Well, you've read the notes, the notes were flat and bushy, and now it is time for you to post until the Flatbush cows come home.

As promised, here's the special earlybird announcement for the new Kritzerland release.  I think this should please both theater and film fans.  You know the routine - if you want to pre-preorder, just pay directly via paypal to kritzerland at adelphia dot net.  I am still waffling on the price of the CD - it's a little over sixty minutes in length, but I'm still thinking about doing a lower price point - I'm just not sure if it will be $17.98 or $15.98.  But for you hainsies/kimlets will stick with the lower price of $15.98, even if I ultimately go a little higher - so order now to protect that low price.  Plus $3.75 shipping in the US (6.50 overseas).  Please put the title of the CD in your invoice. And here's the blurb:

TWO VERY RARE SCORES MAKE THEIR CD DEBUT!

Kritzerland is proud to present its newest limited edition CD – the incidental music to two Broadway plays – by Alex North and Laurence Rosenthal.

DEATH OF A SALESMAN  Music by Alex North

Arthur Miller’s Death Of A Salesman is generally considered to be the greatest play of the 20th century.   It ran over 700 performances on Broadway, was an instant sensation, garnering Tony Awards for Best Play, Author, Director, Supporting Actor, Set Design, Producer, as well as winning the Pulitzer Prize.  The incidental music for the Broadway production was written by Alex North, who would, of course, go on to work with Salesman’s director, Elia Kazan on several more projects, including the film of A Streetcar Named Desire.  The music is classic North, scored for a very small ensemble that somehow never seems small, but just seems right.  He would later use many of the themes in the film version, but there’s something about these lean and spare original versions that are haunting and wonderful.

RASHOMON  Music by Laurence Rosenthal

Rashomon began life as two short stories by noted Japanese writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa. They were famously adapted for the screen by Akira Kurosawa in 1950.  The film won an Academy Award and became an instant classic, the film telling the same story from multiple viewpoints.  In 1959, Fay and Michael Kanin adapted Rashomon for the stage, using many elements from the Kurosawa film that were not present in the short stories.  The Broadway production ran for 159 performances.  The cast featured the then husband-and-wife team of Claire Bloom and Rod Steiger, and the supporting cast featured Oscar Homolka, Akim Tamiroff, and Ruth White, among others, and the director was Peter Glenville.  Laurence Rosenthal provided the striking incidental music, which has a Japanese flavor, but filtered through Rosenthal’s brilliant musical sensibilities.  Rosenthal would go on to score many classic films, such as A Raisin In The Sun, The Miracle Worker, and three films by Rashomon director Glenville, Hotel Paradiso, The Comedians, and the classic, Becket.

A note on the sources:  The Rashomon source material was in excellent condition and is presented in stereo.  Death Of A Salesman was mastered from disc – several copies were used, but even the best of them was problematic.  Our mastering engineer has done the best possible job in cleaning up the sound, but anomalies remain – the sound on Death Of A Salesman is archival – but we felt that releasing the music far outweighed the less than optimal sound.  We hope you agree.  Due to the archival nature of Death Of A Salesman, we are offering this CD at a special lower price.  A must for both theatre and film score fans!

The CD runs over sixty minutes and the special price is (TBD) plus shipping.

This release is limited to 1000 copies only.

CDs will ship the second week of March – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to three weeks ahead of the street date.

And I'm hoping that this crosses over to our cast album lovers, since it IS theater music and collectable.  Luckily, I have close to 2000 people in Constant Contact, and most of those are people who ordered Evening Primrose, so hopefully at least 10% are theater music collectors.  I'd love to sell at least three hundred of these on the Kritzerland site.

TOD:

My first "real" boyfriend was when I was 15 - Floyd was his name.  He was still my boyfriend when I turned 16.

I met him through a boy in my church with whom I was good friends.  Floyd was his neighbor and they had grown up together and were best friends

Floyd was at my house all of the time but I never met his family, he was Jewish and his mother didn't approve of "mixed dating"

We went to the movies, bowling, ate in the local chinese restaurant, went for long walks (since neither of us could drive yet)  held hands and kissed once in a while.

Mostly we hung out with a  group of friends: there were seven of us -Floyd & me, Steven (who introduced us), Tim, Allen, Sabina (who ended up dating Steven) and Michelle (my bestest friend since we were 14 and still my bestest friend to this day)  All the boys lived on the same block and had since birth they had grown up together.  Allen was also Jewish and all the rest of us belonged to the same church youth group - which is how we all met, the boys and Sabina lived in one town, Michelle in another and I in another.  We had some good times that bunch of us.  All of us (except Michelle)  lived very near the town borders so we saw each other just about every day.

