One of the women who came up to the stage with the producer of Assassins looked like she didn't realize she had forgotten to put on a dress until after she got to Radio City and rectified the situation by pulling up her slip to cover her bra.

I have to say I was dissapointed by a few of the performances but Ave Q and Hugh's performances stuck out for me. I was thinking about talking about my Tony predictions for Ave Q but that would give it away and I can't do that! Good thing I thought about it! This broadcast was better than most, but I still have a few qualms. Hopefully I'll be able to get tickets to the show that won best new musical when I go to New York with the national publicty it's gotten. (Won't be until October, so I am going to save up soon and get the tickets soon.) :-) Shouldn't be too hard! :-) Overall I am satisfied with tonight's results.

I forgot to mention that Marty Short was the best thing on the show tonight, presenter-wise.

While I'm posting -

Defying Gravity did not come off on stage as well as I'd hoped it would...that many closeups on Idina...not a good idea.

Loved the Avenue Q song...fun to see how it differs from what I was imagining in my mind all this time.

So far I'm not objecting strongly to any clothing...I'm liking the little black dresses.

Best speech of the evening so far goes to Phylicia Rashad.

Was that Neil Patrick Harris in the cast of Assassins?

The nadir of the show is now happening - someone named Mary J. Blige is wooing her way through What I Did for Love.  Every line has to have multiple "woo"s in it.  And I just don't take seriously anyone who has to have highly visible tattoos on both their arms.  I had to leave the room.

My favorite dress had to be the one worn by the lovely and wonderfully talented Carol Channing. You just gotta love her! :)

Ditto.  For this we had major awards presented before the telecast began.

Agreed, but am I alone in the perception that it did not come off as spontaneous?  It sounded like it was carefully wordsmithed and rehearsed and rehearsed.

I don't mind the tatoos so much, but I also don't like all the "improvising" of the melody.  Can't these singers just sing one note??

I didn't realize until she walked on stage that I didn't know who Mary J. Blige is.  All this time, I was thinking (for whatever reason) that Macy Gray was going to sing the song.  I could NOT see that happening.

Funny, the orchestra did not cut off Mr. Hugh Jackman's speech, the longest of the evening, I believe.  Funny.

That doesn't surprise me.  It's about 10:53 (according to my computer clock) and they only have one award left.  How long could that take??

Well, I'd say the Avenue Q folks should be happy and making many trips to the bank.  It won't hurt Wicked, but I can imagine that no one connected with that show can be very happy right now.  Except Idina.

Someone posted earlier that the east coast broadcast went to 11:04.  They must've cut bits out to make it fit for the west coast.

Avenue Q won best musical!

This might be the first time in my life that I've watched the Tony's all the way through.  Go me.  But I was happy with the results for the most part.

I leave the show with the impression that Mr. Hugh Jackman could be the next Cary Grant and Fred Astaire rolled into one.  I just hope he is able to find material suitable to his talent and does not discover that he was born two generations too late.

I don't believe this partay is quite over yet.  It's not over until the fat lady sings.

Well, I'm not leaving just yet, but I have to bake some cookies.  My Relay-For-Life team is having its last bake sale tomorrow and I have a box of Otis Spunkmeyer frozen cookie dough.  They're all pre-made portion sizes, so it'll be pretty easy, just take some time.

The last time I made these, I tried to make a giant bar cookie, but it didn't quite work.  It would be easier, but this cookie dough is not really made for it, and I don't want to through out poorly cooked cookies again.
