Hello all.  BK, glad you are taking everyone's advice. I agree with them all. I've sent those emails before and have regretted them. I have never regretted not saying things, even if they were honest and reflected how my feelings were hurt.

And then there's "Friends" that Bett Midler recorded

And I am all alone.
There is no one here beside me.
And my problems have all gone.
There is no one to deride me.

But you got to have friends.
The feeling's oh so strong.
You got to have friends
to make that day last long.

I had some firends but they're gone,
somethin' came and took them away.
And from the dusk 'til the dawn
here is where I'll stay.

Standing at the end of the road, boys,
waiting for my new friends to come.
I don't care if I'm hungry or cold,
I'm gonna get me some of them.

'Cause you got to have friends.
Da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, friends.
That's right you, oh you, yeah you,
I said you gotta have some friends,
I'm talkin' about friends, that's right, friends.
Friends, friends, friends.

I had some firends, oh, but they're all gone, gone,
someone came and snatched them away.
And from the dusk until the very dawn, you know,
here is where I gotta stay, here is where I gotta stay.

And I'm standing at the end of a real long road
and I'm waiting for my new friends to come.
I don't care if I'm hungry or freezin' cold,
I'm gonna get me some of them.

'Cause you gotta have friends,
that's right, friends, friends.
I gotta me my, I gotta me my, I gotta me my,
look around and see all of my friends.
Oh, friends, that's right, friends, friends,
friends, friends, friends, friends, oh,
friends, you gotta have friends . . .

I think the score for TEN LITTLE INDIANS is cheesy, but I think they were trying to make the movie seem more "hip" to the times. I mean, they cast two gorgeous women in roles than didn't really require that kind of voluptuousness (Judith Anderson was Emily Brent in the 1945 version), and they also had Fabian as a hipster (instead of a Russian playboy) and Hugh O'Brien as the studly lead - much more moddish than the staid Agatha Christie play on which it was based.

I have to agree with TPunk, it's a weird day... all around, really.  It's a "crawl into bed and cover your face with the covers and wait out to the next day" type feeling.  Maybe we need a live chat??

Old Friend (Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford -I'M GETTING MY ACT TOGETHER AND TAKING IT ON THE ROAD)

Everytime I've lost another lover,
I call up my old friend
And I say "let's get together,
I'm under the weather,
Another love has come to an end"

And he listens as I tell him my sad story
And wonders at my taste in men,
And we ponder why I do it,
And the pain of getting through it
and he laughs and says "You'll do it again"

And we sit in a bar and talk til two
about life and love, as old friends do
and tell each other what we've been through
how love is rare, life is strange
nothing lasts, people change

And I ask him if his life is ever lonely
and if he ever feels dispair
and he says he's learned to love it
cause it's really all part of it
and it helps him feel the good times when they're there.

Yes  we sit in a bar and talk til two
about life and love, as old friends do
and tell each other what we've been through
how love is rare, life is strange
nothing lasts, people change

And we wonder if I'll live with any lovers,
or spend my life alone.
And the bartender is dozing
And it's getting time for closing
So we figure that I'll go it on my own

But we'll meet the year we're sixty two
and travel the world, as old friends do
and tell each other what we've been through
How love is rare and life is strange
Nothing lasts and people change.

Heading down now for the usual household chores and then the remainder of THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER. At its conclusion, I think I'll watch GIVE A GIRL A BREAK. I was just reading about its tumultuous production in the Stanley Donen biography today.

I've just read today's notes and only read a few posts so far. IMHO go with the advice of DR Elmore.  Friendships can survive many years of ups and downs and lack of reciprocity of needs.  If they are to truly die they don't need a formal end. Using email or worse a text message is not an option - you can't just delete them later!
