The Madrid DVD of "The Barber" had a great cast and a director who didn't trust the singers to keep the audience's attention: during al the vocal pyrotechnics, he had dancers needlessly prancing in and ot of the scenes. If I were Mr Florez, I wouldhave stopped singing and asked, what the hell do you want, me or them? and if the director said them, I would have walked. He also spoiled the funny moment in the Act One finale when the police arrive by showing them gettign ready on the side of the stage. Why is it so many incompetent morons make a living by doing lousy work? On the plus side, his Act Two Finale, with Almaviva and Rosina flying off in a balloon, was quite lovely and now I cannot get the tune for the bolero finale out of my head. Well, it's better than "Mattilda."