"

I don't remember how or why we "broke up" but we stayed friends for a long time afterward.  He joined the Air Force and we wrote the whole time he was away.  In fact all of the boys eventually joined the armed forces, the other three all joined the army and Michelle joined the Air Force (where she met her husband)

The GI bill was still in effect then and it was the best way for them all to get a college education.  The Vietnam War draft ended just before my senior year at high school - in fact Nixon resigned just a few weeks before I started my senior year so no one was worried about Vietnam anymore.

We lost track of each other after that.

DR Vixmom, it's like the skywalk in Sioux City.  They have them in lots of cities in the upper midwest.  Many of the downtown buildings are connected by walkways that are usually on the first floor above ground level.  They cross streets and go through the buildings.  St. Paul claims to have the longest skyway in the world or something.  Sometimes you have to go 7 blocks to go 2 blocks, so it's not the quickest, but it can be the warmest and dryest.

When you work in Downtown Minneapolis (or Saint Paul) it certainly makes it easier to get around in the winter OR the summer (it can get very muggy and warm in the Twin Cities). The Skyways are climate controlled so you can, if you choose, walk around in shorts in the middle of a snowstorm.

I spent my first ten years on East 14th Street between Avenue H and Avenue I, and went to the Yeshivah of Flatbush for ten years (from third grade through the end of high school).

Yes, Anthony is safe and sound in Fort Atkinson. He began rehearsals yesterday. For the first two weeks he's staying at a small hotel. The cast housing is full with the current show's cast and crew. He will move into cast housing a couple of days before the show opens. Right now he has complimentary breakfast, a pool, a hot tub, a sauna and a small gym area. The people from the hotel remember him and he's very happy to be back in Wisconsin.

I wasn't sure whether to brave posting this link to a video just finalized last night, but the coincidence of the notes being about Flatbush and Brooklyn made me say what-the-heck.

It's a video (including photo montage) of my song "Brooklyn Boy" whence came the moniker BklynBoy, a simple piano demo that I sang here in the apartment - and the last part winds up in Flatbush.  It's sung by a highly opinionated character in the show it was written for, so opinions about other places in New York reflect the character's biases, not mine.  :)

It's not a parody, though, but I hope it brings a smile - we've put a couple of other non-parody songs of mine up over the past few days.

Thanks to Classmates.com I've reconnected with a friend from grades 1-12, now retired from the faculty of the U of Massachusetts, whom I've not seen in 44 years. The most bizarre thing: he and his wife are now living at 86th Street and West End Avenue, four blocks from me.

Last night, I met a friend from the Cast Recording List for drinks at an Irish pub on 86th Street at 6 pm. The place was empty but by 8:30, the bar was packed with too many noisy drunks - ourselves excluded - and too loud music. I was happy to be home in time for THE CLOSER.

DR Laura - In Houston, there's a whole underground network of tunnels between a number of the buildings downtown. A much cooler walk in the summer.

First BF was Dan A. I was 21 he was 25, he was in the National Guard and also worked as a bus driver. Dan was none too bright and spent most of his time cheating on me, but other then that he was a nice guy. We were off and on for about 2 years.

He still lives in Salem and I have run in to him a number of times over the years...but I have yet to see him sober.  ::)

Thanks to everyone who watched the video!

In fact, if you just keep running it while you're working, away from your desk, going to the bathroom, etc, it'll help get those times-watched numbers up.  I think it actually works that way!  :)  :)  Just kidding - really!!!

Today is the 60th anniversary of the opening of Arthur Miller's DEATH OF A SALESMAN at the Morosco Theatre.

New on tv tonight for me:

American Idol Hollywood auditions (hopefully they will show more of the contestants we have not seen).

Privileged, 90210.

Project Runway canada.

I saw tonight's new Mentalist on Sunday. Not bad.

Also i don't know if anyone here watches this, but they are moving last night's True Beauty to tonight at 10pm (abc).

DR Vixmom, i just read your update about you sleep in the same recliner day and night.

Did you mention this problem to your doctors. Maybe the symptoms are more pronounced at certain times. Even with regular illnesses i know sometimes they are worse at certain times of the day!

