Well, you've read the notes, the notes were just plain and maybe a little fun, and now it is time for you to post until the just plain fun cows come home.

And the word of the day is: PALLADIAN!

As promised, here's the new Kritzerland release - if you'd like one, it's $19.98 plus 3.75 shipping via paypal to kritzerland at adelphia dot net.
ONLY TWO THINGS CAN SCREW UP THEIR RELATIONSHIP. HE’S ONE, SHE’S THE OTHER
Kritzerland is proud to present a world premiere limited edition soundtrack CD:
ROMANTIC COMEDY
Music Composed and Conducted by Marvin Hamlisch
Bernard Slade’s Romantic Comedy opened on November 8, 1979 at the Ethel Barrymore Theater on Broadway, starring Anthony Perkins and Mia Farrow. It had a very healthy run of 396 performances and was the kind of, well, romantic comedy that’s become an endangered species, both on Broadway and film. In 1983, The Mirisch Corporation brought Romantic Comedy to the screen, directed by Arthur Hiller, starring Dudley Moore and Mary Steenburgen. The story is classic romantic comedy – Jason Carmichael hasn’t written a hit play since he and his writing partner split up. On the day of his wedding, in comes Phoebe Craddock, a quirky, funny, and endearing writer, who becomes his new partner. Through hits and flops, through marriages and divorces, the two flirt with their own romantic comedy – the closest of friends, the nearest of lovers and finally finding their happy ending. Moore and Steenburgen were terrific as the collaborators in everything but their own romantic comedy.
Reviews were mostly fine, with Roger Ebert especially enjoying the film for what it was.
“Not a whole heck of a lot happens in ‘Romantic Comedy’ but it happens so charmingly, and with such quick spirit and wit, that it's enough. This is the kind of movie Hollywood used to make to exploit the sheer charm of its great stars – performers like Cary Grant or Katherine Hepburn, who were so wonderful to watch that all you had to do was find something for them to say. The stars this time are Dudley Moore and Mary Steenburgen. Together, they have the sort of chemistry that might make any dialog work, and certainly works in Bernard Slade's story about a couple of playwrights who collaborate for years and years before they find the courage to finally come right out and kiss each other.”
For the score, director Hiller turned to award-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch and it was a perfect match of composer and film. Hamlisch basically came up with one theme for the film and then finds the most beautiful ways to present it – whether up tempo or slow, mournful or romantic, it’s a great theme (and one you’ll be humming for weeks), and while not many composers could make that approach work, Hamlisch does it with nary a false note.
For this CD, we used the original three-track session masters housed in the MGM vaults. While we would have loved to include the song “Maybe” that plays over the end credits (sung by Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack – and credited to Hamlisch, Carole Bayer Sager, and Burt Bacharach), it wasn’t available to us. Happily, Hamlisch recorded an instrumental of the theme, which is what we’ve used to close out the CD. While the score is fairly short, we do present every note of it. It’s always a pleasure to bring more Marvin Hamlisch to CD – the world certainly needs more Hamlisch and it certainly can use a lot more romantic comedy.
This release is limited to 1000 copies only. The price is $19.98 plus shipping
CD will ship by the end of August – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early). To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

Last night, I went to see TAO's production of "Othello." I'd never seen any stage production or movie of it and I must say that it was excellent! It was set in NYC during the late 1960s. The director, Robert is a friend. We'd done a few shows together and I found out tonight that when we were in "Romeo & Juliet" together last year, he was working on cutting "Othello" to a more manageable length than the original. The show he ended up with lasted a little over two and a half hours (including the intermission) but didn't seem like that at all. AND I could understand what was going on. It all worked quite well and I thoroughly enjoyed the show. There was one guy in the audience (the brother of one of the actors) who was visibly moved by the ending. He had his head down, trying not to cry...or at least, trying not show it. I wasn't that moved, but I certainly was into it.
-
Good morning, all! The oaf above me arrived mone sometime around 5:30 am, making lots of thuds in my ceiling as he (I assume) unfolded his bed. Would that he were gone!
I was up at 6:45 since tomorrow morning I have to be up at the same time to make my NYU dental checkup. This morning I need to run down to Toyland for some music and drag it home with me. I'd like to work here today and tomorrow and I have to assemble the Full Score of LADY OF THE SLIPPER's Finale Ultimo as it was published in the 1912 vocal score. I'd like to be out the door by 8:00 and hope to be back here by 10.
I had one very strange dream about John McGlinn's executor and me sitting in on a production meeting for a revival of BABES IN TOYLAND and doing my best to thwart it.
-
Morning all.
That is all.

