Well, you've read the notes, the notes were filled with pith, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're all wearing garter belts now, in homage to the gazelle.

I know this is related to yesterday's discussion but I thought I would still share it.

Not sure if you are all aware of what the Library Of Congress has on their site but they have a bit dedicated to a page called American Memory. This part of the site is chuckful of goodies including music.

I thought I would share some of the online collections... The Slave interviews are interesting.

DakotaCelt, if I remember correctly, you had asked about library patrons using cell phones in the library.  Have you ever heard of an Internet comic strip called Unshelved™ (http://www.overduemedia.com/)?  It's about a library in the fictional (I think) Mallville Public Library (http://www.overduemedia.com/primer.aspx).

Anyway, I recently discovered it and I went back to some of their previous strips and they had a week on cell phone use!  Click HERE (http://www.overduemedia.com/archive.aspx?strip=20060918) to see the first strip in the cell phone series.  Click on the ">" box (third box from the left) underneath the strip to go to the next day.  It's pretty funny. ;D

You can also sign up to get it every day through e-mail!

Topic of the Day:

In my CD player:  two CDs that just arrived yesterday!  Audra McDonald's new CD, "Build a Bridge (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HDR92C/104-9264336-3384736?ie=UTF8)" and the 2006 Original Off-Broadway Cast recording to I Love You Because (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HDZJYC/104-9264336-3384736?ie=UTF8)!

In my VCR:  several tapes of TV shows from the last couple of weeks.  Late last night, I went through the tapes and wrote down what all the shows are on them.  The plan is to someday watch them all. ::) Tonight, the new season of "Battlestar Galactica" starts!  I plan to watch it but will tape it just in case something comes up and I'm not home.

In my DVD player:  "Grease (http://www.amazon.com/Grease-Rockin-Rydell-Randal-Kleiser/dp/B000GBEWHA/sr=1-3/qid=1160122036/ref=sr_1_3/104-9264336-3384736?ie=UTF8&s=dvd)" (I've never owned this on DVD), all 26 episodes of "Victory At Sea (http://www.amazon.com/Victory-at-Sea/dp/B000A2XC7Q/sr=1-2/qid=1160122130/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-9264336-3384736?ie=UTF8&s=dvd)" (for only $9.95...but someone on Amazon.com wrote that this specific release is abridged! :P) and "Gojira (http://www.amazon.com/Godzilla-Gojira-Deluxe-Collectors-set/dp/B000FA4TLQ/sr=1-1/qid=1160122410/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-9264336-3384736?ie=UTF8&s=dvd)."

Well... It's raining here... And I just hope the rain doesn't end up dampening NYC too much the rest of this weekend for all the visiting Hainsies and Kimlets.  -However, I sometimes like NYC in the rain.  It's a great excuse to stay inside... shopping.  ;)

In any case... I'm just trying to figure out if my flight down to Ft. Lauderdale will get delayed... And speaking of flights...

I should be departing DCA about three hours (10:25) from now for Ft. Lauderdale - with a stop in Charlotte.  -I'll wave to you, DR MattH!  The cruise doesn't start until tomorrow, but we have a brief meeting/briefing/rehearsal tonight.  I still have a little bit of packing to take care of - along with my usual last minute un-packing and re-packing.. ;-)  So...

Laters....

Safe travel vibes to DR Jose...have a fabulous time..

Friday morning greetings!  As DR Cillaliz told you last night, we had a delightful Thursday in the park with Jose and then a truly enchanted evening at dinner, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Joe Allen.  Visiting the Marquis stage and visiting with 2 members of the cast over drinks and snacks afterwards were once-in-a-lifetime experiences.  DR Elmore was instrumental in creating a truly magical evening and DH Richard and I are truly grateful  :-*

Today, it's back to reality for me - my conference starts in a little over an hour, so I'd better make my way over to Fifth Avenue to catch my bus to work.

Happiest of birthdays to DR JMK!

Travel vibes to DR Jose!

We're going to call it an early evening tonight, so I'll be back then to sit a spell...

The problem finding an answer - it was NOT Hitchcock!

Wow! I am impressed! You certainly may play your cross-hands piece! (My cat has already played her cross-paws peice today...)

