Title: THE ANITA KERR SINGERS TELL IT LIKE IT IS

Well, you've read the notes, the notes and the Anita Kerr Singers told it like it is, and now it is time for you to post until the Anita Kerr Kows come home.

Yesterday, I went to my parents' house and helped my mom get her laundry room ready for the second washer and dryer set to be delivered.  The first set couldn't be installed because they were too big by just a couple of inches to fit where they need to go.  This set fit perfectly, so they could stay.  Unfortunately, the washer is kind of loud and it's pretty much in the middle of their house, so you can't really get away from it.  We'll see if it's really annoying when she starts using it on a regular basis.

As is standard at this time in the world, I have no specific plans for the day.  I should start doing more laundry and cleaning, so I guess that's the plan.  We'll see. ;)

Actually, the plan is to watch Doug's play, In My Mind's Eye.  That's the plan! :) But first, I'm off to bed.

Have a good day, all!

Listening to a splendid symphony by Heikki Suolahti - he passed away in 1936 having just turned sixteen.  I gather this was written when he was fourteen or fifteen.

Very restless sleep last night, with strange dreams.  The only one I remember now has to do with finishing a project and clearing out.  My friend Jim Martin, conductor of several shows between 1973 and 1979, was in it.  He was the conductor of a score I had written, and the performance was over.  I remember bits of the dream: a scotch tape dispenser that was stuck and thrown against a wall to unstick, looking over the score with the conductor, and packing cartons.  I think by the end opf the dream much of my mother's family was in it.

I plan to finish watching Sanditon today.  I may move on to my friend Sam Irvin's new blu-ray of Frankenstein: the True Story.  Sam almost hired me in 1980 or 1981 to score a thriller he had directed but turned me down when I told him I had no sound studio experience.  That led me to work for Ben Bagley, who was at the time the only record producer I knew at the time, as a music copyist and later orchestrator, so I could get inside a recording studio.

It was fascinating to see the clear guidance we've been getting lately that it's very specifically almost always when our hand has the virus i and we then touch our face that gives us the virus, which seems to say don't worry about what's on your hand unless you then touch your face.

I keep thinking "?Don't touch the face" from "Please hello" but I guess that's not that familiar a reference. to non-theater lovers.

Tomorrow (Monday), if all goes as planned, I should get the proofs of 2 of the 4 books that I am re-publishing via Amazon.  The other 2 proofs are due on Wednesday.

(My previous publisher is ceasing business.)

I hate proof-reading, but it has to be done.

And, it keeps me busy during this difficult time.

I also have another one-person play that I will start writing soon.

If you pick the right subject, these plays do sell well (particularly with drama students), and you even get an occasional production.

Thank you, BK, for the words on LILITH. That would have to be what I was faintly remembering:  that it didn’t add up to too much. Too bad, considering all it had going for it. But I’ll certainly enjoy seeing it again, especially for the exquisite Jean Seberg.

Just finished watching the last of the Marseille trilogy. Knowing that the last of the films was released in 1936 and that Fanny's son goes off to the join the army then made things even more emotional. In four short years, the Nazis would march into Paris. Who knows what would have happened to him in the meantime.

No because there's more sex in Austen than she's given credit for.  In Mansfield Park one of the evil sisters (Maria?) has an adulterous affair.  It was the whole coach rescue of Miss Lambe and then the following ball.  Charlotte goes to London by herself (?), ends up roaming the slums of London (?) and nearly raped; then after Miss Lambe's rescue. she goes to a London ball.  Where the hell did she get the finery?

I didn't buy any of it.

So here's mine.  Asking the musical question: Doesn't 6 feet apart beat 6 feet under?

The production company was stupid not to turn it into a running soap.  The cast is good and the last episodes were good, although some of the writing is too 20th century PC for Jane Austen.  I cannot believe they let Charlotte and Miss Lambe run around outdoors with no bonnets. but I did like the Lord Babington-Miss Denham plot.

Then I went to the grocery. They were still out of handy-wipes (limit 4 per person) and toilet paper. They were also out of flour. But they had pretty much of everything else, or so it seemed. The meat cases were filled. The dairy, eggs (limit) and related products were there. Cereal, candy, frozen foods, canned goods (except soup, also on a limit) and most everything else seemed to be there.

