Well, you've read the notes, you've fiddled whilst the notes burned and vice-versa and also versa-vice, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're on the roof right now, fiddling away.
-
And the word of the day is: SALACIOUS!
-
Just did a little update for part two of the notes, so if you've checked them out already, recheck them.

Happy Birthday to bk's Darling Daughter.... I hope you have a great day!!!

A Very Happy Birthday to BK's DD JB!!

...Happy Birthday bk's Darling Daughter.
Happy Birthday To You!
:)
-
Good Morning!
:)
Well... I'm off to orchestra rehearsal...
:)
*Oh, a portion of tomorrow's rehearsal will be filmed for Broadway.com, so you might be able to catch/hear me in action sometime late tomorrow afternoon/early evening.
:)
Laters...

Happy Birthday to JB!!
Thank you for the vibes for my DH. He is not complaining nearly as much as I will be when my turn comes!

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]! ! ! ! ! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DD JB ! ! ! ! ![/move]

The DP returned from the east coast the other evening and brought me two tubs of "Fluff".... what fabulous stuff.
DR Jose - I'm not technolgically advanced to understand the foot pedal system, we're basically still in the stone ages when it comes to synth's. We make these Keyboard books work the best we can. I use a Boss "Dr. Synth" for all my synth needs, it's nice because it has buttons to go from sound bank to sound bank, and it's all general midi. I'm using a Roland XP-10 (I think) for other things that I can not make the switches for while using the Dr Synth. It's always a challenge to try and figure out what the orchestrator wants in terms of sounds, knowing that each synth is programmed for a specific show and then the patch is given a name. My favorite for "Aida" has been 'Tribal Rumble Bass" - that was fun to try and figure out!
-
Happy B-day to bk's DD. :)
-
DR MATTHEW where are you playing the John-Rice AIDA? I really liked the show when it came through Indy on tour a couple of years ago.
-
Happiest of birthdays to Mr BK's DD!!
Yes, DR RODZINSKI - this year's March 20 birthday-ers will probably have much activity in their lives - with the emphasis on change and luck.
-
TOD:
Mr Astaire: Pick Yourself Up danced and sung with Miss Ginger Rogers
Miss Garland: The Man That Got Away and the "concert" sequences in I'LL GO ON SINGING
Mr Kelly: 0

Happy birthday to BK's darling daughter!!!
-
Thursday greetings! Today is the first day of my five and a half days off - taking it slowly this morning.
Birthday wishes to BK's Darling Daughter!
Official-Broadway-pit-musician vibes to our very own DR Jose! How will we groupies visit you in the "pit" if you're on the 7th floor?
-
Happy birthday wishes to JB. Perhaps she will drop in today since she is the darling daughter of the owner of this here site!
-
I would rank The Man That Got Away as one of my favorite Garland performances. Also Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas from Meet Me in Saint Louis.
Mr. Astaire's Shine on Your Shoes from The Bandwagon always makes me smile.
I do like Good Morning and Moses Supposes from Singing in the Rain.
I'll think of others during the day.
-
Good morning, all! I overslept, and I'm about to begin work on another report for the Toyland preface. It's a revision, and I have my notes, but it will still consume most of my day. Luckily the mind is sharp, no pencils needed, and I'm rarin' to start.
DRs Cillaliz and Ginny, my dear friend BK and I are not in agreement about JUNEBUG, but I enjoyed the performances and the family dynamic. My co-godparent of Charlotte Raines is Celia Weston, who plays the mother, and I think she's always fun to watch. There's also a wonderful musical moment from the leading man and some church members.
TOD:
Judy Garland: Under the Bamboo Tree
Fred Astaire: Never Gonna Dance
Gene Kelly: the number with the cartoon character
Sorry, DR MBarnum, I find Mr Kelly cold. I'd bet he was great in PAL JOEY.
-
TOD - Judy Garland's "On the Atcheson, Topeka, and the Santa Fe," from The Harvey Girls. And all of Easter Parade, which covers both JG and FA.
-
Good Morning!!
Happiest of birthdays

I'm still in shock! How could I have forgotten "The Man That Got Away"?
I change my vote!

Hmmmm tried thinking of the TOD and all I can think of is Donald O'Connor's "Make 'Em Laugh" from Singing In the Rain
Whichis odd as I love Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly... oh! Fred Astaire in the one where he dances on the walls and the ceiling... from Royal Wedding oh dang what's the name of it.......
As for Gene Kelly, the one with the mouse was good , but also the ballet thing around the fountain from an American In Paris and the Gotta Dance routine from New York, New York..... oh I don't know which is my favorite... and the Singing In the Rain routine itself....
I differ with you on Gene Kelly, elmore I found he left me .....well, the opposite of cold ;)
-
DR MATTHEW where are you playing the John-Rice AIDA? I really liked the show when it came through Indy on tour a couple of years ago.
Serra High School in San Mateo, CA. The students are doing a great job, on stage and in the pit. It's not an easy show, vocally, but the leads are doing a great job.
-
TOD:
Judy Garland: GET HAPPY from Summer Stock
Gene Kelly: Everything!!
Fred Astair: The Piccolino number from TOP HAT and the big number with Cyd Charisse in SILK STOCKINGS-Paris Loves Lovers?
-
DR DakotaCelt, the second half of the Tony Dow interview went great! He is a really nice, down to earth guy and I enjoyed talking to him, and he appreciated having an opportunity to talk about his work as a director.
-
Good morning!
The temperature descent has begun. It was cold last night and today doesn't promise much in the way of highs: high 50s. It's going to be even lower in the upcoming days. Still, it's very pleasant despite the letdown in temperatures. Mother Nature gets us all primed for spring, and then she snatches it away.
-
Yes, I can understand Agatha Christie's dissatisfaction with Rutherford's Miss Marple since she's nothing at all like she was written, but those films all have such entertainment value that I find it's easily forgiven. Besides, we've had definitive interpretations of the character since then, so these can be enjoyed for what they are.
Imagine Dame Agatha's distress to have Miss Marple played by Margaret Rutherford and Hercule Poirot by Tony Randall all within a couple of years of each other. No wonder she was so opposed to having her terrific books filmed.
-
All three of those musical performers left so many memorable moments in their film musicals.
My top pick for Judy is also "Get Happy" from SUMMER STOCK. But "Happy Harvest" from the same film is such a great tune, and "The Portland Fancy" that she dances with Gene in that film is superb. Can't wait to get this musical on DVD in that upcoming musical box from Warners.
-
For Gene, I'd have to pick "The Pirate Ballet" from THE PIRATE. I think it's the sexiest production number he ever filmed.
"I Like Myself" from IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER is also memorable for me.
-
Serra High School in San Mateo, CA. The students are doing a great job, on stage and in the pit. It's not an easy show, vocally, but the leads are doing a great job.
Thanks! ;D
Be sure to post a link if they put a photo album online!