I searched and searched, but my problem was i was always including the word "Hitchcock"! Thanks for finding that, and solving the puzzle of what to get my father for his birthday. I'm ordering this right now!

Although I probably wouldn't have changed my mind, had I known that Lenny Wolpe was joining the group at Joe Allen's I may have been tempted to stay last night. I'm sure he doesn't remember me because I haven't seen him for 30 odd years but we were at the University of Minnesota at the same time. I was beginning and he was ending his time there. I was there beginning as Mary Pat Gleason and Lenny Wolpe and Marianne Muellerleile were ending. They all went on to solid careers out in California. I would love to have spoken to him about old friends and old times. He is wonderful as Feldzig in DC. He was in NY for a while when I moved here but he has spent most of his time in California and has a family and a solid career out there. I'm glad he's back in NY for a while.

As others have said, it was a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful evening in the theatre last night. Thank you Jane, again, for your tickets. And thank you Larry for knowing Danny Burstein which allowed us entrance backstage for a very nice ending to a very nice evening. What a great group of people are the HHWs. I'm very glad to say I know you all.

For those wanting pictures, I'm afraid you will be disappointed. There may be pictures from the Central Park tour (I wasn't there) but there were actually very few pictures taken last week and there were no pictures taken last night at the restaurant or at the theatre. Were there pictures taken at Joe Allen's?

Gotta get to work. DR Ginny will be here soon although she will be on the second floor and I'm on the third floor. We both have full days ahead. She has a conference and I'm busy with my regular work. She will also be here tomorrow for a continuation of the conference.

Later!

Great seeing guests to NYC Cilla, Ginny, Jon and Richard last night.  It was fun seeing Larry as always and Danny Burstein, and Maureen Silliman (who was in the Last starfighter readings with BK) asked Lenny Wolpe to join us, and he did.  We had a table for 8 with 9 people at it, so it was a little cozy, but lovely.

Edward Hibbert and Georgia Engel and their spit takes still makes me laugh and I've seen it three times!

I love the Toledo Surprise and Stumble Along (Beth Leval's Tony-Award winning number).

The costume changes for Miss Foster in Show Off (often called I Don't Want to Show Off) are great.

Good morning, all!  I got home last night from a great evening out.  The only sad news for me was that Danny's wife Rebecca Luker couldn't join us since she's in MARY POPPINS tech.  She did call Danny on his cellphone and I got to call her names briefly, to which she called me equally horrific ones.  I do love love love her!

When I got home, around 12:30, I checked the posts, commented on the state of my traveling jockey shorts, read a few chapters of Marni Nixon's new bio, which needed a good proofreader, and passed out.  I am going down to the office shortly, and I may see DRs Cillaliz and jhvw if they wend their way Village-wards.

Les "X-Men" Part Troisieme - Le Stand Finale.  Not as well scripted as the first two, but hey.

And for some reason, der Brucer decided to get the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

It is raining here in Rehoboth Beach, DE.

This is sad, because this is Greyhound Weekend.  Owners of Greyhounds come to town, filling up all the rooms in all the hotels, with their Greyhounds, and partay partay partay.

I like Greyhound owners, because so many of the dogs are rescues, and the owners have commodious hearts.

But, this weekend, if the rain continues, all the Greyhounds will have to wear raincoats!

Maybe they can have a beauty contest!

Happy B'day, JMK!

Although Gary Cooper has always been one of my favourite actors, I've never been a huge fan of HIGH NOON.  I think I agree with John Wayne and Howard Hawks who both hated the movie because they always felt that a professional wouldn't go running around asking help from amateurs.  Their response was RIO BRAVO where the Duke eschews the help of amateurs.

Thanks for all the wishes.

Still catching up, so:

Jose:  what cruise line are you on?  I just turned down a gig for a 6 month piano bar stint on a Caribbean cruiseline.  It would have been great aside from being away for so long--private quarters, no other duties (sometimes they make you do off-shore tours, etc., which can be a drag).

Re:  Grey's Anatomy.  One of the show's writers, Krista Vernoff, was a singing waitress on board a cruiseline where I was the featured artist and special material writer for almost 9 years.  Her sister, whose name I forget, has been in some Woody Allen movies.  Krista also wrote for Party of Five, IIRC.

