"American Idol" SORTA SPOILER #11

Last performer of the evening: Female. Good song choice, but sort of "questionable" for me - I was afraid the judges were going to brand her with the dreaded "Broadway" or "Cabaret" label. However, she took what could have been a potentially boring song choice and made it work for her. Although, frankly, I would have liked a bit more fireworks.

Robert, our "photographer" and husband to ensemble member Ksenia was saying something very similar after he came to shoot the show. But I really do appreciate it - you and Greg know how to compliment a guy!

My NY lodging dilemma is solved, and we will be staying at Peter's. His family seemed genuinely disappointed that we were planning to get a hotel room (we're sort of extended family by now) so we'll be on West End Ave. @99th.

Well, despite the promise of someone at the local DHL "staying in touch" with me, it didn't happen. Despite the promise that the package would be delivered to my house, it didn't happen. I finally called amazon, who couldn't have been nicer or more understanding. They've filed a complaint against DHL and the way this was handled, refunded me the entire purchase, and are sending me another DVD overnight, NOT via DHL.

My guess is that the stupid idiots at DHL will deliver tomorrow, but to my home, when I'm not here. They'll leave a slip, and then another day will go by. Or, maybe Mr. Mongoloid Delivery Person will sheepishly deliver it to the mail place. I will be contacting the DHL corporate office to lodge my formal complaint about the local branch and the driver.

Here's a short and, hopefully, understandable answer:

Basically, Actor's Equity requires that the producer's of Broadway shows and touring productions have a set of auditions every six months, a "required six-month open call". These are held regardless or not there are any openings in the cast. They insure that the producers see more than just the people they "want to see" at "invited calls".

Since the upcoming revival of Grease started casting back in September, they were required to have a six-month call now.

Conversely, even when a show has announced a closing date, they are still required to have a "six-month call" - even if the show is closing two weeks later. -Although, sometimes, those can be waived.

And sometimes a show will announce a closing date just days after a required call.