Page Two Scurrying Dance!!!
-
"I Like Myself" is a perfect number for Gene Kelly to do....in fact almost every number he does in the movies could have that as part of the title (in parens)....."Singin' In the Rain (I Like Myself)"..."Moses Supposes (I Like Myself)"and of course the "Alter Ego Ballet (I Like Myself - Twice)."
-

Well, I admit he did seem very self satisfied....but I still like the way he filled out his trousers danced ;)
-
For Fred, there are so, so many solos and dances with partners.
I'd say "Sunday Jumps" from ROYAL WEDDING (where he dances with the hat rack and some gym equipment) is probably his wittiest dance.
I also like "Seeing's Believing" from THE BELLE OF NEW YORK and "Bojangles of Harlem" from SWING TIME.
With partners, well, where to start? "This Heart of Mine" from ZIEGFELD FOLLIES, "Dancing in the Dark" from THE BAND WAGON, "Let's Face the Music and Dance" from FOLLOW THE FLEET, and, for a comic number, "How Could You Believe Me" from ROYAL WEDDING.
-
If I could dance as well as Gene Kelly, I'd be self-satified, too.
-
Oh, DR Vixmom, that Astraire dance on the walls and ceiling is "You're All the World to Me" from ROYAL WEDDING.
-
LOL! JRand55!
-
LOL! But in agreement, DR Vixmom! ;D
-
So did anyone rush out to buy a Gor Mkhitarian CD?
Do I not have any influence on your people?
I really do think that Armenian pop music is the next new big fad!
-
I forgot Get Happy. Great number and Judy looks wonderful.
-
Where'd I leave my hat?
-
Partner dances for Kelly:
I mentioned him and Garland in "The Portland Fancy." Of course, Leslie Caron in "An American in Paris ballet." With Vera-Ellen in "Main Street from ON THE TOWN and "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" in WORDS AND MUSIC. Naturally the dance with Astaire in ZIEGFELD FOLLIES ("The Babbit and the Bromide") and with O'Connor ("Moses Supposes").
-
Do I not have any influence on your people?
we put on clothes on yesterday didn't we?
-
Oh dang I put us in wide screen let me see if I can fix that
-
Now its too small... dang and dang
-
Ok entirely different dance now....
-
I'm up, I'm up. Interesting trivia note - playing a couple of scenes with Miss Rutherford in Murder She Said is Miss Joan Hickson, who would, of course, go on to play Miss Marple in many, many TV films from the UK.
-
I've always regretted that Judy couldn't complete ROYAL WEDDING. I thought she and Peter Lawford made such an attractive couple in EASTER PARADE, and they would actually have gotten to end up together in ROYAL WEDDING! I also would have loved to have heard her sing those Burton Lane songs in the film. Thankfully, she did sing "Too Late Now" on her television series, but I'll bet she would have been hilarious as the gun moll in "How Could You Believe Me" and doing the pratfalls in "Open Your Eyes" as the luxury liner tosses and pitches while they're dancing.
A real loss.
-
Oh, my, I totally forgot my favorite Kelly duet: "The Heather on the Hill" with Miss Cyd Charisse, one of the loveliest romantic dances ever filmed!
-
Oh, DR Vixmom, that Astraire dance on the walls and ceiling is "You're All the World to Me" from ROYAL WEDDING.

Get Happy!!!

HUH? Dept.
Lodi, Calif. (March 16) - When a dump truck backed into Curtis Gokey's car, he decided to sue the city for damages. Only thing is, he was the one driving the dump truck. But that minor detail didn't stop Gokey, a Lodi city employee, from filing a $3,600 claim for the December accident, even after admitting the crash was his fault.
After the city denied that claim because Gokey was, in essence, suing himself, he and his wife, Rhonda, decided to file a new claim under her name.
City Attorney Steve Schwabauer said this one also lacks merit because Rhonda Gokey can't sue her own husband.
"You can sue your spouse for divorce, but you can't sue your spouse for negligence," Schwabauer said. "They're a married couple under California law. They're one entity. It's damage to community property."
But Rhonda Gokey insisted she has "the right to sue the city because a city's vehicle damaged my private vehicle."
In fact, her claim, currently pending at Lodi City Hall, is for an even larger amount -- $4,800.
"I'm not as nice as my husband is," she said.

Did he discuss his work with the Doctor Who movie?

Good day one and all....
-
from Today's notes:
In fact, two of the four Rutherford films are based on Hercule Poirot novels. Go know. Murder She Wrote is a little less humorous than the subsequent films –
Gotcha!

Were you, by any chance, born in an ice house?

I'm up.
Slept well.
Went to bed early.
Had to tape "Invasion."
-
Today is cloudy and cold.
Rain imminent.
-
from Today's Note:
It’s an odd little film, but it’s short and I liked it very much – it and Good Night, and Goodbye are now my favorite films of last year (of course, I haven’t seen many others).
Gotcha! (2)

I'll say it again:
Scratch a friend, find a foe!

You'll really enjoy INVASION, DR Ron. Tension from the get-go that doesn't let up for the entire episode.

Off to get cleaned up. I'm meeting friends for lunch and need to get ready.
WBBL. (wibble-wobble for DR Ron Pulliam).

Doesn't anybody have cropping/scaling capabilities?

Oh, and Happy Birthday to bk's darling daughter. Wish she'd pop in occasionally just to say hello.

I certainly cropped and scaled down that Judy pic. It was huge.

Yes, my greetings also go out to Jennfer, daughter of BK.
Happy Birthday, Jennifer!

I'll say it again:

well if you keep going around scratching[/i] people what do you expect!!!
-
Doesn't anybody have cropping/scaling capabilities?
not at the office
-
MBarnum did you get to the bottom of the autographed picture dilemma for DR Jane's friend?
LOL! I did tell Mr. Dow about that. He was actually disappointed to hear that that had occurred as he and his mom were always very good about setting time aside to respond to fan mail and sign autographs...although at certain points in his career he got a thousand letters a week or more...but his mom was very concientious about it all, and therefore so was he. He told me that likely the letter never got to him and probably went to the producers or someone at the studio.

Posting oversized photos throws things way off kilter on some PCs.

Oops (spoo, spelled backwards), two titles wrong in one notes. Skammen. I shall now be on my way to LACC, then Jane, then I shall return.
-
TOD:
I like "The Man Who Got Away" in A STAR IS BORN, but I think Judy tops herself in her rendition in that Judy/Dean Martin/Frank Sinatra TV Special. She's framed in a rather unflattering, close-up and silhouetted profile, but her performance is so incredibly raw and exposed that I prefer it over the movie number (which is still outstanding, in any case.)
-
Doesn't anybody have cropping/scaling capabilities?
I do, but I use an ointment for that.

have a wonderful, relaxing five day weekend Ginny!!
Relaxing? Maybe a little...this evening and tomorrow morning I'm working at a fundraiser/used book sale at the mall (that's what the cookies are for), Saturday afternoon I have to move our DS home from college (he starts his first co-op in a week), and Sunday he and I will be throwing a taco party for my mom, my aunt, her 2 sons and grandson, and my niece who is delivering a golf cart to my mom. Mom is giving her car to our son in exchange for a 4-passenger, loaded golf cart in which to toodle around her retirement community.

In my spare time, I'll do a Page 4 dance!

I could eat a cookie...!
Eating a Heathbar muffin!! Very tasty!!
I am out of town at my parents, washing clothes and tormenting the rellies....
And even being nice and working on my mothers genealogy line and taking a stab at the infamous letter from NYC....
It has left many mysteries....

TOD:
Gene Kelly: Everything!!
I totally agree. He wasn't a great actor, but he was a BRILLIANT dancer. His work is amazing and powerful and timeless. He and Astaire are the two best dancers ever captured on film.
"Slaughter on 10th Avenue" is mesmerizing. Imagine what audiences must have experienced/felt seeing something that bold and inventive set to a wildly popular piece of music when they saw "Words and Music."
"The Pirate Ballet" is a masterpiece of dance, energy, color, pyrotechnics and sheer audacity.
"An American in Paris Ballet" -- a true artist at the peak of his craft creating something timeless and beautiful -- has never been equalled.
"The Broadway Ballet" -- fun. clever, brilliant with a capital "B"...totally joyous and perfectly integrated into the film.
"I Like Myself" -- incredibly inventive and fun.
Gene Kelly is one of the major lights of musical cinema.
-
I know it not question day but I am hoping a New York City Hainsie/Kimlet can answer my question...
First off a little back ground....
I know Canon street was historically near what was once known as Hell's Kitchen and near Five Points.
However I am looking to see where 122 West 20th is in contoxt to that area. The person who wrote what we call the Infamous letter lived at taht address in 1899 and her name was Mary C. McDevitt.