BK: The Faculty was on Showtime HD last night.  We caught the last few minutes of it after The Colbert Report.  In another late Ask BK question--did you and David actually write a screenplay that was adapted by Kevin, or not?  If not, what exactly did you provide as the "story" authors--is it an outline or a complete through-written plot synopsis.

Jane:  the biggest "noticeable" home improvement is downstairs in the family room.  We put in built-in bookshelves to hold the massive DVD collection and also replaced what the electrician called our "bordello lights" with more modern sconces.

Yep, I think if the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences wanted to hang its head in shame over any year of nominations, 1952 would have to be it. Wonderful films produced that year, and they membership nominated IVANHOE?

How ironic on most Best Films of All-Time lists, the 1952 movie that seems to get mentioned the most nowadays is SINGIN' IN THE RAIN. THE QUIET MAN and HIGH NOON do get mentioned, too, but not in the same way as SINGIN'.

No one EVER mentions THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH except in derision.

Yes, and it's a shame, too.  It's a beautiful film.  It plays extremely well, even today.  It's probably Betty Hutton's most "restrained" performance (LOL).  Jimmy Stewart is very good in a role most actors today would NEVER consider.  There's a fair amount of DeMille Hokum...with a HUGE DOLLOP of DeMille's epic flair.

Another great film that gets derisive comments is "Around the World in 80 Days", a joyful, colorful romp.

All films have some miscast elements or other....Grace Kelly in "High Noon" (IMO) and Shirley MacLaine in "Around the World..."

As entertaining as "Singin' in the Rain" is, it is my opinion that it is HIGHLY OVERRATED.  I don't seem to get as much pleasure from it as many others do.  It's fun...it has wonderful moments....but I can go lo-o-o-o-o-n-g stretches without seeing it again, and then when I do watch it, I'm impatient for things to move along to my favorite scenes.

I think "The Wizard of Oz" is a good example of a perfect musical film...I never tire of it...never get impatient with it.

"The Band Wagon", too, pleases me much, MUCH more than does "Singin' in the Rain."

Members of the cast of the Broadway revival of "A Chorus Line."

In providing us with an archivally and anatomically correct reproduction of a landmark show, the creators of this revival neglected to restore its throbbing heart.

 Evil Dead: The Musical (http://theater2.nytimes.com/gst/theater/tdetails.html?id=1125016118630)
Quote
Off Broadway, New World Stages (formerly Dodger Stages)

PLOT DESCRIPTION
'Evil Dead: The Musical,' a "dis-arm-ingly" riotous musical comedy based on Sam Raimi's '80s cult-classic horror films, unearths the old familiar story: boy and his friends take a weekend getaway at abandoned cabin, boy expects to get lucky, boy unleashes ancient evil spirit, friends turn into Candarian Demons, boy fights until dawn to survive. As musical mayhem descends upon this sleepover in the woods, "camp" takes on a whole new meaning in uproarious numbers like 'All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons,' 'Look Who's Evil Now' and 'Do the Necronomicon.' Buzzing chainsaws and dancing demons add to the frenzy, slaying audiences with this tale of lust, love and dismemberment. The first two rows of the orchestra are the "Splatter Zone." Patrons in the "Splatter Zone" should be prepared to have a bloody good time...and dress accordingly. — TheaterSource

I'm up, I'm up - I don't seem to be able to sleep past eight o'clock these days.

JMK - We wrote an original screenplay for The Faculty back in 1990 or so.  Couldn't give it away until Scream came out - then it got optioned in two hours by Miramax/Dimension - Mr. Williamson was originally slated to rewrite and direct, but Rodriguez came on board and that was that.  He kept the structure of our script, and the two characters that resemble what we did were the principal and the Elijah Wood character (he used our female lead's name for Elijah - Casey, and the principal's name was the only other name he left alone).  So, the structure, much of the story (but not the particulars) were ours, but not one line of dialogue remains.  While I think our idea was great, I don't think our script was, and he did what he needed to do - however, there were a couple of sequences in ours that he should have kept and they would have made his film a bigger hit, at least from where I stand.