Maybe you could sleep during the day and stay up at night?

First real boy friend was my freshman year in college. He was a sophomore, the center on the football team. Going to a church affiliated college, you can imagine that our relationship had to be SUPER clandestine. It did not end happily. He took a lot of ribbing from his jock buddies for being seen with me (who was a 125 pound weakling) and basically ended it a few weeks before the end of the year because of the pressure they were putting on him. On the last day of the term, he came to see me in my dorm room. He told me he had been desperately unhappy, had failed every exam, and wasn't returning to college, but he begged me to get back with him. I refused. Having my heart broken once was enough. Last I heard he enlisted in the Marines (this was during the Vietnam War). Years later when in Washington, D.C., I checked the Wall for his name, and it wasn't there, so he at least survived it.

TOD:

First girlfriend in 1st Grade:  Vangie Holmes.  She had the most wonderful pony tails.  She lives in a Charleston SC mansion and participates in the social scene there.  She has two sons and three grandchildren.

Second girlfriend in 4th and 5th grades:  Ginger Anderson.  She didn't know it.  But I did.  After moving around town and attending two more schools, I found myself in high school with her.  It was well known she had a "college guy" for a boyfriend throughout high school.  He couldn't get away for Senior Prom.  I was there.  And Ginger said yes.  So...she was my prom date!

Third girlfriend in 7th grade:  Aloma Douana Perscilla Culpepper.  Now there was a hip chick!  Have no idea whatever became of her, but I wish her only good things.

Object of adoration from afar circa 1965-66:  Miss Amy Irwin who participated in many Greenville Little Theater productions.  Way out of my league at the time.  Miss Irwin made at least one Hollywood film -- Robert Altman's "A Wedding" in which she played Muffin, the bride of Desi Arnaz, Jr. -- and was billed as Amy Stryker (Stryker being her mother's maiden name) because it was felt her real name was too close to that of another Amy...Amy Irving.

College -- Golly.  So many.  Linda Duck.  Mary Belle Lawton.  Ruth Gellerstedt.  Marian Stubbins.  Judy Henson.

None of them quite stuck, though.  Something in the chemistry no doubt!

Well that was fun!  For those of you who aren't familiar with the judicial heirarchy, the Circuit Courts of Appeals are one step below the United States Supreme Court. So if you appeal from here you could go to the Supremes.  That'won't happen in this case as it's not the sort of issue that the Supreme Court would agree to hear

BUT, I forget the pomp and circumstance and what a privilege it is to argue before the Circuit.  I'm in the 8th because they cover the middle of the country (essentially).    I went to their conference in Chicago last August, so even though I've been here before, this time it was a lot more comfortable.  I didn't have the nerves and just enjoyed the moment. There were lots of questions from the three judges on our panel and I love the back and forth with them.  They even offered me extra time!  I didn't have much to add, but hey, you can't pass that up.

So now, I'm off to find some food.  Then I'll probably just check out and head to the airport.  I don't think I can make an earlier flight, but if there is one I may try to stand by. If not, I'm fine with waiting.

DR MattH, don't even bother with AS THE WORLD TURNS, whose logic and poor writing leave me in awe; they're all tied up in the kidnapped baby plot. Never have the cities of New York and Chicago been so conveniently located: people turn up in the blink of an eye in either city, and on today's episode there are four principals, one of them the mother of a kidnapped child, in Central Park dealing with baby kidnappers and a plot to sell her kidnapped child. WHERE THE HELL ARE THE POLICE OR THE FBI???? Is the soap too cheap to hire extra actors? And why does Central Park, with no traffic and no crowds, look like it's somewhere in Yosemite instad of Manhattan? Does no one at CBS care about the idiocy of any of this?

It isn't as moronic as the plots on PASSIONS, the queerest soap ever written by a demented queen and way too full of his psychosexual hangups, but I don't know why soap writing is generaly so inept.

The good news is I just got a check today, so I'm off to the bank.

I may watch RICHARD III this afternoon, starring Laurence Olivier and as my ancestor Lord Stanley, Laurence Naismith.

And even though I will be missing NCIS and THE MENTALIST, I may stick around TCM and watch ROOM AT THE TOP.....which I have never seen.....

Just out of curiosity, DR Cillaliz, are you licensed to argue before SCOTUS?

No, but I could be very easily. It's just an application, a check, the signature of 2 people already admitted and a certificate of good standing from the State Supreme Court.