TOPIC OF THE DAY: Here's a link to help all of us recall Fred Astaire's musical numbers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Astaire's_Solo_and_Partnered_Dances (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Astaire's_Solo_and_Partnered_Dances)
FRED ASTAIRE - Where to begin? Let's see...I like the unadorned, non-prop, "hard tap" musical numbers like "Jukebox Dance" and the last part of "Begin the Beguine" with Eleanor Powell from Broadway Melody of 1940. Another is "Bouncin' the Blues" from The Barkley's of Broadway with Ginger Rogers. These numbers I can watch over and over and never tire of.
Solos
"I've Got My Eyes on You" from Broadway Melody of 1940 - I love to watch him play the piano and the creative ways he uses the little "powder puffball" in that number. I also think his acting is wonderful in this film (emotionally transparent).
"Drum Crazy" from Easter Parade just amazes me! Is there anything left you can do with drums? Everything is in it! And I love how he outsmarts the kid.
"Say it with Firecrackers" from Blue Skies - I love the combination of sounds from the taps and firecrackers.
The golf solo from Carefree - Much more interesting to watch than regular golf. Astaire at play!
"Sunday Jumps" from Royal Wedding - The dance with the clothes tree and gym props. Another Astaire at play. Such inventiveness!
Sublime Numbers that Make Me Swoon
"Dancing in the Dark" with Cyd Charisse - Beautifully choreographed.
"Cheek to Cheek" with a smoldering (and molting) Ginger Rogers from Top Hat - This is the famous dance where Ginger's costume began shedding its feathers. Someone once dubbed this number, "how to make love while dancing."
"Waltz in Swing Time" with Ginger from Swing Time - They literally dance on air! A classic.
"They Can't Take That Away From Me" with Ginger from The Barkley's of Broadway. - I love how this dance unfolds.
"Story" Numbers
"Lets Face the Music and Dance" with Ginger from Follow the Fleet.
"Never Gonna Dance" with Ginger from Swing Time.
"The Girl Hunt Ballet" with Cyd Charisse from The Band Wagon .
"This Heart of Mine" with Lucille Bremer from Ziegfeld Follies and
"Limehouse Blues" with Lucille Bremer from Ziegfeld Follies - Both of these numbers I can watch over and over. I respond to the acting within the dances.
Favorites with Partners
Besides the aforementioned...
"Pick Yourself Up" with Ginger from Swing Time.
"Isn't This a Lovely Day" with Ginger from Top Hat.
"Fated to be Mated" with Cyd Charisse in Silk Stockings.
"The Babbitt and the Bromide" with Gene Kellly from Ziegfeld Follies.
"Please Don't Monkey With Broadway" with George Murphy from Broadway Melody of 1940.
"I Guess I'll Have to Change My Plans" with Jack Buchanan from The Band Wagon.
I still left a lot out!
Such joy and pleasure Fred and his collaborators gave us! Would that I could leave such a legacy.

I never war with socks, special or otherwise

Thus far, there seems to be no inkling of who is doing this hateful business or what motives might be behind it all.

Soon it's gonna rain
I can feel it
Soon it's gonna rain
I can tell
Soon it's gonna rain
What are we gonna do?

Nah, DR RLP - I wasn't born in an ice house....it's just Kelly's terpsichory that leaves me cold.
If one might point out in the still that has now been posted Three Times today, from the "Gotta Dance" number from SINGIN' IN THE RAIN - choreographer Kelly has directed that ALL four other people including Miss Charisse be looking AT HIM and no where else....even the hat on Miss Charisse's well-appointed leg.
And I don't remember Mr Astaire inserting self satisfied reaction shots of his mug into other people's dance solos in his films....
Oh Gene can dance...of course....different music - same god damned dance, as Judy said.... But yes he knows some steps.

Hmmm... it seems the men have been on the roof above my heads all this time and now they have just dragged the ladder up there with them.....
poor men. Its about 30 degrees out and the wind is bloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowing[/b]

But where else, pray, should any of those actors BE looking? Charisse is toying with Kelly...Charisse is the moll of a gangster whose mooks are sitting with her...OF COURSE they're looking toward Kelly..it's what anyone WOULD do. They want to see how he will react to her game.
:D
I'ts called motivation....works the same in choreography as it does in blocking.
Or should.
As for the alleged Garland quote: Judy made up things throughout her life to get laughs. For instance, the comments about Lahr, Haley and Bolger squeezing her out of dances was never true She made it up for a laugh. It was a great anecdote and she was a considerable wit. I've never seen the Garland quote on Kelly...but if she said it, I don't believe she meant it.

I know it not question day but I am hoping a New York City Hainsie/Kimlet can answer my question...
First off a little back ground....
I know Canon street was historically near what was once known as Hell's Kitchen and near Five Points.
However I am looking to see where 122 West 20th is in context to that area. The person who wrote what we call the Infamous letter lived at that address in 1899 and her name was Mary C. McDevitt.
Dakota, If you're talking about a street in old New York called Cannon Street (I can't find a Canon Street) it wasn't near Hells Kitchen which is the West Midtown area now often referred to as Clinton. Some people say it begins at 8th Avenue in the 40s and goes west to the Hudson River and north to 57th Street while others think it begins at 9th Avenue and continues west and north. Cannon Street was closer to Five Points, a notorious slum area in lower Manhattan (Five Points was in Scorsese's Gangs of New York and in the novel The Alienist). Five Points was not near Hell's Kitchen (Clinton).
Here is some information about Five Points:
Five Points (or The Five Points) was a notorious slum centered on the intersection of Worth St. (originally Anthony St.), Baxter St. (originally Orange St.) and a now demolished stretch of Park St. on Manhattan island, New York City, USA. The name Five Points derived from the five corners at this intersection. The neighborhood took form by about 1820 next to the site of the former Collect Pond, which had been drained due to a severe pollution problem. The landfill job on the Collect was a poor one, and surface seepage to the southeast created swampy, insect ridden conditions resulting in a precipitous drop in land value. Most middle and upper-middle class inhabitants fled, leaving the neighborhood open to the influx of poor immigrants that started in the early 1820s and reached a torrent in the 1840s.
At Five Points' height only certain areas of London's East End vied with it in sheer population density, disease, infant and child mortality, unemployment, violent crime and other classic ills of the destitute. But to characterize Five Points as a pure wasteland would be misleading, for it had a certain rough vibrancy that gave rise to some of the more admirable aspects of modern American life. It was the original melting pot, at first consisting primarily of newly emancipated African Americans and newly immigrated Irish. The confluence of African, Irish, Anglo and, later, Jewish and Italian culture, seen first in Five Points, would be an important leavening in the growth of America.
The fusion of the Irish jig with the basically African shuffle gave rise in the short term to Tap Dance and in the long term to a music hall genre that was a major precursor to American Jazz and Rock and Roll. This fusion occurred in Five Points, almost certainly at Almack's dance hall (also known as "Pete Williams's Place") on the east side of Orange St. (today's Baxter St.) just south of its intersection with Bayard St., circa 1840. This ground is today occupied by Columbus Park, used primarily by residents of modern Chinatown.
The rough and tumble local politics of "the ould Sixth ward" (Manhattan was at the time divided into "wards", with most of Five Points in the Sixth), while not free of corruption, set important precedents for the election of non-Anglo-Saxons to key offices.
Although the tensions between the African Americans and the Irish were legendary, their cohabitation in Five Points was perhaps the first large scale example of grassroots racial integration in history, with the possible exception of the integration of Spanish 'caucasians' with the people they conquered in Cuba, Mexico and Peru in the 16th century. In the end, the Five Points African American community moved to Manhattan's West Side and to the then undeveloped north of the island, but the years spent pursuing daily life alongside the Irish in Five Points and, later, alongside Jews and Italians in the same neighborhood, helped create a sense of common purpose among these minorities which even today manifests itself in the liberal wing of the American political spectrum, especially the Democratic Party.
About 1880, slum clearance efforts succeeded in razing Five Points and re-purposing the land-- a pyrrhic victory in that the masses of the indigent simply moved to the nearby Lower East Side.
The neighborhood was featured in Martin Scorsese's 2002 film Gangs of New York. The definitive history of Five Points is Professor Tyler Anbinder's "Five Points: The Nineteenth-Century New York City Neighborhood That Invented Tap Dance, Stole Elections and Became the Worlds Most Notorious Slum", ISBN 0684859955.
Here is some information about Cannon Street and Cannon's Dock and Cannon's Wharf which are near the now non-existent Cannon Street:
Cannon Street. (part) Originally ran from Grand Street north to Houston Street between Columbia and Lewis Streets. It was demapped for housing projects in the 1950s except for the block between Broome Street and Delancey Street South.
Cannon’s Dock. (L18-E19) At the foot of Broome Street, east of Goerck Street.
Cannon’s Wharf. (E-M18) Built before 1730 on the East River between Beekman Street and what is now Fulton Street.