Actually, I *do* have one for you. I've been looking for a movie for a few years now called "Cry Onion". It stars Franco Nero, but the voice is dubbed by someone doing a Jimmy Stewart impersonation. It's a Spanish film...kind of a parody of spaghetti westerns...with onions!

Here's the imdb link:

I've read that Rio Bravo was the answer to High Noon - I love both films, actually.  High Noon just works for me as a FILM - I don't think about it too much - I'm just taken in by the tale and the acting and the direction and the music and the editing.

Good Afternoon!

Well...

It was raining when I left DC, but the plane took off pretty close to its scheduled departure time.  Alas, we had choppy skies pretty much the whole duration of the flight.  It didn't bother me too much, but, apparently, those toward the rear of the plane had quite the bumpy ride.  Consequently, the had to cancel the beverage for "safety reasons".  -Why can't they just say that they don't want to risk spilling Diet Coke and hot coffee on passengers?  ;)  In any case...

When we landed in Charlotte - a couple of minutes late - they announced an "unscheduled equipment change".  Hmm... Originally, I was just supposed to stay on the same plane, and then proceed on to Ft. Lauderdale from here.  Well...  By the time I reached my new departure gate, we were told that that flight was going to be delayed.  And since they were combining the passengers from two other flights on to that plane, that they were also overbooked.  And since "we" were on the second flight to come in...  In short, it's looking highly likely that I will get bumped off the flight which was supposed to take off at 1:25 2:25, and get put on the 3:55 down to Ft. Lauderdale.  An inconvenience, yes, but if I do end up getting bumped, I will get a free round-trip ticket and possibly some other "perks".  So... Not too bad a deal.  We shall see...

The LA TIMES (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-fi-belair6oct06,0,3490684.story?coll=la-home-headlines) describes it thus:
Quote
$75 Million Could Land You a Nice Chunk of Bel-Air

Even at $75 million, it doesn't come with a house, pool or anything else, for that matter.

But a group of Century City investment bankers are hoping that their 12.4-acre terraced hillside lot in Bel-Air will fetch that amount — even in a cooling real estate market.

The parcel, across from the Hotel Bel-Air and less than a mile north of Sunset Boulevard and UCLA, was assembled over nine years by flamboyant movie producer Steve Bing. He tore down homes on the land once owned by such show business luminaries as Barry Manilow, Red Buttons and Kim Novak.

The demographic for The Townhouse skews toward the "older" side, at least it did the last I heard.

You're right, JHWV does appear older than 23. What surprised me though was, he's

The way his picture was shot he looks to be less tall. Not that there's anything wrong with being tall (for those of you on the site who are taller than me, and that's most of you).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR JMK!

I hear that Jesus Camp is a must-see docu.

It was great to be back in Canada - haven't been to Ottawa in many years. At the reception I attended (see below), saw people I hadn't seen in decades. Was interviewed - in Hungarian - for a Hungarian TV show. That was fun! Went to a wonderful concert at the National Arts Center following the reception. Yuja Wang, a young Chinese pianist (19 years old!), played Profofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto and she was superb. What a thrill to see someone like this at the beginning of her career.

As for the reception, below is a description from a news release about it. I was one of "the 50." Needless to say, it was a great honor. The portraits were incredible. My favorite was Elvis Stojko - totally nude. Before some of you book flights to Ottawa - nothing that shouldn't be seen at the National Arts Center is seen. My portrait turned out well. The credit goes to the photographer, who is a master of his craft. You can see some of his other work at www.vtonyhauser.com

“The National Arts Centre is honoured to have commissioned a series of 50 portraits by renowned photographer V. Tony Hauser in celebration of the exceptional contributions made by Hungarian-Canadians to Canadian culture and society since the 1956 Revolution. The portrait sitters represent some of the many thousands of Hungarians who came to Canada in difficult circumstances to start new lives, but who thrived -- and whose contributions became an important part of this country’s cultural heritage,” said NAC President and CEO Peter Herrndorf. “We are proud and honoured to be celebrating their innovation and creativity.” The exhibition, entitled NEW LIVES, will be displayed in the foyer and mezzanine of the NAC’s Southam Hall from October 5 to 22, 2006. A private unveiling of the exhibit takes place on October 4, 2006 in the presence of many of the portrait sitters."