CD ORDERED!!

DR ELMORE the Dream-o-Matic 6000 says that your dream indicates you do not wish your work on the BABES IN TOYLAND to end, and that, in fact, you dislike any activity that takes you away from it for any great length of time.

Lots of interesting posts yesterday.
I like OTHELLO.....even the Kenneth Branagh version from a few years ago....it's a most intriguing play.
-
WELLLLLLLL...................last night we started the show and then quelle deluge! Torrents of rain, lightning, and thunder.
And of course we ARE in a barn. We turned up the microphones so everyone could be heard, but it was most distracting and continued throughout the entire show.....distressing - the audience was of course distracted and thinking about the weather INSTEAD of the play....but it was a good final performance.
Set is struck - properties are put away, stage is swept, dressing rooms cleaned....and of course we did a lot of work that the cast/crew of HELLO, DOLLY didn't bother to do when they struck.....and somehow about 25 metal folding chairs that belong in the rehearsal center ended up in the prop room upstairs after HELLO DOLLY....strange.
-
DR VIXMOM congratulations on your yard sale finds....bargains ALL!!!!
-
Morning, all.

Glad to hear "Girl Who Played with Fire," the movie, isn't like "Dragon Tattoo." The books were written in a different style. In fact, all three books were written in a different style. The levels of tension were different. The aims of the writer was different in each.
-
DR Jane wrote:
Bruce I find it strange my brother can finally see THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE at a movie theater about the same time you can watch the DVD. NetFlix still doesn't have a release date.
The whole thing is sort of weird. I mean the books have been out in Europe for ages. Yet the 3rd book was just released here.
The movies have been out in Europe, yet are just coming out here. I saw the 2nd movie on dvd months ago (since all the books and dvds have been out in French for a while). I am wondering when the 3rd movie will be released on dvd in French (I am anxious to see it).
-
Vibes for DR TCB. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
re: the movie the GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE.
It's been a while since i saw the 2nd film. But I'm assuming it ends the same way as the 2nd book.
Btw, BK are you at all interested in reading the books now? IMO they are even better than the movies.
-
I feel so bad. My brother-in-law put my niece (the baby) to bed last night (since my sister went out). It is the first time he's put her to bed with my sister being out. And he forgot to put on her night light! :(
Poor Jadie!
-
I only got home last night at 6:30pm. And tried to get in a bike ride before the night storm. I rode for 30 minutes. Lucky i decided to go home then. Cause we had another really bad storm.
I would have been okay with the rain (plus i bring my umbrella when the weather looks iffy). But riding in thunder would not be fun.
-
I am making banana muffins now. I guess i should go check on them (they have 7 minutes left). Then i need to eat and get dressed.
At least it won't rain today so i can take a bike ride when i get home later.
-
I am a boy who doesn't want to read a book or see a movie with a title that begins with The Girl Who....
Unless it features Miss Annette Funicello in a bathing suit singing a song to Fabian.....dressed likewise.

I know....I know....I am a culture hound.

My favorite Mary Steenburgen film will always be TIME AFTER TIME.
I like that film too. I believe it was her first film or second or third. There is a great score by Miklós Rózsa. Also liked her in One Magic Christmas, Ragtime. The Whales of August and The Grass Harp.
-
Today I will audition for NEVER TOO LATE.
I purchased a copy of the CD COMPANY IN JAZZ produced by MR BK and it is most enjoyable....MOST!
I think I have one other of these CD's, I will have to check.
Might other DR's have suggestions as to the ones they enjoy the most......in the BK Jazz series.

Ginny, we did Florida with the kids a few years ago and I have one reminder, which we were too stupid to realize until the last day we were there: your parking pass is good all day at any of the WDW parks, meaning you can leave and come back. :)

I can't imagine Fabian wearing the bathing suit that Annette does
-
Today I will audition for NEVER TOO LATE.
I recall seeing Andy Devine doing that show back in the late 1960s at the Valley Music Theatre.
-
I cannot find a recording of Maybe elsewhere. Why was it not available?
-
DR Ginny Epcot is your best choice. It's my favorite of all the parks at WDW. When Mom and I go, we could spend the entire time there.
-
PUDDING!

PUDDING!
And since it's Free-For-All Day, FREE PUDDING!!!!! FOR ALL!

EPCOT
-
NEVER TOO LATE is so funny....and I love the movie.....with Mr Paul Ford, although I am less in love with the performance of Miss Maureen O'Sullivan.....Connie Stevens and Jim Hutton.....
And though there is NO star power there - I think Jane Wyatt who plays Grace would have been a dynamite Edith!