Greetings from MSP.  I came to the airport early. This place is like a city in and of itself.  There are tons of stores with some reallye unique and nice stuff.  I did a little shopping, then decided to get a hair cut.  I like it.  I was thinking about a massage but decided just to grab a California Roll and hang out near my gate.

I have been looking for an out of print children's book for AGES - it was my Mom's when she was little . I loved it and it got lost somewhere along the line

It's a "Chapter book" as they say and it was called something like Tommy and the Golden Way or the Way of Gold.  It's about a boy and his imaginary land he "discovers" in his Dad's work shop - must be from the 30's or early 40's at the latest

I have been looking for it online and in used book shops for years with no success

If you see it - grab it for me please!

It's not a parody, though, but I hope it brings a smile - we've put a couple of other non-parody songs of mine up over the past few days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiQRDVKvf5Q

(Thanks as always to Jose's roommate Jim for making the video/photo components come together.)

This was great!  And the singer's not bad, too. ;)

Oh, I WISH I had read this before wasting even five minutes skimming through that show on the DVR. It looked as stupid as DR Elmore's description. And nothing in the previews either.

Congrats and good luck, Cilla!! ;D

Heading down now to check the mail and then start on lunch preparation.

I did NOT get any mail yesterday - either USPS or UPS review copy shipments. I was NOT a happy camper.

WBBL.

I received three, count 'em THREE packages at work today!  One held the reissue of BK's The Anastasia Affaire, now called Anastasia: The Musical (http://www.amazon.com/Anastasia-Musical-premier-recordings-Forrest/dp/B000006AU6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1234299708&sr=1-1) (plus premier recordings of Wright and Forrest songs from At The Grand/Betting On Bertie/Grand Hotel/Kean) in preparation for the Kritzerland release of the original Anya. :)

The second package contained the new complete recording of Allegro (http://www.amazon.com/Rodgers-Hammersteins-Allegro-Complete-Recording/dp/B001L5DSP2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1234299870&sr=1-1) and the songbook to the musical revue, It's Only Life (http://www.amazon.com/Its-Only-Life-John-Bucchino/dp/1423457080/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234299936&sr=8-1).  My absolute favorite song from this revue is "Playbill."  Patti LuPone recorded it on her CD, "Matters of the Heart (http://www.amazon.com/Matters-Heart-Patti-LuPone/dp/B00001QGL9/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1234300060&sr=8-2)."

I watched HOBSON'S CHOICE afterward. Despite DR JRand's dislike of it, it's always been a delightful film to me. I love Charles Laughton's over-the-top performance amid the regular playing of everyone else, and the story, a view of the feminist movement decades before it happened, is both funny and poignant. And Lean's direction is superlative. His "small films" have always had enormous appeal to me, and this one, his next to last small project before he began his massive epics with KWAI, is a near perfect rendering of a stage warhorse.

Next I listened to the audio commentary. It's a team, the guys who wrote the book on Lean's films, and their dialog is part analysis (not always astute) and part factual (some errors there like saying Brenda de Banzie won a Tony for THE ENTERTAINER; she didn't. Anne Bancroft took it that year in TWO FOR THE SEESAW.)

After skimming through AS THE WORLD TURNS, I ended my afternoon watching the first 20 minutes of last night's '24.' There was something wrong with my HDMI connection last night when I attepmted to start watching the show at about 9:20, and since I didn't want to stop the DVR and reboot it (for fear of missing stuff), I just let it go and jumped over to over-the-air HD to watch the last 40 minutes of the show. When I went to bed last night, I did reboot the cable box, and it was right as rain this afternoon so I could watch the first part of '24' which I had missed.

Glad I got to see it. It had Jack's meeting with President Cherry Jones and the reuniting of Agent Walker with her lover from the agency who thought she had been killed.

DR JRand58, did you ever get your DVDs of "Man of La Mancha" from various places? The vendor is having a good one-day sale at the moment.

Speaking of "Man of La Mancha," the third package that I received today was the book, Cardenio or the Second Maiden's Tragedy (http://www.amazon.com/Cardenio-Maidens-Tragedy-William-Shakespeare/dp/0944435246/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234300565&sr=8-1), attributed to William Shakespeare and John Fletcher.  The main character, Cardenio (a.k.a. Govianus, the deposed King), is "a bizzarre character in Cervantes's Don Quixote," which was first published in England around the time that this play was written.  I suggested this to TAO (the theater group with whom I've been working) as a possibility for their summer Shakespeare show.  They like to do different things, and probably no one's heard of this. :)

What ever became of this film?  Why hasn't it ever been released onto home video?
I blame the lack on the film getting slapped with a X-rating.