And that's it from here. It's astonishing how even being away just two days can leave you with so much catching up!

Well, autumn did pop in to greet us this afternoon.

Right around the time I was running my errands, the wind picked up, the sun went behind clouds, and all of a sudden, the temps started dropping. It's now nice and cool and with low humidity, it FEELS like fall.

Thrilling.

Our local film critic gave JESUS CAMP three stars out of four. His sad reflection on the organization was that nowhere during the film's running time was their ever any mention of loving one's fellow man or reaching out a hand to comfort those in need.

Seems like the folks behind the camp were strictly interested in changing others to meet their mold of what "Christians" ought to be, no matter what it took to make the change.

Waiting on the mail to see if my DVDs would arrive (they didn't), I popped in a GREY'S ANATOMY disc from the Season 2 boxed set and was instantly swept back into the plot of last season where George was saved by a pigeon when a man fell five stories and landed almost on top of him.

FInsing that episode and my lunch, I then began clearing the DVR of last night's shows. I began with SMALLVILLE, out introduction to the Green Arrow, and Clark gaining Super Breath.

I have to say that the Dolby Digital sound used to simulate his first deliberate use of this super power was one of the more awesome sound effects I've heard on network TV in quite some time.

Next came a charming and lovely MY NAME IS EARL as Earl and Randy spend the episode in a village of circus freaks and learn to value them as people and not as oddities.

Joy, on the other hand, struggled with her court-appointed lawyer played by Marlee Matlin. In her usual graceless way, Joy couldn't trust being represented by someone even slightly different from her.

A funny and poignant episode.

THE OFFICE was back on form, too, in a funny outing with Dwight going behind Michael's back to win the manager's position in the office. Michael's sense of betrayal and then his attempt to trap Dwight into a confession was very funny.

Meanwhile the ever-adorable Jim in Stanford is dutifully playing CALL TO DUTY with his officemates.

No wonder Duynder-Mifflin is losing customers to Staples.

Instead, I put in the laserdisc of 101 DALMATIANS and watched the first side of it. ENjoyable as always even though I had the TV crop it to 1.78:1. Even though the laserdisc cover says the original ratio was 1.33:1, the film plays perfectly in the other ratio. I'm not convinced that it was shown at 1.33:1.

Wonder when Disney gives it the Platinum treatment next year if it will still package it at 1.33:1.

Hello all. Taking a breather from all the action of NYC. Actually, Cillaliz is sleeping in the bed next to me. Good time to pop in some bjork and just relax. Going to see Wicked toinght, should be fun.

I had the best time with all the HHW people last night. You are all so nice! Getting to go out with some of the cast of Drowsy Chaperone and stand on a broadway stage is truely unforgettable. Much thanks to those who made it possible. You guys are all just so great.

Not sure if I'll be going to any of "those" places tonight. After a wonderful walking tour with DR Jose yesterday my legs are pretty sore, and a night in isn't a bad thing necessarily. But who knows, the mood may strike and I might go. Would be alot more fun if I had someone to go with though. I don't really want to take Cillaliz out to one of those.

Anyway, I think I'll take a cue from cilla and nap while we have the time. Thanks to all you HHW people who have made this trip so memorable for me. It's been truely amazing. I love the city, I'm so sad I have to go back to Missouri. Ah well, I still have 2 more days here so we won't think about that. Well, hope you all have a good day and evening!

The demographic for The Townhouse skews toward the "older" side, at least it did the last I heard.

You're right, JHWV does appear older than 23. What surprised me though was, he's

TALL

The way his picture was shot he looks to be less tall. Not that there's anything wrong with being tall (for those of you on the site who are taller than me, and that's most of you).

Well....?  Does he have big feet, too?

I hear that Jesus Camp is a must-see docu.

I am actually familiar with the camp. The Fargo Theatre recently premiered it. Interesting in the aspect that the camp was creating and nurturing Christian warriors. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against the faith but the fanaticism and fundamentalism is what concerns me.