The area you ask about, 122 West 20th, is in my neighborhood of Chelsea. It's between Sixth Avenue (AKA Avenue of the Americas) and Seventh Avenue probably in the middle of the block on the south side of the street. You looked at Deb/Vixmom's map so you have a general idea of where it sits..The area is a mix of residential and the remnants of light industrial spaces which still fill the neighborhood. I assume 122 was an residence of some kind so it's probably still there. It's not that far from Hell's Kitchen (about 20-22 blocks north and 2-3 blocks west) but it is farther from Five Points and Cannon Street.
Maybe I missed it but what is this "Infamous Letter"?
This is the longest post I've written in a long time. Someone silence me :D

I see it was not far from Broadway but definitely north of the area once known as Hell's Ktichen.
Actually, 20th Street is south of Hell's Kitchen.

Well, if they were straight men, I'd assuming they'd be looking at her.

Well, if they were straight men, I'd assuming they'd be looking at her.
If you were directing a play, is that the direction you'd give men in a scene when it isn't the woman's line...but the leading man's?
If you were the playwright, and your male lead had a key bit of dialogue, would you appreciate it if the other actors were ogling one of the women sitting stage right while the actor was "acting" and reciting his line stage left?
I think not. ;)

Yes, it will be a bumpy night! Since I was a rather good director, and better than some I've worked with as an orchestrator, I do my homework. I was always good at research, psychology and motivation.
Robert Burns, a Scottish poet, wrote the famous line "The best laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft a-gley" in "To a Mouse."
Following "Erin go bragh," I just want to point out it isn't an Irish thing. However, I am. An Irish thing. :)

LOL if I were the director, choreographer, AND star as well - they would be looking EXACTLY where they are.
And as for the Garland quote - it was actually something she said about Bolger when he guested on her TV show....but I thought it fit Mr Kelly quite well. I don't think I put quotes around it indicating that Judy said it specifically about Kelly, just that she said it. I said it about....you know who... the King of All Movie Dance....
Anybody see XANADU lately?

I think I forgot to respond to Jose's question yesterday. No, neither Anthony or I will be at Chelsea this evening to watch Miss Davis in Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte.

This is the longest post I've written in a long time. Someone silence me :D
I am drawing from perahps some family legend and mystery...
Known facts:, according to my 3xggrandfather's death certificate he was born 1 February 1850 [we think] in NYC. He was born to John Gallegher and Hanora Sweeney. However his father disappeared and his mother died 1 November 1859. My 3xggrandfather entered the Civil War at 13 years of age in 1863 in wisconsin. According to his pension records, they list his birthyear as 1849. He nor his descaendants talk about the past and it is proving to be an interesting journey. From what I can gather I have come across 15 differnt spellings of Gallagher that can be attributed to him. The relations in ND use a completely different spelling from the one I am using. I tackle this line every once in a while. when I need a break tackling my tangled web of GErmans on my father's side.
\
Below are excerpts of the infamous letter that has been handed dwon. Unfortuantely part of a page is missing.... So I am stuck with the remnants. (This letter has been a challenge to decipher it is definitely written in the Irish English.) My freind Cassie has even had a tough time for it is in a dialect she is not familiar.
Back to the story, Eliza, my 3xggrandfather Edward's sister, thought she was placing him ina school for an education in 1860 after their mother died. Eliza was taken by a Dr. Smith to do work and then eventually moved in with some Gallagher relatives, the John Mcentees. Whn Eliza tried to visit Edward in 'the school' they said he was no longer there. (My comment: By the time of the 1860 census, he turns up in the Wisconsin census. )
John Mcentee's daugtter, Mary C. McDevitt sent the letter in 1899 via a law frim in Grand Forks, ND She is 10 years older than my 3xggrandfather. Her mother was a Gallagher, a sister to Edward's father.
Mary was happy to make connection with Edward after years of searching. and the information is sketchy.
She goes into some informatin about Eliza and then it talks about Mary McDevitt and her sister Sarah Hyde and Sarah's daughter Jennie.
One story has it that Eliza married a McDonald....
Family legend: They lived in Hell's kitchen... Ben you just confirmed that they did not. My suspicions that is it was further north also.

A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were. The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and one was named Timex. Her friend said, "Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?"

The Burns reference...terrific that you corrected it.

I was really surprised that Ace was there. Although for some reason they seem to make a habit of sending the first of the bottom three back to the couch first. I never for one minute thought he would go. And i do think it will be a wake-up call to his fans. I definitely always pegged him for top 5. And think he has a lot of fans. But sometimes when people have a few favorites, they vote for those they think are in danger of leaving.
I was moderately surprised that lisa was there. ANd not too surprised that melissa was bottom 3. Although considering how the judges praised her i did not think she would be going.
It seemed obvious that when ryan said that one of ace or kevin would be safe, that it was kevin. They love to do stuff like that!

Judy's comment about the same dance was directed not at Gene Kelly but at Ray Bolger.
The people's eyes in the picture might have been looking at Gene but I'm sure most of the eyes in the theater were looking at Charisse, and he knew it.

Spent the entire afternoon throughly enjoying (once again) HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE. Though this was my first encounter with the DVD, I find that each time I have seen the movie, I understand more and more about interpersonal relationships between characters that I overlooked the previous time I saw it. This movie has much in it that multiple viewings make a necessity.

That's the part I've been mostly in.... stayed in Banth for a week and Jasper overnight, been to the Edmonton Mall a couple of times and stayed in the hotel inside the mall for two nights, and went to see the dinosaurs at The Royal Tyrell Museum and have been to the annual Steam Fair up by Beaver Lodge (we were there the day they installed the Giant beaver!) several times and we have family who live inthe city of Grande Prairie as well as just outside the city in the county of Grande Prairie. In fact the former Reeve of the County is close friends with my in-laws.
And one day we drove into British Columbia to see the "O Mile marker of the Alaska Highway
My niece has lived in Saskatoon for the past two years but we have never been there. I've been to the Canadian side of Niagra Falls. The rest of my Canadian adventures have been exploring the airports in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa.

Back to HARRY POTTER for a moment. I had read three or four reviews and reviewers were saying the DVD transfer looked soft. There may have been some individual shots that were soft for various reasons (CGI mixed with real world actors, impressionistic photography for the particular scene), but by and large, I thought it looked simply wonderful on DVD. True, I'm using an upconverting DVD player, but the transfer has to look good to start with or that player makes it look even worse.