R is acceptable.  XXX is a sure sales-getter.  A simple X - no one understands what that means.  How can you sell a film that has but a single X?

It was one of Sondheim's longest Broadway runs but I think it's a pathetically bad show. I know I'm in the monority, but PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is still running, too, and it's dramatically worse than INTO THE WOODS.

It's also one of the noisiest productions ever: too much screaming and other nonsense on the DVD. Ugh.

I had a few crushes in middle and high school, but my first boyfriend/relationship was with Steve. I was 30. We were together for three and a half years.  The break-up did hurt, but was amicable - we had both just grown into different people.  We're still close, good friends.  :)

Back from lunch....meatball soup, chicken parmesan (with mozzarella rather than parmesan!!!).

Most "whatever Parmesan" is made with a slice of mozzarella, and then a sprinkling of Parm on top.  Mozzarella melts better, and gets those neat-o strings.

Not a flake or fleck of parmesan in sight on either of those two thinly sliced, melted pieces of mozzarella.  The sauce underneath the chicken was yummy, though.

BK - I purchased my copy of the new release and dutifully listed the names of the shows in the Additional Comments space.  However, Paypal bounced me through one extra step, so I am not sure the notes were still left intact.

Interesting!  After I posted this, I suddenly thought that intact didn't look right.  So, I did a word search on it and it came up saying, "Try also virginity."  Now I really wonder if I used the wrong word!

I think "virginity" is well out of it in your case, DR TCB.  "Intact" also means "whole" and applies to things other than anatomical parts.

Sober? You or him?

Still having these crummy nights - as the sun comes up I feel better.  I do not understand this.  What possible connection can there be to the daylight and my salvitory glands?

Nighttime just seems to be that way.  I have no idea why.  Is there a difference between your morning medications vs before bed?

I look forward to the morning your post is all about the good night's sleep you had.

And they still go ahead and kill her in the worst show Sondheim ever worked on!

We are very fond of this show.  Of course that may be because Vixdad & I  took both sets of parents to see it when his folks came to see us from England and we have such fond memories of that visit.  Years later Vixdad's Mum sent me the DVD of the original cast and we watch it every year when we set up our tree.  The Vixter loves it too.

We are all liable at a drop of the hat to start singing " Agony!!! Much more painful than YOURS!!!!!!'

Horses for Courses as Tomovoz says
Der Brucer and I love it, too.  It was the first Sondheim musical that I got to see "blind," since we went down to San Diego and scored tickets during it's pre-Broadway Old Globe run.  This was very soon after "No More" and "No One Is Alone" were added.  And, yes, "Agony" was a standout song - I was humming it as we left the theater.  I still do, on occasion.

I'm not in love with the changes made for the revival, but that's just me.

Worst show Sondheim ever worked on?  Not by a long shot.  (We also saw Bounce in DC, so I've got a basis for my opinion.)

Oh...

"We" have a kitty.  Sort of...

Over the weekend, one of the stray cats ended up endearing himself/herself(?) to one of my roommates.  And then another.  They have named her "kitty", and are looking into getting Kitty spayed or neutered, as well as all the necessary shots.  So...

Kitty is still an outdoor cat - and, will most likely stay an outdoor cat - but Kitty will probably head indoors every now and then for a visit.  I think.

I've never been much of a pet person mainly due to the fact that my schedule has never been constant or regular enough for that responsibility.  And the two roomies who endeared themselves to Kitty also have irregular schedules.  So... We shall see.

*Kitty seems to have quite a loud "meow".

Well...  It's really not so much a "story" as a report.

One young gentleman apparently thought he would be more comfortable not dancing in his dance pants, so he took them off.  At first, we thought he had on a pair of "Grecian underwear" or some other kind of "dance short".  Well...

After the dancers learn the combinations, they are broken down into smaller groups for the dance-callback proper.  When the monitors started to line up everyone, well...