My favorite Mary Steenburgen film will always be TIME AFTER TIME.
Yes, indeedy! I also liked her in MELVIN AND HOWARD.
What should have been, at most, a 75-minute round trip ended up being over two hours because the MTA has really screwed up the transit system this morning: I got to the subway to find there was no service and that meant a walk to 72nd Street. Because I was in a hurry, I figured I'd just take a taxi down, so we sat at 75th Street because a huge truck couldn't make a turn, and as we sat, my fare went from $2.90 to $4+, so I paid the driver and walked to 72nd Street and finally an express subway pulled up. I got off at 34th and walked the seven blocks to 27th Street. That all took me around 45 minutes instead of what usually at the most is 20.
I got my stuff together in 10 minutes and then waited 20 minutes at a bus stop where two buses I can take usually stop. This morning the bus wasn't running above 42nd Street so I had to get off there and walk to Seventh Avenue and take the subway to 72nd Street. Needless angst. So I got home drenched in sweat and climbed into the tub. I may be cooled off but I am still pissed!
-
Good morning.
I'm glad to say my electricity is back after being off for about an hour this morning. I'm on my way to Target, Kohl's and the supermarket.
-
JRand, even if this is what she looks like?
-
LOL DR CILLA LIZ - I saw that girl at Putnam County Playhouse auditions for BYE BYE BIRDIE. She wanted to be Kim.

I don't recall who played the wife in the Devine production, but my friend, Gigi Perreau, was the daughter and Will Hutchins was the son-in-law.
BK,
Do you recall who played the wife in that Valley Music Theatre production?
-
I went to a library book sale yesterday morning and picked up two over-flowing bags of books for $4.00. Ended up with 18 books, two of which contain 3 or more novels. My greatest find was a copy of Very Caspary's LAURA, though I did get quite a few Michener novels as well.
-
Last night, I ventured downtown for the CLO production of THE PRODUCERS which had a top-billed (!) Joey Fantone as Franz. The reason I was going was the actor playing Leo Bloom: Jim Stanek, who I had not seen in four years.
To say that this production was a delight from start to finish would be an understatement. I had forgotten how side-splittingly funny the book is when done properly. This production hit every note, every laugh and every groan for an enjoyable evening.
Of all the Blooms I've seen: Matthew Broderick, Don Stephenson and Hunter Foster, Jim Stanek was indeed the best. He made Bloom his very own creation and left his mark on the character. His was also the best-sung Bloom I've ever heard.
Jim and I spent a long time after the show catching up and he introduced me to his ever-lovin' wife.
Here's a photo from after the show:

For Some Reason I can Not Get Romantic Comedy on The Kritzerland Site.
Why Not? I Don't Know! ??????????
-
I like Mary Steenburgen in the aforementioned films as well as in CROSS CREEK.
She was good in "Cross Creek" but miscast, if you want to go by the truth of the matter. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings was a short, exceedingly round woman who hit the bottle quite a lot. If you ever see her cookbook, "Cross Creek Cookery," with all its lard and carbs, you'll come to realize exactly why she was physically the opposite of tall, slender Mary Steenburgen.

I can't seem to do quotes correctly.
-
Yikes, is it really two weeks since I visited? Feels like 14 days.
Latest is that the former bosses are trying to keep me from collecting unemployment (odd quirk that they'd have to be out of pocket due to employee-versus-independent-contractor issue that unemployment seems to have sided with me on).
Their lawyers seems to be aware of anything google-able that i do, and they seem to be coming up with any theories to make me ineligible for Unemployment - since it's coming out of their pocket.
I'm assuming they found who I am on this site because I'd used it while in the office over the years.
-
Or else they recognized me form my photo or initials :)

And the word of the day is: PALLADIAN!
HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL?

Welcome back, Fred!

Hi, Tom!

cd ordered ;D
-
Why do I seem to not want to anything productive on the weekends lately ? I could just sit and watch movies or listed to cd's at that's it.

Well...it's time to shower, then I'm going to go back to the Capital Lakefair celebration. Today is the last day and I didn't actually get a chance to go last night before seeing "Othello," so I'm going now.
Have a good day, all!
-
I'm lazy.
-
Not errant and truant, just lazy, on these lazy hazy days of summer.

;D
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! We are back from Lima and Rob is back from Michigan (he and Mary Linda attended a wedding reception for friends who were actually married in Mexico). I need a nap.