And it was a good rehearsal. We got through a nice chunk of the show in the three hours we had scheduled this morning, and we have about 12 more before we move into the theatre on Monday. Then it's "pit fit", sound check, a couple of tech run-thrus, and that will be bring us to our first preview next Saturday.
:)

I don't get the point of the first statement. I've directed my fair share of plays...acted in them, too. Neither of us is making a living at it.
The Burns reference...terrific that you corrected it.
And the last reference...??????? "Erin Go Bragh" is most definitely and assuredly "an Irish thing" (http://www.eringobragh.net/).
The first point is that I do understand motivations. I was referring to your motivation in posting the earliuer comment.
Secondly, I was pointing out that following your Irish comment "Erin go bragh," your misquoted Scottish comment wasn't an "Irish thing." I am. Very Irish.
-
After rehearsal, I went ahead and headed back to the apartment for some lunch, and I also hooked up my DVD player to the TV in the living room. *Alas, the TV here is sort of old, so we'll have to switch out the cable cables in order to watch DVDs - but at least I got it all set up and plugged in.
Right now, I'm trying to figure out if a nap would be a good thing or a bad thing. I am bit sleepy since I did not sleep well last night. It took me a while to fall asleep since I was excited about the first orchestra rehearsal this morning, and then I kept waking up every hour or so afraid that I was going to sleep through my alarm.
I think I'm gonna just stay up, and get to bed a bit earlier tonight. Rehearsal is at 9:00am again tomorrow, but it will be a full day (9-Noon, then 1-4). But if I find myself dozing off, I probably won't fight it.
;)
-
Consequently, I believe I, too, am going to pass on seeing "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" tonight. I suspect that sitting in a dark theatre tonight - no matter what was showing on the screen - would just induce a nice nap.
;)
-
Its 5:04 EST and I am outa here!!!
-
Well, it is 2:21 pm pacific time and I am still in the office...but will leave at 2:50 pm so that the heater man can come and see why it is that my new gas heater smells so bad all the time.

Well, I was going to suggest it might be your bad breath blowing back in your face, but I decided it was rude. I'm striving to be a noble person.
-
I like the XANADU soundtrack more than I like the movie.
I agree there.. The soundtrack was fun... The movie stunk
-
Back from LACC, which was fun (new pianist is great and will become our regular guy), and seeing dear reader Jane and her ever-lovin' Keith at Du-Par's. We had quite a bit of fun and it was great to see them.
-
Pleasantly surprised to read that in its new timeslot, BONES won the 8 p.m. hour (though the SURVIVOR clip show had a few thousand more viewers; BONES had a higher overall rating, i.e. more households tuned to it). Pretty good for a show that was finishing fourth at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Hope the good ratings continue, though next week is when CBS moves OUT OF PRACTICE and COURTING ALEX to faceoff against BONES.
-
Guess I'll head down now to do some chores and then on to some TV/DVDs.

12 more hours to finish the show? :D
In all seriousness, when is the first run-through for timing purposes?

But...(quibble, quibble, quibble)...I never SAID it was an Irish thing. It was a stand-alone comment. One totally unrelated to the other. :)
Since you've again cited my misquote of Burns, I remind you that "erin go bragh" (or "braugh) is truly an Irish thing whether or not you want it to be. I've offered three links to three sites that prove my point (that's what you called "research", I think??) 8)
And shiver your timbers, but I've Irish in me, too. You don't hold copyright. ;D
As far as motivations go, yours are always clear to me. And I'm always up for whatever you want to discuss. ;)

Well, 12 more hours of orchestra-only rehearsal - before we move into the theatre and join the cast on Monday. However, I believe the "10 out of 12s" start tomorrow for the cast and technical crew. As for first run-thru... Well... The last run-thru in the rehearsal hall came in at just over 2:30 - shorter than the San Fran time. We'll see what happens once all the tech elements are added. I'm suspecting we probably won't get to a "no stopping run-thru" until late next week.

Take your head out of your ass. As the baby bear said to his mother, you bore me.
Isn't it time for an Allison Hayes photo?
-
For DRs JRand55 and MBarnum. And you, DR RLP!
-
Well, I admit he did seem very self satisfied....but I still like the way he filled out his trousers danced ;)
Just like our own BK (Who has not mentioned that in quite some time!) he had buns of steel! :D
-
"I Like Myself" is a perfect number for Gene Kelly to do....in fact almost every number he does in the movies could have that as part of the title (in parens)....."Singin' In the Rain (I Like Myself)"..."Moses Supposes (I Like Myself)"and of course the "Alter Ego Ballet (I Like Myself - Twice)."
I am sure you've read in his autobio what Mr Arthur Laurents thinks of Gene Kelly... and why the latter hurt his foot and could not make a certain musical... ;)
-

I haven't...and don't. Care to enlighten??
-
Oh, my, I totally forgot my favorite Kelly duet: "The Heather on the Hill" with Miss Cyd Charisse, one of the loveliest romantic dances ever filmed!
I agree! Just plain beautiful!
-
I haven't...and don't. Care to enlighten??
Well, I have a foggy memory about it (George, you NEED to read that bio!) but it took place at some party (At Gene's home, I believe) and Gene got so upset at some remark and, out of frustration and anger (I believe it's even "gay" related) he hardly kicked some step and hurt himself in the process; Mr Kelly could have quite a temper!
-
Take your head out of your ass. As the baby bear said to his mother, you bore me.
I'm absolutely embarrassed for you.
-
I'm absolutely embarrassed for you.
That's okay. I'm embarassed at myself for letting someone I have so little regard for affect me so.
-
I will now wibble-wobble off and prep something. Maybe a motivation.

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]Happy Birthday JB!

So nice to see you back, Donna! Long time no see!
Oh, I do love that Drum Crazy number too!
The genius of Fred is that he made one believe that his dancing was so easy!
-
I love all Donna's choices, too....
...BUT
...my favorite Astaire numbers in ANY category are:
"Begin the Beguine" with Eleanor Powell from "The Broadway Melody of 1940."
And that amazing "Swing Trot" opening for "The Barkleys of Broadway" with Ginger Rogers!
YES! Terrific number that Begin The Beguine, practically filmed in one continuous shot!
-
Interesting...but what was the "certain musical" that Gene couldn't make?
Sorry, I can't remember!
Will look for the answer; promised!
Certainly one that Fred ended doing!
-
George... I've found this at http://www.tcstyle.com/relax_nowshowing.shtml
Interestingly, the only co-starring movie vehicle for Fred Astaire and Judy Garland happened by accident -- literally.
"Easter Parade" was originally set to be directed by Garland's husband at the time, Vincente Minnelli. It was intended as a follow-up vehicle to "The Pirate," the Cole Porter musical Minnelli had directed earlier in the year.
A la "The Pirate," Garland's leading man was again to be Gene Kelly, who had made his movie debut opposite Judy six years earlier in "For Me and My Gal."
Before filming began, however, Kelly broke his ankle, telling the studio he did the deed during a dance rehearsal. The reality: He broke it during a weekend game of (stories vary) football, baseball or tennis. The latest spin, published in a recent autobiography by playwright Arthur Laurents: Kelly was playing tennis, got mad at his fellow players, slammed his foot down -- and broke the bone that helped make his name.
Because it would take Kelly six months to recuperate, Minnelli gave up and moved on to another project. Also moving on were the assigned co-stars, Frank Sinatra, Red Skelton and Kathryn Grayson

I will now wibble-wobble off and prep something. Maybe a motivation.
Maybe something a little less bilious and hateful.

We had a fun relaxing meal at Du-Pars's.
Bruce next time we will go to Casa Vega. :)
-
Thanks for the info, François!
-
We are looking foward to returning home-LA is too exhausting. So many people to see in such a short time.
The mornings we walk along the beach are very nice.
-
My brother in-law wants his computer back.
Bye.
-
Garland: THE MAN THAT GOT AWAY
HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS
Astaire: NEVERTHELESS
THREE LITTLE WORDS
Kelly: Not much (I would rather watch him dance)
-
Because it would take Kelly six months to recuperate, Minnelli gave up and moved on to another project. Also moving on were the assigned co-stars, Frank Sinatra, Red Skelton and Kathryn Grayson
And we got Peter Lawford and Ann Miller instead! I think we lucked out!

Los Angeles, Calif.: Arthur Laurents' memoir "Original Story By" offers a far from flattering portrait of Kelly who off-screen could be quite testy and rude. In my work as a journalist covering the film industry this view has been confirmed to me by many different parties. Does your film touch on Kelly's dark side?
Robert Trachtenberg: Absolutely, we interview Arthur Laurents. If you had watched the film carefully, you would have noticed that he was interviewed and confirmed exactly the question you are asking. He realized, and his first wife Betsy Blair has confirmed, they were very aware that at the time that the work that they were doing was better than any of the work they were doing at any of the other studios in terms of musicals. It was like high school -- our high school is better than your high school. He could be a snob, no question about it!

