I'm home from work now.   The Halloween party has probably begun; after my tables were turned, bussed and whatevered, I helped move them all out onto the deck so that the deejay could set up and the party could begin.  Believe me, if it weren't for this gosh-darned sinus/respiratory infection I would have liked to have stayed for the party.  As it was, I had a great night of waiting tables and providing help to new employees.
Now I think I shall watch a movie or veg out in front of the tube.
Or, maybe I'll just surf around and end up back here.

And former DR PANNI is one of the producers of the project, too.

It is 7:25, but really 6:25, so I can go to bed and read for an hour.

G'night!

One week to the day, DR Jane.  I can still make it to work, though.  I haven't been on the antibiotics for a week yet though. . .

Good Evening!

I'm back at my apartment after having quite a nice day out and about in New York City.

I did indeed make it down to MoMA to check out Joan Miró: Painting and Anti-Painting 1927–1937.  However, since I had yet to have breakfast, brunch or lunch, I decided to grab a bite to eat at Cafe 2 before heading into the galleries.

I had a delightful trio of bruschetta - prosciutto, spicy broccoli raab and tuna... And some chocolate gelato too.  ;)

Then it was up to the sixth floor to check out the new exhibit...

Well... The works of Miró have always sort of puzzled me.  Yes, I know that he purposely deconstructed and abstracted his "figures", but after reading various writings and critiques, a lot of his "radicalism" just seemed a bit put on, as if he was showing off in a sense.  Well... I'm still not exactly sure if he was truly trying to be that radical.

The exhibition covers a decades' worth of paintings, collages and "objects", and it does offer a glimpse into his process and progress throughout the course of that decade.  I was actually caught off guard at just how all-encompassing and large - twelve mini-galleries! - the exhibit was, and I'll have to make a return visit or two to take it all in and properly digest it.

The one image - well title - that sticks with me is: "Man and Woman in Front of a Pile of Excrement". ;)

Then it was off to meet my brother, Jay, and his girlfriend, Maria, over at their hotel.  Once we met up in the lobby, we then cabbed it over to the East Side to meet up with our friend Steve and his wife, and their seven-week(!) old baby girl, Grace.  Sooo cute.

*And I learned that Maria moved to San Diego and moved in with my brother a few months ago.  When did that happen?!?!?!  I thought she was still living in Philly.  However, that explained why they both flew in from San Diego this week.  Duh!

And i had a Philly Cheese Steak for dinner tonight at the Theater Row Diner.  It was very empty at 6:15 but really filled up by about 7.

Since Maria had to do some carbo-loading for her race tomorrow, we cabbed back over to the Upper West Side, and had a nice meal at Al Dente.  As we were eating, we started noticing more marathoners coming into the restaurant...  I don't think I've seen more requests for "More bread, please" before. ;)

Before they headed back to their hotel, we headed up to Cafe Lalo so that Maria could pick out a few things for her post-marathon Treat. :)

*Oh, and our cab ride over to the West Side happened to coincide with the fireworks in Central Park tonight (for the marathon).  Beautiful!

Matt Cavenaugh, Broadway's new "Tony" in the West Side Story revival

Now I would like to see that revival.

Well, Matt is still buff, but he's not that buff anymore.  Although, who knows what else Arthur Laurents is changing for this revival.  ;)

Back from a jaunt to the post office to mail packages to DRs JRand and Elmore, and a stop for lunch at India Star and next door to look at the Bollywood DVDs and CDs. Only bought a few. And then chatted with the owner and a couple of Indian customers about how surpised they were that I liked Indian movies.

The owner told them that I have more movies then he does in his whole store.

Well... So much for saving up for your next trip to NYC.

I guess this was a publicity photo for URBAN COWBOY when he was in that.

He played a gay young person on ONE LIFE TO LIVE for awhile. Was sorry to see that storyline end.

I spent the first part of my evening watching the rest of ROMAN HOLIDAY. That ending when the princess finally realizes who her two companions actually are and then gets their assurance they're going to keep mum about it always leaves me with teary eyes and a lump in my throat. One of the great go-nowhere love stories.

Paramount ported the bonuses from the 2002 release of ROMAN HOLIDAY (except that Edith Head featurette which was on the SUNSET BLVD. set) and added a bunch more, all of which were fun and informative. Got a quick tour of Paramount's Costume Department which was only 5 1/2 minutes long and could have gone on for much, much longer showing off costumes from some of their pictures.

And I concluded my evening watching the last hour and 15 minutes of LIVE AND LET DIE on Blu-ray. As I said before, the movie looks and sounds smashing on Blu-ray, but that's one Roger Moore/Bond film I liked more when I saw originally it than I do now.

The next film I have in the review queue is SABRINA, but I may take tomorrow to watch the next Criterion movie Fanfan la Tulipe. It doesn't come out until the 18th of the month, but watching it will exercise a different set of movie-watching muscles than rewatching SABRINA which I've seen a dozen times or more. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Ben Affleck on SNL - wow, just wow!

Although, four skits in so far, and all of them should have been cut down by a few minutes each.  I could not believe how that Keith Olbermann sketch went on and on and on..

Just amazed by Affleck's immersion in character, though.
