were on my mind.
-
George and Mike - saw your posts yesterday. This latest delay just makes no logical sense.
-
Good morning, all.
My endless dream was about my upcoming involvement in a small production of SHE LOVES ME.
Coffee!
-
I bought Herringbone from Amazon and also on iTunes.
If the Kickstarter copy arrives, great. If not, I'm still glad that I supported the project.
-
Speaking of recordings...
A surprising and fun thing happened yesterday as I was sorting through some records (of the vinyl variety). I knew I'd had one of these, but discovered I have both: BK's "Stages" and "Together Again", acquired long ago when I was actively collecting (or just plain accumulating) records. The latter was a still-sealed copy, which I kind of hated opening but of course I did. I fired up the record cleaning machine, cleaned those babies, and spun me some wax. Both were in perfect condition, but I couldn't believe how nice they sounded. The quality of the vinyl, especially is amazing. And you know what? That young man can sing. :)
I'm glad these are in such beautiful condition -- both the jackets and the discs, which now reside in modern protective sleeves. I have the Kritzerland CD, but the real fun is playing these. I guess I never got "Nudie Musical" on vinyl, but maybe I'll do that now, too. It's about time I caught up with the 1970s, don't you think?
EDIT: In reviewing BK's notes on the CD, I see that the "Stages" mix wasn't considered good, and "Together Again" is completely dry. I agree with the latter, but I did like "Stages". What I'll have to do soon is put both the LPs and CD and enjoy a direct A/B test.
-
Good morning.
-
TOD:
We only went to the theatre once this year. We saw an excellent production of THE KING AND I at the ZACH here in Austin.
-
TOD - Most of our theatre-going was in NYC in April and November, but we did see 2 productions by Middletown Lyric Theatre this year: 100 SAINTS YOU SHOULD KNOW in January and SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM in September.
New York highlights include 2 ENCORES! productions, JERSEY BOYS in which we knew the swing who was on that night as Bob Crewe, and (of course) 2 Kritzerland shows.
-
Ketchuping a bit with yesterday, DR Ginny's kitchen work looks wonderful. I'd imagine it felt really nice getting up and seeing it this morning.
-
Yes, DR ChasSmith, it's beginning to feel like "home."
-
Vinyl recordings are still fun to spin....DR CHAS SMITH is correct.
-
My turntable is connected to my surround sound system, so there is really no way to adjust the treble, bass, and other knobs that used to be on the stereo console, so the sound is what it is for me.....
-
I enjoyed being in ACHILLES/ACHILLES SON this year. I also saw a very nice production of PARADE.
I liked directing GUYS & DOLLS this time around....and I loved being in THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER.
-
DR Jrand64, you might have control over bass and treble, etc., buried in a menu somewhere (I think mine are), but I agree that's ludicrous, and an impediment to even wanting to try! However, I fortunately haven't felt the need to make such adjustments for years now. My former stereo amp (a nice one) let me bypass those circuits, and I got used to trusting the recordings and the rest of my system to produce the best balanced sound. My speakers are known for a particularly "flat" response, anyhoo.
Do you play your records over surround sound? I don't. I can play around with different settings when in the mood, and sometimes those can be fun and sound kind of impressive. But I have my turntable and tape inputs set for two-channel stereo (with a little help from the subwoofer). And when I play a CD on the Blu-ray player, I change the audio to stereo.
-
I think your setting up the SKYPE Christmas call is a great idea DR BEN.....I am sure it will be much appreciated.
-
I think they have started celebrating too early at Victoria's Secret. There was just a commercial on television that said all panties are 50% off.
-
Holy cow! We're still on page one?
-
Well, not any longer.
-
On my way home from therapy, I stopped at my bank branch to find the doors locked; they had a robbery or a robbery attempt this morning. I'll check back later in the day. This is the second one in the past 2-3 years. Given that last night's MAJOR CRIMES, which had a wonderful Santa production number, was about a bank robbery, I found it all rather timely.
On the bus, there was a deranged black lady sitting in front of me. Since it's so warm, I wore shorts to therapy, and the first thing she asked me was, Are you from Switzerland? I flippantly answered yes and shed then proceeded to rattle off questions: are you going back today? tomorrow? I answered soon, and tried to ignore her, so she rattled on to no one about anything, then asked a man who boarded the bus what size shoes he wore, then she threw something at a man with a cello case who was sitting across the aisle, who told her not to do it again. She went back to talking to no one until we reached 88th Street when she got off the bus. How do the crazies know where they are going?
-
Sorry to hear about the internet problems at Toyland, DR Elmore. It probably is the router, which these days is easy enough to replace, but of course you wouldn't want to do it without immediate reimbursement. An advance of the funds would be even better.