Can you share anything about which songs from the SF run were cut and how many new songs have been integrated into the score?
-
I believe the musical number with Gene Kelly and Jerry the Mouse is called
The Worry Song!

This is interesting. As to what is being said, I just want to point out that it is not something out of the ordinary for people working in the arts. Heck, it's not even out of the ordinary for folks who "discuss" the arts with passion.
I believe Debbie Reynolds has revealed some stuff about him, too. One was that during their screen kiss, he stuck his tongue in her mouth...she being a kid of 18 or 19...and him married and more mature. Of course, stories of such things in Hollywood at that time and earlier are legion.
-
Hmmm...now that you have pointed him out...I want to find out who that guy is! LOL!
...and you know me better then I thought DR WFO! Ha!
You shouldn't have any problem finding him now, M Barnum. I believe the encyclopedia lists him as the oldest living veteran of the Civil War.
-

Quite right! And I'm sure there are other artisits who could say "things" about Debbie too! False or true!
That should not make us forget their talents!
-
We've had an outbreak of violence in both San Francisco and Oakland in recent weeks in which people have been shot to death in schools and on sidewalks, etc.
Thus far, there seems to be no inkling of who is doing this hateful business or what motives might be behind it all.
Well, if the victims turn to have not been Gene Kelly fans, we will have a good idea where to start!
-
Well what's your damage, Heather? Are we crowding you or something?
:-*
Has our rainbow of pissiness over Gene Kelly reached critical mass?
:D
Who's Heather?
-
I thought I saw Allison Hayes!

Agreed! Everything is anecdotal.
What's up there on the screen is all that truly matters!
-
In checking with the Laurents bio - it seems there were two teams to play volleyball at Mr Kelly's house....the A team with Gene as captain, and the B Team who played afterwards...these were the duffers.
Gene's team won its first game but the B team having quite the fun time was laughing and not hurrying so that the now rested Kelly could take the court. When Laurents offered to vacate the net, Kelly was upset that he could take the competition so lightly and stormed into the house turning to throw one last epithet at the non-athletes (Laurents claims it was a gay slur), stomping his foot, breaking his ankle and losing out on EASTER PARADE.
Or so says Arthur Laurents.
-
How did she look?

Lovely as usual. Thanks. 8)

-

Can you share anything about which songs from the SF run were cut and how many new songs have been integrated into the score?
Hmmm...
Well, by the time I had seen the show during it's last week in San Francisco, the show was already down to a surprisingly brisk two hours and forty-five minutes.
Hmmm...
As for what's been cut, changed, enhanced, added... Well... I guess since some of that info has been "shared" in some of the video blogs that Hugh Panaro has been doing for Broadway.com...
I'm not exactly sure what numbers have been cut, but there are currently four new numbers in the show. Most everything else has been re-routined, re-structured, edited, or expanded.
The biggest changes have to do with the book. Lots o' changes. All for the better.
:)
-
And speaking of Broadway.com...
The latest Lestat entry features the fabulous Carolee Carmello. She gives a whirlwind tour of the backstage area of The Palace as well as of her dressing room. And she also reveals some interesting insights about her "process".
-
*And I may end up getting some camera time when they come to film part of the orchestra rehearsal tomorrow. Guess I should really try to get a good night's sleep tonight - I can't afford to have dark circles under my eyes tomorrow. -Especially with that florescent lighting in the studio.
;)
-
DRMATTH - NBC is all new tonight!
-
DR Vismom, thanks!!
I see it was nto far from Broadway but definitely north of the area once known as Hell's Ktichen.
Actually 122 West 20th street would be about 20-30 blocks south of Hell's Kitchen. Hell's Kitchen is generally thought of the 40's and 50's, west of 8th Avenue.
-
DRJOSE let us know if you are ON!! They haven't recorded the Cast CD yet have they?
-
Hell's Kitchen is in any house where I decide to cook.
-
Well, was I surprised last night when, while flipping through my collection of Ben Bagley cd's, I discovered that... Miss Susan Stroman, of The Producers fame, was once a singer!
SEE!
Rodgers & Hart Revisited, vol. 5 with Ann Hampton Callaway, Mary Cleere Haran, Dorothy Loudon, Arthur Siegel, Sandy Stewart, and Susan Stroman.
-
And of course the film about the devilish feline:
Hell's Kitten
-
Yes, I have! Thanks for noticing. Had a nice lunch at Taco Bell with friends talking about AMERICAN IDOL and THE SHIELD, a pair of strange bedfellows to be sure!
Why does everyone get to go to Taco Bell but me!?

Wow, I am really shocked and upset by some of the posts I've read today. Thought about just letting it go, but wow. I hope that it was more in jest than it seemed.

Killbot is attending an open call for the broadway musical version of this movie next week.

It was lovely to come home from my super long day at work and find that Rodzinski had prepared pan fried salmon! I quickly heated up some mashed potatoes and greenbeans and we had a lovely dinner.

I think it was... playful and somewhat got a little "out of control" and still remains a "joke"! At least, that's what I hope it was! ;)
-
And now that that lovely dinner has had time to settle, I must exercise! I too am trying to make changes in my diet and exercise, and good lord is it ever hard work.
I try telling myself that I really want to work on becoming healthier, but who am I kidding- I just want all of my pants to fit again!!

And a happy birthday to the lovely daughter of BK!

Why does everyone get to go to Taco Bell but me!?
I went to Taco Del Mar (http://www.tacodelmar.com/) for lunch today. They have punch cards. For every jumbo or super burrito that you buy, you can get your card punched (better than your face punched ;)) and when you have 10 punches, you get a free burrito...and Mondays are double-punch Monday, so you only need to buy five! Anyway, I had a completely punched card, so today I got my free burrito! It's a whole meal in itself. :)
-
Wear something stunning!
Well, I'll at least be wearing something warm. We're rehearsing on the top floor of building that is right off the West Side Highway - right by the water. Lots of wind. Lots of "cooling". And every time they adjusted the thermostat in the room, the A/C would kick in. Of course, one of the vents was right above me... well, dead center on my right hand. It's very hard to play runs with chilled fingers.
-
Point taken.
And do you accept my apology? :-\
Yes. And what I wrote to DR Vixmom was not meant to say anything against you. She is just very kind and I did not feel right about her feeling bad (thinking she said something that made me upset).
And btw, re: American Idol. Ace was in the bottom of the men? I don't remember that!
-
I've been slaving over a lyric - very difficult and I'm still only through the first verse and half the second verse. So, here's a little brainstorming session - The song is called The World of Tomorrow, sung by someone in the 1950s positing how the future will be - i.e. cars that fly, no more smog, no more flu, crime, war, etc. What other things would we have thought would be gone by now but are still with us?
-
We sometimes have disagreements on the board, as we all know - please, though, do keep it civil because it's ever so much fun.
-

What, if anything, did he use for seasoning on the salmon?

I'm delighted!
As for Ace, I read it on the board at IdolonFox that Ace had been one of the lowest vote-getters in the final selection for the men. I took it at face value, because the person writing seemed to know a lot about how everyone had fared each week leading up to the top 12.
The bottom line, though, is that he did not belong in that bottom three last night.
-

LOL! Amen to that. I am trying to avoid having to go out and buy some bigger clothes. Actually I need some new clothes, but not before I give a big chunk of my old ones to Goodwill.

Tell the MD you might need a heated keyboard!
Was there any way you could move out from underneath the vent?
I know...wear a cape....some blood red silk on the inside and something wildly exotic on the outside.