I have been wary commenting on it for I do not want to offend anyone's religious sensibilities.  I went with DF Jon, who is a Communications professor and he specailizes in organized communication and rhetoric.  He wanted to see it.

I happened to pick up the new Little Mermaid DVD today.  Reading the rather idiotic and completely anal review on a certain DVD site, and the sheep following said "reviewer" in agreement, I will tell you that doing a direct comparison with the previous release, the new DVD is just fine - a nice, colorful, anamorphic transfer with none of the softness they're complaining about other than what was intended by the filmmakers.  And while it's regretful that Disney didn't include the original mix, the new one is also just fine (the older was a bit smoother to my ears).  If you read this guy's "review" and see how he goes on about the size of his screen and the screen lengths he sits away from it and all this crap, you just scratch your head and wonder how people like that have devolved into these pedantic armchair know-it-alls - amateurs who, prior to DVD, knew nothing about anything, and people who were probably four when The Little Mermaid originally came out.   Worse, of course, are the sheep who immediately say "Curse Disney, I'm not buying this!"

Well, don't buy it, nitwits.

I was reading in the Journal of Popular Culture last night about a tv show called Fay. I read it was quite controversial back in the 1970s.

Particularly it's once black-listed, award nominated star - Lee Grant.

 Wikipedia  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Grant) reports:
Quote
Grant made her film debut in the movie version of Detective Story and received her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination, and won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Called before the House Un-American Activities Committee to testify against her husband, the playwright Arnold Manoff, the father of her only child, her daughter, actress Dinah Manoff, Grant refused to testify and was ultimately blacklisted. She continued to work in theater and resumed her film career in the early 1960s, and also appeared in the television series Peyton Place, for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Drama.

She received Academy Award nominations for The Landlord (1970), and Voyage of the Damned (1977). She won an Oscar for Shampoo (1975). She has also directed several documentary films, including Down and Out in America (1986) which won the Academy Award for Documentary Feature. In recent years she has directed a series of Intimate Portrait episodes (for Lifetime Television) that celebrate a diverse range of accomplished women.

She appeared as a cunning lawyer/murderess on an episode of Columbo. She also had her own sitcom, a series entitled Fay (1975), but it was not successful. Grant was vocal in assigning blame for the failure of the series, which was about the travails of a mature, sexually active woman, which may have turned off some viewers.

Grant also guest starred on Empty Nest, a TV series in which her daughter Dinah Manoff was a regular.

Her other film roles include:

In the Heat of the Night (1967)
Valley of the Dolls (1967)
The Landlord (1970)
Plaza Suite (1971)
Portnoy's Complaint (1972)
Airport '77 (1977)
Damien: Omen II (1978)
When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder? (1979)
Teachers (1984)
Defending Your Life (1992)
Mulholland Drive (2001)

Gee - a documentarian link!

Indeed, it was he:

The Guardian's' Unwitting Sex Symbol
(Sunday, June 30 10:00 PM)
By Jacqueline Cutler
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - In the restaurant at Manhattan's Four Seasons Hotel, where an iced tea costs as much as lunch in most places, the well-heeled patrons chat quietly. In the back of the room, a man who looks rather out of place slumps into a banquette.
Simon Baker, star of "The Guardian" that airs Tuesdays on CBS (9 p.m. ET), wears a faded black shirt, striped jeans and work boots. He drinks water by the carafe, and mostly goes unnoticed. However, as he makes frequent trips to the restroom, the mirrored walls reflect the stir he creates among the female patrons as he unassumingly walks by.

In an industry where being beautiful pretty much is a job requirement, the 32-year-old Baker is stunning. As good as he looks on TV, he looks even better in person, with sun-streaked blond hair and aqua-blue eyes. "I'm on f***ing holiday, baby," he says in reference to his reddish beard.

Baker is on hiatus from playing Nick Fallin, the slick, clean-shaven corporate lawyer whose drug conviction landed him 1,500 hours of community service as a child advocate in lieu of jail time.

Earlier this year, Baker raised some eyebrows when he revealed that he doesn't use deodorant in a profile in People magazine, which included him in its issue showcasing the 50 most beautiful people in the world. His reasoning is that drinking enough water flushes out impurities, making toiletries unnecessary. Just after the issue hit the stands, Baker, who admits to being shy, appeared on ABC's "The View." The hostesses of the daytime TV series, who are anything but shy, sniffed his armpits.

