I slept late, not as late as I wished, but late enough to arouse the ire of three bossy cats, who  - now that the've had a nice hearty breakfast - won't give me the time of day.

This is a day of piddly things: take the trash to the basement, make tuna salad, bathe, prepare for tomorrow's appointment. I did find yesterday the piano score to Glazunov's ballet Raymonda, but I could not find my score for Elgar's Enigma Variations.

The enigma continues to intrigue.

The clues left by Elgar have led to various solutions being offered - from Auld Lang Syne to the National Anthem. But Dr. Clive McClelland believes his solution - the hymn "Now the Day is Over" - is the most convincing. "I've been able to account for all 24 notes, which other theories fail to do," he says.

This chilly and rainy day is perfect for mine own day of piddly things. Music-wise, I need to put a few Drowsy things away, do my periodic straightening up of the Music Room, and I'll sit down at the ivories plastics and play through the five pieces for an intermediate level choral rehearsal on Thursday.

Today will be the big rehearsal for TAO's The King in Yellow that opens on Friday, and I was supposed to be at the rehearsal being the light board operator, but I got a text from pug the director saying that the lighting designer didn't have his script finished, so I really didn't need to be there, and I can just take the day and celebrate my birthday.  But I had gotten a text earlier from Kris the stage manager, asking what kind of snacky bits I like so that they could all celebrate my birthday, so I told pug that I'll show up anyway, well, for a while, at least, and eat some birthday snacky bits, and maybe watch the show.  My family and a few friends are getting together at 4:00, so that's still happening. :)

Sounds like a terrific birthday plan!

If you're going to have snacky bits.

That sounds almost euphemistic!

I have to make the bed, but my other housekeeping chores are finished. The eggs for the tuna salad are boiling, and Dvorak's Requiem is winding up to its lastr three of thirteen movements.

Had a dream in which I was analyzing the lyrics of You Light Up My Life. I remember nothing else.

Finished the Hungarian movie Family Nest. It was devastating.

Family Nest of vipers would be more like it. It started off as a comedy/satire and was a tragedy by the end.