It was one of those situations where everyone was trying to look anywhere but at him - and at each other.  He wasn't naked, but he was dancing in underwear - boxer briefs... Which he "pulled up" on the sides.  Thankfully, he had pinned his number to his chest and not to the hem of shirt.  ::)

Press Release from ABC on Death of Phil Carey

02.10.2009

Phil Carey, best known for the role of Asa Buchanan on ABC Daytime's ONE LIFE TO LIVE, passed away at his home in New York City on Friday, February 6, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen, and their two children, Shannon and Sean, and his three children Lisa, Linda and Jeff from a previous marriage.

Mr. Carey originated the role of ONE LIFE TO LIVE's formidable business tycoon, Asa Buchanan, in 1980. He was born Eugene Joseph Carey on July 15, 1925 in Hackensack, NJ and raised in the suburban Long Island towns of Rosedale and Malverne. Diagnosed with lung cancer in 2006, he took medical leave from the show to undergo treatment, but returned to the role later that year.

On ONE LIFE TO LIVE, the character of Asa Buchanan died in his sleep on August 16, 2007. The life of Buchanan family patriarch was celebrated on the show's 10,000th episode on August 17, 2007. Mr. Carey made three subsequent appearances on the show, and was last seen when Asa read an addendum to his will on December 29, 2008.

"He was like 'Pa' to me," said his on-screen son Robert S. Woods (Bo Buchanan). "My own father passed away in 1975, and I met Philly in 1979. For those 30 years he has been like a father to me. I don't know if I could love him more if he was my dad."

"In a week where we said goodbye to Clint Ritchie (ex-Clint Buchanan), the overwhelming news of Phil Carey's death was truly a profound loss to the ONE LIFE TO LIVE family," said Executive Producer Frank Valentini. "His presence will always be a part of ONE LIFE TO LIVE. The best way to describe Phil was bigger than life. Like Asa, he possessed an undeniable quality that drew you to him, whether he was amusing you with a story or he was just plain ornery. We can only imagine that he and Clint Ritchie are sitting back and having a drink together. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Colleen, and his five children."

"I was incredibly fond of Phil Carey," said ONE LIFE TO LIVE cast member Erika Slezak. "I loved that man very much. He was larger than life, like his character of Asa. He was a central figure on the show and to everyone at 'One Life to Live.' When Phil was in the building, you knew it. He will be sorely missed. I was so honored to have the privilege to work with him one final time for our 40th Anniversary show."

Mr. Carey was very proud of his service as a U.S. Marine Corporal in World War II and the Korean War. One of the survivors on the U.S.S. Franklin, he was honored with the Asiatic Pacific 9 Stars World War II victory medal after he was wounded in the attack that cost the lives of hundreds of his crewmates and made the Franklin the most heavily damaged carrier to survive the war.

Mr. Carey harbored dreams of being an actor all his life. He studied drama at the University of Miami, but it was back on Long Island where he got his break. During a summer stock production of "Over 21," a representative of Warner Bros. spotted him and asked him to take the screen test that launched his film career. His first feature film, Operation Pacific, starred John Wayne and led to a long-term contract with Warner Bros. During his time at Warner's and later at Columbia Pictures, Mr. Carey starred with some of Hollywood's legendary actors, including Gary Cooper in Springfield Rifle, Henry Fonda in Mister Roberts, Peter Fonda in Fighting Mad and Tyrone Power in The Long Gray Line. In addition he starred with Fred MacMurray and Kim Novak in Pushover, the first film in which Miss Novak appeared as the leading lady.

Mr. Carey starred in a number of primetime television series such as PHILIP MARLOW, BENGAL LANCERS, LAREDO and THE UNTAMED WORLD, and guest-starred on ALL IN THE FAMILY, LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, POLICE WOMAN, THE BIONIC WOMAN and GUNSMOKE. Additionally he toured in such stage plays as Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" and "Cyrano de Bergerac."

Mr. Carey experienced the world doing what he loved most. His family fondly remembers his countless entertaining stories from exotic locations. One of his favorite anecdotes came after the filming of the television series LAREDO, when he portrayed Granny Goose in the surprisingly popular series of commercials for Granny Goose Potato Chips. In addition he was an avid golfer, and often played with Dean Martin at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. Looking back on Phil Carey's time with Robert S. Woods and Clint Ritchie on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, they undeniably were the Rat Pack of the soap opera world.

Here is the announcement on the passing of Clint Ritchie

Clint Ritchie: 1938-2009

From Soapnet.com / Soap News and Scoops

We are so sad to even be typing these words: Clint Ritchie, who we all grew to know and love from his almost 20-year run as "One Life to Live"'s Clint Buchanan, has passed away.