Anyone have a Keurig?
They are recalling millions of coffeemakers (http://247wallst.com/consumer-electronics/2014/12/23/keurig-recalls-millions-of-coffeemakers/)

Yes, but not that model.
-
I'm up, I'm up - I think I got just eight hours of sleep so that's good, but I could have used more.
-
Guess it's time for a serious talk with the helper - so many mistakes lately, the most recent sending three of the wrong CD to someone who needed them for Christmas presents. The order could not have been clearer. Happening way too much lately. I would hate to have to cut her loose and find someone else I trust as much, but it has to stop. I think her head has just been in the clouds for the last three months - she's in a new romance and all.

So if it's endless, does that mean that you're still in the dream??

Greetings from Otterbein Retirement Community in beautiful Lebanon, OH. I came out to tend to the business side of Mom's move and caught up with her having her hair done. I'm having a cappuccino outside the beauty shop and will wheel her back to her room in her very own chair.

DR George, if I'm still dreaming, it's turned into a very difficult nightmare and a really horrid afternoon. Completely frustrating and difficult to negotiate today. I'm ready to go to bed until all this shit ends.

Good afternoon from Western New York!
-
Hello, everyone.
I slept very poorly and am completely zonked today. I had a dream about moving back in with an old roommate. GAWWDD!! Isn't it interesting how life reminds you how much worse things can be?
-
Ginny, your kitchen looks great! I had grey Corian kitchen countertops in my last house and really liked them. I hope you like these as well. What used to be where the cart is now?

I did some laundry because I'm too muddled-headed today to do what I'd planned to do.

DR Elmore's wicked wit cracks me up, but today he had an assistant. I can understand that it may have been an unnerving experience, but I got a good laugh from it. Sorry, Larry.

If the Kickstarter copy arrives, great. If not, I'm still glad that I supported the project.
I'm glad the project happened, but I paid three times what Amazon is now selling it for. I and everyone else have been waiting for two and a half years, and I shouldn't have to pay even more to get it. :(

Thanks, DR Jeanne! I'm glad the crazy lady - I forgot to add that she hadn't washed in several years - gave you a laugh. When she got off the bus, her BO trailed her like "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" hangs around every entrance and passing of gas of Evita.

I wonder what in the HELL is up with the planets this week.
-
I'm just hoping they leave ME alone. :)
-
By the way, I know her schedule has been from HELL this month, but
where is vixmom??
-
Lots of Mercury activity this week.....so it is a week to be practical and also to get what you want by welcoming change.
-
Good afternoon to all
-
Today was doctor appointments.
It looks like come the new year I will have either a partial or full knee replacement. I will get a second opinion from a doctor who specializes in partial knee replacement.
Also come the new year a multitude of test regarding the thyroid problems and I might be flying up to the Mayo Clinic to see another specialist.
Oh well life will go on I guess :-(
-
Greetings from Otterbein Retirement Community in beautiful Lebanon, OH. I came out to tend to the business side of Mom's move and caught up with her having her hair done. I'm having a cappuccino outside the beauty shop and will wheel her back to her room in her very own chair.
Nice :)
-
DR Mike, I didn't expect such an extreme surgery. I hope whichever one who have solves your knee problems. I know lots of people who have had knee replacements and were all much happier once they recovered. The process wasn't fun though. I don't know anyone who had a partial replacement.
-
Mike, is it easy to get nonstop flights to Jacksonville? What is that, an hour?
-
I spent part of today opening Christmas cards that have been arriving since Thanksgiving. I got a check and soeone sent me a gift certificate for Luke's Lobster, but there was no information on who gave me this lovely gift. I suspected it might be DR Ginny and Richard since we lunched there, but I really have no idea.
-
Ginny, your kitchen looks great! I had grey Corian kitchen countertops in my last house and really liked them. I hope you like these as well. What used to be where the cart is now?
Thanks, DR Jeanne! The cart has always been there, but with no countertop. We had a mammoth microwave on the cart. The micro was old and too tall to sit on the counter, so it went to the landfill today. We were going to buy a new one, but Mom said today she wants to get rid of hers (thank goodness!)
-
DR Elmore, I wish I HAD thought of that gift for you, but, alas, did not. My gifting this year was sidetracked by Mom's sudden move.
-

Excellent timing. I gather your mother's microwave is just the right size.
-
DR Jane, Mom's microwave might be too small, but if she thinks we need it that will discourage her from thinking she needs to be cooking soup in her room.

No, since it's in color.
When I watch the old shows it is a bit of a surprise to go from black & white to color. We have been watching The Lone Ranger in color. In the first episodes the color was uneven. It also went from a set to being filmed outdoors. Sometimes the wind is louder than the voices ;D
-
Supposedly the Lone Ranger is based on Captain John Hughes, seated on the right.

