Thanks for the list!

I felt surprised for Wicked.  I did not expect Avenue Q to win Best Score and Best Book.

One person in the world with whom I would like to be stuck on an elevator least:  Miss Anne Heche.

DR td, Tony Bennett seemed a beat or two behind his music constantly though his song. I think the performers have a hard time hearing the orchestra in that cavernous place.

When AVENUE Q won Best Book and Score, I immediately thought of the year URINETOWN took those prizes and didn't win Best Musical (MILLIE did). Will the same thing happen tonight? Stay tuned!!

I cannot believe Audra won again.  4 Tonys by age 33. Amazing.

From the audience applause, I thought Margo Martindale might pull it out, but Audra won.

The ASSASSINS number was more entertaining than the entire production of the show I saw...and Q and BOY FROM OZ were all fun to watch...and might inspire me to buy a ticket.  CAROLINE OR CHANGE and WONDERFUL TOWN....no.

Acutally, I'm now more curious about Caroline or Change than I was before.  I've listened to some of the score, and I didn't care for the music or the characters.  Now I want to find out where all that anger comes from.

IMHO, the number from ASSASSINS was a beat or two off.
My impression is that a LOT of the show has been a beat or two off, in the performances.  I think it has to do with the size of Radio City.  (Which is large enough to be one.)

Hmmmmmm. FALSETTOS won Best Book and Best Score, too, but CRAZY FOR YOU won Best Musical. Of course, CRAZY's score wasn't eligible for Best Score, so perhaps that's an unfair comparison.

Poor Stephen Schwartz is in the same situation with Julie Andrews, Rob Marshall, Jerry Mitchell: lots of Tony nominations and no wins.

Well, you can't exactly say that he deserved to win this time, can you?

I like the score to WICKED very, very much. After I see the show, I will see how it works in context.

Retraction:  The first time he came out, Stokes looked like he was on tape and I said so.  Second time it was clear his presentation was live.  Mea culpa.

Loved Martin Short's schtick.  Especially the line about a show being only as good as the director, just like the CIA.

It's late for me, too.  Manana.  Or later today, depending on the time zone.

DR SWW, can you give me a ride home?  I'm pooping out, too.

Strange party experience for me.  I'm sober and I haven't had my face slapped once.

Isn't it funny that what is generally considered the worst of the best musical candidates was the most enjoyable thing on the show?

What are all these WUSSBURGERS pooping out?  It's only one on the East Coast.

Home from the Tony party. Your posts have been very interesting re. the show. None of the musical numbers came off as well as they do in the theatre. Radio City is far too large and the lack of the real scenery (the award for Best Scenic Design went to Eugene Lee for WICKED...not Tom Pye for FIDDLER) really doesn't do justice to what you would normally see in the theatre. "Defying Gravity" works FAR better in the Gershwin, but I thought that Idina and Kristi were great. Idina sounds fatigued, but not nearly as tired/sick as Tonya. Her performance tonight didn't help CAROLINE, OR CHANGE at all. "Swing!" works much better in the show, as well. They chopped it to bits, and Donna was really overdoing it tonight. AVENUE Q came off pretty well--really well, actually--and I'm very happy for their outcomes tonight. Poor Mr. Schwartz...I think he left after his award category was announced. I was pleasantly surprised by one of the awards...I won't divulge which for you West Coasters who still haven't seen the whole show.

Hugh Jackman proved tonight that he is a star in every sense of the word. Charming, handsome and uber-talented, I hope he does another Broadway show very soon after BOY FROM OZ. Audra: No suprise there, but congratulations to her. I can't begrudge her winning four Tonys by the age of 33. Give her another two years and I bet she'll be tied with Julie Harris. I wouldn't be surprised if she wins a few more in the future.

Re. Mary J. Blige: Priscilla Lopez she ain't, but you know what? I didn't think it was so bad. Times, they are a-changin' and if that means having R&B singers perform to draw an audience to the Tonys and keep them on TV, well...so be it. I'd rather have that than to not be able to see them at all.