"That was charming," Baker says in a tone that leaves no doubt he was horrified.

I thought the same thing about people refusing to buy THE LITTLE MERMAID on the say-so of any reviewer. I'd buy it and judge for myself. If I was displeased, I'd take it back and get a refund or a trade.

As I mentioned yesterday, I wasn't very impressed with the mix on the laserdisc. It was fine but to my untrained ears, lacking in dynamics and intricate surround. I know sound mixes weren't as sophisticated then as they can be today.

I'll still watch and listen for myself before I make up my mind about anything.

I watched ABC's rebroadcast of last night's GREY'S ANATOMY. There was no problem with the sound, and I enjoyed the show much more in high definition.

Finished the recordings from last night by watching SUPERNATURAL, this episode a creepy one involving a killer clown.

Actually, it was a raksasha, the same demon that Kolchak faced in the greatest of his thriller episodes "Horror in the Heights." Really enjoyed this episode, much more than last week's actually.

The mother-daughter demon hunters that I read this summer were going to be added to the show made their first appearance in this week's episode.

Ended the evening with LAW & ORDER with Nora Dunn accused of tampering with wiring and a gas line causing an explosion which killed an eight year old girl.

Very surprising conlcusion to this one, a neat twist on the usual deal making.

What does Simon Baker have to do with SMITH?  I thought that it starred Ray Liotta.

 SMITH (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/smith/bios/simon.shtml) co-stars Simon Baker

The Numb3rs episode tonight had, at the end, the sound of Rufus Wainwright singing his Hallelujah - used in Shrek - and in at leact 2 other network shows this season. Maybe he can buy that $75 million lot in Bel Air.

Can I play my Etude for four hands, now?
Yes! And I play piano (badly) so I will provide 2! Can we do Schubert? There's some great 4 hand pieces.

After meeting with my accountant, I think it will be awhile before I order any more videos, "Cry Onion" being the exception!

Thanks, Der Brucer!!!!

Speaking of Yale, a little Yale humor:

While the brokers were busily calling potential customers to drum up business, the president of the firm stopped to eavesdrop on a new employee. He listened as the young man talked eight consecutive contacts into moving their stock portfolios to him.
The boss approached the young man and said, "I've been listening in, and I must say I'm impressed with your ability. Where did you learn so much about talking to investors?"
"Yale, sir," the young man answered.
Impressed, the boss said, "Oh, that's fine, just fine.  And what's your name?"
"Yim Yackson," he replied.

Good Evening!

Back from my meeting - a.k.a. cruise briefing.  Alas, it looks like I'll be working more than five hours, but not that much more.  ;)  However, since I was 'given' two full days off on the boat, I have been enlisted to help with the group check-in tomorrow morning.  Starting at 7:00am.  UGH!  But, then I'll be done at 10:30am, and that will be the end of my work day.  I suspect I'll be taking a nap in my stateroom before the boat pushes away at 5:00.

Back from dinner.  The head of the cruise tour group company - Cruise Everything - took all of us to dinner at Bravo, an Italian restaurant.  Many drinks were consumed.  Many baskets of garlic bread were devoured.  And plates of pasta, veal, chicken and eggplant were practically licked clean by all of us at the table.  -Oh, yes, there was also dessert!  And, best of all, the boss pick up the tab!  :)

And now...

And yes, "Therapy" is on 52nd.  And "Vlada" is on 51st, I think, right next to Sortie - which is more of a "mixed interest" establishment.

I did something interesting tonight: I attended an owl release. Two owl eggs had been discovered in June in a bale of hay and were turned over to the local wildlife rehab unit. The eggs were given to a pair of barn owl foster parents, who hatched the owlings and raised them. Then tonight, the young owls were released into the desert by the light of the full moon.

Odd that the Townhouse evolved that way.  When it first opened, it was a very diverse group age-wise.

Re Simon Baker without his shirt - Isn't Simon Baker the fellow who revealed on The View a while back that he doesn't believe in wearing deodorant?

I'd read that Matthew McConaughey has also admitted to not using it.