I suppose they aren't as bad in the still photo as in action. I always laugh at the mask comments when in reality I don't think anyone dressed like he did.

"Today' Show Cancels Amy Adams Interview Over Sony Hack Questions"
https://www.yahoo.com/movies/today-show-cancels-amy-adams-interview-over-sony-105967155817.html
While they have the right to do this I think it is wrong of them. I think she showed class by not answering their questions.
-
I liked the Lone Ranger in blue.....it was VERY different. I watched Davy Crockett on Sunday night.....I hadn't seen it when it was released as a movie....and of course back in the first days of Disneyland, it was in black and white.
It was a lot of fun to see it in color. I guess TCM is going to be showing some early Disney TV on a regular basis in 2015.

I like to read books about television series and movie stars and such.
In the past two days, I have read a couple of comments in passing that gave me information I never knew and perhaps might be of interest to MR BK and others here at HHW.
Jack Carson was part of a vaudeville duo before he got into the movies .... his comedy partner was:
Dave Willock.....father of MR BK'S Muse Margaret.
-
The Today Show is a big ol' joke and shame on them for calling themselves a "news organization." Really? They wanted to stir up stuff, that's the bottom line here. She has nothing to do with Sony or what happened to Sony. She was there for one reason, to plug her new movie. Earlier, they'd had Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper on - funny, they didn't ask them about it, because they probably knew that Clint would make mincemeat of them. They thought they could get away with it with Miss Adams, one of the nicest people ever - I'm glad she and her people held firm - the only people who look bad here are the people at the Today Show.
-
In the 4th season of Peyton Place on television, Constance and Elliott had a baby son. That son was played by Mathew Rubin, son of DRUXY's friends, Stanley Rubin and Kathleen Hughes.
-
I've been organizing and putting stuff away, I've got all the plates and cutlery out, I had a nice visit with Nick Redman, and found out that my framing job that was supposed to be ready today, isn't. They promise tomorrow by noon - I gave them plenty of time for this job and told them I had to hang it before the Do - now I'm up against the wall (well) on a day when I really did not want to go out at all and I have cooking to keep my eye on.
-
Perhaps they will deliver it.
-
Keith also likes the blue.

Craig sent us Mallomars. They didn't arrive in great shape so I need to microwave them a bit. The graham cracker base seems to be less flavorful.
-
DR JANE you are correct those pants fit like a ... glove.
-
It is funny Craig should send Mallomars, though very sweet of him, as it was due to his influence that I have pretty much stopped eating marshmallows which are made with gelatin which is not vegetarian.

Did you ever see Clayton Moore's face? It's a nice face.

He also has a very nice voice and often you can hear the humor in it. It is very sweet when he talks to Silver. Jay Silverheels also has a nice voice & they compliment each other.

Frankie and Johnny is a very story-heavy movie for an Elvis movie.....

So true DR JANE.
It was kind of strange when John Hart replaced him for a season or so......
-
Next on MGM HD is Clambake.....a regular Elvis movie.....
-

We started watching the re-runs with Hart so I was ok with it, until Moore returned and you could really see the difference.
-
Yes....almost like Superman's outfit.
Right! I often think superhero when watching. You really don't have to watch this show, just listen to it as if it was still a radio show. I love that about it. Sometimes it is funny though, instead of rushing off to help the stagecoach, or whomever, under attack they need to have a discussion first :)
-
LOL.....I had to go over to Facebook to slap a couple of people around....they insisted that Tim Considine and Tommy Kirk played Frank & Joe Hardy AND Spin & Marty.
-
Ain't it the truth.....at least it wasn't like Gene Autry or Roy Rogers, sometimes they stopped in the middle of everything to sing a song.
Dale Evans was talking on a tv show once and said her horse was so competitive it was all she could do to keep her from passing Roy and Trigger in the chase scenes....if she ended up in front, they had to do it over.
-