So many writers and performers are blatantly exploiting this national tragedy to call attention to their take in the matter.

So here's mine.  Asking the musical question: Doesn't 6 feet apart beat 6 feet under?

"With My Friend Killing Time".
https://youtu.be/zpXdp6iS40w
(everyone in the video guaranteed observing the six-feet-apart rule)

I enjoyed this. Is there another parody in the works, "With My Friend Serving Time"?

Perhaps I'm one of the few who isn't killing time. I actually have more to do than usual. Grocery shopping takes more time since we now must go to several stores where one used to do. I also want to keep things cleaner and no longer have Brian's help. Plus I feel the need to stay on top of the news. I reach out to friends more because I want to make sure they're OK. And so on.

subsequent reports that said the deli was permanently closing were premature, according to statement on Sunday from a spokesman for the restaurant. “The media has incorrectly reported that Nate ‘n Al’s is gone forever,” he said.

“It is in the intention of the current ownership to get through this crisis like every other restaurant and make the right decisions at the right time,” he continued. “Our goal is to keep the Nate ‘n Al’s tradition alive.”

I could go for a vixmom breakfast this morning.

Might have to rustle something up in a little while.

Today’s breakfast was eggs Benedict with thinly sliced ham fried up in a skillet in lieu of Canadian bacon.  Accompanied of course by a nice hot pot of tea.

Today's brunch for me was my first attempt at making waffles in a couple of years. ::) Here's the first attempt...and it's NOT scrambled eggs. It was supposed to be an actual waffle:

I should've left the first one in the waffle iron much longer, and sprayed it with more cooking spray so it didn't stick...that was the real problem.

What did she get that is so loud?

I didn't see the brand.  Also, the first time she started it, it was set on a heavy duty setting, so maybe the extra power made it louder than it is during normal cycles.

I have to say the new dishwasher is amazingly quiet.  Thank you to Skip and Jane for recommending a Boesch, I never even heard of the brand before

My parents' dishwasher is also amazingly quiet.

So many writers and performers are blatantly exploiting this national tragedy to call attention to their take in the matter.

So here's mine.  Asking the musical question: Doesn't 6 feet apart beat 6 feet under?

"With My Friend Killing Time".

(everyone in the video guaranteed observing the six-feet-apart rule)

That's really cool, Fred!

RIP - Krzysztof Penderecki, 86

I have a DVD of his opera The Devils of Loudon, based on the same case history by Aldous Huxley as the Ken Russell film.

When I was in the concert choir at Western Washington University, we sang a couple of his choral works, and I have this vague memory of him possibly visiting and seeing us perform, but I'm not sure about that.  It's been too long.

I do want to get some milk.  I guess I need to get out today...well, maybe.

We are having another phone meeting this week and I will mention again that I think it's best that we cancel our season this year.....too many variables......

I am not ready to commit to starting rehearsals in May....

That's too bad, Jrand.  Sadly, it won't be the only theater group to cancel.

So, one hero in this movie is named Percival. His lady friend is Sally B. Shelley.

Hinton Battle did the choreography for Idlewild. It's excellent. The direction of the musical numbers is good. But the script goes on a little too long and there's little urgency to the scenes until the end.

I really enjoyed In My Mind's Eye. The woman who played the mother looks like a friend of mine. She was able to navigate all of those emotions quite quickly and effectively.

She was great to work with, and getting the end of act one right was tricky because it's not earned, writing-wise, which I felt the first time I read the play.  But through trial and error we found it.  Kind of bi-polar, which was the key to her.

Royally?

I’d describe that one as:  Biblical.

No offense, DR George.  :)

What did she get that is so loud?

I didn't see the brand.  Also, the first time she started it, it was set on a heavy duty setting, so maybe the extra power made it louder than it is during normal cycles.

I hope so but I don't know why.

I am glad you like it.  Mine has a red light that shines on the floor so I know it is on.

I just finished watching it.  I enjoyed it.  Both Patty and Trish looked like they were sight impaired.  It had some touching moments, some fun moments, some intense moments, and it was all really well done.  Good script, good actors, simple but effective set and lighting.  Congrats to Doug and BK and everyone involved!

THAT’S a waffle?

Well...it started out as an attempt at something that was supposed to end up being a waffle.