If you want to order ROMANTIC COMEDY today, you have to order it from Paypal. It won't be on Kritzerland until the formal announcement.

TIME AFTER TIME is one of my Top Ten favorite films of all time.
-
I would like to read the Larsson books but I don't read fiction anymore since I started writing it.
Why?
That would be awful to never read another book that was fiction.
-
Sam, I wasn't there - they'd sent me a call sheet the day before the shoot and I told them no - I needed to a) be asked rather than informed, and b) needed a little more time than twenty-four hours to arrange my schedule.
-
Had a wonderful lunch with the photographer - she will indeed be doing a new photo shoot with me within the next couple of weeks - very excited about that.
-
Oh let's get off this page
-
I would like to read the Larsson books but I don't read fiction anymore since I started writing it.

Because one tends to be influenced by other writing styles - a lot of authors won't read other fiction when they're writing it. Now, if I decide to do a part two non-fiction book next, then I can read them. Or, if I do a new Hofstetter and THEN a new non-fiction, THEN I can read it.

Watching "Hoarders, " while cleaning. I just don't have room for everything!
-
This morning I got up and trimmed back all the bushes around the Gazebo and those that are lined up with them. Then I took down the rest of the chain link fence. I didnt' remove the posts, that's for the football player working with the handy men. But I knew they wouldn't know which bushes that I didn't mind trimming or getting rid of etc, so I decided just to have it done for them. And I couldn't wait to see what it will look like without the chain link. I'm going to love it.
-
We have moles. I think they may have been living in my yard, but I had the yard sprayed for grubs, so now they are looking for food elsewhere. I hate to kill anything, but moles really damage the yard.
-
I heard from the leader of the group that is coming to camp here. They won't arrive until late Sat afternoon or early evening. They will be gone by 8:00-9:00 AM on Sunday. He also said they have one team member who will try to talk his way into sleeping in the house but I should just tell him to camp in the yard, lol.

Forgot to mention the wonderful little envelope I got from new dear reader KevinH - from Ireland - a patch that says "kiss my ASS".

Watching "Hoarders, " while cleaning. I just don't have room for everything!
I find watching Hoarders makes me feel better about my house not being totally neat

One of the houses that had been red tagged in April (deemed not safe to inhabit) was cleaned up by the meeting last Thursday, looking at the before and after photos, we think they were hoarders.
-
I'm trying to decide if I'm catching cold or if it's allergies. I hate feeling like this and there really isn't room on the schedule to feel this way

DR FJL, glad to see you . Totally understandable if you aren't posting on the internet much until things are worked out.

Well in the case of the Larsson books, he didn't write them (he wrote the Swedish versions). So you'd be influenced by the translator!
-
Auditions seemed to go well....I read several times with different people and only one other person read for the role that I would like to have.....of course someone perfect may show up tomorrow night....I leave it in the hands of the theatre gods.

Because one tends to be influenced by other writing styles - a lot of authors won't read other fiction when they're writing it. Now, if I decide to do a part two non-fiction book next, then I can read them. Or, if I do a new Hofstetter and THEN a new non-fiction, THEN I can read it.
Well in the case of the Larsson books, he didn't write them (he wrote the Swedish versions). So you'd be influenced by the translator!
;D

I feel so bad. My brother-in-law put my niece (the baby) to bed last night (since my sister went out). It is the first time he's put her to bed with my sister being out. And he forgot to put on her night light! :(
Poor Jadie!
Did she get upset? Maybe you should be saying poor brother-in-law ;)
I think she cried for 15 minutes. But I say "poor her" because she had to cry in the dark!
I'm confused. Didn't someone hear her and turn the night light on?
-
I think I shall now watch some television episodes featuring Miss Allison Hayes....each of them first broadcast last century.
-
JMK Wallace, Idao is even smaller than Jacksonville. You have bee to Jacksonville?
-
Hmmm, guess I really did need a nap...
-
Yes, the overwhelming consensus, both here and at church this morning, is that we should visit Epcot. So tomorrow I'm off to AAA to pick up maps and other info. I'll make our plane and hotel reservations online tomorrow, too.
-
I'm trying to decide if I'm catching cold or if it's allergies. I hate feeling like this and there really isn't room on the schedule to feel this way
Oh, I have got this problem as well!
I've found that a hot, really hot, soak in the tub in the early evening/late afternoon followed by a short nap helps. However, I'm still sneezy every evening, even when out walking with Miss Dixie Bell.
Chai tea before bed helps me to sleep through the night.