Probably because not too many people remember David Stollery's name, I didn't. I liked him and wondered what happened to him. Unlike the other two he left the business young.
"Stollery left Hollywood to pursue his education. Capitalizing on his fascination with auto design, David has made a significant mark in the automobile industry. He is credited with the design of the 1978 Toyota Celica, and has directed the design of over 22 models for the Japanese firm. Stollery most recently has become president of his own manufacturing company, making fiberglass lifeguard towers--the only of their type made in the US. Stollery claims not to miss Hollywood or the fame one bit."
-
I wish Roy sang more in the series, it would have been an improvement.
-
Interesting about David Stollery.....he was in a movie with Greer Garson HER TWELVE MEN that I liked a lot!
Yes, I got pretty sick of Pat and Nellybelle.
-
I can't stand them, Pat & Nellybelle that is.
-
I was kind of wondering if MR BK knew that Dave and Jack were a vaudeville team, but he must not have seen my post.
-
I know, NOT FUNNY at all.....such a drag.
-
I must have seen Twelve Men when I was young but not since then. I would like to see it again.
-
I liked Sky King a lot better than many of the western series.....and of course Superman and Rocky Jones best of all.
-
DR JANE we scared everyone else away.
-
I saw HER TWELVE MEN on Frances Farmer Presents....she said some nice things about Greer Garson....and it was on her "IN COLOR" day, so we got to see it in color. One day a week, Frances showed a movie IN COLOR!!! It was a big deal. Of course her parts of the movie were always in color beginning in 1962, I think.
-
I don't even remember Rocky Jones. I loved Sky King and most of the westerns. Roy Rogers wasn't really a western, just weird.
-
I also watched Superman-loved the comics too.
-
I really must say goodnight & wash the dinner dishes instead of chatting. This was fun.
-
Good night DR JANE.....yes I love chatting!
-
Superman comics were really the only ones I bought....I especially liked the issues with stories set on Krypton.....
-
So sad to be all alone in the world.
-
Well this is the best I can do for a copy of my BANJO performance.....for some reason the video stalls out in several places while the audio continues....but some of it is here.

I just watched the Dutch National Ballet production of Nutcracker and the Mouse King, but I still prefer Balanchine's glorious vision of a German Christmas Eve, which is having its 60th anniversary this year. This production from Amsterdam has several wonderful dancers, and I really liked the backstage interviews with conductor, principal dancers, and crew along with the rehearsal footage.
And so . . . . to bed.
-
That video is blocked as "private", DR Jrand64.
-
OH dear....let me see if I can fix that.

Maybe it will work now.

OH dear, well if it starts in the middle, just start it again from the beginning.

It's working! :)

Tuna pasta salad is made. Watching Judgment at Nuremberg. Soon I'll begin slicing and dicing and mincing, oh my.
-
I could use some tuna pasta salad. Anybody got any?
-
DR Jrand64, congrats. Banjo is very entertaining. I wish I could say the same about one or two other ... elements of the production. 8)
-
good evening I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to pay a cat sitter when I'll only be gone about 36 hours
-
it would be the second time I've cancelled on her but I just don't think it's worth it
-
I have zero Christmas spirit this year. I still need to wrap the gifts, at least I did buy them
-
My mom's cleaning ladies came today. They put up the Christmas tree for her. They had a party tonight with another family we've spent many Christmases with. I have no idea why my mom volunteered to do it. It was really too much for her to do, but she insisted. As my brother says She's a very stubborn old woman, lol. She really is.
-
Done! Very good, DR Jrand64.
I think that video buffering problem is somehow "baked into" the transfer or the upload or something. A couple of times I tried to replay a section, and the freezing would happen in exactly the same place. Very strange.
-
I'm sure it has to do with the original copy DR CHAS SMITH.
-
DR CILLA LIZ - Gift Bags!
-
Thanks DR CHAS SMITH - we are probably thinking about the same "other elements."
-
DR CILLA LIZ - Gift Bags!
Oh I don't mind wrapping
-
I am not very good at wrapping.....I keep tearing the paper!
-
My brother used to have a men's clothing store when I was in college. For Christmas I would work for him for free. I learned the tricks for wrapping gifts there. I got to be pretty quick at it

It's a short plane trip to LA, ChasSmith - just do it.

Garlic is minced, onion is chopped, mushrooms are washed and awaiting slicing in about ten minutes. Just need a break. This part of the process is tiresome but doing it the night before it the way to go.

Such a fun video, DR Jrand64 - thanks for sharing!
My gosh, I don't know how you radiated such energy - I would have found that COMPLETELY exhausting. Animating your face, body, and voice like that has to take its toll!

I am very impressed with a lot of the singing voices in the film version of INTO THE WOODS. I was especially surprised by Meryl Streep. Having seen her in MAMMA MIA, I would have thought of her as the last candidate for a Sondheim musical.

The Grand Theatre in Tacoma will be showing THE INTERVIEW once a day starting on Christmas Day.

Are you watching TV, George?

BK, I would love to try out your spaghetti sauce. Do you think you could send me an envelope full to try?

Are you watching TV, George?
A bit, but not paying attention. I was mainly surfing the 'net and playing solitaire on my computer. You?
-
Okay. I guess I am off to bed.

Okay. I guess I am off to bed.
Take care, Tom. :)

I am waiting for my pain pill to kick-in.