What other things would we have thought would be gone by now but are still with us?
acne, blind dates, politicians, TV dinners ,............broken hearts
-
Runs with Chilled Fingers...that's the title of my next book
Dead Center on my Right Hand -- that's the title of a one-act I'm thinking about.

okay, I know that was so bad! But I'm in a mood and I just couldn't help it. I know I'm going to get some crap for this. ;D

No more poverty, no more sorrow.
No more sadness.
Polio, measles, chicken pox...all made an exit...and are now coming back.
No more crime? We certainly thought things were getting better...perhaps free energy? Housing for everyone.
No more VD?
-
What, if anything, did he use for seasoning on the salmon?
Some seasoned breadcrumbs and soy sauce- delicious!
-
Republicans?
okay, I know that was so bad! But I'm in a mood and I just couldn't help it. I know I'm going to get some crap for this. ;D
Yes you are!
CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
Huh?
Wha....oh....never mind.

-
government spying on it's own people -
Ooh, good one.
When watching Good Night and Good Luck, I kept thinking that in 50 years everyone will be watching a movie about the very topic you just mentioned, and will think- why didn't everyone speak out against that?
-
Republicans?
okay, I know that was so bad! But I'm in a mood and I just couldn't help it. I know I'm going to get some crap for this. ;D
Actually, the Eisenhower Republicans who were socially more tolerant and fiscally conservative are pretty much gone. They've been replaced by a totally new animal. My dad one of the former, feels lost in his own party. I told him he can always leave it!
Now I'm going to get some grief!
-
government spying on it's own people -
:D
We certainly thought there would be space travel by now.
-
Okay, now I am really going to go exercise. For reals. I mean it.
-
Well, I'll at least be wearing something warm.
DRJose, are you rehearsing at Carroll?
-
beautiful kitchens where housewives would LOVE to spend ALL of their time.
-
DRJose, are you rehearsing at Carroll?
Maybe they're rehearsing in an undisclosed location.....oh, yeah, we're off the topic of the government spying!
-
Hell's Kitten is turning out to be quite the production!
-
But now that I think about it, it sounds like an Ann-Margret movie from the 1960's.
-
DRJOSE if you don't tell them the problem, they won't know....
"The new guy says his hands are cold!"
"Warm heart then no doubt."
-
As for Ace, I read it on the board at IdolonFox that Ace had been one of the lowest vote-getters in the final selection for the men. I took it at face value, because the person writing seemed to know a lot about how everyone had fared each week leading up to the top 12.
The bottom line, though, is that he did not belong in that bottom three last night.
I remember Bucky/Gedeon being in the bottom. I think I remember Kevin there too. Don't remember Ace (doesn't mean it didn't happen). Maybe he was one of the lowest on the polls? Or some people seem to have access to those services that say who had the lowest (they seem to be accurate).
I thought Ace was favored to win by the oddsmakers. And on the polls i've seen he is one of the most popular (with chris, kellie, taylor, and katharine).

Prejudice, intolerance, censorship, inequality - between races, sexes etc..,
.....Tapioca pudding! Didn't you think they would find a cure by now?
-

Did you really think we would be rid of these by now?
-

Ironing-free clothing -- of all kinds.
-
Check your cellphone!
OH! I just listened to the message. I still had the ringer turned off from rehearsal. And my phone was still in my bag. So...
::)
-
Tell the MD you might need a heated keyboard!
Was there any way you could move out from underneath the vent?
I know...wear a cape....some blood red silk on the inside and something wildly exotic on the outside.
We were all cold. The string players were having to deal with the brunt of it. When we started rehearsal, the room was actually warm and sort of stuffy. But as the rehearsal progressed, it began to get cooler. So... During the breaks, we would open the doors in order to let the heat in from the hallways.
-But they did get the heat working properly by the end of the session.
-
DRJose, are you rehearsing at Carroll?
Yes.
*And, actually, I'm glad I asked the concertmaster/contractor, Dale Stuckenbruck, where Carroll's was located. I seemed to remember it being somewhere closer to Times Square... Well, as I found out this morning, it did used to be located at 41st and 9th - and I believe I had a rehearsal or two there many years ago. And, actually, I believe the old building is no longer and a new one is going up in it's place.
-
DR TPunk, Rodzinski, elmore, Ben et al... Any plans for tomorrow night? Cocktails? Dinner? -I'm done at 4:00.
-
OOOOHHH!!!! And I started Page 11!!!!!
Alas, I'm too tired to dance right now, so...
Next?
-
And on that note... A high G - well, actually, you play the G two octaves above middle C, but it sounds four octaves lower. -A little bit of keyboard programming humor.
;)
Well...
Goodnight.
*And, yes, I am being a true WUSSBURGER WITH CHEESE AND BACON tonight. Ah, well...
:)
-
Hello - just catching up. I hope everybody is having a lovely evening.
Jose I am very excited about you Lestat experience.... I cannot wait to hear how your first preview performance feels. Have you heard about when you will be recording the cast album?
-
Congrats on day 1, Jose, I'll be watching for you on Broadway.com