Clint -- who originated the role of Mr. Buchanan in 1979 -- died on January 31 following the installation of a pacemaker. Cause of death, per Radar magazine, was due to a blood clot that formed post-surgery. He was 70.

Prior to joining "OLTL," Ritchie starred in numerous TV westerns of the '50s and '60s, as well as films such as "Patton" and the amazing disaster movie "Earthquake." But it was his role as Clint, the newspaper publisher/cowboy that made Viki (Erika Slezak) realize she could love again, that endeared him to millions. Clint is seen here in all his early 80s glory with pa Asa (Phil Carey) and brother Bo (Robert S. Woods), both of whom were real life friends. Ritchie retired in 1998, but the character of Clint Buchanan made sporadic "OLTL" appearances until 2004. In 2005, Jerry verDorn took over the role.

Ritchie lived on a 60-acre ranch called the Happy Horse near Sacramento, CA. He was very famously injured there in 1993 when a tractor upended and ran over him. Despite critical injuries, he made a full recovery.

He never married nor had children.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones. Rest in peace, Clint! You were SO awesome as Clint B.!

It's not a parody, though, but I hope it brings a smile - we've put a couple of other non-parody songs of mine up over the past few days.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiQRDVKvf5Q

(Thanks as always to Jose's roommate Jim for making the video/photo components come together.)

This was great!  And the singer's not bad, too. ;)

Let me add my congratulations.  Great song!

I don't know about Jack, but I said I would vote for a root canal, or HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3, or some other fate; rather than watch HOBSON'S CHOICE.

Can Hieronymous Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe And Find True Happiness

What ever became of this film?  Why hasn't it ever been released onto home video?
I blame the lack on the film getting slapped with a X-rating.

R is acceptable.  XXX is a sure sales-getter.  A simple X - no one understands what that means.  How can you sell a film that has but a single X?

BK - I purchased my copy of the new release and dutifully listed the names of the shows in the Additional Comments space.  However, Paypal bounced me through one extra step, so I am not sure the notes were still left intact.

Interesting!  After I posted this, I suddenly thought that intact didn't look right.  So, I did a word search on it and it came up saying, "Try also virginity."  Now I really wonder if I used the wrong word!

I think "virginity" is well out of it in your case, DR TCB.  "Intact" also means "whole" and applies to things other than anatomical parts.

I don't know about that, Ron.  There is one theory that if you go more years without sex, than years that you had sex; you are allowed to start again.

DR Jane, I asked the doctor about that.  My new lenses will be bifocals, but they will be progressive; they won't have a distinct dividing line.  He said that 98% of lenses made now are progressive - the holdouts are elderly who only know the old method and don't want to switch.

That is interesting.  Adjusting the reading portion helped me to adjust to the lenses.  I expect the way you are doing it really will be easier, & I'm glad you won't have a line across the middle of your lenses ;)

The big problem with progressives, or even the old-style bifocals, is where they locate the change from one focus to another.  I've been wearing bifocals for years now, and still have problems.  What I really need are trifocals - for reading, for working with computers, and for real life.

I, too, wear a progressive lens, but it's not perfect. Some people LOVE them and take to them immediately. I did not. My optician thinks it was because there wasn't enough of a difference between my distance Rx and my reading Rx; indeed, as my reading Rx changed, the progressive lens because more comfortable.

I would quarrel with the doc who said that bifocals are only for the elderly who don't want to change. Because of the way the "smoothing" (changing from one Rx to another) is calculated, sometimes a patient cannot be fitted properly with a progressive lens. That is the consensus on my new progressives; "that's the best they can do" I've been told by both my optician and my pal, Dave. Whereas, if I chose a bifocal, the two Rxs could be correct.

I can see your difficulty, plus you have to return to pick up the new glasses.  When was your last eye exam?  If you have a prescription & all the measurements it might be worth buying them online.  There are some very discounted places on the internet.  The cost might be low enough to make it worth a try.

I like those skyways. I wonder if it would work here in the desert where it is so hot in the summer? I don't know if people walk around downtown that much. Most people don't work downtown.

DR Laura - In Houston, there's a whole underground network of tunnels between a number of the buildings downtown. A much cooler walk in the summer.

Same in Toronto. A much warmer walk in the winter!

I met my first boyfriend the summer I moved to Georgia. He had moved here from California a year earlier and we both felt a bit out of place here. I remember very clearly the first time I saw him. My mom and brother and I had driven to the Dairy Queen, one of the few places to go near our house. It was really out in the sticks then; now it's all developed.

