I slept late, not as late as I wished, but late enough to arouse the ire of three bossy cats, who - now that the've had a nice hearty breakfast - won't give me the time of day.

This is a day of piddly things: take the trash to the basement, make tuna salad, bathe, prepare for tomorrow's appointment. I did find yesterday the piano score to Glazunov's ballet Raymonda, but I could not find my score for Elgar's Enigma Variations.

The enigma continues to intrigue.

The clues left by Elgar have led to various solutions being offered - from Auld Lang Syne to the National Anthem. But Dr. Clive McClelland believes his solution - the hymn "Now the Day is Over" - is the most convincing. "I've been able to account for all 24 notes, which other theories fail to do," he says.

This chilly and rainy day is perfect for mine own day of piddly things. Music-wise, I need to put a few Drowsy things away, do my periodic straightening up of the Music Room, and I'll sit down at the ~~ivories~~ plastics and play through the five pieces for an intermediate level choral rehearsal on Thursday.