No official word, but I believe it will take place during one of the days off we have after our opening week/weekend. Sort of the traditional slot for recording cast albums. We shall see.
-
A Bacon cheese burger....mmmm that sounds good. Not going to do it, though. I actually went to the ice cream capital of the world today and didn't get any ice cream.. I am very proud
-
I am off to have some tea. I have just learned that a freind must go to have a biopsy on a breast lump tomorrow and that her father-in-law was rushed to the hospital today, he had triple bypass surgery not long ago... so I ask for vibes for their family.. prayers are welcome too.
-
Good night all my dear friends. Sleep well and everyone arise happy, and well rested tomorrow.
-
If we haven't had a page 11 dance yet, how about THE TAPIOCA from the movie THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE?
Wasn't that lyric by Sammy Cahn?
-
~~~Vibes for Vixmom's Friend's Family!!~~~
-
Millie:
Gosh, I've never named a dance before, or anything.
Jimmy:
Well, what did you have for dinner?
Millie:
Franks.
Jimmy:
"trying it out" Franks? Franks, franks, franks, franks.
No, what else?
Millie:
Saurkraut.
Jimmy:
"trying it out" Saurkraut? Saurkraut. No. What else?
Millie: Oh, I had tapioca for pudding.
Jimmy:
Tapioca? Join me in the Tapioca?
Everybody tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tapioca,
Everybody, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap, slapioca.
If ya got the dap, dap, dap-dap-dappier flappers flap-flap-flappier
Everyone is happier when the do the tap tapioca.
When they do the flap flapioca.
Tap, tap, tap, tapioca,
Slap, slap, slap, slapioca,
Tap, tap, tap, tap the tapioca.
Let's pretend we've got a bowl, we're gonna have some sport. Ha!
Add trumpled licks and a rag-time beat, let's say about a quart. Yeah!
Ya stir and stir it with your knee, adding a bump or two.
Ya heat it, mash it, beat it, smash it, if there's a lump or two.
Don't let the temperature drop to many degrees,
Or you'll wind up with what is called the frozen tapioca freeze!
Everybody, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap tapioca, everybody freeze!
Slap, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap slapioca everybody freeze!
-
Hey, JRand55 there is a Lucy Marlow movie on tonight!...actually in 45 minutes on TCM.
-
It's now time for me to leave work and head home. Later!
LOL.
I used to think that line of Millie's was:
"Oh, I had tapioca puh-pudding."
And I wondered why they didn't fix that stutter since she doesn't stutter anywhere else.
-
I know! It does not measure up against the 2006 Academy Winner for Best Song, does it?!! ;)
-
I've just finished watching last night's "Invasion"!
Holy cow!
Unbelievable hold-your-breath, squeeze-the-arms-of-your-chair tension!
I was afraid this was the season finale, but more new episodes in April!
Hoo-boy!
-
I know! It does not measure up against the 2006 Academy Winner for Best Song, does it?!! ;)
Do you think they REALLY thought folks would be going out and doing "The Tapioca" on the dance floors?
Ha!
-
Do you think they REALLY thought folks would be going out and doing "The Tapioca" on the dance floors?
Ha!
Oh, no! They'd rather do The Carioca! :D
-
Do you think they REALLY thought folks would be going out and doing "The Tapioca" on the dance floors?
Ha!
The Tapioca is for the kitchen floor, I guess! ;)
-
Do you think they REALLY thought folks would be going out and doing "The Tapioca" on the dance floors?
Ha!
Oh,Lord, I am bitting my lip!!!
[/i]
-
Oh, no! They'd rather do The Carioca! :D
And "The Yam"!
-
Oh,Lord, I am bitting my lip!!!
[/i]
Let it go...let it go! Share...share!
-
INTERVIEWER: TCB, can you do "The Yam"!
TCB: Oh! I've DONE "The Yam"!
INTERVIEWER: Really? How good are you?
TCB: I'm Slam-Yam, Thank Ya, Sam!
-
If not the Yam, you can do the Sweet Potato.
(Or was that the Mashed Potato?)
-
BK, I know that someday, there'll be stereopticons that move.
Stereopticons, I can't believe it no I—
Someday in museums larger than the Louvre.
Oh yes, I know that someday they'll be wearing skirts way up to there....
-
If not the Yam, you can do the Sweet Potato.
(Or was that the Mashed Potato?)
I have a vague recollection of "The Monster Mash"...which I guess could be done with potatoes, sweet or otherwise.
-
I can mash potato.
I can do the twist.
Now tell-a me baby,
Do you like it like this?
-
Jose-
Tomorrow TPunk and I will be out in about in Times Square, so give us a call. It is a pal's birthday, and they've decided to dive into the St. Pat's melee. If you don't want to come meet us, your call might at least save us from what is sure to be bars full of the insane.
-
M*A*S*H POTATO for a page 12 dance, anyone?
-
DRMATTH - NBC is all new tonight!
Thanks for the warning! I had checked before any of the shows started just to make sure and saw that THE OFFICE was new and not a repeat. I think it's next week that everything else is new and it's a rerun.
-
The Pimp Song Boys are set to do THOROUGHLY HOTTER'N MILLIE next, featuring the hit song:
Rap, rap, rap, rap, rap, rap rapioca everybody
Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clapioca everybody
Any song is crappier
When you do the rap, rapioca
I kid of course, I like a lot of rap, but still, an Oscar?
-
Before prime time TV started tonight, I watched some of the special features on the HARRY POTTER set. Started with a conversation with the three stars. I have to say with his glasses off and short hair, Daniel Raadcliffe is growing up to be quite the hottie. I was impressed with his expanding chest in the bathtub scene in the film, but even in clothes, he's going to be quite a heartbreaker.
-
Was Elizabeth Swados' stuff in RUNAWAYS "rap?"
:)
-
WILL & GRACE had a chuckle or two tonight, but most of it was the gasping, oh-no quality of bad revelations and not particularly funny.
-
FOUR KINGS made me laugh several times tonight in its ridiculous stories of an iguana and Chinese food. I doubt the show will be asked back for next season, but there was some funny stuff here this week.
-
WILL & GRACE had a chuckle or two tonight, but most of it was the gasping, oh-no quality of bad revelations and not particularly funny.
Sounds Grace-oriented.
-
MY NAME IS EARL had a funny script with some great sight gags, a terrific supporting performance by Timothy Olyphant (the serious sheriff on DEADWOOD), and some tender moments as well. This is one of the more likeable episodes of EARL in quite some time.
-
Sounds Grace-oriented.
Pretty much split down the middle with Will and Grace tonight. Jack and Karen were truly peripheral players tonight.
-
THE OFFICE also mixed comedy and poignancy tonight with aplomb in a story concerning "Daughter's Day" at the office. Carrell is making a case for an Emmy nomination to match the Golden Globe Award he won in January.
-
Since WITHOUT A TRACE wasn't on tonight, I watched last night's CSI: NY. It was a rerun I had seen earlier in the season, but I re-watched since I couldn't remember how one of the two cases turned out. OK episode, nothing special.
-
I know. You've all be dying to have the lyrics of that Oscar winner so.....
Chorus 2X: Shug - singing] + (Djay)
You know it's hard out here for a pimp (you ain't knowin)
When he tryin to get this money for the rent (you ain't knowin)
For the Cadillacs and gas money spent (you ain't knowin)
[1] Because a whole lot of bitches talkin shit (you ain't knowin)
[2] Will have a whole lot of bitches talkin shit (you ain't knowin)
[Djay]
In my eyes I done seen some crazy thangs in the streets
Gotta couple hoes workin on the changes for me
But I gotta keep my game tight like Kobe on game night
Like takin from a ho don't know no better, I know that ain't right
Done seen people killed, done seen people deal
Done seen people live in poverty with no meals
It's fucked up where I live, but that's just how it is
It might be new to you, but it's been like this for years
It's blood sweat and tears when it come down to this shit
I'm tryin to get rich 'fore I leave up out this bitch
I'm tryin to have thangs but it's hard fo' a pimp
But I'm prayin and I'm hopin to God I don't slip, yeah
[Chorus]
[Djay]
Man it seems like I'm duckin dodgin bullets everyday
Niggaz hatin on me cause I got, hoes on the tray
But I gotta stay paid, gotta stay above water
Couldn't keep up with my hoes, that's when shit got harder
North Memphis where I'm from, I'm 7th Street bound
Where niggaz all the time end up lost and never found
Man these girls think we prove thangs, leave a big head
They come hopin every night, they don't end up bein dead
Wait I got a snow bunny, and a black girl too
You pay the right price and they'll both do you
That's the way the game goes, gotta keep it strictly pimpin
Gotta have my hustle tight, makin change off these women, yeah
[Chorus]
-
Glad you liked INVASION as much as I did, DR Ron. And I, too, was thrilled to know the show will be back with four final episodes in April. I'm not expecting it to be renewed, however. Against reruns of CSI: NY and L&O last night, it still finished a distant third in the ratings.
So, I'm going to enjoy whatever is left of its season and be glad for the experience.
When I look at that pathetic excuse for rhyming lines, it just makes me shake my head in disgust. Truly tragic.
I wonder... if that "song" is going to be translated into other languages!! LOL!
-
Isn't that song by the great team of Slam-Me Con and Pimp-Me Van Usin'?
-
Francois - Other languages? How about translating it into English first? :)
As my friend Keith loves to say "My how old Fred is getting!"
-
Heading for bed now.
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the evening.
Good night!
-
G'night, Matt.
-
I wonder... if that "song" is going to be translated into other languages!! LOL!
How about you doing some of the French for us...maybe the first "?" verse?
-
It's been another big numbers day on Haines His Way (.com).
-
Don't you love happy stories?
Here's one.... and I believe it was a well-deserving song, "slightly" better than some Pimp one, no?!
An article in the International Herald Tribune of yesterday about "Lion Sleeps tonight" ended that way;
"Some injustices cannot be redressed:
In 2001, Linda's daughter Adelaide died of AIDS at age 38, unable to afford lifesaving anti-retrovial treatment.
"But now it seems we must forgive, because rhey have come to their senses and realized they have made a mistake," Nsele said. "The Bible says you must try to forgive."
"Not "try"," her 17-year-old daughter Zandile corrected.
"It says "forgive"."
Bless her heart!
-
Now that I'm not remiss, I will say that I have been following NCAA basketball today. A couple good upsets, which is why I enjoy this time of year.
Pogue (and Ashley Judd)'s Kentucky Wildcats play tomorrow.
As do Ginny's Ohio State Buckeyes.
Jed's faves, the Washington Huskies played today and pretty much dominated Utah State.
And that is the HHW sports report.
Falling In Love Is Wonderful..... ;)
I never haz seen snow.
Actually 122 West 20th street would be about 20-30 blocks south of Hell's Kitchen. Hell's Kitchen is generally thought of the 40's and 50's, west of 8th Avenue.
I am doing an unusual approach in this line due to the fact we have the orphan train issue to deal with.
Another famiily legend laid to rest.
-
It's been another big numbers day on Haines His Way (.com).
We are an incorrigibly chatty group tonight!!
bk, continued broken leg vibes for Deceit....
also good luck on your musical..
I never haz seen snow.
I have way too much snow this winter.....
I am ready for SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bring on the colors of spring!
