What sad news about Jackie Cooper! When I was a kid, I loved him and the series THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE!

I'm still awake, which bodes well. I got the new Dick van Dyke biography in today's mail and I'm reading that.

I'm trying to skip lunch saving up for the beer dinner tonight:

Artisanal Cheeses & Meats

Crab Gazpacho
lump crab, local tomatoes, garlic, onion, sherry

Braised Duck Tacos
crumbled goat cheese, habanero-cherry BBQ sauce, homemade blue corn tortilla, micro cilantro

Roasted Free Range Airline Chicken Breast
pinto beans & rice, roasted pablano mole

Chocolate Corn Pones
warm mexican chocolate sauce, marshmallow whipped cream

All of which will be paired with approipriate craft beers.

der Brucer

Be sure to let me know if the Ashland beer is on the menu again.

Same here.

He had a very good career as a producer-director, too.

Back from a fun sound check - I think we'll have a nice attendance tonight, at least I hope so after the alarming report of yesterday - and speaking of alarming report, I came home to an e-mail asking if I could confirm that former dear reader William E. Lurie had died in 2010.  Certainly he hasn't been to the site in ages - can someone search and see when his last post was?  I asked the guy to let me know if he's heard or hears anything concrete.  He did order Promises, Promises back in June of 2010 so he was certainly alive then.

George beat me to it! I don't understand why you couldn't check member status and his last post, BK. Are you too excited about tonight? Break a leg!

His last post was Sept 20, 2008.  He hasn't posted on the Cast Recording List in ages, but his posts there were usually misguided, misinformed, and nearly always negative. I found him an unpleasant man.

I've sent Max Preeo an inquiry. Perhaps castrecl has been alerted to the situation.

He occasionally in the past would log on and read but not post anything. Perhaps if he's lurking, he'll see my comments and log on to yell at me.

I just received this from Max Preeo:

A few months ago, I got a castrecl administrator message that William Lurie's subscription had been cancelled.  I emailed his address to ask why and got a message from his brother that he had passed away.

I don't. I didn't like him. He came to THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X at NYMF with his partner and stayed aloof from the HHW folk who were there, as I recall. DR Ben pointed him out to me.

He was a thoroughly unpleasant man on the Cast Recording List, spreading negativity, misguidedly blaming organizations and people about matters in which he knew nothing, from the Cole Porter Trust's and Rodgers & Hammerstein's involvement in productions to other matters, and very often misinformed: his epic post was to bitch about the new movie NEW MOON; he had fears about the 1928 Sigmund Romberg operetta getting mangled in a remake: the movie he was complaining about was the vampire film based on the "Twilight"(?) series. He appeared clueless but emphatically right.

DR Jose, in my rush to get out this morning, I forgot to address your last round of BOYS FROM SYRACUSE questions. The published vocal score and the rental materials are based on the 1968(?) London production of the 1964 Off-Broadway revival. There were substantial changes made to the libretto and the music, and this versions been the one leased for the last 30 years.

I know that the R&H Theatre Library would like to finish the 1938 restoration and make it available. Right now it's only rentable in special circumstances. I think they've got an uncorrected photocopy of the lost piano-conductor score that was made for Encores! They'd have to copy a new score from scratch. Perhaps when they finish the restoration of TOO MANY GIRLS . . .

I gave in.

I turned on the AC. It is 86 degrees in the house.

It is set for 150 days.

150 is the max, I believe. We'll have to set it for another 25 after that, probably.

Ron, I had chronic problems like you're suffering until my doctor put me on one of the "famous" medicines for reduction of this particular gland.  Haven't had an "attack" since.

That post reminds me of a dinner party Betsy and I went to where the entire conversation was about aches and pains and various bodily functions, at which point one guy said, "Oy, this really is a dinner with nothing but over 50 Jews."  :)

When the movie first came out in the 70s, I thought the name of the film was THE TAKING OF PHLEGM 123.  I thought it was one of the strangest titles ever.

I'm happy the concert was a big hit. Was it sold out?

There may have been a very few stray single seats here and there, but I'd call it a sell out.