My mom gave me a $20 to get their order and this cute guy was working at the window. When our eyes met it was really as though sparks went off. He gave me change for a $10 instead of a $20 and I didn't even notice the error, we were too busy looking at each other. I saw him there a few more times before school started, and then I was very happy to see that he went to my high school.

It took a little while before we went out. I dated a couple of football jocks who were older than me, and went on a few double dates. But my first official date with my boyfriend was to a movie. We weren't old enough to have drivers' licenses, so my mom dropped us at the theatre and his mom picked us up. He lived very close to my house! We went to see "Walking Tall"...pretty romantic, LOL!

I dated him for a year and a half and broke up with him to date a musician. I dated the musician for 5 years and left him for someone in his band, who became my husband #1.

Oddly enough, I've reconnected with my very first boyfriend via Facebook. We've caught up with everything, but his wife and I have been friends since college so she and I write to each other almost every day, and we may get together in the near future.

I don't know about Jack, but I said I would vote for a root canal, or HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3, or some other fate; rather than watch HOBSON'S CHOICE.

Spoo! Sorry, DR Jrand.

I guess there goes another horse race. I gave it a very positive review.

I will say that playing the Narrator/Mysterious Man in INTO THE WOODS was one of the most challenging assignments I've ever had in a theatrical production. There were just SO many words, and I had to make a couple of split-second changes to go from one to the other. And be able to walk back out and just start spouting more narration. I was constantly having to think about the next change, the next set of lines.

Very satisfying to say the least but I was exhausted after every performance. So, needless to say, the show has a very special place in my heart.

Today we rode the light rail with the goal of photographing the public art at each platform. We almost made it. Here is some public art we saw:

So maybe Bruce Yeko will remaster the albums that you didn't get to do and he will make sure that Guy Haines' recordings will the light of day again

Maybe he and BK can collaborate and finish the Sherman Brothers CD the way it should've been done. ;)

Just read that Molly Bee died Saturday of complications from a stroke at age 69.

Poor thing. She had a pretty hard life.

I have not heard of her. Can you tell us what she did?

I had some time before I wanted to start watching TV, so I put in BLACK NARCISSUS. Such a haunting movie.

Next, I watched last night's HEROES. Involving episode and a good start to the season. I certainly hope Hiro can regain his powers. It's a less interesting show when he's without because without powers, he's not very interesting.

AMERICAN IDOL had a little more singing, but I was surprised by some who made it. Quite a few of the ladies were singing way off pitch. And more melisma than I think I've ever heard before.

NCIS had a good episode involving the unit in gang warfare, not typical turf for them. And a neat little twist at the end after leading us down a certain path. Good job!

I am supposed to go to Omaha by 8:30 AM for a seminar, but I've decided not to go.  So I have the next two days blocked off. I can't wait. I'm going to be working in my office and not have any appointments or court hearings.   Since I have 2 jury trials in March and a number of things happening between now and then, it will be a welcome time to get some hours in and get some work done.

Molly Bee was a country singer who was on the Tennessee Ernie Ford variety show and also appeared with Arthur Godfrey.  She was briefly married to Kenny Miller - B movie star - and had a brief film career herself.

When asked about her movie "Chartruse Caboose" Miss Bee told one interview:  "It was not released, it escaped."

And of course she could yodel:

In the late 1990's she lost part of her nose to skin cancer....they rebuilt it with skin from her ear....but she retired from show business.

I'm saying "maybe" that's what's happened - or maybe he's going to run it - who knows, who cares?  Not me. Frankly, I'd rather just see it all go away and my recordings come back where they belong - to me.

Finished watching The Yellow Rolls Royce and am now listening to CDs.  I had a craving and I'm afraid I satisfied it by going to Gelson's and getting a Parisienne cake and having a nice big slice.  Sometimes one simply must.  I'll bring the rest to someone tomorrow.  I've had my cake and ate it, too, and I don't need anymore.

The trouble with an art walk is that you often see other things that look almost as arty.

How romantic!

Looks like someone scraped pooh off his shoes:

We weren't sure: sometimes broken dishware IS the art in this town.

We think this is a security camera, so I'm not sure if we ever found the art at the station or not.

Looks like someone Jackson-Pollocked all over the art at this station.

Someone left some scones from Trader Joe's.