Just had a call from a friend from the lakes. I forgot I told him he could camp at my house for RAGBRAI next weekend. LOL, I have no idea who else I said could stay here. This could be interesting. He's got a little RV. I think I'll put him in my driveway, the bus in street and the luggage vans in my other little driveway. I'm going to take Friday off. Since they haven't even started pouring cement or finished the deck, I think I'll still be getting the yard ready. Plus there is a documentary about RAGBRAI that will be screening on Friday. So I can go participate in the Friday festivities - and the Saturday day festivities. No one is arriving until 4:00 PM. should be perfect.
-
Fascinating book, DR Jane.
-
I've been thinking about reading EVERY MAN DIES ALONE. Has anyone read it?
This is more about the interesting author than the book. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Every-Man-Dies-Alone/Hans-Fallada/e/9781933633633

Fascinating book, DR Jane.
I'm enjoying it very much. I'm not sure it will be my book discussion pick. I have a few more books to read first.

In case you 'd like to know more about this insane party of 10,000 people going from one side of Iowa to the other, here's the site

and here's a trailer for the doc about RAGBRAI

While browsing the book store today two other books were suggested though they didn't interest me as much as Every Man. Has anyone read THE MAGICIANS or THE AMERICAN GIRL?

I watched the video and it looks like fun. I laughed at the AA meetings yet link it is wonderful they have them,.
-
Watching The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, which, of course, is not the literal translation of the Swedish title - in fact, the only one of the original Swedish titles that has The Girl in it is The Girl Who Played with Fire.

I have no idea how some of those people make it from one side of the state to the other. They literally drink their way across the state for 7 days. Not everyone, but a lot of them. Their first day is 70 miles. Not too bad. Every little town along the route really goes all out and cashes in. For the overnight towns it's a lot of work and expense, but the people spend lots of money. In the little towns along the route, every church, scout, or whatever group is out selling food, water etc.... they've cracked down a little on the partying. When I worked in Milford my office was on the route. About a block from my office there was a topless volleyball game at 11:00 AM. It was insanity!

No wonder you were told not to let the person sleep inside your house.;)

Oh, I think it's more of a "he takes pride in talking his way into staying in people's houses, so don't let him do it" kind of thing. Makes me wonder if they bet on it
-
Hmm, I think I wouldn't want to play the game. ;D

AND?
-
DR Cillaliz - I agree with Jane, stay out of it. Probably a good idea, in general, not to let strangers sleep in your house.
-
Especially if they are drinking too much.
-
Cilla - the pizza was great.
-
As I think i said, the labor dept people seemed especially interested that my boss had tried to withhold my actual final Paycheck in order to force a release. (I don;t care if they know that.)
-
These things have a way of consuming. I'd imagine it's like having an 18-year relationship or friendship end suddenly.
-
DR FJL - nice to see you here!
-
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - original Swedish title? The Air Castle that Blew Up.
I will have much to say about the third film, but I will say that it only solidifies that the second film was exactly what it needed to be.
-
Good to see you, FJL. I'm sorry you are having such a rough time with former employers.

Yes. It is sad they are treating you this way. How long did you work for them?

I think we will wait for both movies on DVD before we watch the second one. I suspect Keith will enjoy it more that way.

I read a book by J.B. Priestley called "The Magicians." Wasn't one of his better works. But I would imagine there are other novels of the same name out there.
-
Spent the last 10 hours working (on my day off). So, it's off to bed. Night, all.
-
I just finished watching THE BROTHERS RICO.
I liked it, as I do with most of Phil Karlson's films, but I thought that the ending was rather abrupt.
-
Cilla, be sure to let us know if you got conned into letting him inside. :)
Not going to happen. I'm actually glad my friend Joe is going to be staying here. He and his wife are good friends, and he was my contractor at the lake. It's nice that there will definitely be someone here I know. I have no idea who else I told that they can stay here and how many people I've told to stop by, lol. This may be a crazy party....or they may all take the bus downtown to the concert and just show up to sleep.
-
The bad news is the forecast is rain all week. I'm hoping it holds off long enough for the men to get the deck put back together and the gazebo floor in.
-
I worked at the office for about 5 hours today.
-
DR Cillaliz - I agree with Jane, stay out of it. Probably a good idea, in general, not to let strangers sleep in your house.
I'm not going to let him stay in, but I do need to leave the door unlocked so they can use the bathroom
-
Well, think I'll try to get some sleep. I have a very busy day at the office tomorrow. Night!
-
I think everything is prepared for our announcement in the morning.
